Reviews for Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa

Review 1:Whilst breakfast was of a very good quality, it was very disorganised... It was such a shame really as we really did enjoy the rest of our stay there.

Review 2:We had a really delightful relaxing stay at a beautiful & comfortable hotel. The staff were pleasant & polite.

Review 3:The staff at the hotel were absolutely fantastic, my partner and I had just got engaged and they made it extra special for us and made us both extremely happy. The facilities were top notch as well.

Review 4:Nothing.it was all perfect

Review 5:Everything was perfect. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The room was out of this world and the facilities were excellent.

Review 6:The cost of dining was more than we are used to paying without the benefit of other diners comments, so we used readily available alternatives in the town instead.

Review 7:The staff were all excellent and in every way the hotel lived up to expectations. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast well cooked with friendly and attentive staff. We had not planned to use the Spa on this visit, but would consider if we return, however ...

Review 8:Some features in need of rejuvenation. Obviously a popular place and well used.

Review 9:Fantastic Yorkshire welcome. Wonderful cosy surrounding. Excellent room

Review 10:Nothing..

Review 11:Very friendly and welcoming staff, outdoor pool a huge plus. Bar lounge area warm and welcoming with log fire. Dogs welcome and are allowed in the library. Room was very comfortable, bed and duvets of top quality. Underground car park another plus.

Review 12:There was a mix up with my bill, it got sorted but irritating. I think the whole place needs a 'coat of paint', as it were.

Review 13:Well located, well run, friendly staff.

Review 14:The standard room was quite small and bathroom only had a shower with no bath.

Review 15:Outdoor pool and spa facilities. Local gallery pictures throughout the hotel.

Review 16:Only that there were children in the hot tub so we couldn't get in for some time, however the hotel rectified it straight away as they weren't meant to be in there so overall everything was fab.

Review 17:Thought the spa was fabulous along with the treatments and breakfast and the staff were very friendly too. The location was excellent and so was the hotel itself.

Review 18:Getting to our room required going through a public sitting room and bar and the entrance to the dining room and then down a hallway. Our room was right on the main street and a bit noisy at night.

Review 19:The location was very good and the staff very friendly and offered assistance in recommending a great trail hike through the moors. We were there to see the surrounding area so we didn't take advantage of the spa facilities. Parking was ample and convenient. Breakfast was very good and the dining room very bright and cheery.

Review 20:Constant noise from kitchen extractor above bedroom. Too much furniture crammed into room. Ridiculously high cost of restaurant food - and not having the option to take one course. Pedicure not good and overpriced.

Review 21:The open air pool. The eagerness of staff to please.

Review 22:The saunarium was far too hot. Steam burnt my legs - I had to leave to avoid damage

Review 23:Room, dinner and breakfast and the service. Pool and spa (except for the saunarium)

Review 24:The quality of the environment, overall. The rooms, restaurant, spa facilities and quality of service are all of a high quality and contribute to a most enjoyable stay.

Review 25:The only slight snag was that we were unable to use the facilities included in our one night stay on our second day despite staff initially saying this was okay. We spent time elsewhere in Helmsley however.

Review 26:The facilities were amazing especially the outdoor pool and hot tub!

Review 27:The rooms which were more expensive were a good size but there was damp on the shower walls and shower head. The smaller rooms appeared dated and needed some refurb to make the appear higher quality. The staff and other facilities were excellent.

Review 28:i expected little bit more quiet room and bed in room number 6 was awfull..for money we paid I'd expect good night sleep.bed was in a really bad condition.everytime you moved even slightly bed was screaming

Review 29:decent spa

Review 30:Everthing was perfect.

Review 31:Fantastic location, superb and friendly staff, nothing too hard for them to do. Just a fantastic time and the breakfast was first class. I have recommended this place to all my family and friends.

Review 32:Although our room was a great size it could have done with an update and a good dust.

Review 33:Lovely location setting and hotel. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had the evening meal and breakfast which was amazing.

