Reviews for George III
Review 1:Our lodge had awful condensation, making it terribly damp. The blinds were see through. So if you were getting dressed in the evening for dinner and someone was passing by you would be able to see in. The staff in general didn't come across as welcoming either. It's a shame because we have stayed here before and really enjoyed it but it seemed to have gone downhill and therefore we may not go back.
Review 2:The view is stunning. Lovely walk into Barmouth. The staff were ok but the lady who waited on us in the evening for dinner was lovely and friendly and really changed the atmosphere.
Review 3:The place could do with a bit of a makeover to make a good hotel into a really good one. The service was a bit slow, but otherwise no complaints.
Review 4:Set in an amazing location in a beautiful building. The food was good and the room comfortable
Review 5:Manager is not particularly cheerful! Carpet on the stairs could do with changing. Parts are worn and could become dangerous. Door at the bottom of stairs is pretty awful!
Review 6:Open fires on a wet dismal day! Food was excellent; dining room staff were attentive and cheerful. Room was lovely with estuary view.
Review 7:Staff not very helpful on arrival. Breakfast not well presented, sausage over cooked on one side and barely cooked on the other.
Review 8:The location, very peaceful and picturesque.
Review 9:Everything was great. The location is fantastic, accommodation warm & comfortable the staff friendly & attentive .The breakfast choice was fabulous & the evening menu was tempting , delicious & we are already planning our return visit !
Review 10:Minor point but poor wifi range a bit of an inconvenience in today's tech world.
Review 11:Phil and the team were really helpful. In particular when I messed up our booking and he managed to accommodate us without the need to move rooms. Also set up table in the 'old' restaurant so we could take our dog with us to breakfast, as we don't like leaving him alone in the room.
Review 12:unsmiling senior staff, there unwillingness to chat and general lack of feeling welcome.
Review 13:location, old world charm of building, food, our waiters and cleaning staff who were polite and helpful,
Review 14:No wifi and very slow service in the restaurant - 40+ minutes for breakfast and even longer for dinner. Not all staff had a smile. They rely heavily on the location which is breathtaking
Review 15:Location, room ( number 4 ) and excellent base for walking/touring
Review 16:Wifi reception was poor, probably due to the thick stone walls, but in the lounge it was OK
Review 17:The location is brilliant the views are amazing. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant.
Review 18:Our room in the old station had superb views from the balcony over the estuary. We had two excellent evening meals, from a varied menu, served by friendly staff.
Review 19:WiFi only available in one spot (however we were there to get away from it all so not an issue!)
Review 20:very friendly and helpful staff. superb view. good pub grub or a step up in the restaurant
Review 21:No vegetarian breakfast despite advance request. No gluten-free bread option.
Review 22:Stunning location and perfect spot for a painting holiday with fabulous views from the bedroom window. The younger staff (summer jobs?) were very friendly and helpful. Very comfortable bed in room No 1.
Review 23:Shower a bit difficult to control - a small gripe though.
Review 24:Location is superb and peaceful. Bar/restaurant also has a lovely view. Good un-complicated food and service for the evening meal. No nonsense fried breakfast. Good beer in the bar from the Purple Moose Brewery. Nice comfortable bed. Lovely to wake up with a view over the river and to the hills the other side of the water. Plenty of seats in different areas around the hotel/pub to sit.
Review 25:The breakfast was poor. The hotel guests' dining room needs updating. It seems like the hotel has seen better days.
Review 26:The location is wonderful and the buildings are very special.
Review 27:spiders in most corners of the room didn't bother me but others it would. just needed a bit of a update/decorate.wifi only worked in the bar not in the room.
Review 28:bed was quite comfy. the view was magnificent from the room, and restaurant had very good food too. also decent parking. bathroom was very clean.
Review 29:Staff were fine but some were not very friendly overall. Facilities are a bit dated and basic in the rooms. This adds to the character in the hotel but bathrooms could be modernised, and there was no blackout blind or curtains. There were no glasses in the room.
Review 30:Excellent location and views. Good menu and decent food.
Review 31:Older staff not so good or friendly, needs cash spending on carpets and the dining room looks outdated, tired.
Review 32:Location is awesome, young fellah by the name of Lewis great customer service.
