Reviews for County Hotel

Review 1:Did not like. !I booked through u and was very surprised and disappointed to find the room tarif was 78£ so 128 room only was very expensive and that £40 was put on my credit card when I booked the balance on arrival . I have recently stayed at a spa with breakfast for £123 in sussex so I feel it was very exspensif

Review 2:Should have included breakfast in the room price

Review 3:Around 5 min walk from the Chelmsford train/bus station, super convenient. Many eateries around too, kebab shops, tesco, marks and spencers, so food is not a problem. The room was very clean and comfortable. Paid 55 pounds for 1 person for 1 night, one of the cheapest hotels in Chelmsford.

Review 4:Decor a bit tired, walls must be very thin as you can hear everything in the corridor/outside. Receptionist that checked us in was quite unhelpful/borderline rude, however next day the staff were fine so probably just a one-off member...

Review 5:Good location & clean room

Review 6:There was no temperature gage so the room was cold when we get in we also has no hot water from the sink. Condensation from the windows made a puddle on both windowsills which could have been EXTREMELY dangerous! The cleanliness of the room was okay although there was clumps of dust here and there where things hadn't been pulled out properly when cleaning.

Review 7:Bed was nice and big and very comfortable. Very nicely decorated.

Review 8:Absence of fridge in room. Buffet breakfast cold Needed another toaster as people were queuing for toast, spoiling the breakfast experience

Review 9:Excellent welcoming staff, Comfortable bed.

Review 10:Noise terrible from weekend night parties till 12 midnight. Bathroom plumbing terrible with erratic hot water that could not be fixed during the weekend.

Review 11:Location is great. Nice staff.

Review 12:Bar totally shut off on the Saturday due to a function. Would have appreciated a small area where we could sit and have a drink. Car park needs repair, husband nearly fell.

Review 13:Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel. Very comfortable room.

Review 14:The room was amazing and spacious and all the staff helped me with my girlfriends surprise 21st birthday. They are such lovely nice people that work there. I cannot recommend them enough!

Review 15:Central heating not working.

Review 16:Big bathroom and bed! Fruit, snacks and beverages. Very helpful and friendly staff. Brought portable heater as ch wasn't working. Big car park.

Review 17:My boyfriend bashed his head a few times on the edge of the tv as it was overhanging the bathroom door a bit. Not a problem for me as I'm not as tall. My son couldn't easily access the kettle, tea and coffee etc in his room as it was behind the tv. The toilet in my mums room hadn't been flushed before her arrival so she was greeted by someone else's urine upon first use.

Review 18:The staff were lovely, the room was quaint and the free bathroom products provided were lovely, a lot nicer than other hotels I've stayed in.

Review 19:The room could have added water bottles with tea bags. We found staff rude and difficult to talk to. The place is very efficiently run but with the loss of smiley warm staff particularly on reception. Warm breakfast items were charged with only a continental included in the price this is not made clear on booking.

Review 20:Room was clean with warm towels and ample space for 2. We had a small balcony which overlooked free car parking which was good.

Review 21:There's tight security on the hotel so you have to ask the porter to let you in after midnight, by giving your name and room number. The hotel is a bit of a maze, not easy to find out room at all.

Review 22:The toiletries smelt lovely, shower was amazing and very powerful!

Review 23:The bathroom made a unbelievably loud screeching noise at 8am (which woke me) on and off for ten minutes. Told the staff who didn't seem too bothered or offer any compensation. Massively overpriced for an average hotel.

Review 24:The hotel was clean and breakfast was nice.

Review 25:A little noisy early morning with departing guests and some traffic noise, although in part because windows were open. Room very hot even with the windows open.

Review 26:Good location, free parking and excellent service

Review 27:The room was very hot. The view was abysmal looking at a wall and a couple of windows of other rooms. The room was ok but a bit dated.

Review 28:Very clean and comfortable bed. Also located close to where we wanted to be. Quiet room away from noise of traffic.

Review 29:Breakfast is over priced especially for children as it is the same price as an adult ! My bedroom was very small and dark which made trying to get ready for a night out very difficult. Not a very child friendly place at all.

Review 30:Breakfast. £13:95 is a bit steep, when you say buffet I take it that means you can help yourself. Not the case when someone is serving you.