Review 34:There were trivial things such as no replenishing of bath shampoos etc when staying more than one night. It was silly to have to choose only 5 out of six pieces for breakfast, very parsimonious. The restaurant was extraordinarily expensive for what it was. The quantity and quality of the food was by no means comparable to other higher quality restaurants charging those prices

Review 35:The staff were very helpful and the bedrooms were excellent

Review 36:This is the fourth visit to this Hotel, so obviously it has gone down hill in our opinion. No personal service, No welcome. The room was on the road side, hot and stuffy. The mattress on the bed was cheap and uncomfortable. The service was painfully slow, took 20 minutes to get a drink from the bar. The quality of the food in the dining room was poor for the very expensive price. could not wait to leave. will never go back.

Review 37:The pool.

Review 38:I just found the pool was too crowded and as we wasn't able to check in until 3 o'clock by the time we got sat round the pool most of the seats were taken by then and we ended up having to sit in the shade! Also there wasn't much choice for dinner.

Review 39:The rooms were beautiful. The only downside to them were we didn't have a DVD player!

Review 40:Never in the field of hotels has so much been promised and so little delivered on so many occasions. The so called "executive double" that is too small for two people to share (at least if you both expect to able to move around the room and/or bathroom simultaneously). Storage space sufficient for one meerkat (as long as they only have one item to hang-up). We had a ground floor room, without aircon, the window to the street could not be secured open, so could easily be entered by anyone passing by, unless locked shut - when the window was shut, within 10 minutes the temperature was unbearable. There was also no safe. Breakfast service was a shambles - 30 minutes to cook a minute steak and then they forgot the toast - don't know how long that took to arrive as we left an hour after sitting down. Ask for sauce, salt or pepper (which aren't on the table) and you finis your meal before they arrive. WiFi promised throughout the hotel, didn't work in the bedrooms. As a country inn charging half the price this would be a quaint place and you'd forgive the shortcomings, but at the price-point it aspires to being a proper 5* hotel & spa and it really is very poor value for money.

Review 41:The décor is wonderful, as is the spa. Staff attitude and helpfulness is great, unfortunately their ability to deliver doesn't match their enthusiasm. This is a hotel that promises so much and fails to deliver on most of it.

Review 42:Aromatherapy room smelt musty, like wet socks. Breakfast was minuscule. We would have liked to have dinner there but it was quite expensive. However in hindsight we should have had dinner as the local pubs were poor.

Review 43:Location was great, staff were marvellous, reception and wait staff are a credit to the establishment. Comfortable room and bed, very clean.

Review 44:Room 17, standard double, dreadful and the carpets in the room and corridor very worn. The price of drinks was exobirtant and the wait for food in the restaurant was dreadful although the staff were very pleasant.

Review 45:This hotel is better than some of its guests. The staff are really first-class, the room was kept spotless and we were upgraded - apparently because we stayed a number of days.

Review 46:Only one very small piece of feedback would be a greater range of food and better presentation of food at the breakfast buffet. The fresh fruit tastes slightly as if it had been cut on the same board as maybe garlic or onion. Maybe the evening meal was very slightly over priced for the complete dining experience.

Review 47:The suite was excellent, we loved the covered balcony. Staff and facilities were also excellent.

Review 48:Breakfast was busy & we had to wait but the food when ur came was delicious

Review 49:Instantly relaxing when you arrive. The tasting menu in the evening was delicious

Review 50:thought it was expensive, not great value for money. its a nice hotel but nothing more than I would expect from 5* accommodation. Bathrooms were a bit grubby, broken tiles and looked a bit worn.

Review 51:Staff were lovely!

Review 52:Traffic noise outside bedroom window and unfortunately our breakfast didn't go too well, they missed taking our order and by the time it arrived the tea and toast were 30 minutes old and we still didn't get what we ordered by which time we had given up trying and ate what they brought which included a hard boiled poached egg.

Review 53:Room and spa facilities and the staff were very friendly

Review 54:Having to pay the double-occupancy rate as a solo traveller. At least it should have been discounted by the cost of a second breakfast.

Review 55:Excellent choice at breakfast.

Review 56:Nothing!

Review 57:The little touches the hotel staff were really friendly, the bed was like a cloud, the breakfast top class. Not the cheapest place but really worth the extra money.

Review 58:Would have liked to have been able to use the hot tub until later, it closed at 7pm.

