Reviews for Chambre d'Hôtes L'Ambroise

Review 1:Breakfast was a little sparse but I suppose that's French continental breakfast

Review 2:Really unusual property and beautifully furnished in period style. Clean comfy beds and the biggest roll top bath I have ever seen.

Review 3:Extremely basic breakfast. Limited booking-in access time. It took several attempts at getting around the very tight right angle from in front of the house onto the driveway, mainly due to the electronic gate protruding onto the parking place.

Review 4:Free secure parking. Friendly patron and a wonderful antique house.

Review 5:Welcome and guide to free parking place; elegant, external aspect of house; space and cleanliness in room; nice and old-age, traditional furniture; simple, French, appetizing, included in price, breakfast; very quiet surroundings and 10 minutes walk to downtown.

Review 6:Nothing to dislike

Review 7:10 mins walk from the old town. Garden room very private and quiet, good wifi. Mme Bodet and her daughter were charming and very welcoming. A delightful stay.

Review 8:Very noisy rooms because of creaking floors. Expected more of a home style breakfast but everything was pre purchased. Especially as it was one of the more expensive B&Bs. Checking out too early and 10am.

Review 9:had to climb 3 flights of stairs, limited tv programmes, minibar was empty, and toilet was in the corner of the room.breakfast was limited no cheese, cooked meats or eggs as in other places we stayed at

Review 10:madame was very friendly and welcoming

Review 11:Nothing

Review 12:A very central b&b in an old house. The hostess is VERY friendly and her restaurant recommendations were great. Breakfast is also very good.

Review 13:In our big and fantastic room we had the WC......just inside ,some separation but without any door. Uneasy stairs, no elevator.

Review 14:5 min. by foot from the city centre. Amazing old house, very good preserved. Fine furniture. Strong WI FI,nice breakfast. Very sympathetic proprietors , mother and daughter.

Review 15:The driveway entrance is not suitable for guests with low slung cars.. very low bed's that slide around the shiny wooden floor.

Review 16:Very warm welcome. Good location .. nice breakfast .. large room and bathroom to expoerience seeing with all facilites. 1870.s house so some down side....

Review 17:Wonderful characterful house in a quiet street near the centre of Troyes. Fabulous breakfast with the best homemade jams we've ever eaten. Shady garden for picnics or a glass of wine in the evening.

Review 18:The shower and toilet were crammed inside the bedroom which was to small to cram that in there. The breakfast was a real bummer, luckily there was decent coffee...

Review 19:the B&B is very close to the old-town, so it's easy to get around. Troyes is also a good base to visit the champagne houses nearby.

Review 20:Interesting old 19th century house with spacious rooms and excellently situated within an easy walk to the centre of Troyes. Friendly and helpful hosts who also provided a very tasty breakfast. The enclosed on site parking was also much appreciated.

Review 21:The Booking.com descriptions are misleading. The room provided, on the second floor gained by two winding stair flights (32 steps) had an open fronted hanging space with two high shelves, a shower cubicle, wash basin recess and w.c. all opening into the room with no doors, thus no privacy whatsoever. Not acceptable in this century. A bedside table light socket did not function. Credit card payment was not acceptable, cash only (not as advertised). Breakfast was acceptable but not outstanding.

Review 22:Proximity to centre and Restaurants.

Review 23:What a little gem! A lovely little hotel within easy walking distance of Troyes town centre with its fascinating historic buildings. The room was beautifully furnished and comfortable, with a superb bathroom. The continental breakfast was generous and varied. Guests should be aware that there are no facilities for card payment, so sufficient cash is a must. Would definitely stay again

Review 24:Had to walk past sex workers negotiating with potential clients at edge of local park when returning from town centre at around 11.00pm Did not know in advance that property did not accept cards

Review 25:Friendly welcome despite arriving late. Lovely rooms

Review 26:We thought the breakfast rather meagre. Very little fruit and aselection of small breads and croissants. The booking confirmationsstated that we could pay on card but this wasn't the case, and cashwas only accepted when it was the exact amount - to the cent.

Review 27:Lovely typically French house and furnishings. Secure parking behindlocked gates. Interesting conversations between their little English andour son's little French. Very good location for Troyes, which is alovely town where hours could be spent browsing the old streets, and avast choice of restaurants.

Review 28:The pressure of the water was bad at one point when another guest was using the water then there was no water available in our room.

Review 29:The location was great. A short walk down the road and you were in the city centre.

Review 30:One of the best welcomes we had in our travels. The house and surroundings were great.I imaging the property is 19th Century, and it is is full of interesting artefacts

Review 31:Nothing, it was lovely!!

Review 32:Lovely quaint house in the style of Troyes!! Very pleasant land lady but make sure you speak French!! And have cash or cheque to pay if on a weekend!!