Review 31:Reception/front of house team 100% for customer service and really helpful, nothing to much trouble.

Review 32:We opted to have breakfast together one morning and while the buffet food was decent the price was ridiculous.

Review 33:My father stayed here on a visit with me and he said the room was really comfortable and clean - the bathroom was huge with a lovely tub and shower. The staff were really friendly and the location was great (right by the train station).

Review 34:Breakfast was appalling. Cold plates, toaster did not work properly, one of my eggs was not cooked properly and the rest of offering was just luke warm Left most of it but was not asked why.

Review 35:We were going to London for a show and ideal location to hop on a train without the expense of a London hotel.

Review 36:It was so HOT!!! Granted we don't often have hot days, but the room was in the roof and their was no aircon, and the windows didn't open very far so I couldn't get much air in. The bed could have done with a topper as was very hard but I suppose that it down to personal preference! It was a bit of a maze upstairs to get to the room, so was fine for me but anyone with mobility problems should check. It was a shame breakfast wasn't included, and £12.50 seemed a bit steep. Didn't have it so can't comment whether it would have been worth it!

Review 37:I was only here for a one night stay so didn't spend much time in the hotel. The check in was friendly and efficient, and my single room while compact was clean and had a double bed. The powerful shower was good, and a bonus to have conditioner as well as shampoo! Overall a pleasant enough hotel for a quick stopover.

Review 38:Being given a shower/bath where I being over six feet tall could not fit under or in in any degree of comfort. The long walk to get to the bedroom. Did not like the cleaning staff walking into the bedroom without knocking.

Review 39:Nice to have a bar to relax In. And the hotel was clean and bed comfortable.

Review 40:Reception staff are pretty miserable and surly. The hotel needs a major refurb, especially in the public areas. Carpet is threadbare on the stairs, accident waiting to happen.

Review 41:Bed is comfy, bathroom was nice, but I had a premium room. They do a nice blush wine. Dinner was nice in the bar.

Review 42:Breakfast was chaos (they seemed to be understaffed) and the food quality was poor. The eggs florentine we initally ordered was so bad we had to send it back.

Review 43:Clean and fairly comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 44:Wi Fi can be problematic - 1 toast machine for the restuarant in the morning can mean waiting for a basic item, it would be better to have toast served together with the breakfast.

Review 45:comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. Breakfast quality has noticably improved since my last stay, it was good before, but even better now.

Review 46:Off hand abrupt staff. Hot glasses given when I ordered a bottle of white wine. Rude reception staff when I asked for a receipt when I booked. Stayed for work reason but won't stay again.

Review 47:Mathew was great.

Review 48:Super thin walls! We could hear the neighbours snoring. Plus on of the bedsheets had stains on it which were not caused by us.

Review 49:Friendly staff. Close to the station.

Review 50:Room was ok - bed comfy and bathroom spotless but no "feeling" in it - felt like a student bedroom. Good for a reasonably priced one night stop over only. Note - Two floors up and no lift to second floor.

Review 51:Breakfast very nice, downstairs breakfast room pleasant Comfy Bed and Bathroom spotless

Review 52:Being central means traffic noise.

Review 53:Receptionist on checking in, friendly. When I asked if my room was a good one she looked at the number and said 'i like that room however if you're not happy pop back A nice recommendation and the room was warm and homely. Great shower, liked the balcony even if it over looked the car park. Liked the green initiatives and savings the hotel has made. All staff friendly

Review 54:We did not like the fact that the waiting staff at breakfast seemed to lack organisation and considering there were plenty of them customer service! there was one toaster that worked and we gave up on that as it was so slow. Not the best. We are speaking from experience as we are regular travellers

Review 55:The room was spacious and also the bathroom

Review 56:Stain damaged armchairs removed from rooms are being used to "decorate" the stair landings, there is damage to a fire door caused by careless use of laundry trolleys, the additional charge for breakfast was far to expensive at £12.50p when booking in or £13.50 if ordered in the morning, needless to as I declined. There were other issues which I passed on to staff at reception for attention by maintenance as soon as possible.

Review 57:I liked the location and the general comfort of the hotel and room, however there were some issues, details below.

Review 58:Cost for tired room (especially bathroom) to expensive. Breakfast not included. Room overlooked unless blinds down.

