Reviews for Hotel Comtes De Champagne

Review 1:very central, easy to park there, lovely windy corridors, up and down lots of levels. Very welcoming and their English was good. Cake at breakfast was amazing

Review 2:Accommodation rather basic, but that suited us on this particular trip. Rooms vary in quality, and we weren't staying in one of their better rooms.

Review 3:Central location, plenty of space in room and parking in courtyard. Troyes worth a visit for its amazing medieval centre. Breakfast was good.

Review 4:Very basic reception/breakfast area, kitsch deco with stone cladding more appropriate to a suburban semi with garden gnome...

Review 5:Lovely historical building with a remarkable facade, excellent location reasonably priced

Review 6:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 7:Wonderful quirky medieval buildingn &comfortable well appointed room. Very friendly efficient staff. Superb, extensive continental breakfast. Secure parking. Perfect location at the heart of this historic town.

Review 8:The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel needs some minor repairs to be completed but our over night stay was enjoyable. The location of the hotel is perfect for visiting the Old Town.

Review 9:Nothing

Review 10:A quirky hotel that doesn't have a flat floor or straight wall in this wonderful old building. Located in the centre of the old town and close to bars and restaurants. The staff were very welcoming and extremely helpful. They have secure private parking which was great for motorbikes.

Review 11:The room was unpleasantly shabby as was bathroom and toilet. The breakfast was very basic given the cost. It all could have been wonderful, but it wasn't. Looks so good from outside, then it falls off a cliff!

Review 12:An attractive building on the outside. The receptionist was very welcoming. The location was superb.

Review 13:Stuffy, small room. Carpet in room stained and loose. Dangerous broken mirror on wardrobe door. Problem with water not draining away properly in shower. Plumbing not good. Shower room very tiny. Towels and sheets smelt unclean and fusty. Bed uncomfortable. Carpets on stairs worn and ripped. Breakfast OK, but not good value for money. Very disappointing stay and not at all good value for money.

Review 14:Location. Helpful staff. Interesting old building in heart of Troyes so useful for looking around the city and eating out.

Review 15:The hotel ignored the fact that my husband is disabled and had planned 2nd floor rooms (no lift) and had to move us to a rather rundown apartment. They also forgot our booking of a parking space. Breakfast was very expensive.

Review 16:Beautiful building in prime location.

Review 17:The floors creak above and outside, so beware if a light sleeper. The bathroom shower heads (both of them) could do with a good nail-brushing and the towels need renewing.

Review 18:Location is excellent, right in the centre. Secure parking is opposite, so stop in layby before hotel to get keyfob. Very pet friendly - dogs are allowed at breakfast, which is also good. The park is 1 minute away. Map at reception. Bed very comfy, TV film in English (with Sound button) For the price, this is a nice one.

Review 19:Even being a traditional looking Troyes place, the hotel is a bit old on the inside. The rooms are a bit dated.

Review 20:Very close from the city center and it has a convenient parking which for me was fundamental (I was driving to Bordeaux).

Review 21:The bathroom could have been a little cleaner but I think it was just old.

Review 22:Hotel ideally located in the middle of the historical center, close to the restaurants and the cathedral. "Charming" ambiance and spacious rooms. Staff very devoted.

Review 23:It's quintness. Wonderful medieval timber-framed buliding with each room individually decorated. Good value off street parking. The best buffet breakfast ever! Wonderful, helpful, happy staff.

Review 24:Top floor rooms very small and hot. Generally it's a little tired but it served for an overnight stop at a fair price for it's location.

Review 25:Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Location good as a very short walk to the centre of the historic area but far enough away to avoid noise when sleeping. Secure parking helpful in the centre of the city.

Review 26:Room number 3 has an amazing four poster bed and original medieval features! I feel very lucky to have stayed in such a lovely old quirky hotel in such a beautiful historic town

Review 27:Nothing to dislike!

Review 28:Everything about the service and hotel was just perfect, breakfast was well worth the money - will definitely return if in the area again.

Review 29:As a disabled traveller the adapted room was disappointing. With a door that would not shut properly, difficult parking, which I had to pay for. Drab room, lumpy bed but a good bathroom.

Review 30:Troyes is a beautiful town. Breakfast very good. Main building quaint. Did not see bedrooms there.

Review 31:Little quirky room, a bit dusty but really charming and right in the centre of the old city. Staff was very kind and helpful and the breakfast buffet was really good and abundant.

Review 32:I've been in bigger wardrobes than the very tiered and grubby bathroom. Hotel needs a refurb urgently. If you book parking, (you need to in central Troyes!) make sure you ring up before you arrive. The carpark is across the road with shut gates, and there is nowhere to park close to pop in and arrange openning.