Review 33:Nothing. Everything was perfect.

Review 34:The owner was very friendly and welcoming, despite our poor French. She also recommended places to eat in the old town; and supplied a delicious breakfast. The Garden Room (No.4) was perfect for the dog, who could go straight out into the small garden

Review 35:High charge to pay by card. Also breakfast was disappointing with the smallest croissants I have ever seen. Shame to spoil it

Review 36:Location and rooms excellent. Staff very pleasant.

Review 37:The house stands on left hand side of a small one-way traffic system, and the sign was not easy to see until we had overshot. However, continuing along the road brings one to the bottom end of r. Ambroise Cottet, so it's easy to turn back.

Review 38:The friendly welcome and helpful directions for dinner in town. Excellent location for visiting beautiful Troyes. Were offered use of restful garden - though we didn't have time. Even a souvenir on leaving!

Review 39:Wow, lovely garden room, with air conditioning (needed it at 38degrees!!) great ensuite area.great breakfast in period room. Very close to Old town.Very helpful staff although dont really speak english Please note that this hotel does not accept card payments despite what it says on the booking website.

Review 40:On the other hand, Jacqueline was pretty inflexible when we suggested that our arrival could potentially be delayed due to "operation stack" near the Eurotunnel. If we'd arrived after 9pm we would not have been able to check in. Also, the next day, she overruled one of her staff in letting us leave our car for additional couple of hours (my wife felt unwell and needed to have a walk around) securely parked after check out. The check out time of 10am was too early. If we had known about these restrictions we probably would have booked somewhere else.

Review 41:Location, size of room and bathroom. As soon as we arrive Jacqueline gave us a map and some restaurant suggestions which was really helpful. Also, she and here staff were very polite.

Review 42:The owner was unfriendly. She would take cash only, no cards! She didnot bother to give us breakfast at 7:30! And did not take anything offthe bill. It was very hot and there was only a small fan.

Review 43:Ok if you like olds worldy pseudo antiques and nick nacks!

Review 44:The room could have had air conditioning as we stayed there while there was a heat wave.

Review 45:The owner of the property was lovely and really welcomed us into her home. If you are looking an authentic experience in a typical Northern town this is the place to stay.

Review 46:It was very hot when we arrived 36 and the room was also hot , no fan provided, tried to sleep with damp towel on me. Breakfast was poor, just poor quality pastries and some jams which we tried, breakfast in town was great! We would not stay here again.

Review 47:Good location easy walk into town. Nice old house to stay in when not hot. Tea and coffee in room.

Review 48:No air con or fans so had to have windows open and on a very noisy road in the morning with the traffic and building work going on next door Breakfast was very basic. Yet another place where their credit card machine doesn't seem to work!

Review 49:Location is good and parking on site is always a bonus. The owner was very helpful with directions and recommendations

Review 50:Five minute walk from the historic centre of Troyes and near a host of good restaurants. Off street parking. Friendly proprietor of a beautiful French house.

Review 51:The hotel is a beautiful old French house in a great location: quiet but very near town. The breakfast was excellent. Our room was plenty big enough and the bathroom was good too.

Review 52:There is parking for 3 cars within the property, but not side by side, one behind the other, and we(I was travelling with my sister) were told that the gates (electric) could not be opened before 8am. We wanted to leave at 6am for Calais, so parked in the street, but it was fine - it seems a very quiet area.

Review 53:The comfortable and authentically period architecture of the building and superb bedroom, as well as that of it's enormous bathroom. The proprietor's mother was charming and the experience was all very French. It's an easy stroll to the centre of the magnificent interior of Troyes.

Review 54:We were welcomed warmly on arrival. Actually gaining access and parking the car was daunting but we did it with Madame's guidance. The facilities in this up-market B& B were out of this world. The guidance for places to vist and to eat was first class.

Review 55:It was all good

Review 56:Only a few minutes walk from the town centre and a good selection of restaurants. Friendly staff, secure parking, clean rooms, fast WiFi and a good breakfast.

Review 57:The secure parking is best avoided. Park on the street. The metal doors are dangerous and manoeuvering is tight. Furthermore, one has to wait for the first car to leave before anyone else can get out.

Review 58:A beautiful old house in an excellent location. Breakfast was fresh and light, and we had the opportunity to meet the other guests.

Review 59:Nothing.

Review 60:Friendliness of staff. We all ate breakfast together. Very sociable. Room was very clean and well appointed. We has a small house separate from the main house in the garden.

Review 61:The room is gorgeous and the bathroom a knock out. The breakfast as well was such a treat to see and then to eat. It was all such a pleasant experience.

Review 62:The owner was a delight, conversing in French to describe the best places to dine and where to walk. We speak French poorly but were able to catch sufficient words to understand. The breakfast was beautifully presented and very tasty - just enough to head out for the day. The hotel was more like a home with personal pieces throughout and wifi was definitely better than the usual hotel standards.

