Reviews for Penmaenuchaf Hall Hotel
Review 1:A fabulous location for a relaxing night away. Beautiful lake drive only around the corner and Fairbourne ( 10 minute drive ) has a lovely beach and the weather was fantastic. Breakfast and dinner was fab and for once gluten intolerant individuals are fed and treated with great ease.
Review 2:If we had of known the view was non existent we would have been tempted to upgrade. Booked the room as it advertised it being dog friendly which it is but you have to upgrade your room (£40) and then pay £20 for the dog which really isn't worth it
Review 3:Location and gardens were lovely and staff very friendly
Review 4:DIDNT LIKE THAT THEY CHANGED OUR BED BEFORE WE HAD CHECKED OUT AND BEEN IN TO START CLEANING BEFORE WE HAD A CHANCE TO PACK AND TIDY AROUND.
Review 5:BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS, LOVELY, WARM, CLEAN COUNTRY HOUSE. LOVELY FOOD IN THE RESTAURANT AND THE STAFF ATTENTIVE AND FRIENDLY.
Review 6:Standard (Williams) room was our only option as we had the last room available. This was small and dark with views of walls. no separate shower in a fairly large bathroom. Slow service at breakfast, but it was worth waiting for.
Review 7:A lovely hotel, with quality furnishings in the public rooms. A feeling of staying in a private house with family photographs on display. nice friendly hosts. Small but lovely menu, with attentive service at dinner.
Review 8:I was visiting this place that my family used to own, before it became a hotel....so it was nice to come back and see it, and see all the nice things they had done with the place....Its one of the nicest places I know. I was also uograded to a better room, that gave me good memories.
Review 9:I liked everything!
Review 10:My partner and I stayed at this unique, quaint, country house hotel in June 2015. It's a great place to visit and stay - a place far from the maddening crowd! Silver service absolutely perfect - the best I've every seen. We both thought the hotel, grounds, location, food and service received from the staff were absolutely perfect.
Review 11:Extremely poor service. Absolutely no customer service, room had last guests items in bathroom. The mini bar had two juices, one 5 months past sell by date, one four months past. They put two biscuits in caddy which were almost moldy. The male part owner sat and watched my partner struggle with bags trying to carry to car, offered no help. Meanwhile I paid the £750 bill for junior suite without a word of thank you or how was your stay. Do not eat in restaurant !!! food is awful and 'waitress' started preparing for breakfast and banging around table while we ate a £125 meal (plus wine). Breakfast - gave me wrong food twice, 45 minutes to be served. waitress was on last day, she stated it was the worst place to work and couldn't wait to leave ! Nice whilst having breakfast.
Review 12:The location
Review 13:The overall feel of the place is a little bit "old school", stuffy and pretentious. The staff are not as welcoming as i'd expected. Its just a little bit eccentric.
Review 14:The bed was very comfortable. The decor inside is great. The room was nice and airy, even on the top floor in warm weather
Review 15:The evening dinner menu left a lot to be desired..as there was very little choice!! Menus were not available until late in the day..Yet we were asked at breakfast time if we wanted a table for the evening without knowing what the Chef had decided to prepare!!!
Review 16:The bedroom suite was excellent!!!
Review 17:Staff didn't appear very happy or friendly or relaxed. We requested a room with a view however our room (Williams) looked straight at a brick wall, two feet away!! Perhaps we should have been advised of this on booking if it was the only rom available as it spoiled our stay.
Review 18:Location of the hotel. Beautiful gardens with views of the surrounding countryside
Review 19:- A bit uptight. - Lots of weird rules in the blue book. - Our friends had a dog and they had to use a special entrance to the hotel - Wifi was pretty slow, but then it kinda forced us to disconnect.
Review 20:-Beautiful gardens and the house. Secluded location. - Delicious food and great breakfast. Worth getting bed&breakfast rate - Our room was spacious - Packed up lunches were very useful for hiking trips.
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:Di and all staff within the hotel were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. They made a lot of effort to recommend and help us assess our activity options for the weekend and the whole experience felt very genuine and relaxed. Would highly recommend this hotel as a relaxing escape for the weekend and am looking forward to returning at some point soon.
Review 23:Beautiful, friendly one night stay in a fabulous setting. Food was excellent. Celebrating wedding anniversary......could'nt of been better. Thanks to all staff for making us so welcome.
Review 24:Very little to dislike. Access road is tight, steep and requires care.
