Reviews for The Cables

Review 1:not en suite.

Review 2:Rodger and his wife were very friendly and helpful. The B&B was very clean and idealy located for Matlock and Matlock bath. The dressing gowns in the room was a nice touch as well as all the toiletries in the personel bathroom. Beds extremley comfortuble and rooms were clean, warm and everything you needed. Nice garden would be lovely in the summer and the hot tub area looks very welcoming and inviting. Wished we had packed our bathing costumes. Will definatley be booking again soon. Did not stay for breakfast has had to leave early so can not comment but if its as good as everything else then i imagine it will be good.

Review 3:the weather and dark nights mean I was stuck in the room for hours. The problem was Matlock more than the Cables

Review 4:the bathroom and shower were ok. There was wifi in the room which was my main reason for chosing the Cables over posher places without wifi,

Review 5:Nothing at all would have no hesitation about staying again

Review 6:The very warm welcome from Roger on arrival and the nice touch of our names on the black board at the front door. Also the extras in the room and especially after discovering we hadnt packed tooth brushes Roger gave us two.

Review 7:It is a wonderful place to stay. The owner of the place Roger is really friendly and helpful. You can ask for his advice about the route for walking and sightseeing. He even drew a map for us. Thank u Roger for your kindness and warm welcome.

Review 8:We visited the cables for a night for my boyfriends birthday. Roger was a fantastic host made sure we had everything we needed and more. It was a very comfortable room with an ensuite. The hot tub was just a bonus. Definitely recommend to anyone.

Review 9:The welcome was rather bizarre. Having arranged a time of arrival, there was no reply and mobiles weren't answered. A knock on the window eventually aroused them. Invited in we were then just left for awhile!!

Review 10:The room, cleanliness and the breakfast

Review 11:Only thatpur bathroom wasn't joined to our room. But was ok.

Review 12:The hot tub was fab, followed with a hot chocolate by a fire. Breakfast was good, fresh baked warm bread excellent.

Review 13:Room 1 was on a main road and was noisy if you had the window open.

Review 14:Welcome sign was a nice touch when we arrived with our names on it. Breakfast was excellent. Fridge in the room was useful. Bedroom clean and comfortable.

Review 15:Nothing to dislike.

Review 16:Friendly personal welcome, was celebrating a Birthday and personal touches very much appreciated. Home made alfresco pizzas to die for. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. Fantastic stay, highly recommended to friends and family.

Review 17:Only a 45 minute window for everyone to have breakfast is tight.

Review 18:Some super attention to detail here.Esp.jug of water in the room which means no dragging kettle to the bathroom.Super well stocked fridge.Breakfast one of the best I've ever had.

Review 19:The nicest B & B we have ever stayed at. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Our packed lunches prepared for our walks were amazing, the cheese in the rolls was delicious and the blueberry muffins were so tasty. The meal we had there on our last night was mouth watering. The best thing (other than the four poster bed) was the homemade marmalade! The whole breakfast was scrumptious from the maple syrup and banana porridge to the homemade yoghurt and summer fruit compote. All in all best mini break yet!

Review 20:Wifi was very poor

Review 21:Rooms were good value and breakfast was a delight. Convenient location for walk to both Matlock and Matlock bath.no car needed.refreshments in rooms were excellent.

Review 22:The bathroom, although exclusive, was separate from my room across a landing (other rooms have en-suites, so check.)

Review 23:Warm welcome from the attentive owner, who took me up to the room. Cosy, warm room with good TV. Sparkling clean bathroom. Wi-fi a bit slow, but that's probably because of local conditions rather than hotel.

Review 24:Vegetarian breakfast ordered, food came on platters to serve yourself with meat on both platters. Requested water and was told "It's over there" Behind bed hadn't been cleaned for some time

Review 25:The room was large and comfy

Review 26:The road outside is busy however the shutters on the windows block most of the noise out.

Review 27:Our room had been decorated for our anniversary and my husband's birthday. It was great to be able to take our dog. The location is excellent.Breakfast was amazingly good!

Review 28:The location was very good - right in front of High Tor and a 5 min walk from the village centre and a 10 min walk from Matlock town, as well as right next to The Heights of Abraham. The place was lovely - the owners were really nice and helpful and the breakfasts were amazing!

