Reviews for Hotel Relais Saint Jean Troyes
Review 1:the morning when we were leaving the guy at the reception tried to charge us more then we booked for, and when I asked why, the reply was superbly arrogant: why not? There was no apologies or anything, he stayed on his defensive arrogance, thus, ruining for us all the good impression that we had from our check-in evening.
Review 2:when we arrived the lady at the reception who greeted us was superb, giving us excellent and right to the point information, and upgrading us to an other room to meet our requirements stated in the booking.
Review 3:Restricted height parking meant we had to park on the street. Not ideal! Hotel staff said information was on website but it was not on booking confirmation. Beware! Reception is not particularly inviting and recent refurbishment whilst looking smart is a bit cheap and cheerful. Rooms overheated with remote control held by staff at reception???? Property especially bathrooms not suitable for the elderly or disabled.
Review 4:Location is fabulous but the main entrance is on a pedestrian only street. Decor is tasteful and rooms spacious.Wifi good enough.
Review 5:Right in the middle of town. We were able to eat in one of the many local restaurants despite arriving at 10pm. Excellent accommodation and secure parking.
Review 6:Make sure you get very good directions of where the entry to the parking garage is located!
Review 7:Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable, convenient location in town. This is a scenic town, architecturally very interesting, with many nice restaurants a short walk away. Also great for shopping nearby!
Review 8:Do not use google or Apple maps to guide you to the hotel as the road is not accessible by car. Check the hotel web site and enter via their car park address which leads by elevator into the hotel. I was a solo traveler and the room was small but ok and ckean
Review 9:A great location very clean, nice staff who speak English. Nice bars nearby as per the photo
Review 10:You're paying for the central location rather than for a spacious room. Room 306 had 'character' beams but was quite small. It was, however, quite quiet.
Review 11:We loved the central location. This characterful hotel is situated right in the heart of Troyes, an historic city. There are numerous bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. The Hotel de Ville underground car park was also very convenient and secure.
Review 12:Difficult to find parking, and parking spaces quite small.
Review 13:Chose a courtyard room. Perfect and quiet. Nice bathroom, clean and comfortable. Excellent situation- once parked Excellent breakfast.
Review 14:We stayed in a standard room - the decoration needed updating. Breakfast good quality but overpriced.
Review 15:Good location close to restaurants. Very friendly staff. Extremely comfortable bed.
Review 16:Good town centre location with secure garage parking, comfortable and spacious room, very comfortable bed, clean, friendly helpful multi- lingual staff, good continental breakfast. Would definitely use again.
Review 17:Check in and check out were done very easily but a bit more smiley staff would improve the quality of this family run hotel. Lighting was not the best you can wish for this standard of hotel . Average amenities but wifi was very weak. Breakfast was a bit disappointing with a good layout but with very basic offer and the service done by two waitresses was not friendly and lacking at least professional courtesy.
Review 18:We have stayed at this hotel on our way from Rheinland Pfalz to Sarlat-le Caneda in Dordogne. The hotel is ideally situated in the pedestrian area of Troyes, which is very nice. Easy to find by GPS and address. The hotel has a lot of parking places reserved in a park house at a very honest rate per night. From parking through a door video-controlled by the hotel reception you can take a long corridor and then a lift to reach the reception desk: very easy and very convenient if you wish to leave some luggage or other in the car for the overnight. Room was well appointed and good size (junior suite we booked) as well as bathroom. Bedding quality was good as well as bathrobes and linen. The hotel surroundings were very nice and we had an enjoyable walk in this very charming small town.
Review 19:Guy on the reception was a bit abrupt but hey we all have bad days!
Review 20:Excellent little hotel situated right in the centre of Troyes and accessible by car. Good Parking a bonus in Europe! Breakfast was good. Staff were excellent. Would recommend and return.
Review 21:Great location for exploring Troyes but takes a bit of finding - we had to resort to the satnav in the end. We had a junior suite which was a lovely room, very well appointed.
Review 22:We walked in the door and were welcomed by an adorable dog and the man behind reception, who spoke perfect English was so friendly. we were two hours early for check in but it was no problem at all.
Review 23:We just had the one night passing through Troyes but we were delighted with our choice. The reception staff are friendly and speak excellent English, our room was lovely - comfortable, clean and bright with a really comfortable bed and pillows - and the hotel's location is perfect, being right in the centre of the lovely and historic old town. Can't comment on the breakfasts because we decided to go out. Highly recommended
Review 24:First room offered close to lift, but we were upgraded to a 4th floor room with views of ancient roofs for no extra cost.