Review 59:Location and water pressure. Some good staff.

Review 60:The room was cramped and had a depressing view of the car park with no privacy as we were getting ready for a wedding a maintenance man appeared at our window

Review 61:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the dinner in the bar was good

Review 62:The AC won't come on, the wifi connection was very poor, sporadic and fluctuates. Facility is old, need a bit of refurbishing

Review 63:The food was great. The complementary parking is an added comfort

Review 64:- The usual 3 bags of decaffeinated coffee and 1 proper instant coffee. Not a big thing, but do 75% of those drinking coffee chose decaff? - When I pay for breakfast, I expect to be able to pick and chose from a hot buffet. One person taking orders from a fairly packed restaurant = long waits. Stop the nonsense. Are you running a B&B or a hotel? - If you can't afford people using normal glasses for orange juice, then either put prices up or remove the drinks all together.

Review 65:- Friendly staff as always (despite people seem to be starting/quitting all the time). - Free WiFi - The hotel bar is a quiet spot where you can enjoy a drink and get some work done. However, it's beginning to look just a bit worn (chairs, tables ++)

Review 66:The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and dinner in the restaurant was well presented and of very good quality. The triple cooked chips are the best ever. Staff were very attentive.

Review 67:Traffic noise? Over heated, dusty and shabby. There are gee centrally located hotels in chesford which is why they charge what they do and take us for granted

Review 68:I was on 2nd floor - lift only to first floor a then slightly confusing long route to my room (not so good for people like me with walking problem and stairs)

Review 69:good location for station decent size single room generous tea/coffee - always appreciated

Review 70:Reception not overly friendly! The outside noise from room was terrible - need some acoustic barrier & better quality doors. Was woken at 7am & 9am by people in the corridor - sounded like they were in the room!

Review 71:Great location only 2 minutes from party venue on Duke Street. Nice surroundings & good looking building. Ample parking. 11am check out

Review 72:I did notice that some staff serving at the bar did not appear to know too much about the wine, this slowed the service down.

Review 73:The hotel has great parking and from that moment the walk into reception feels like a great deal of attention has been place on getting the correct ambiance. This flows through the rest of the hotel and the service the staff want to deliver.

Review 74:I had to request breakfast as room service at the weekend as it did not start early enough to fit my working hours. The first morning it turned up 25 minutes late, the second morning half of it was missing.

Review 75:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was great, just 5 minutes from the bus station and the centre of Chelmsford. Comfy bed, great facilities.

Review 76:Reception staff not particularly friendly and had no small talk

Review 77:Cleanliness of hotel, nice room with good layout, great bar (little pricey, not the worst I have paid though!), checkout at 11am (always a winner!) Good location

Review 78:Rooms on the 3rd floor are not accessible via elevator. Wasn't too big of an inconvenience for us, but for older patrons with luggage this could be difficult. Gentleman manning the front desk on day of check out was less than accommodating when we asked for a half hour extension for check out to pack up - the hotel was not busy. Otherwise great staff.

Review 79:Location was good for visiting family in Chelmsford. Clean. Good experience with front desk staff on check in. Nice pub / bar onsite.

Review 80:Some rooms near main corridor fire doors can be a bit noisy (i.e room 9 I stayed in last).

Review 81:Nice, modern comfy rooms. Free parking. Lovely breakfast, and always a couple of changing real ales in the bar. Wifi is free and reasonably fast for a popular hotel. Indian Curry house opposite is first rate, and town centre is a 5 min stroll.

Review 82:Polyester pillows Overnight illuminated signage right outside our room window.

Review 83:We loved the room and especially the huge luxury bathroom facilities. We loved the modern interior of the hotel and its older features being maintained. We loved the breakfast We loved the massive free car parking

Review 84:Nothing

Review 85:Suprised at the size of the room, very spacious and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was really nice. A Short stroll into town. I'd definetly stay here again

Review 86:The bed was in a wooden floor and schooled around a lot. Pillows were very uncomfortable

Review 87:The staff were so helpful, warm and friendly. The bath was deep and relaxing. A jug of milk and lots of coffee and tea in room ~ fruit as well. Little touches like bathrobes were very welcoming

Review 88:Room Heating - either too hot (when on) or cold Noise from corridor until 4.00am Noise from rooms across corridor all night Reaction from check out staff in respect of noise was "we're always getting complaints about that" Parking No hot water in bathroom in the morning

Review 89:Location

Review 90:The shortage of lifts. The stairs were quite narrow and hard to negotiate with heavy luggage.