Review 29:it was just a little too quiet as me and my partner went for a romantic night away and we felt like we had to be quiet as sound travelled through the rooms.

Review 30:it was a quiet friendly establishment, the rooms and staff were very welcoming and it felt homely.

Review 31:A bit cold in the day time no heating on till later doors banging alot when trying to have a nap around tea time.

Review 32:The food was great. nice and clean. loved it had a fully stocked fridge .

Review 33:Nothing, I can't think of a bad thing to say about the place.

Review 34:Everything, the cottage is wonderful, the owners Roger and Maureen are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one. Anything and everything you could possibly need seems to be provided, the rooms are very clean and well presented. The food is superb and prices offered terrific value.

Review 35:Great host, fab food and bed was sooooo comfy... Fantastic place to stay all the little extra things made it special... Hot tub in the snow was awesome.

Review 36:Posts round bed- made the room seem small. The duvet- very( over) warm. A sheet plus light throw might be a comfortable option .

Review 37:The friendliness of the owners, the tasty( and creative) breakfasts, the Buck's Fizz offered on Christmas Day, the fridge in the bedroom( thoughtfully stocked) plus wine in room, plus well stocked bathroom cabinet , lovely friendly dog.

Review 38:The owners were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. Would recommend it to anyone. Excellent value for money the breakfast is a must even though their is a small charge.

Review 39:The very friendly reception and service throughout from Roger and Maureen. The excellent quality of the evening meal and the breakfasts we had. The cleanliness of the room and other areas.

Review 40:I stayed at the Cables with my daughter and mother; we took 2 rooms which were beautifully decorated, clean and warm. There was an honesty bar in the room which was very reasonable and breakfast the next day was superb. Freshly cooked with the choice of juices, cereal, fresh fruits to start. We loved the location, right next to Gulliver's Land and Heights of Abraham. Our hosts were lovely and friendly. We will definitely return again.

Review 41:The owners were very friendly, the accommodation was clean and cosy. The cooked breakfast in the morning was really really good. Walked down the street into the village for a few drinks and visited Heights Of Abraham during the day which is virtually 5 mins walk away.. Great trip

Review 42:That we had to go home the stay was that good

Review 43:We can't think of negative points of our stay at the cables the staff are friendly and can't do enough for you the location is ideal to explore the surrounding areas of Derbyshire the rooms are well equipped and very comfortable we will be returning to the Cables in the not to distant future

Review 44:We arrived earlier than expected but this didn't stop this very accommodating gentleman from welcoming us with coffee and biscuits, then when he found out it was our anniversary, we were shown to a room with balloons and scattered rose petals and a special greeting! Helpful and welcoming, we recommend this quaint and lovely place highly

Review 45:Cooler for drinks in the room was a little noisy during the night - but probably because I'm a light sleeper - don't let this put you off. As it's only holding drinks - you could probably turn this off it bothered you too much.

Review 46:The owner was courteous and welcoming. The double room with a 4 poster bed was lovely - quite calming and well equipped with everything you need. Breakfast was great - with a wide choice available - and excellent start to the day.

Review 47:Absolutely nothing!!

Review 48:On arrival at the cables I was warmly welcomed by Roger who made me a drink and chatted with me in the lounge. My initial impression was a feeling of being at home, I couldn't have been pampered anymore. The hosts were warm, friendly and made me feel like a part of the family. The Cables is the idyllic country getaway with beautiful home cooked food, stunning scenery and a intimate environment, Nothing is every too much and I cannot wait to return for my next break. Anyone wishing to take a leisurely break in Derbyshire must sample the Cables, you will go home relaxed and eager for your next visit. 5* rating

Review 49:Nothing not to like!

Review 50:Roger called to ask what time we might be checking in and explained he would be out but gave us instruction as to where to find keys etc, very trusting! Everything there you might need/have forgotten.

Review 51:Shabby exterior to the building- very off putting. Cobwebs on windowsills and in doorway and dead plants/ weeds in the garden. 1970's bathroom, tired and in need of upgrade. Cleanliness of the bedroom in general - dirt in the fridge seal, dust and crumbs on the dressing table, fluff and dust around the edge of the carpets.