Review 59:Room was fabulous Pool open late and lovely Very calm atmosphere Lovely outdoor area

Review 60:Need to change the menu more than seasonal if you're staying for a few nights.

Review 61:Hospitality. Nothing too much of a problem. Kept racing bikes secure.

Review 62:The spa needs updating it looked dirty , it smelt foisty the relaxation area was uncomfortable , we had an evening meal which was passable and extremely overpriced. If u don't mind retiring into the lounge and sitting in other people's crumbs that have not been cleaned up that's fine.

Review 63:My husbands company

Review 64:Building work being carried out in the bar / lounge during occupancy and at meal time. Over priced restaurant.

Review 65:The location of the Hotel, central to Helmsley and within easy reach of the NR Moors

Review 66:The bed was really uncomfortable and a little disappointing as it was twin beds pushed together - actually woke up with back ache which I didn't go to sleep with! But everything else was perfect.

Review 67:A fab hotel right on the doorstep of helmsley castle. All spa facilities were fab and the food was really lovely!

Review 68:The only draw back was the lack of phone signal although as I was having a relaxing getaway it meant I really got to relax without any work distractions

Review 69:Beautiful hotel fantastic customer service and excellent facilities

Review 70:Service was impeccable and the food was Devine! Wifi was non existent in our hotel room but it made my husband switch off from work for the evening! Spa facilities lovely also!!

Review 71:Only negative was the price we paid for the rooms should have included at least one complimentary treatment from the spa as this was very pricey.

Review 72:Beautiful setting in Helmsley, very relaxing break with excellent staff and food, couldn't do enough for you.

Review 73:We were very disappointed with the spa treatments. They were expensive and very amateur. Which was a shame as we went there especially for the spa.

Review 74:The food, service was superb and the staff could never do enough. Loved the outdoor pool area especially when the sun was shining, you could be in the Med. Fabulous.

Review 75:Room was not quiet (roadside), bathroom tired, service well-intentioned but we got forgotten a couple of times. Poor value on the whole, restaurant and wine-list pricing seemed ambitious.

Review 76:Great location, friendly staff, excellent food, well informed sommelier.

Review 77:If anything at all and this is very small...A little slow at breakfast but the food was lovely

Review 78:Everything mainly lots of little touches all add up to a great experience

Review 79:The WiFi and telephone reception could be better but that was a minor point to a wonderful stay.

Review 80:All the staff and facilities were excellent we had heard of some negative reports on some reviews but we wondered what people could possibly want to better the service we received.. Our thanks to all who made our stay so memorable .

Review 81:If I had to say it would be I couldn't get the Internet to work, but a slight annoyance in a brilliant few days away.

Review 82:The whole experience, the food is excellent the staff are so friendly and helpful, I would most certainly recommend it.

Review 83:Both Tv s in our suite were faulty as were the DVD players but the staff were as helpful as they could possibly be and by the second night had replaced 1 tv/DVD and made supreme efforts to enable us to use the bedroom TV. ( It is truly knackered and definitely needs replacing).

Review 84:The fabulous staff who did everything possible to make our stay perfect. Especially the ladies at reception who left goodies for us to apologise for defunct TVs.

Review 85:My husband fell ill on first night of stay we had to leave at 1am, night porter did not know what to do,still got charged for full stay disappointed that i had to ring them,no -one phoned me,good will gesture would have been nice!!

Review 86:We asked for a double bed and we got two singles pushed together. Loose tap in the bathroom and the room in general seemed rather tied

Review 87:This is a lovely hotel in a lovely village in a beautiful part of the country

Review 88:Our first suite was disappointing but once we were moved, loved it ! Thought it would of been nicer to check in earlier than 3pm and didn't want to go so early either the following day.

Review 89:The staff were very welcoming, friendly and willing to go the extra mile for us. Felt totally relaxed within 2 hours of being there. Food in the restaurant was beautiful. Loved the spa n we both enjoyed treatments.

Review 90:Nothing.

Review 91:A great hotel. Close to centre of Helmsley with its shops and market. Lovely comfortable rooms with a touch of luxury. Food at dinner & breakfast was outstanding. Service was efficient and friendly. We have stayed before and used the spa which we enjoyed but unfortunately didn't have time this stay. Will definitely return for another visit.