Review 91:This was my second visit and I would certainly recommend the Hotel for its location and comfort. I would certainly stay here again.

Review 92:please tell everyone using ;Satnav; you are 29 Rainsford Road, it is hidden away in some of your paperwork.

Review 93:level of service maintained throughout our stay. Good choice menu, value for money and well presented.

Review 94:The room was a little bit tired, but everything was clean, and everything in the room worked! The only thing missing was a trouser press.

Review 95:Good location. Within easy walking distance of both rail and bus stations.

Review 96:The hotel is near a main road and although it was mostly quiet, some emergency vehicles use the road.

Review 97:The staff were very well trained; polite, cheerful, caring - nothing was too much trouble. The food was really good - freshly cooked and well presented. The room was comfortable, clean and well decorated. There were extra little touches, e.g. the iron and ironing board in the wardrobe, which would be handy for some. Parking was easy and the hotel was within convenient walking distance of the railway station and city centre.

Review 98:Your male receptionist made no effort to be friendly or welcoming. He was clearly just going through the motions both on arrival and departure

Review 99:Location superb ,facilities excellent ,lounge bar great.Had a very enjoyable stay

Review 100:room quite small and pillows very thin and cheap shower had mildew stains in grouting towel rail right next to toilet so not very hygienic generally poor design to room and ensuite breakfast not included which it should be for this price

Review 101:location breakfast and bar areas good power to shower polite and helpful reception staff

Review 102:In our room there was a bit of a weird noise, I think it was the pipe work but it wasn't that loud.

Review 103:The breakfast was very lovely, all freshly cooked, and staff were very helpful.

Review 104:Noisy hotel with ill fitting room doors. Our room backed onto a light well and very noisy with drunks talking into the early hours of the morning. Reception are being referbished.

Review 105:Good location with plenty of on site parking. Room was fair if a bit small. Great shower.

Review 106:The restaurant prices meant we didn't dine at the hotel

Review 107:The stay was unplanned but very comfortable and under the circumstances, booked very last minute, very trouble-free

Review 108:Small room, reached by very torturous route. Room very hot, and opening window not an option due to traffic noise. A little expensive for room only, especially given size and location of room.

Review 109:Excellent wifi in clean room, very close to train station and offices

Review 110:Hotel very hot, we discovered some radiators were actually on, despite the weather still at temperatures of 21/22c!

Review 111:For the price of £80 we were surprised at the quality and comfort of our room. King sized bed, a bath and shower, updated lighting and TV. Very clean. Two nice touches, a bowl of fresh apples at the receptionist desk for guests to help themselves to. Plus, a note on tea tray that should we request fresh milk it would be delivered up to our room (and was). Staff were delightful. We were so impressed by the County Hotel that we decided to eat dinner there. This was a superb meal which greatly impressed us also.

Review 112:A long hike with luggage to our room. Hot romm so winter duvet not neccessary. Would have liked a top sheet.

Review 113:Great shower, lovely large towels. Comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making facilities and free WiFi really appreciated.

Review 114:No Smoked Salmon for breakfast on Monday 13. lights still flickering in the lounge/bar. lounge/bar waitresses grasp of English poor, probably due to different accents of clients. Bedside clock, time & date wrong.

Review 115:The room was comfortable and on a whole staff were pleasant

Review 116:No Wi-Fi despite complaints The hot water took weeks to arrive even with both sink and bath taps on, There was building work outside out window (on the first floor) of which we were not advised prior to booking. Poor value breakfast and even worse service - we had to ask three times for coffee, which then arrived with no milk

Review 117:nothing - will never stay there again

Review 118:1. The room was a superior but was not as large as the pictures online. 2. There was supposed to be robes in the room but was not available. 3. Whilst sat up in bed, the bed starts to move forward. We had to wedge the bed with a chair. 4. There was a stain on the wooden floor and on closer inspection the was food crumbs under the rug. 5. After the morning shower my wife went for a towel that had a large light brown stain on it.

Review 119:Fresh fruit in the room.