Review 33:The people (not connected to the hotel) who have just taken charge of the Toll Bridge. Charged me 70p to take my car over, and another 20p when I wanted to take a picture from the bridge. I shall be contacting the Welsh Tourist Board as these people are spoiling the whole experience and Penmaenpool will be remembered for the wrong reasons. Some people (like me) still remember 1966 and the disaster at this bridge.
Review 34:Everything was excellent. Couldn't complain about anything - unlike some people who go out of their way to do so. The staff were friendly, the room (lodge 7) was extremely comfortable, and had a lovely view across the estuary. The evening meal (Alice spring Chicken, with honey &mustard sauce, and breakfast, the hottest I have ever had anywhere were 1st class. Will definitely go back.KK
Review 35:No complaints
Review 36:Stayed at George III for 4 nights. The weather was perfect throughout, and we managed some long walks each day. The location of the Hotel is perfect for the serious hill walker. The Food was good and reasonable priced, although the service could be slow when busy.
Review 37:Rather slow service in the restaurant in the evenings, but did not deter from our lovely time.
Review 38:The location makes an ideal base for accessing other attractions.
Review 39:The location on the Mawddach trail makes it excellent for cycling and walking. Wonderful to return from an active day and enjoy really good food, a great selection and well cooked and presented.
Review 40:All staff were helpful and friendly. Comfy 4-poster bed. Relaxing with drinks in front of log fire on a wet winter evening. Extensive menu. Well cooked breakfast.
Review 41:Inadequate blinds which let the light in, and passers by were able to see in. We had to put towels up at the windows to get a nights sleep. This was on the ground floor of the annex for a room which cost over £100 for the night.
Review 42:Excellent location Lovely food
Review 43:not much. firmer bed but that's being picky
Review 44:location, frankly outrageous pub grub decent room loads of parking superb access to Snowdonia, and by the seaside
Review 45:The staff seemed disinterested. There was a delay of 30 minutes between breakfast order and breakfast arrival. The television in the room did not work at all and no one could do anything about it during our two night stay.
Review 46:The delightful view.
Review 47:The television did not work. Bliss! Adventure is the opposite of television!
Review 48:George III is amazing in every respect. It is beautifully and quietly located, and convenient for Barmouth and Aberdovey. The views from the hotel are outstanding, with the Mawddach estuary beneath your bedroom window, and the fabulous wooded mountains can be seen on the other side of the river estuary. It is lovely to hear and see the wild ducks etc.on the river. The bedrooms are spotless and beautifully appointed, and the bathrooms are large and pristine. The entire hotel is decorated to a high standard. There are flowers overflowing every balcony and seating area, and there are so many beautiful areas in the hotel, to sit and relax. The food was served promptly, and the choice was outstanding. The breakfast was delicious, and the range of food offered was excellent. To conclude, it was a wonderful experience, and we will be returning for a longer stay next time.
Review 49:We didn't get the most warmest of welcomes on arrival - I think because the bar was busy and one of the bar staff checked us in. Our room, the Suite was in a separate building a short distance from the main hotel, this was the hotel's most expensive room and I guess we had expectations. The mini fridge in the room did not work - we were disappointed as we had bought wine to chill and non dairy milk which needed to be kept cold. We notified the fault to with the same person who checked us in hoping he could look into it to be told it was working last time they looked and nothing could be done as he was just the barman. We left it and asked someone else for some ice to take to the room. When it works again, perhaps leave it on for your guests? The TV in the bedroom was not working and the TV in the sitting room had a very poor reception. We learned the next day that this was a universal fault with the signal and no TV's worked which in view of the location we understood and accepted. However this is about managing your guests expectations and we would have hoped for a short note through the room door advising us there was no signal or to be told on arrival. We paid a lot of money for this room. Finally the balcony which we were so looking forward to sitting on watching the sun go down and drinking a chilled glass of wine needs a good brush and there was a large ashtray full of fag ends and cigar butts left there. There were also dirty ashtrays in the bushes on the ground floor. We thought one packet of biscuits with the tea things was a bit stingy (compared to other places we have stayed) and also the 2 tiny hand soaps and the shampoo in the bathroom and the one plastic mug made a lovely big bathroom feel less than luxurious. All these things took the gloss off our stay and we feel a bit disappointed.