Review 33:Good breakfast

Review 34:The hotel and particularly the bedroom were dusty. The bed and pillow were lumpy and it was impossible to sleep. The interior had recently been painted with no care for protecting the carpets. Staff numbers were minimal (one!). Not a hotel but a building of rooms.

Review 35:The location

Review 36:Had the accommodation been decorated, it would have rated higher, but dirty walls, wallpaper hanging off, and not painted for many years lets it down. That and no in-room facilities such as coffee making that was present in all other French hotels we used

Review 37:Location, Location, Location

Review 38:Stained carpet; electrics hanging out of the sockets; dated bathroom

Review 39:Great location; friendly staff; plentiful, varied breakfast; unusual breakfast room; four poster bed

Review 40:The hotel doesn't have air conditioning so avoid on hot days. That said, high ceilings and large windows so not really a problem in summer.

Review 41:Charming hotel with very spacious bedrooms, particularly the family room for four. Very comfy bed too.

Review 42:The staff were very helpful, the location is excellent and they had secure parking for our motorcycles. The Hotel is also a little quirky and shows its age (in a nice way)

Review 43:The room was clean when we arrived, but during our stay they didn't clean the bathroom well and instead took away towels that we had hung up to keep and needed. Be aware that it's a narrow oneway street and might be difficult to stop for unloading baggage, but there are more space and parking a bit further off. The hotel has a small courtyard parking, but it was full during our stay.

Review 44:This is the second time we stay at this hotel in old Troyes. The reception staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a very old beautiful building so every angle is off, which we like! (But be prepared that the facilities are a bit worn down, still within the limits of "charming" according to us.) The room was very spacious with an open fireplace (not in use though). The breakfast is good. Wifi works.

Review 45:Excessively small and rather stuffy room.

Review 46:The hotel is very well situated in the historic centre of Troyes and is itself an amalgam of converted 16th century houses. But the interior, aiming at shabby/chic, has more of the former than the latter. We were maybe unlucky with our room but swinging a hamster would have posed problems let alone a cat. Though a second room for a handicapped person was helpfully situated on the ground floor, it had no external window but only one that opened onto the breakfast room. Other rooms may have been better but our experience suggested only indifferent value for money.

Review 47:The hotel was grubby in the communal parts with threadbare carpets. The rooms were shabby and smelt. The grouting in the bathroom was discoloured and the loo filled to almost overflowing.

Review 48:The inside of this place lets it down big time! Payment was asked for straightaway, I now realise why; I wouldn't have paid! I've stayed in better youth hostels in my life. The decor is terrible in fact they have spoilt a beautiful building. The stairway and room were dirty and outdated. The hotel was noisy and uncomfortable. We had the worst stay and nights sleep on our 3 week tour of France.

Review 49:Location is fantastic, the outside of this building is beautiful and the parking was great

Review 50:Not the hotel's fault but we arrived in 90 degree heat with 1 fan for 4 of us in a roof top room. We baked. An extra fan would have been amazing!

Review 51:Great parking facilities and perfect central location.

Review 52:A lovely old building with some quirky decoration. Very close to the centre. Make sure you visit their recommended restaurant just before the main square.

Review 53:A bit shabby looking inside, bedroom was too hot and slept badly.

Review 54:Staff were nice and the breakfast was great. Super location in the old town of Troyes.

Review 55:Single room, very small indeed, tiniest bathroom in the world, probably clean but all looking so very tired, which was a shame,

Review 56:Great location, quirky hotel.

Review 57:Not very clean - rather shabby. No air con so very hard to sleep when it was hot.

Review 58:great central location. Friendly staff. Easy to park on site if pre-booked and at a good price

Review 59:Hotel is being renovated which it needs. Painting the walls, replacing carpets. This didn't distract from the visit and will look great when complete

Review 60:Location was fantastic and loved the secure parking to ensure we didn't need to unload the car which was full of camping stuff for the rest of our holiday. Breakfast was also great

Review 61:Very strange room layout and our stay was spoilt by a party held across the courtyard car park that went on all night. Not the hotel's fault but made it very hard to sleep. Luckily it wasn't too hot, so we didn't have to have the windows open but as there's no air con, it could have been even worse.

Review 62:Good location, near the centre of Troyes.

Review 63:Car park very tight. Nervous when asked to leave car keys with reception. Room up many flights of stairs with no lift (very old building)

Review 64:Fantastic city centre location. Car parking available. Lots of internal and external character.

Review 65:Room was not as clean as other places. No air

Review 66:Location was excellent. Kind of funky, quirky environment. Breakfast was good. Had a four poster bed with a chandelier!

Review 67:This summer some AirCo in the room would be great - but it was in the breakfast area. At hot night you could hear people talking on the streets, coming back from parties & restaurants.

Review 68:Very good location, centre of Trois. The building is REALLY old, so one should be prepared for this (inclined floors, no Hilton-like passages). The staff was really nice. We could leave the car morning and go for sightseeing.