Review 25:Friendly and helpful staff. Location. Individuality of rooms
Review 26:Liked everything apart from the car park maybe customers need to be warned about maximum height of car that will fit - can't have bikes / roofbox on the car
Review 27:It's a beautiful building in a great location. Car parking. Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff, good breakfast. This was our third visit, upgraded this time to a 'Comfort' room, didn't seem much different from a 'Standard'.
Review 28:Breakfast was quite expensive so we did not have it. Odd shape of our room (stairs up immediately after door) - but it seems like a very old building so I guess this can't be avoided.
Review 29:Location is superb. Parking is excellent and decent value considering it is secure and right underneath the hotel. Staff are extremely helpful with tips for things to see and do, places to eat, shopping etc. Great checkout time of midday and ability to keep car parked for full 24 hours after checkout.
Review 30:The hotel is right in the middle of the old town, so could not be better for sightseeing. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Parking is also on site for a small charge. Highly recommended.
Review 31:Great location. Room (401) was comfortable, quiet and had great views across the skyline. Staff very helpful, even watched our bikes while we were in our room.
Review 32:parking was attached, but difficult to find. we literally found it by pure luck
Review 33:Great location, right in the middle of bars, restaurants, clubs and shopping. Room was dark with one small window and our room was upgraded...
Review 34:An ideal city centre hotel. We accepted that the room may not be as large as out-of town hotels, but it was a perfectly acceptable size. The staff were very friendly and the whole area exuded character.
Review 35:We sadly only stayed one night at this wonderful hotel but it was an absolutely perfect stop-over on the way back from Italy. Perfectly placed and reasonable parking, makes it a great base from which to explore the central part of the city. Restaurants, historical streets and places to visit (such as the stunning cathedral) are all within a very short walking distance and the kind ladies at reception are more than willing to give recommendations and a friendly guide/map. The actual hotel was also extremely comfy; managing to balance the 'old' historical building, with the 'new' such as air-conditioning, speedy wi-fi and great showers. More than anything, the service and welcoming atmosphere was so lovely and completely charmed both my husband and I, plus the added extra of breakfast in bed was a real treat! Looking forward to returning the next time we're in the region.
Review 36:The owner recommended the illustre restaurant but it was awful..theywere really rude to my vegetarian husband and unwilling to provide himwith anything beyond an omelette or a plate of veg. The former came withbrown salad and inedible chips- dreadful even by french standards...
Review 37:Central yet quiet with really helpful staff . Walked straight out intothe beautiful old town.Excellent bed and ac so slept well. Very smartand liked it a lot Price acceptable but not cheap- did not takebreakfast there
Review 38:All staff we spoke to were very helpful and friendly. Underground secure car park very useful when travelling with a car full of luggage. Beautiful decor in hotel. Central location for old town.
Review 39:Room quite small, but this is often the case with a city centre hotel.
Review 40:Good boutique hotel, fantastic location, good secure parking. Made a great overnight stop.
Review 41:Booked a family room with a cot, which we allocated on arrival (this has not always been the case in other hotels) we were offered the use of a microwave if required. Secure underground parking is a bonus.
Review 42:I have no bad word to say!
Review 43:The location is amazing, the room very nice and comfortable. It is very central and therefore as expected, not much of a gym and no pool but the hotel and staff made up for that. They were incredibly helpful and provided all we needed.
Review 44:nothing
Review 45:A really nice, small, quiet(thanks to quad glazing!),very friendly and incredibly located hotel. To have good garage parking in a city centre was wonderful. No restaurant but a good selection within 100yds
Review 46:Spa was out of service
Review 47:Great location. Loved the fact I could take my dog. Very friendly and helpful lady on reception (very heavily pregnant, sorry didn't get her name)
Review 48:Nothing. Only the interior design is not so well done, but nothing that really matters.
Review 49:We booked the suite for our family for one stop over. Best location in town with secure good parking. Comfortable bed. Nice staff. Clean. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 50:Only downside was finding the car park as it is tucked away under the hotel and there are one way streets. Could have done with more specific directions.
Review 51:Great location. Helpful staff. Room very clean. Bathroom and shower good. Would recommend it to friends and family. We stayed for two nights on our way south and it was just right.
Review 52:Air conditioning unit in our room was so noisy, we had to move rooms. Luckily another room was free and we stayed the night there.
Review 53:Great location. Staff very helpful.
Review 54:No complaints at all
Review 55:Location; spacious well-appointed room, very comfortable bed; helpful reception, easy secure parking with direct access to reception.