Review 50:The hotel is in a beautiful location and we would definitely come back. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal we had was fresh and well cooked, we were really delighted with our meals. We also liked the room - we had the suite and enjoyed sitting out on the first floor balcony which overlooked the estuary, there was a large bath and a comfy bed
Review 51:It is a great pity to highlight an area of the front of house when the majority worked to make our stay enjoyable but the bar staff have a air of arrogance and are evidently not happy I find it astounding that you have to book a table then order food and drinks via the the above mentioned staff even though 4 or 5 staff served it. The bathrooms are dated and are well due a remodel.
Review 52:The location cannot be faulted and the clientele are warm and friendly the rooms are well appointed and comfortable The evening menu is extensive and are delicious and well portioned. We we spoilt by one member who could not do enough for us
Review 53:Relaxing on balcony overlooking estuary (tranquillity) Food excellent at breakfast and evening. Room clean and comfortable. En-suite up to date (hot water!!)
Review 54:stay was too short.
Review 55:we have stayed there many times, and never had cause to complain , great to wake up and see that beautiful view , rain or shine .10 /10
Review 56:Weather turned wet & cold at end of stay, no heating on so room rather chilly morning & evening. Mean with shampoo/shower gel, suggest you take your own ! Residents are put in separate dining room for evening meals, bit empty and lacking character albeit with good river views, felt we would rather be eating with the non-resident diners !
Review 57:Beautiful location overlooking tidal river and toll bridge, good walks nearby, in the shadow of the Cadair Idris mountain range, a country inn with a good atmosphere thanks to patronage by walkers & cyclists
Review 58:What is there not to like?
Review 59:Second visit to George III with friends. Like coming home. We had a Lodge Suite absolutely beautiful. Clean and cosy. Wonderful food and lovely staff, we had some lovely conversations with them - very friendly.
Review 60:Having to leave!
Review 61:We loved everything about the hotel and location. We had the Lodge Suite which was superb and had a balcony overlooking the toll bridge and the beautiful estuary. The suite was spotless, the bed extremely comfortable and cosy. The food was excellent as were the staff.
Review 62:A little noisy from the downstairs bar - but it was a weekend in August. Nothing too disturbing.
Review 63:Location is superb and the food is pretty good when they get it right and as long as you don't expect anything too fancy.
Review 64:Accomodation a little tired, although beds were very comfortable. Fixtures needed attention - eg shower rail not very secure. Food took just under an hour to arrive after ordering, but delicious when it did arrive!
Review 65:Location superb. Views of mountains across the estuary. Cattle grazing on the other side of the estuary, ducks regular visitors. Friendly atmosphere, in and around the hotel. So peaceful. Breakfasts excellent, as were evening meals. We hope to visit again - we all feel restored. Thank you.
Review 66:Shower head broken looked as if it had been broken for a while ! Pointed it out when paying bill absolutely no apology given ! Breakfast while ok was slow to arrive at table ! Barman was miserable and food slightly overpriced This place has potential to be a stunning location however get the feeling that they rather take for granted business that passes through a distinct lack of interest in customer service
Review 67:This hotel/pub has a lovely setting Bed very comfortable linen and towels very clean
Review 68:The whole place looks a little run down and the standard of cleanliness could have been better
Review 69:The location is excellent and both the evening meal and breakfast were first class
Review 70:Really beautiful, quiet location with great views. Breakfast was lovely and we had our evening meal as well in the restaurant, great food and good value. Would definitely recommend the George III and will be back for another visit soon
Review 71:Staff were unhelpful and slow to serve. It wasn't busy yet a queue for everything, to order food, drinks at the bar. This hasn't changed in the seven years we have known the place. Recruiting more staff and developing a system where orders are received in the kitchen electronically rather than someone physically having to deliver the order would, be a vast improvement. Thanks
Review 72:Location and food was excellent
Review 73:This hotel was very friendly and welcoming. Some hotels say they are pet friendly but when you arrive you feel they are not, but this hotel was exceptional. We would certainly recommend it to all
Review 74:More staff needed. We arrived middle of the week a little early for booking in but in time for a relaxed lunch. There was already a line waiting at the bar and it appeared only two people operating. Food was good but very expensive.