Review 92:Our room was small faced the road so car noise could be heard early mornings as double glazing was old and did not fit windows properly

Review 93:The location is right in the heart of Helmsley and easy access to beautiful country walks Dinner is a truly fine dining experience with knowledgeable and helpful staff especially good about special dietary requirements. Very relaxed atmosphere and the spa staff are wonderful had best massage ever

Review 94:On our 1st eve which was the 50th birthday we had dinner, I felt it was good but edging towards too expensive to justify it.. If it had been that little bit less than trying to be over the top fine dining we would have had dinner both night.. We spoke to other people in the hot tub and all agreed... We booked room service for the following morning for breakfast brought to the room and this was totally forgotten!!! I phoned to query it and it had been a total oversight and breakfast was brought to the room and service wavered which made up in a little way for the faux pas... When we got our bill for dinner we got a completely different bill to what we had eaten! It was somewhat cheaper but we told the waitress and she quickly swapped it for the correct one...

Review 95:Liked the location, the setting of the hotel, the bar was cosy and welcoming, the reception was prompt and effecient on arrival, we arrived half hour early so we had to wait for our room (24) but that was fine. The champagne was ready on ice in the room I had ordered and the chocolates so all was good, we had dinner that eve, though I thought a little over the top towards fine dining, it was an experience. We stayed 2 nights

Review 96:1. The reception staff did not know the procedure when using booking.com. It took along time and a lot of frustration ,Plus a phone call to my bank and BOOKING.COM.BEFORE WE WERE escorted by reception staff to our room. 2. The frustration did not end there on taking a shower in the morning I had to be rescued by my friend as the water was extremely hot and I could not get out of the bath. 3. We stayed in room 7 I could not get to sleep being disturbed by people having a good time.I knocked on room 8 thinking it was them making the noise sorry occupants of room 8 . I complained to reception staff the next morning but they did not offer to move us to another room even though that night there was 15 empty rooms!.Instead we were told that there would be no one occupying room 8 so it would be quieter for for us that night. The second night of our stay again it was noisy, this time the person in room 6 began banning on the adjacent wall as the occupant thought that we in room 7 were making the noise.I went down reception and the kind night receptionist had quietened things down. The next morning as we were thankfully leaving after our 2 night break,it occurred to me that the noise both nights had come from the lounge directly under room7 as it was an old building there does not appear to any sound proofing between floors.

Review 97:1. LOCATION 2, COMFORT OF ROOM.although very small. 3. Quality of Elemis products in room 4. Free undercover parking.

Review 98:Limited menu, breakfast needs to be hotter, old world charm just needs a little updating

Review 99:Easy to find and plenty parking, friendly staff. Great place to relax and use as a base to travel the area

Review 100:Breakfast staff were extremely slow and not very welcoming.

Review 101:Lovely setting & great spa facilities. Bar & reception staff lovely and very friendly and accommodating.

Review 102:TV in room outdated. Restaurant very expensive.

Review 103:Deluxe suite was very comfortable. Spa was good although abit pricey. Hotel very nicely appointed and had a fresh contemporary feel about it.

Review 104:I have been going for a few years the changing facilities and sofas in the spa area are looking a bit tired.

Review 105:The spa facilities were lovley, the staff were welcoming and professional. Christin the waitress in the restaurant I was very impressed with her passion and keen attitude toward the job in hand.

Review 106:Whilst the dinner was very good it was expensive. An alternative dining option to the 2 rosette restaurant would prevent guests having to walk down the road to the pub to eat. We noticed several people did this!

Review 107:Position of the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable well appointed bedroom.excellent breakfast.

Review 108:Bathroom was cramped. Room was too warm. Restaurant was extremely dark. Cooked breakfast was disappointing - potato cake not only looked unappetising, it was utterly bland and had a strange texture.

Review 109:Location. Room was very nicely furnished and bed was really comfortable. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Parking good.

Review 110:The only thing i could point out here would be how early the outdoor hot tub closes...not the same time as the pool even though its next to each other! Pool 9pm and hot tub 7pm.

