Reviews for Cross Foxes - Bar Grill Rooms

Review 1:No mount gay rum behind the bar. :-)

Review 2:Fantastic staff . Nice warm welcome. Very nice rooms. Excellent bar and restaurant. Great breakfast. Very good value.

Review 3:Friendly staffs, great bar menu and wine, dog friendly bar ( dog friendly room would have been even better! hint hint!) 2 and not the last time we'll be staying.

Review 4:we had a lovely time- weather was not good but still came home feeling relaxed and thinking about when we can go back- particularly enjoyed saturday evening- fireworks- mulled wine- hog roats and a great singer- lovely comfortable- friendly place- well done to all involved a great team

Review 5:Noise outside was pretty bad at night. The price was too high for what we experienced. Very slow internet.

Review 6:It's a nice little hotel, very relaxing atmosphere. The room was clean with a modern bathroom. Staff was really friendly.

Review 7:Nothing

Review 8:The hotel was fantastic, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the food was some of the best that I have tasted in a while. We will definitely be returning.

Review 9:Fab location if you are walking or sight seeing .Very friendly staff & a warm welcome . Lovely room and I really enjoyed the fabulous full welsh breakfast . Well done I will deffo stay there again ... Hopefully for a bit longer.

Review 10:The staff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable. We were given extra milk with a homemade biscuit on arrival, its all in the detail! The breakfast was a good cooked Welsh starter and the whole atmosphere of the place was superb. Its very close to Cadair Idris and not too far from a beach so plenty of walking! The only downside was, that particular weekend, England were playing Wales in the Rugby, and England lost!! We will most definitely stay again.

Review 11:Fantastic little hotel with beautiful bedrooms & en-suite. Great location for visiting the Mach Loop ! Food, Bar & Staff all excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Review 12:N/A Theres nothing there you wont like, as we had brill time there.

Review 13:The most friendly establishment, fantastic food, staff very friendly, very welcoming, will be staying there again . Def anybody thinking of going there , do go there. Proper country pub, accommodation, and beautiful scenery.

Review 14:We were left standing waiting to check in, while staff appeared to be running around. The evening meal was very average, our breakfast on the first morning, omlette, was inedible!! On a very busy road so the rooms are noisy. Limited space for residents to relax.

Review 15:The rooms are beautifully and luxuriously furnished. No expense has been spared on this property with the furnishing etc.

Review 16:During our stay there were a number dishes on menu or elements of a dish that were unavailable. Also my husbands favourite beer was not available. This may sound trivial but on the 1st morning mushrooms were not available for full Welsh breakfast. The 2nd morning, they were available and we had half a small mushroom each. I guess not a problem if you're not a mushroom fan!

Review 17:Location and decor

Review 18:Dinner was nice, but didn't live up to the hype, just an ordinary pub meal. Located at the intersection of 2 roads that carry a lot of traffic, so a bit noisy.

Review 19:The accommodation was modern and reasonably spacious by UK standards. Breakfast was excellent, best ever porridge. Lovely outdoor deck. unfortunately the weather wasn't conducive to using it.

Review 20:Feather bedding(asthmatic) menu did not resemble exemplar on web. Breakfast terrible. Bacon stiff and hard, lava bread inedible -oily, tasteless, insufficient portion (thank God) in this instance. No small fridge for keeping milk overnight.

Review 21:Bedroom comfortable but allocated the wrong room. My husband chose an omelette which was cooked fresh and was edible.

Review 22:The room was cold when we first checked in as central heating didn't come on until 4.30pm.

Review 23:Bar and restaurant on site was really convenient after long day walking

Review 24:Tea and Coffee making facilities could be better, offered fresh milk and biscuits first night. Not seen again on 2nd night.

Review 25:Quality of the rooms was outstanding.

Review 26:I really don't have any complaints!

Review 27:We loved our room! The beautiful bathroom and shower to the quality of the towelling and bedding was fantastic! The weather was awful, with the wind howling outside, but we felt wonderfully relaxed and cozy inside. We had a beautiful meal in the evening, the food tasted amazing, we couldn't finish it all it was well portioned! I loved the little touches too, the member of staff that showed us to our room brought us homemade shortbread biscuits and fresh milk! Loved Crossfoxes & will be returning!!

Review 28:Unfortunately for us, something was wrong with the heating in our suite, and we shivering as it was so cold, also the wifi was not working. I addressed these issues with a member of staff the next morning, and I was told I should have reported the heating issues the previous night, but to me it seemed irrelevant, as at 10.30pm even if rectified it would have taken another hour for the room to warm up, likewise in the motning. The wifi was not working due to bad weather. I'm sure these circumstances were a one off.

Review 29:Everything including the food was nice. Worth a visit.

Review 30:Food was excellent and great value. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bedroom beautifully furnished and en-suite high spec. Will stay here again. Beautiful scenery too.

Review 31:Housekeeping needed a little shaking up at times but I believe the girl was new, definitely wouldn't stop us going back though which we plan to do sometime next year.

Review 32:A lovely place for a couple of days away, made to feel very welcome by the staff at all times and the food is superb. Definitely a place to stop if you like a bit of piece and quite but still to be looked after.