Review 52:We received a warm welcome from Roger who continued to be a gracious host throughout (however Maureen completely blanked us twice when we saw her). Quality Breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Review 53:The room was very steamy because of the very warm quilt.

Review 54:The friendly welcome was very homely and we were taken straight into the guest lounge where Roger explained all about the location and eating places and breakfast times etc.

Review 55:The cables looked after us, my wife and I enjoyed our stay but the prices are not clear. Hot tub was £12 per hour as stated but once our friends and us checked out we were billed £6 per head per hour. The price for breakfast was not clear either, it cost us £5 per person on top of our daily rate. Wifi is non existent in the upper bedrooms. You have to be downstairs to receive it.

Review 56:The location is great, the breakfasts are amazing.

Review 57:Someone said the room was damp that we stayed in,all i can think is they fell in the river on the way back from the pub !

Review 58:As soon as you get out of the car you know you have made the right choice, the property and gardens are so well kept.We were welcomed by roger with a cup of tea and coffee then shown to our room number one.Spotless and even decorated for my wifes birthday.Lovely dark room at night and no traffic noise due to shutters and curtains. The evening meal was five star and well delivered. We shall be back.

Review 59:going home!

Review 60:We liked everything, the hosts Roger & Maureen have put a lot of thought & effort into their B&B,lacking nothing, from meals to supplies in the bathroom, hot tub was great & the room was very tidy & clean as was the lounge area.Nothing was too much trouble, when we were stuck in Matlock after a day out & could not find a taxi Roger came out to pick us up in his own vehicle & would not accept payment for it.Really good service and really nice owners,we travel all over the U.K. and this is the best B&B we have come across..deservidly the No1 B&B in Matlock Bath.We highly recommend it to everyone..give it a try..you won't regret it. Thanx Roger & Maureen.

Review 61:A great little B and B - lovely breakfast including homemade yoghurt, granola etc plus the option of a cooked breakfast which was freshly done to our individual liking. Rooms were very comfortable and had all the little things you often want but don't get such as a corkscrew, biscuits, shower gel for when you forget your own.....etc etc. Roger was a lovely host and recommend some great places to eat to us - we had an excellent meal on all 3 nights we stayed. Would definitely recommend and will happily book to stay again when we next visit the area.

Review 62:No issues

Review 63:The best B&B we have stopped in. From arrival to be greeted by Roger and Tea/Coffee, great breakfasts, very clean rooms with all the facilities. Great location, public transport outside if required, to departure, card facilities, only left 20 mins Roger rang to say he had overcharged by £10 and apologised.

Review 64:I am sure our experience is out of character from previous travellers, but we did not enjoy our stay at the cables, despite our hosts trying very hard to recover a first poor experience.

Review 65:Friendly management

Review 66:We stayed at The Cables whilst spending a few days in the Peak District for our wedding anniversary. It was thoroughly enjoyable and Roger went the extra mile to recognise the occasion. This fact was much appreciated by Mrs C. In addition, the breakfast was top notch.

Review 67:From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel special. Roger looked after us like we were family and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we could want. It was my girlfriend's birthday and he had decorated the room and bought champagne, flowers and chocolates at my request. They think of everything and it's the small touches that make the difference. The room had a well stocked mini bar with drinks and snacks at very reasonable prices (practically supermarket prices!). You get the impression that your enjoyment is far more important to them than trying to find ways of making money from you, which is a refreshing change! The jacuzzi was magical and they've cleverly created a little enclave so that it feels like you're in the middle of the forest when you're in there. Breakfast was so good that we were raving about it days later, anywhere that has 4 choices of sausage gets a thumbs up in my book! The food is all locally sourced and delicious. We also went with their recommendation for a restaurant for dinner and it did not disappoint. We went to the Balti and the food and service were exceptional. To sum it up, I would say that our experience of staying at the Cables was probably the best hotel/guest house experience we have had in this country. We're the kind of couple who always want to find somewhere new to explore but we're both agreed that we'll be going back to visit the Cables again because when you find service this good, it's very rare.