Review 111:Staff so helpful and friendly from arrival. Gorgeous surroundings and very clean. Beautiful food and left feeling so relaxed! Cant wait to go back!

Review 112:My only complaint was the dinner sadly. The food arrived beautifully presented but was not hot and plates were cold and for the price was not acceptable. I am afraid we ate out each evening for the rest of our stay

Review 113:The hotel was extremely comfortable and the staff very helpful especially with the valet parking. We were made most welcome and hopefully be back again very soon.

Review 114:Food is now tiny portions for the price, expect to still be hungry three courses later!!

Review 115:The rooms, public areas and spa facilities with well versed staff, polite and most helpful.

Review 116:nothing

Review 117:Superb Hotel, The spa was excellent, enjoyed the treatments & afternoon tea. Our room was great, the service from all the staff was exceptional, would definitely recommend & stay again.

Review 118:One young member of staff always had a miserable face never spoke to any guests even when we wished her good morning rooms a little warm to sleep.

Review 119:Breakfast staff were great nothing was to much trouble. Loved the pool being able to swim outside made me feel I was abroad and not just an from home. Would certainly recommend the feversham arms hotel. Will be going back next month. Thank you

Review 120:The room we had was unbelievably hot. Some air con wouldn't go amiss.

Review 121:Lovely spa facilities. Very nice breakfast. Not the sort of place I would normally stay so it was a nice treat.

Review 122:Busy road on front of hotel can be noisy Long gap before order being taken one night

Review 123:Food of a very high standard High degree of comfort in the public areas High degree of professionalism among all staff

Review 124:The fact that we found out from the hotel that we had a complementary dinner one night. This was not apparent on making the reservation through booking.com. Why is it necessary to spell "traveller" with one "l"? Neither the hotel nor ourselves are in the USA.

Review 125:Exemplary staff and service and a very well appointed room. Food was, likewise, excellent.

Review 126:Can't speak highly enough of the feversham arms and it's staff..take no notice of the negative reviewers..they just don't want the hot tub crowded! Thank you for making our stay so perfect and memorable.

Review 127:The meal we had in the hotel restaurant was amazing, so worth the money. Definitely would come back and was impressed with the choices at breakfast and the little buffet.

Review 128:Nothing

Review 129:Everything. Staff great room amazing. Food brilliant. Stayed for our 30th wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. We relaxed by the pool, in the lounges and in the room. Couldn't have wished for more.

Review 130:Poor standard of decoration in bathroom WC area in bathroom smaller than some aircraft, a slightly large individual would be unable to use it WiFi continually dropping out. Quiet room requested but given one facing main road, heavy farm and lorry transport noise from about 06:00. Not worth £180 per night

Review 131:Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 132:We booked a standard double room which was a little disappointing. It was very noisy as it was near the bar and overlooking the road. The bathroom was tiny and needed updating. We would stay again but would definitely book an exclusive double.

Review 133:The hotel was lovely in public areas, lovely atmosphere, pleasant staff and good facilities. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 134:We only stayed one night on our travels and didn't utilise the spa facilities. Staff were polite and friendly. Some shared genuine warmth and humour. Room was fine without being "wow" but we expected that as we booked the cheapest option. The pool area is relaxed and really catches the sun. The small library of books and DVDs is a nice touch. The food at dinner and breakfast was all tasty - my wife absolutely loved her dishes while I enjoyed mine without being blown away. I'd prefer heartier portions (I was glad I had eaten a delicious pork and apple pie from a place n the market square a couple of hours before dinner) but it's not that kind of restaurant and so the portion size was expected, so no real complaint there. All in all, our stay was a good experience.

Review 135:Really need to make the double beds one bed not two singles strapped together - for such a sophisticated hotel this was a 'no'!

Review 136:The hotel and its facilities and ambience - just perfect

Review 137:The stairs to rooms like No.18.

Review 138:The poolside was superb with seating both in the sun and under awning and a good bar service. The restaurant was a taste experience and the staff knowledgeable re the menu. Good parking. The staff were always helpful and pleasant, a credit to the hotel.

Review 139:Portions at dinner were tiny and left me un satisfied. Restaurant did not live up to its billing -- a place to starve in style.

Review 140:Public rooms and facilities. Also good parking