Review 25:Magnificent location and gardens. Friendly staff and personal attention Meals were superb in a very pleasant dining room with garden access. Quit and relaxing atmosphere with some quirky decor and two guest lounges Individual approach to room names rather than numbers was a nice touch.
Review 26:The staff were extremely ignorant to our booking our room wasn't prepared , they were extremely rude. We ovwr heard them talking about us in the kitchen whilst we were having breakfast which was extremely upsetting . Hugelying disappointed as it was a wonderful hotel .
Review 27:The location was beautiful .
Review 28:Away from main road.
Review 29:Expected room to have better view.
Review 30:Magnificent lounges and restaurants. Excellent and beautifully served food and amazing wine list.
Review 31:The quiet and the comfort
Review 32:No porter
Review 33:Overall very good though sometimes uncomfortably quiet!
Review 34:Beautiful location, building & grounds.
Review 35:The 40 minute wait for our breakfst order to arrive
Review 36:The excellent evening meal and fine wines
Review 37:They charge £90 for two nights for thre year old child
Review 38:Area
Review 39:The house was beautiful. It was quiet and tranquil And extremely relaxing. Perfect for our first wedding anniversary
Review 40:Beautiful hotel and excellent venue for the wedding we attended there
Review 41:Fabulous location, set in beautiful grounds. Wonderful classic style throughout, real feel of luxury. Staff super nice, open and friendly.
Review 42:Location accommodation and food
Review 43:The drive up was narrow and winding with very high speed humps
Review 44:Lovely open fires on a cold wet February day
Review 45:No pool/spa
Review 46:Food was excellent (although more dinner selection would have been welcome) Loved the lounges and warm, cosy atmosphere
Review 47:No View, room window facing a wall. Poor room decoration
Review 48:Great location Nice staff Good food
Review 49:Overpriced, somewhat casual staff,
Review 50:food
Review 51:Was a pleasure to stay, staff, owner, food everything was great!!
Review 52:Everything just perfect. Food was fabulous. Can't wait to go back next summer
Review 53:Bats in our bedroom The attitude of the owner when reporting our problem
Review 54:Not a lot
Review 55:Bedroom over the kitchen and fans although the hotel didn't appear that busy. Large double was 2 singles pushed together. Marks in the paintwork which could have been touched up. Large, ragged hole in dressing gown. For the price advertised it is disappointing that the little details aren't given more attention.
Review 56:Staff were very friendly and helpful; beautiful grounds and building.
Review 57:Some basics need fixing such as no conditioner in the bathroom, only shampoo and body wash. Also ironing board and iron which were brought upon request were very old and not very clean
Review 58:Amazing gardens and restaurant! This hotel has a very good collection of wines and both breakfast and dinner were superb. Staff is discreet and extremely helpful
Review 59:Nothing, really.
Review 60:The efficiency and friendliness of the owners, and staff; the overall ambience; location in the trees and within Snowdonia National Park; lovely rooms; excellent food.
Review 61:The (albeit small) extras for certain dishes. The speed humps on the driveway - the last but one was impossible to negotiate even at crawling speed without grounding.
Review 62:Impeccable service, comfortable rooms, excellent food.
Review 63:Quality of dinner was excellent but small portions and came away still hungry. Quite expensive at £42.50 per head and many items also had surcharges.
Review 64:Location. Comfortable rooms Quality food Good service Breakfast was excellent both in quality and quantity
Review 65:Owners and staff. Felt that the focus was no longer on the guests. In fact, guests needs are not the priority. Bathroom tiny with bugs in bath. No separate shower. 2 flights of stairs and narrow corridors. Food bland. Poor value for money. Badly organised (eg. breakfast advertised from 7,30am. Ground floor in darkness and no service until 8.30am and no apology from owner).
Review 66:Bed was comfortable and property with views was charming.
Review 67:price was a bit steep but it was august bank holiday when we went. you get what you pay for this was expensive but had lovely personal touches from the lady of the house.
Review 68:attention to detail, classy accommodation, perfect decor inkeeping with the age and style of the country house.food was good and friendly staff.
Review 69:Nothing really ... if I had to be very picky - it would have been nice to have a walk-in shower rather than one over a bath but guess that's personal preference!
Review 70:We loved the location, the style and country house feel, the friendly staff and the excellent food!
Review 71:Focussing on client service, and maintaining the public rooms, might ocassionally cause the owners to overlook bedroom comfort. Hence I did mention a slightly lumpy mattress in our room. It was also very hot,and while a fan was supplied,we would have appreciated another. After all they are available from Tesco,s for £12.24! The owner did say he would look into it. I he does.
