Reviews for Causeway Coast Independent Hostel

Review 1:Difficult to find because there is short information outside. No internet in room but there are a great dinning room with WiFi and a pretty cat.

Review 2:The owner was soooo kind with us. The house is very cozy. Everything is tiny and clean.

Review 3:great place to stay! Rick is a lovely host and the place feels more like home than hostel. big, clean and well equipped kitchen. we ddidn't try the showers since we only stayed one night, but the room and bathroom were really clean :)

Review 4:Some of the beds might be a little uncomfortable

Review 5:Rick is super friendly and will help you with any problem. The hostel has everything you need, especially the kitchen. And even a little breakfast is provided.

Review 6:Nothing, all good.

Review 7:The location and friendliness of the owner who was very welcoming and informative. Fantastic value for money. First time staying in a hostel, will definitely be back

Review 8:Rick was wery nice and welcomed us very warmly. He offered us breakfast and wifi access though we did not expect it as it was not in the website. Very well located in the centre of Portstewart and a few steps from the sea shore.

Review 9:Shabby - but then it was very reasonably priced - can't have it all!

Review 10:Very friendly staff - gave excellent local information. Breakfast included, which wasn't expected. Quiet at night.

Review 11:We were given a room on the ground floor, situated between the common room and the kitchen. This meant that we heard a lot of noise, especially considering that some very active and noisy children were also staying there and were constantly screaming and running in the hallway and even knocking on our door and trying to enter it.

Review 12:Rick is very friendly and will give you good tips about what to visit at the Causeway Coast. Room was clean and tidy.

Review 13:Ricks hostel in portsewart is 50 metres from the shore line you can smell the salt air through your window. I had a very relaxing stay there, and there are lots of nice walks about this causeway town. I found this Hostel a good clean well run Hostel to stay in as life there ‘for guests’ is easy going for instance one day, I visited the Giant’s Causeway and Dulce Castle and then on to Bushmills Whiskey Distillery, which are all nearby and when I got back to what felt like home in the Hostel. After cooking a nice meal, I enjoyed some Bushmills Whiskey and French wine with the other guests. We were all there for the moto racing. Rick’s Hostel is a nice place of true character and charm. Free Wi-Fi and all the mod coms are also there plus a good breakfast.

Review 14:It was very convenient place and well organised. All the facilities were there that we needed - even wifi ! Room was spacious enough and comfortable. Rick was very helpful.

Review 15:Warm welcoming fire in the common room and bedroom warm.rick was very welcoming and helpful.the light breakfast was just what we needed to get us started.

Review 16:It is a perfect place to stay if you drive from Causeway Giant. Love it and Rick is super helpful! Thank you for being inspiring and we are so glad to have nice talks with you. We even got the entire floor since it is low season. Breakfast is enough and we cooked in the kitchen. Fully satisfied.

Review 17:Myself and my friend decided on a change of scenery. Pleased to say that this is a nice, clean hostel inside. Rick was very helpful. The Kitchen had everything you could need. Good value for money. Shops and town centre- only a short walk away. We we're surprised that everything was there for a continental breakfast the next day.

Review 18:Could do with a little more warmth in the room. I'm not sure if we were mean to turn the radiators on ourselves, but we weren't told that in any case.

Review 19:Rick was incredibly helpful. He showed us round the place and told us what we needed to know. There's a common area and a kitchen you can use at your own discretion, and Rick keeps out of the way, but is quick to assist when you need it!

Review 20:Stayed in en suite double room for 3 nights over Xmas. Good central heating, nice hot power shower, good kitchen and dining area. During the evenings, toasted ourselves in front of the real fire in the lounge. Rick made us feel very welcome. It was like staying in our own home.

Review 21:Stayed here for 2 nights mainly to visit the giants causeway. We got a large room as a couple. The kitchen was very usable with a seperate dining room. The lounge had a fire running each night where we could eat our home made dinner while watching tellevision. A simple breakfast with toast, juices and cereals was provided and coffee free to make all day. Usable, cheap accommodation :-)

Review 22:Nice an cosy hostel and great value for money, there were three of us (a couple and a brother) and we booked 3 beds in a shared room, one half of the room was ours and it was partially separated with a wall so we had our privacy. The bathroom is inside the room and we even got a nice little breakfast in the morning with cereal, toast, tea, coffee, juice, etc. The kitchen is really nice and there are facilities to cook. Manuel is very nice, grazie mille! :)

Review 23:The rooms are in a mess... The manager doesn't seem to need visitors... He's never there, even when you have to go... And so, to pay: At 9am, I waited 30min before he came back from elsewhere and then could pay him my night. so next time, if this happens to you that he's not at home, thn get out without paying, it ok! Feel free not to loose your time waiting.

Review 24:A nice young girl who is living and working for the manager offers you her services, and knows well the town. The is not that much hostels in Portstewart, so this one can help if you've got nothing else. Breakfast included in the pirce, and not that bad... Neither that good, but it can help you for the day.

Review 25:The place is great for a traveler on a budget - cheap, clean, great location to the promenade. Moreover, there was a nice vibe, people traveling through, hanging out, though quiet at night as well. But the best was Rick, he is friendly, accommodating, and extremely helpful. He gave us a few tips that really saved us some money and stress. Totally recommend.

Review 26:Very friendly host and guests, breakfast, tea and coffee included. WIFI only in the kitchen area. Bedding very good-smelling (felt like home).Ginger, the cat ;-). Stunning area around.

Review 27:Decor and carpets a little outdated making it look not clean even tho it probably was.

Review 28:Late check in (phoned ahead). Upgraded rooms for us at no cost. Kitchen well stocked. Limited wifi WAS available. On street parking was available.

Review 29:The owner was very friendly, helpful and a thoroughly decent guy. Great location just by the harbour, promenade and herring pond. I liked our family room which had a bit of character and also liked that there were loads of decent books to read all round the hostel. All in all, it was great value for money and I'd recommend this hostel to anyone

Review 77:Warm welcome, relaxed approach from landlord, location and views across bay from bay windows, well equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting room, separate eating area, easy staircase for those with walking difficulties to first floor, plenty of bedding to use, some nice ensuites, toilet on landing also, friendly fellow guests. Plus easy distance of coastal walks and the promenade with it's little shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, public library with computer access, supermarket, and small sandy beach, children's play area and impressive school on headland like a fortress in near distance. The bus stop in yards of accommodation for those with luggage to nearby places and Belfast coastal route.

Review 78:I liked the simplicity of the team and conversations with fellow travelers about the various experiences in other countries. Also which cities to visit in Ireland and how this country is green and beautiful....

Review 79:Rick was an excellent, helpful, friendly host, and the location was simply SPECTACULAR. Since we are never concerned about luxurious accommodations but about location and proximity to the sites we want to see, Rick's place was perfect for us, and he was very accommodating about our needs. The common room, dining area, and kitchen were very well done and well arranged; the common room was especially well done and welcoming; the fire each evening gave it a home touch, and Rick was always ready to lend advice or just conversation.

Review 80:The staff there were really nice. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we felt like we stay at home, not a hostel. When it was cold outside, the staff even lit the fire on in the living room and it was so warm and comfy.

I also liked that they provide a free breakfast and wifi to the customers. There is also a kitchen with all the facilities for anyone wishing to prepare their own meals.