Review 120:Room to hot even with no radiators on. Tv not tuned in correctly. Being woke up by an early morning call we did not book. Cold full English breakfast. No fridge in the room

Review 121:Wifi, friendly people

Review 122:Good coffee supplied in room but no cafetiere? Price of breakfast not included. As a vegetarian it seemed rather pricey considering it didn't offer a veggy sausage or similar. Breakfast coffee plentiful but not good, but lovely staff brought me a decent expresso from elsewhere - Thank-you :-).

Review 123:Friendly, helpful & smiling staff. The young Spanish girl in the breakfast room was particularly charming and knew me by name for a one night stay, other staff good too. Comfortable, cushioned seating in breakfast room (important-hate hard plastic chairs!). Thoughtful extras in the room such as organic eco bath products, iron&board (handy if going to a wedding), good hairdryer, kettle, nice wooden box tea/coffee etc Generally good all round for overnight wedding stay.

Review 124:Unfortunatly a big function was on during the day extremely hard to find a parking space, a lot of work going on very noisey on arrival and door knocked at 9am by house keeping would of thought there would of been a system installed for when customers had checked out.

Review 125:Staff were very good especially the reception staff.room was clean, tea and coffee available in room with ironing board and iron, bathroom was clean.

Review 126:Poor TV, had to swap batteries for remote from dvd player, obvioysly not checked, glasses dirty as was the bathroom which was a shame as could of been real nice, housekeeping was poor at any price and this was a premium room too!

Review 127:Room was OK to be fair although a bit dated, massive bathroom, WiFi with infinity speeds

Review 128:Had difficulty parking at the hotel on the Saturday evening, as there was a function at the hotel and all the car parking spaces were taken by guests attending that.

Review 129:Despite it's central location, it was surprisingly quiet at night which was a bonus. The staff were friendly and polite and when we needed assistance with the safe, someone came and sorted it out quickly.

Review 130:evening meals a little on the expensive side.

Review 131:We have stayed at the County many times as our son lives in Chelmsford. Our stay is always very comfortable and the rooms are excellent. We will be staying again.

Review 132:Our first visit to the hotel since a family dinner some years ago. Loved the fresh decor and the friendliness of the staff. The food was delicious and the chef to be complimented. We will be staying again I am sure.

Review 133:Good sized safe, but it wasn't attached to anything! Couldn't turn off the Towel Rail, which made room too hot. Fire alarm set off by another guest in the night

Review 134:Excellent breakfast, comfortable bed, plenty of parking

Review 135:The fire alarm going off in the earlys hours through a false alarm from maybe someone smoking and then about half n hour after we was allowed back in our rooms I was awaken by the alarm another 2 times because it was being tested.

Review 136:Very nice hotel to stay at with excellent facilities and comfortable beds.

Review 137:Really charge a premium for rooms during the festival, but I guess they can get away with it

Review 138:Comfortable, modern rooms, friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast

Review 139:I booked the day before I was due to stay and on booking.com I was advised of a £40 cancellation fee. Although this seemed a bit steep I accepted the booking terms. The next day my business in Chelmsford finished a day earlier than planned and I didn't need to stay over. The Hotel though have charged a different (£65!) cancellation fee and neither they, my bank or booking.com seem to accept that this is £25 more than I was informed beforehand.

Review 140:Everything was excellent. No Complaints at all.

Review 141:My husband took ill during the night , the receptionist was most Helpful, ringing a taxi to take us to The hospital etc. the superior room was indeed superior! Most Definately will stay again.

Review 142:Nothing to complain about

Review 143:Staying overnight after a family wedding we found the hotel very good. Our very spacious room and bathroom were excellent not only the normal tea and coffee but mini fridge and fruit bowl were very nice extras. T

The Fine Print

Early arrivals: if your arrival is early in the day and you prefer immediate access to your room, we recommend reserving for the prior night to guarantee immediate access. If you choose not to reserve, we will be happy to store your bags for you.During the Christmas period the property hosts various events and parties. The hotel will therefore not be as quiet as at other times. Also, every Friday and Saturday night the restaurant will not be available, food will be available in the Lounge Bar area. Every effort is made to ensure your room if away from any such events, however due to the location of rooms sometimes this may not be possible.