Review 56:Nothing, it was very good and nothing to complain about at all
Review 57:The room was lovely, the bed extremely comfortable, location was excellent and the staff very helpful - a very good place to stay, underground parking for our motorbikes
Review 58:All excellent
Review 59:The location is spectacularly good. Having parking accessible and undercover is marvellous.we will be booking to stay there next year. Because we had booked with booking.com we were given a free upgrade.
Review 60:Position of property in old town. Underground secure parking. Warm welcome from the owner. Stylish design of interior with great attention to detail.
Review 61:Excellent location with parking. Right in the town centre in the pedestrian area. Delightful helpful staff. Had a room op in the loft which was nice and quiet.
Review 62:Just Wish I could have stayed longer. Maybe the breakfast a little over priced
Review 63:Location - couldn't be better Quality - superb Staff - 10/10 Overall - possibly the best hotel I've stayed in in a French town
Review 64:The spa has to be booked in advance. Didn't realise this.
Review 65:Mr D'arcy the owner and all staff were absolutely wonderful. The hotel is right in the middle of town with the added benefit of private underground secure parking. Definately recommended.
Review 66:The welcome was friendly and efficient. The reception staff spoke good English, and made appropriate recommendations for eating out in the evening. The hotel is centrally located in the unspoilt historic town centre. The accommodation was well equipped, quiet and comfortable. Underground parking with direct access to the hotel is a definite plus.
Review 67:Great staff, really central, excellent dinner recomendation. Very comfortable. Got a free room upgrade without even asking. A real find that we will re-visit
Review 68:Great location bed very comfortable very clean beautiful buildings . One member of staff couldn't help us enough telling us where to go to eat and when we came back said they were fully booked she recommended some where else brilliant customer service
Review 69:Air con wasn't very effective so it was a bit hot
Review 70:Great location in the heart of Troyes Lovely, spacious bedroom & bathroom Friendly & helpful staff Secure parking Free wifi Overall very good value for money
Review 71:An excellent location in the centre of the old town, with several good restaurants within 5 minutes walk. The room and en suite were spacious, clean and well equipped, facing onto a pedestrian lane, so was quiet.
Review 72:Staff were friendly and helpful. breakfast was good, and although we only stayed one night because we were travelling to South,we wished we had booked two nights.Very relaxing.
Review 73:Nothing! All great.
Review 74:Everything! Easy to find private parking, location of hotel right in centre, very friendly ladies on reception, lovely clean room, very happy here and would stay again.
Review 75:Spacious, attractively designed room, individual, central location, friendly, helpful staff. Secure parking was very helpful, as we had a car containing a lot of wine.
Review 76:Directions to car park were poor but car park is brilliant once I found it. It is hard to find fault.
Review 77:Staff, location, decor, clean, tasteful decor, breakfast, room facilities. In all, very good.
Review 78:A bit costly and room a bit small, but smart and clean.
Review 79:Location and facilities good. Secure underground parking. Right in the middle of historic Troyes.
Review 80:The bathroom and toilet were a little cramped reflecting the difficulty of fitting en-suite facilities into old buildings
Review 81:The staff were welcoming and helpful and the hotel itself was charming as it should be in such an old building
Review 82:Very difficult to find. Would have helped if instructions were given when booked. Which car park to enter and then there is access directly from there. Other people staying there had exactly the same problem
Review 83:This hotel is really lovely the rooms are excellent. The staff also are really helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had breakfast in our room and the quality and quantity of the breakfast was exceptional.
Review 84:Receptionist on the phone for several minutes without even acknowledging our presence.
Review 85:Junior suite was really nice. Car parking access from the hotel lifts.
Review 86:Can't find anything negative to report
Review 87:Everything, especially the parking, accessible by lift from all floors. It's amazing to me that they achieved this, in a very old building sited in a maze of other very old buildings and narrow streets.
Review 88:No bad experiences but we were upgraded to a superior room (thank you!) and judging from this a standard room would be very small.
Review 89:Pleasant helpful receptionists who were happy to speak French slowly for our benefit! Very centrally located in a pedestrian street in the old city. Convenient underground parking connects directly to the hotel.
Review 90:Dedicated underground car park was a little difficult to find but very secure.
Review 91:The location is absolutely superb, right in the middle of the medieval quarter and with most of the good restaurants on its doorstep. Staff were friendly and informative and stayed professional at all times.
Review 92:Pity room was next to lift so some occasional whirring noises but the bed was so comfortable it was impossible to become anything less than contented and relaxed.