Review 69:Slightly dated but really just part of the atmosphere.

Review 70:Really quirky. Great parking hidden parking if like us you were travelling with a car loaded with stuff.

Review 71:Great central location with secure parking. Very easy with children and dog, with plenty of room. Delicious fresh breakfast buffet was great value for money. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 72:The evening receptionist is always very welcoming and helpful. Nothing seems too much for her! The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, as is the location.

Review 73:No air condition what in summer was an issue, small detail but annoying was to carry suitcases to third floor with no elevator but it was only a minor issue. For 2-stars hotel it was a great place to be.

Review 74:Great staff at reception and location of the hotel. I liked pretty much hotel look as well, it was like jump back 300 years.

Review 75:Can hear other people in their rooms. NO air conditioning and in the summer this is a MUST! Or provide guests with fans. No tea or coffee facilities in the rooms.

Review 76:Free Wifi, large rooms. Breakfast was nice too. Location great. Parking cheap (EURO 7).

Review 77:Very shabby rooms, poor decor and not very clean. No tea and coffee in room, no ironing board available.

Review 78:Excellent location in the heart of the old town and lots of character.

Review 79:Breakfast very average.

Review 80:Fab location. Perfectly fine hotel for a night in Troyes. Really old buildings, but what it may lack in facilities it makes up for in charm.

Review 81:A really historic building, in need of some upgrading( which seems to be in progress at the moment). Booking was for a double and a superior twin but we were given two normal doubled. But the staff were very accommodating and swapped the rooms and gave us a discount to compensate for the error.

Review 82:Can't think of anything. Could have done with some air-conditioning but that was the fault of the weather, not the hotel.

Review 83:The hotel has a great atmosphere. It's a bit creaky, but that's why we chose it. All the important things are there.

Review 84:Perfect location- 2 minute walk to restaurants/cafes. Large room- no.36- 1 double,3 singles. We were able to park our car in a secure driveway just outside our room. Breakfast was a feast!

Review 85:We stayed over and it was above 30 degrees at 23:30, unfortunately all the windows face the centre court and there was no air conditioning, so it was very uncomfortable to sleep. On a cooler night I am sure it would've been fine, but AC would help a lot. We avoided breakfast, mainly due to cost and knowing a nice breakfast place on the way out of tow.

Review 86:Location was perfect, staff were friendly and although it was located in a small street parking was accommodated across the road and was secure.

Review 87:We loved the location of this hotel. The room was basic but comfortable. Unfortunately it was very hot the night we were there and our room was right at the top of the building and so was very hot. The hotel is easy to find on foot but quite tricky in a car as there are lots of one way systems.

Review 88:Being right in the heart of the old town. The secure parking was good and I would recommend it as otherwise you would have to park some distance away.

Review 89:The towels were pretty old, the carpets wearing thin, bathrooms very tired and evidence of mould. Part of the charm in some respects!

Review 90:Such an old, interesting hotel. Friendly staff, good location. Very higgledy piggledy due to it's age but staying there was an historical experience in itself! Secure parking available and recommended as there's very little option in the centre.

Review 91:Room generally grubby, shabby, dirty. In need of decoration and a good clean.

Review 92:Location good: nice and central, walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Breakfast quite good. On-site parking useful. Staff friendly.

Review 93:Our first room was rather cramped and the bathroom curtain was missing. We changed to another room which was fine - spacious and no curtain issues.

Review 94:Staff all very friendly and helpful Excellent parking in secure location

Review 95:It is an old building but it needs some TLC (carpet and wallpaper looking very tired)

Review 96:Location is fantastic for access to the old city. Our son loved the medieval theme to the hotel, especially the armour and swords in the breakfast room. Room size was great and breakfast selections were good.

Review 97:The hotel furnishings were very tired. The carpet was threadbare and our room door wouldn't shut properly.

Review 98:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good.

Review 99:Our small room was dreadfully hot and while we would not expect air conditioning in a historic building a ceiling or even free standing fan would have helped.

Review 100:A really interesting building, and the breakfast was good.

Review 101:The bedroom was small and the shower tiny with loose pipe connections and shower head leading to loss of power and inadvertent water spray around the bathroom.

Review 102:The location was good for seeing the centre of town though difficult to find by car. Despite the small bedroom the bed itself was very comfortable.

Review 103:could do with aircon or at least a fan, particularly during heatwave weather! We opened the windows fully and slept ok, and we didn't ask for a fan so one may have been available

Review 104:central location, good value. and an incredibly helpful member of staff in the morning we left - we had a flat battery and she was so helpful in finding help, especially as we don't speak French very well.

Review 105:We stayed during the heat wave in July. The room was tiny and boiling hot with no air movement. I read the reviews before booking so I was aware that there was renovation going on and the communal areas were in need of a make over, but be aware just how out of date it is.