Review 63:The house is Beautiful, old and typically French. Spacious room with a queen sized bed and lovely fresh cotton sheets. Lovely continental breakfast to start the day.

Review 64:The check-in staff member gave the very subtle feeling that it is the property that gives a favour to us by accommodating us, rather than us giving a favour to the property by selecting is.

Review 65:I liked the period decor of the property and its garden setting.

Review 66:The breakfast and homemade jams were delicious. Who would have thought tomato, cinnamon and maple syrup. Delicious. Grand old house with a homely setup. Would certainly stay there again

Review 67:We were told we could pay by card but on check out staff didnt know how to do it and we had to pay cash. They were not willing to contact the owner or process payment online or over phone. This was a great inconvenience as we had planned our cash for the trip out

Review 68:Shared breakfast table with other guests constantly using their mobile phones

Review 69:The room was charming and reflected the jolliness of the owner. Perfect location if you want to walk to the town centre. Free parking and wifi with a great connection.

Review 70:Sligfht problem with the hot water but soon solved.

Review 71:The house itself is beautiful full of antiques. The owner is really lovely although we spoke very little French and the owner little English we managed to communicate.

Review 72:Not exactly something I didn't like, more of a niggle. We stayed in one of the top-storey rooms and the water pressure in the shower was quite low. Our friends stayed in a twin room and found that the bathroom, while having a glorious bath, also had nearly floor-to-ceiling windows of plain glass and no window coverings at all! We don't think the window was overlooked, but they did find it a bit unnerving! Not disasters by any stretch and certainly wouldn't stop me staying here again.

Review 73:Very pleasant and helpful owners, very accommodating of our needs and requests. Exceedingly patient and tolerant of our rusty French and happy to chat. A charming and beautiful building which is centrally located, making walking into the centre of Troyes easy. Rooms a good size. Our car was parked safely and securely in front of the hotel without problem during our stay.

Review 74:Creaking oak floor needs care to ensure others are not disturbed (children could be unpopular with other guests) Breakfast was good, French and not international, stylish rather than substantial. Pretty difficult to find without satnav.

Review 75:Chambre 1 has a bathroom of great style together with a comfortable bedroom and beds. Unusual for France, tea and coffee facilities and more if wished. Quiet location, 5 minutes walk to a .wonderful medieval city centre....

Review 76:Secure parking within the premises is possible but requires co-operation of other guests to shuffle vehicles around to get out the rather narrow gates in the morning. If you need to leave early be sure to be last in! Two flights of stairs if you have the top floor.

Review 77:The location is excellent for exploring the unique old city of Troyes being only a few hundred meters walk away. It is quiet, in a typical old French house with lots of character including creaky floor boards and plumbing noises but not a problem. Second stay there and would go again.

Review 78:There was little to dislike.....the only comment was that the toilet was in the bedroom, shielded by a divider.

Review 79:Charming guest owner, very helpful. Wonderful breakfast and superb location.

Review 80:Wonderful stay. The room( number 1) was amazing. Clean and spacious. Never seen a bathroom like that. Short walking distance from Troyes. The owner told us about few restaurants. Book ahead if it is weekend. Breakfast plentiful.

Review 81:Probably not best suited to families.

Review 82:Lovely welcome and a gorgeous breakfast with homemade jam. Off-street parking very helpful and the walk to centre of town very easy. Very happy to suggest restaurants and clearly well known there! Altogether highly recommended

Review 83:No credit card opportunity

Review 84:Friendly,caring and professional approach in a former grand private residence retained in its all its elegance. A unique opportunity for a very pleasant and relaxing stay and excellent experience.

Review 85:Not difficult to find but no local on-street parking available when checking in.

Review 86:Wonderfully close to the historic town centre (5 mins walk), very friendly welcome and beautifully decorated rooms, with interesting en-suite facilities. Very secure off-road parking.

Review 87:Squeaky floorboards and early morning waste collections, though not much can be done about either of these things by Madame.

Review 88:Warm welcome and hospitality from Madame Boidet, especially the guidance on finding the best restaurants in the Old town (Mignardises in Ruelle du Chat highly recommended). The style may not suit some but the comfort of the facilities cannot be faulted.

Review 89:No report

Review 90:A mini chateaux in the center of Troyes, built 1860 and family owned. Jaqcueline Boidet and family are great hosts. Locked in car parking in drive, this 4 bed B&B is an excellent choice. Would stay there every time in Troyes, try and get Room 1.