Review 33:Wifi connection was rather sketchy but that's not the end of the world (and we are all WAY too fixated about getting online!!)

Review 34:We had come to walk Snowdon and it was a beautiful drive from the hotel to the start point (just over an hour). Rooms were well decorated with wonderful soft pillows and a good shower. Wide range of items available at breakfast and the staff were friendly and efficient. Cosy bustling bar, perfect for our autumn weekend away.

Review 35:lots of cleaning equipment left in lots of places in plain view all day long

Review 36:Extremely nice room & bathroom Popular bar Rural but quick into town

Review 37:Lack of shelving in bedroom.

Review 38:The place is a good blend of old with contemporary that provides a warm cosy feel. The menu is good but the wine list is excellent with some classic choices. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice for both meat lovers & veggies. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful with a particular mention for Chris who runs the bar and the Red haired lady who serves breakfast, they both go that extra mile!! A small criticism is the lack of shelving in our bedroom which although minor was annoying. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back. The area has tremendous walks and a very pleasant cycle path from Dolgellau to Barnmouh. Highly recommended.

Review 39:from 6am the side road below our window became busy and noisy

Review 40:Chris Lee gave us a good welcome and his service the evening was very good. The lady who served breakfast was also very good. Your Roumanian chef was unaware of how to prepare fried bread - he does now!!

Review 41:Great atmosphere, service and food. The location was perfect for us, we were driving around North Wales and Snowdonia and used this as a last stop before going home. We had a great stay.

Review 42:Shutters in the bedroom windows weren't great at keeping the daylight out in the mornings, recommend you use an eye mask if this would bother you. Due to it's proximity to the main road, noise from traffic could be hear, but for how long you'll spend in the room it wasn't a problem for us (and I always pack ear plugs on my travels!). Bathroom was really hot due to the radiator towel warmer that we couldn't turn off, so had to keep a window open to keep the room cool. Despite this, none of these points affected our experience. They are more niggles than complaints. We still had a lovely time and really enjoyed our stay.

Review 43:From the moment we arrived all staff were really helpful, happy and friendly throughout our two night stay. Food was awsome. Not the cheapest food, but for 5 star food it was excellent value. Some reviews moaned about a 25 minute wait. If you want fresh food cooked to order, then you have to be prepared to wait. We had no cause to complain about this, service was excellent and staff were very attentive. Breakfast was delicious too and plenty of it to choose from. The bar had a good range of beers (much to hubby's delight). We had two complimentary glasses of bubbly too, when one of the managers overheard us wishing each other a happy anniversary. It must have been a good hour later when he bought the bubbly over, and yet he remembered even though he was very busy. We were there on a Friday and Saturday night, and both evenings were busy in the restaurant and bar, with many people eating/drinking who weren't residents. It's not a very big hotel but clearly got a good reputation. The room was very comfortable and furnished very nicely, and the bathroom (shower only) was very smart and well finished. Overall, we had a really relaxing comfortable break, and the hardest thing to do was choose from the menu and the bar! We're usually very critical of places and service, but there's no criticism here.

Review 44:Our bed dipped in the middle making an uncomfortable sleep. Food was ok. Curtains and attention to other details of decoration needs some attention and we had damp patches in areas of our room.

Review 45:This was a very good location for us as we had family a short distance away. The room we had was of a good size.

Review 46:Idris suite was very clean and comfortable with a great bathroom and countryside views. Building is very well appointed, food very enjoyable and staff pleasant and helpful. Plenty of free parking.

Review 47:Unfortunately located on a fairly busy and noisy main road junction. Not possible to sleep with windows open on a warm evening.

Review 48:Comfortable and modern furnishings. Food excellent, dinner and breakfast.

Review 49:Triple glazing would have been the icing on the cake as some vehicles travelling on the road were incredibly noisy.

Review 50:Location allowed us to travel around Wales comfortably. The food and beverage selection was outstanding. The young team worked well together. Rooms lovely and spacious and the ensuites were second to none.

Review 51:All staff were pleasent and friendly, and made our day when they left a surprise in our room for our ruby annivesary,The food was excellent.,we would recommend this hotel .

Review 52:Not much to dislike, really. If I wanted to be picky, easy to bang a shin on the edge of the bed and there was some traffic noise (to be expected on the meeting of two major roads), but no that intrusive. We were there on a Sunday and it was fairly quiet in the evening.

Review 53:Our room was very large and very attractive. I liked the use of slate especially and the shower was very good. Food was OK, although not that well described on the menu. Communication prior to arrival was good, as was the welcome.

Review 54:Wifi coverage was intermittent and there was no mobile telephone coverage except for Orange users.

Review 55:Beautiful spot on the A470, comfortable with helpful staff.

Review 56:Staff were friendly. Food was good. A relaxed atmosphere. Refurbishment was excellent with attention to detail. Very clean bathroom and bedroom. The surrounding countryside is stunning.

Review 113:It was on a busy road and no double glazing so it was noisy with the traffic, and also it was a special occasion and we asked for the Al a carte menu and it wasn't on.

Review 114:Lovely decor comfortable and the food was fab!

Review 115:They ran out of Lava bread at breakfast :-(