Review 72:This is a family run hotel, where they have a passion for the service, comfort, beauty of the classically built house of the late 1800,s which into a special kind of ambience, for guests. From the smell of beeswax polish on the furniture...to enjoyment of the sunken gardens over looking the estuary. The same staff have looked after visitors for many years. A feature the owners must be pleased about, engendering a feel good aspect to everything that happens here. 5 stars all through.
Review 73:Downstairs areas, a bit gloomy and old fashioned.
Review 74:I thought the service in the restaurant was excellent, friendly and efficient. The room was very comfortable, the bed especially.
Review 75:The dinner venue was very poor. A 7:30 dinner reservation meant you sat in a large lounge waiting to be called into dinner for an hour and a half to an almost empty dinning room; this was very annoying. Also, dinner food was not good and if you complained nothing was done to remendy the situation. Also, our housekeeper never got the number of towels for our room correct. We were given 4 cookies total in our room for three days for two people and told that's all we get when we asked for two more; now is that not ridiculous! Also, no lotion available, little things like that made this not a first class hotel.
Review 76:The hotel and common rooms were beautiful; our room was nice and the breakfast buffet was good. The grounds were lovely.
Review 77:Neither of these will stop me from staying there again, but wanted to explain why I didn't rate the staff very high. Other than the owners who were quite lovely people. The staff was polite, but not helpful. We were shown to our room, but not handed the key, had to ask for it. It was on a Welsh Spoon, which is lovely touch, it would be nice to be asked if the visitor knows about it and explain the beautiful carving you are being handed. Beware the room key does not fit a pocket or small handbag. A full Welsh Breakfast was included, but a menu was presented and not explained why or how to order off it. It would have been much easier and quicker for all of us if she would have just taken 1 min and explained how it worked.
Review 78:The Estate is beautifully decorated with traditional and period furniture. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The grounds are beautiful and the walking paths were brilliant. Will stay again and wish we could have stayed a couple more nights. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
Review 79:Our "luxury" room was above the area where the bins were kept.I think that should be taken into account in the grading. Main menurather expensive.
Review 80:Lovely setting and well-appointed rooms. Excellent, imaginativelypresented food. Elegant ambiance. Helpful staff.
Review 81:One of the rooms we had booked proved to be, in our opinion, describedin an over-enthusiastic and even misleading way. Rather than being"spacious" it seemed cluttered, and the view, though beautifulin itself, did not match what had been promised. This room was very muchmore expensive than the one I had, of which I have no complaints at all.We also thought that while the breakfasts were excellent, the dinnerswere disappointing. There seemed to be some shortage of staff, particularly men, and too much seemed to be being asked of the oneexperienced female member of staff.
Review 82:It was a pleasure to stay in such a beautifully furnished mansion withits lovely public rooms and gardens. The sense of luxury and traditionwas strong.
Review 83:Given that our total bill was already £900, being charged an extra £20pounds to keep my daughters room until 13:00 so that she could feed andchange her 4 week old baby.Perfectly entitled to do so, as rooms are tobe vacated by 11:00, but not customer friendly.
Review 84:Everything including meals were first class and they were very helpfulin arranging a buffet lunch for a group of friends who joined us afterwalking one mourning.
Review 85:Would be good to have some light classical music in the background whilst having breakfast. Maybe someone playing the piano of an evening.
Review 86:Loved the whole set up, beautiful warm log fire, food was good. Breakfast very good. Very clean and very hospitable .
Review 87:The food was not quite as good as it should have been, at the'gourmet' prices charged.
Review 88:The building is a wonderful piece of victorian architecture, with alloriginal features and character, in tact. It is not ultra modern butrather traditional and somewhat old fashioned. It is however immaculateand a great place to relax. It also has wonderful charm and bags ofcharacter. The location is simply stunning.

Review 106:Poor dining service. Poor food at evening meal. Lacked flavour and not well cooked.
Review 107:Lovely bedroom and ensuite. Very comfortable lounges.
Review 108:no background music
Review 109:building, location, room, staff
Review 110:Dinner at £42.50 pp was overpriced for the quality of the dishes
Review 111:service and ambience
Review 112:Nothing.
Review 113:Everything - the wildlife round the hotel, the library, plenty of walking opportunities, the garden, etc.
Review 114:speed bumps in drive (too many and too big) and unecessary! Signage from road very poor.
Review 115:style, comfort, staff friendly, location, history, food
Review 116:Everything was wonderful, great staff, beautiful house and location, excellent food.