Review 93:Beautiful hotel exceptionally helpful staff. Next to great variety of restaurants and an easy stroll through a beautiful, clean city.
Review 94:The lifts take a little longer than one would expect but we weren't in a hurry.
Review 95:So pleased we chose this place. So accommodating even gave our dog some of his dogs food as my dog wasn't eating his own. Was a great location and Troyes is a great town. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 96:Nothing
Review 97:Excellent welcome. Parking surveillance 24/7, underground. Room upgrade for no extra cost (many thanks).fabulous location, everything on our doorstep.massage chairs!! Gorgeous bar. Troyes is a must visit.
Review 98:Nothing we didn't like.
Review 99:Friendly and welcoming staff, who were helpful and accommodating. Nice atmosphere. Good breakfast. Good location. Would definitely recommend. We had a one night stopover on the way to the Alps and the hotel was perfect for that. Good underground car park which can be a little challenging to find but not really a problem.
Review 100:Lots of thought had been given to small things, e.g. lots of light in the room. Great customer service. Staff really friendly and fluent in French, German and English. GPS the parking and not the hotel.
Review 101:They "upgraded" us to bigger rooms, and I cannot imagine what the standard rooms would have been like, because the "comfort" rooms were tiny.
Review 102:Troyes is beautiful and the staff of the hotel is really sweet
Review 103:There was a bit of a problem with the thermostat not working on the heating, so the room was very hot indeed until we turned off the heating and opened all the windows. But we coped.
Review 104:The location is superb right in the middle of the old centre of the town and very good restaurants just round the corner. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was very pleasant. The breakfast was OK.
Review 105:It is difficult to find. We went round the town twice to find the underground car park. Odd entrance from carpark and not much room in lift with cart for luggage.
Review 106:We had a modern junior suite in an old building, different, but fun for a night . (glass wall in bathroom) All white walls and furniture. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Review 107:Parking can be tricky in central Troyes, although there is a car park available with the hotel, its no good if you have a top box on.
Review 108:Very friendly and welcoming staff. Room was clean and nicely decorated and the enormous bed in our comfort room was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Lovely bar in reception where we enjoyed several drinks and chatted with staff and locals. Location perfect in the center of town where there are plenty of good restaurants and bars. We would definitely go back.
Review 109:- nothing - mm...maybe the price for the breakfast...but there are a lot of café around if you prefer to have your breakfast outside.
Review 110:- location !!!!! - design - great staff - thumb up for Martin the owner !!!
Review 111:Breakfast is a little expensive @ 15€ per person.
Review 112:Location of hotel and underground parking provided easy access to the centre of this lovely, historic town. We given a free room up-grade on arrival, to a very quiet and comfortable room.
Review 113:Ended up driving down a small pedestrian street to hotel entrance!! If driving to hotel you need to use the underground car park which is marked Hotel de Ville on 49 rue du Gal-de-Gaulle - from here you get direct underground access to the hotel.
Review 114:Lovely old renovated building in the heart of Troyes old town. Lovely suite which was great value for money with unique features and unusual bathroom area. Nice communal areas (bar, restaurant, library) and jacuzzi. Staff really pleasant and very helpful.
Review 115:The parking under the hotel is a different address to the actual hotel, so make sure you put the parking place's address into you GPS. We didn't!
Review 116:Loved the bed! And the jacuzzi! And being so close to the town square and in the middle of the Old Town.
Review 117:The hotel is perfectly located in the old town of Troyes with charming streets literally just outside the door. Following the signposting, we had no trouble whatsoever to find the very convenient underground parking with direct access to the hotel. The reception was very friendly, the room very comfortable and Wifi worked flawlessly. We were only sorry not to have more time in Troyes and would surely return to this hotel on another occasion.
Review 118:Hardest was to find the hotel, but I was warned about that. Since it is on a walking street we simply parked and walked to the hotel to check in. There was an underground car park so from then on it was easy as was in walking distance to everything.
Review 119:There was nothing not to like about the hotel in Troyes France. Staff was more than helpful and rooms were great.
Review 120:We had a standard room which was very small. The quality of the fixtures & fittings was not good
Review 121:LIked it's central position in the old part of the town
Review 122:Didn't like having to leave this wonderful hotel
Review 123:Great welcome from the hotel team. Good secure parking underground. Must try the managers champagne.
Review 124:Great location , lovely staff, very nice room and as we were waiting for some friends before going out in the evening they bought us a glass of champagne which we felt was a very nice welcome.