Review 91:Really noisy location making sleep very difficult

Review 92:The most amazing bathroom with roll top bath Large bright airy room Spotlessly clean Beautiful property with lovely owners who clearly love their stunning house Nice breakfast beautifully presented

Review 93:Very interesting shower, kept me amused. Fact it was a bit like staying in greenhouse. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast good (except for cup of tea, but hey this is France). Very close to centre of interesting town. Owners very accommodating about both our arrival and also leaving car in their forecourt after we signed out. Ornaments and padded cell toilet are interesting extra's. Definitely would stop here again.

Review 94:Garden room overlooked - needed to use blinds and curtains to ensure privacy - not good in the day. Some inflexibility - breakfast, even just coffee, no sooner than 8am. which was irritating as we wanted to leave earlier.

Review 95:Good location in centre of Troyes. Garden room has excellent facilities. Good recommendations for restaurants.

Review 96:Got an email before arrival saying to use VISA I would have to pay 5 Euro more. I agreed. When we checked out we were asked for cash as the facility has no credit card scanner so would need to enter it via internet which they did eventually. Also owner speaks no English but is a delightful woman who makes every attempt to communicate.

Review 97:The owner, facility, price and location can't be beat.

Review 98:Best to pay in Cash as their internet payment system really does not work properly.

Review 99:The building is beautiful architecturally and the decor antique but quirky at the same time. Our spacious room was an outbuilding in the garden and hence was absolutely ideal with our dog! Madame and her daughter were the perfect hosts. The breakfast was the best I have had for a long time, especially in a Chambres d'Hotes. We will definitely go back there again.

Review 100:A fabulous old property in the charming town of Troyes. Our room was very spacious & everything was to a high standard. Typical continental breakfast served in the dining room. Private free off-road parking on site. Easy stroll into the heart of Troyes with plenty of choice of restaurants.

Review 101:Lovely location, booked the garden room so quiet brilliant facilities having a kettle in the room was great. Gated parking. Decent breakfast and a huge cafetiere of coffee.

Review 102:We were in the garden suite and the shower while looked great did not work properly. Overhead shower trickled and the jets were weak. Do not take credit cards so remember to take cash

Review 103:Beautiful quaint French B&B a short walk from the centre of beautiful Troyes. Lovely welcome and great sleep in very comfortable beds. Nice continental breakfast in morning with other guests

Review 104:A lovely little hotel in a very nice town. The owner was very charming. Breakfast was good with a good selection of bread and pastries and very tasty home made jam. I would certainly go back.

Review 105:On check out we were told they didn't take cards and were tasked with a brisk 30min round trip to a local cash machine

Review 106:Rooms were large and quirky in finish but very comfortable. The locale provides for a quiet night with the added benefit of waking up to the smell of freshly cooked croissants!

Review 107:There can be some noise when neighbor uses bathroom.

Review 108:The room is very comfortable. When we checked in, there was an old lady welcome us. She didn't know much of English, but she tried hard to explain everything. Very wonderful breakfast, and lovely decoration.

Review 109:Our room no 2 was facing the street and surprisingly was quite noisy in the early morning.

Review 110:The owner, very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful large and very comfortable room with spacious modern bathroom. Excellent French breakfast with good choice. Very good location (with secure free parking) and short walk to lots of restaurants and bars, and places of interest, A short drive away is Foret and Lac d'Orient. Well worth a detour.

Review 111:Unable to contact host by phone when running late and about to miss last check in time. Message left (in French) but not responded too. However, a warm welcome was extended when we eventually did arrive.

Review 112:Beautiful property. Lovely room. Great breakfast. Charming host. Ten minutes walk to town centre.

Review 113:I unfortunately can't speak French and hostesses English is the same.

Review 114:Friendly helpful attitude gave us a map and showed us where restaurants were. Secure parking.

Review 115:Parking on drive can in tandem format can result in having to move cars around to let people out.

Review 116:No areas off limits and everything there we needed. Quirky decor and lovely breakfast with home made produce. Close to centre so can leave the car and walk.

Review 117:Second night (A Saturday) was incredibly hot and a fan did little to help, A/C would have been excellent. It was noisy in the streets from local youths.

Review 118:Close to old town. Characterful B&B and not a bland hotel. With a bit of encouragement the ladies enabled us to have an earlier breakfast at 7:45 rather than normal 8am start which meant we could eat and make the ferry at Calais - just!

Review 119:Great location used as stop over on the way to Italy by motorcycle easy walk into the lovely old twon. The garden room we used was wonderful pleasant helpful staff.

Review 120:Friendly owners superb rooms

Review 121:Loads of character. The owner was brilliant. Location very central to a lovely town.

Review 122:Breakfast very poor , for the price we paid. Also charged extra to pay by card.

Review 123:Very convenient to centre , ample parking

Review 124:We were greeted very warmly by the owner. It was in a a quiet road even though it was close to the town centre.

Review 125:Great breakfast