Review 106:Located in central Troyes. We managed to get a small fan for the room from the lovely girl at reception.

Review 107:The building has been around for a long time and is very quirky. Good size rooms, excellent service from the staff and a good breakfast. Also a very good location in the old town. A winner.

Review 108:Cramped, rather dingy room, tiny shower with cracked tiles.

Review 109:Friendly, helpful staff, great position in town, accessible garaging, comfortable bed, and (unexpectedly) good breakfast,

Review 110:creaky wooden floorboards

Review 111:everything was perfect. room was spacious and huge. very clean and bright. even had a kitchen for simple cooking. parking right outside the door. wifi was strong. staff were very freindly and helpful. extremely value for money. location is in the heart of troyes, a 20min drive to the mcarthur glen outlet

Review 112:No lift to the room which was difficult with 2 suitcases and a spiral staircase. Bed was very hard and only one pillow each.

Review 113:The room was lovely, staff were helpful and parking convenient

Review 114:Arrived late on a long journey from the south to find this charming hotel dead centre of town and perfect for all our needs. Some have given negative comments for 'uneven floors and walls' etc but have clearly missed the whole point of its old world charm. I would definitely stay again.

Review 115:I had to leave...

Review 116:I loved everything about this hotel. It is in one (actually two or three) of the old houses in the historical centre, so it has a special style. The rooms are also decorated in this style. The hotel is on the way from the railway station to the main sights, so it is a convenient base to discover the town (which is beautiful). I had breakfast once and though it was continental, it was quite rich.

Review 117:No bad experience - just the carpet and decorations in the stairs and hallways could do with a spruce up.

Review 118:The building is old and fits in perfectly with its surroundings as the city is full of history. Room was bright and cosy with a nice bed.

Review 119:A beautiful building externally and quite mad inside. Not sure what was original but it was very interesting.m Secure parking was a real bonus. A fantastic choice of items for breakfast. Troyes itself was fascinating and well worth a return visit.

Review 120:It's a no frills hotel....quite basic... which was fine for us...

Review 121:We stayed in apartment 40 which was perfect as it had two bedrooms upstairs for the kids, we stayed in the room downstairs. Breakfast was fine - it's a quaint hotel in a prime location.

Review 122:Decorating was being completed on the landings and stairways which meant we had to climb over paint pots and ladders. There is no lift which meant we had a long walk up to the second (top floor) with heavy suitcases. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. The lengthy town history in the room folder is only in French so we couldn't access this which was a pity.

Review 123:Overall central location and ease of walking distance to the station. The staff were friendly and the breakfasts were reasonable. The beds were extremely comfy and the room was cleaned well.

Review 124:Full of atmosphere, as it's original. Very close to the old town centre and all its atmospheric restaurants. Secure parking, and pet friendly also.

Review 125:Shame there was no bar open, as we had travelled from England and could have done with a beer/wine on arrival.

Review 126:Traditional centre of town hotel, nicely shabby gentile. Helpful, friendly staff.

Review 127:We have stayed in this hotel 3 times before but our recent visit was not a pleasant one. The wall between room 23 & 24 is so thin you can hear everything going on between rooms. Our neighbours were in and out of their room until late at night. We could hear them plugging plugs in the wall, we could hear them washing, we even heard them complaining about the "water going everywhere". As we needed to leave early we were up at 06:00, as we were washing and packing the lady in room 23 was banging the wall telling us to "shut up", the only noise that was being made from our room was the water running and the floor boards creaking, unfortunately this noise was unavoidable by us.

Review 128:The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the old town of Troyes. Parking is secure. Staff very friendly and helpful. WiFi was easily accessible and quick.

Review 129:The price has increased greatly since the new owners took over and the hotel is more or less the same. On this occasion we were given a room which was too small for the double bed squeezed in there, as well as the bathroom shoehorned into a corner _ (these rooms used to be single rooms with a sink in the corner and shared bathroom ) The room was stuffy and airless if you closed the window and too noisy from street noise to sleep with it closed - we had a bad night. We will not stay here again.

Review 130:This hotel is an old friend - I have stayed here for occasionally for over 20 years. The hotel is in a 16th century timber framed house which is fascinating if you like history and architecture

Review 131:The stair carpet was old and worn which was at odds with the nicely decorated rooms. But only a minor fault.

Review 132:An interesting medieval building very close to Troyes old town. Room comfortable and quiet. Good value for money and with private parking at a reasonable price.

Review 133:I appreciate it is an old building but it felt dirty. It needed decoration badly, the carpets were torn. The bedroom felt dirty too. Bathroom door wouldn't close, hardly any water pressure. Bed was small. Because it was so poor I've cancelled another booking in eight days time with the hotel immediately

Review 134:Secure parking
