Reviews for Pontlands Park Hotel

Review 1:Rooms way too hot had to turn off radiator and open a window even then still hot.

Review 2:Lovely clean rooms with everything we needed even an iron and a delicious breakfast.

Review 3:No air-conditioning. Uncomfortable pillows. Hard bed. Not offered to take luggage to room. Bbc Essex blasting at breakfast just not appropriate.

Review 4:Grounds. Location easy to find.

Review 5:The spa was not really a spa but a pool with sauna. It did have a lovely family atmosphere

Review 6:The room and facilities were excellent, the bed was so comfortable that we slept in and missed breakfast but the staff from the lounge bar/cafe offered to plate our breakfast up and served it to us. Very friendly and luxurious surroundings.

Review 7:It's a details but has a chef the food is a bit dated ,but on balance the quality is top

Review 8:The room was amazing, staff was brilliant and very professional, will come back again.they made our engagement weekend exceptional.

Review 9:The room was dated and toilet was dirty inside by the rim the shower and bath weren't great for a single let alone a couple not what I would call a superior double

Review 10:Service and food

Review 11:The room was clean and tidy, however for a hotel of this standard to not have water in the room and only two tea bags in total is not acceptable. The breakfast was badly organised and it was a compilation of bad organisation which I don't have time to list, but premier Inn would do it better..

Review 12:Location and Building Character.

Review 13:Nothing

Review 14:Everything was beautiful, the size of the room, superior double, was huge with a big beautiful bathroom. The bed has to be the best comfort I have ever known. Breakfast was also so very nice & tasty

Review 15:lst day breakfast 1/2 used jars of marmalade given to us/ teapots and coffee pots stained heating not good, had to ask for it to be turned on each evening lounge no atmosphere towels not changed in 3 days kettle for coffee had to be standing on floor not safe for elderly when booking in not explained our room changed from twin to double/not asked if we would like a paper each day room 72 we were woken at 6am monday with clean linen being delivered

Review 16:staff good

Review 17:Noise when bar closed at 1.30 am ; there's even a sign saying something along the lines of "please respect other guests when the bars close at 1.30 and be in your rooms by 2am"!!

Review 18:Good breakfast. Comfortable bed in large room.

Review 19:We had one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel and it just did not have that wow factor that i was expecting. There was no extra water in room. So had to use bathroom water . No gym. And room was located so far away and was not helped to room with luggage. I have no idea were swimming pools were. Only a walk one evening we located it. I believe we should be told opening and closing time and were to find facilities. The rooms windows offered no privacy, you ether closed the curtains,or anyone could see in, by adding a extra light blinds, nets gives guests privacy.

Review 20:Staff were extremely friendly and very helpful . Room was large . Food was fresh, looked local products, that gets a big approval from me.

Review 21:No bad experience but it was quite difficult to get in the bath for a shower. I am fit and active but not very tall!

Review 22:The size of the room and the bathroom. It was nice and quiet and very clean.

Review 23:Would have preferred a freshly cooked breakfast, rather than buffet, kept warm food. Bed was great to look at- four poster with elegant furnishings, but mattress was a bit firm for me.

Review 24:The Spa!!! Our bedroom was very luxurious!! Elegant. Very well maintained. Lovely staff. Very helpful. Very clean. Good lounge menu.

Review 25:I think on a previous stay breakfast was served to the table . On this occasion all hot food placed under heated tureens . The quality not so good and disappointing .

Review 26:Location and facilities .

Review 27:A little expensive for what it is, only buffet breakfast help yourself. Was not told what time breakfast was.

Review 28:Very nice appearance of whole hotel. Nice rooms with good quality towels and complimentary toiletries

Review 29:A few little changes could go a long way. On arrival, it didn't feel welcoming, I.e the gentleman on reception didn't have the most customer centric attitude. No conditioner in the bathroom No additional towels for hair No where to leave luggage if arrive before check in which is 3pm No overview of the hotel / facilities etc on arrival. I.e we had to read book which was in a drawer in the room rather than left out to determine time of breakfast. No fridge despite the book referring to complementary water - there was none. It's quite a step into the bath. Now we're young and fit so it wasn't an issue, but I can imagine for someone with perhaps less mobility, it could be a challenge or lead to injury. Albeit the bathroom was very nice.

Review 30:The room was spacious and grounds very attractive. The bed was comfortable and room in overall good decorative order.

Review 31:Carpets could perhaps do with a clean ( especially in the bedroom) but this did not detract from all of the good points of the hotel.

Review 32:The staff were very friendly. We had organised in advance a meal for 12 people and were allocated a private dining room. Excellent service. Lovely old countru house with beautiful gardens

Review 33:breakfast not up to standard , eggs overdone and dry, poor quality sausages High tea good quality cakes Sandwiches dry

Review 34:lovely clean bathroom location. ambience big spacious room

Review 35:Couldn't get wifi certain parts of the hotel. And we liked our breakfast well done. Overall experience lovely will be complete by back

Review 36:pool jacuzzi. Room, friendly staff

Review 37:Very helpful staff, clean and tidy. We were leaving early, before breakfast was due to be served, the staff still managed to offer the full breakfast and with excellent service!

Review 38:Our room was on the ground floor. There was a wedding on two of the three nights of our stay, the wedding guests were our neighbours and were very very noisy. We mad a complaint to reception. We basically had three nights with very little sleep. Disappointing from that respect.

Review 39:The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent.

Review 40:We had a quiet room. However, outside the hotels control, there were noisy guests nearby - talking in corridor from 10.15 pm for an hour then talking in their room and playing music till 1.30 am

Review 41:Great garden setting. Excellent decor in bedroom and public areas. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 42:We booked the 4 poster bed room for our wedding night. It was a beautifully appointed room and spacious. Breakfast was very good and the grounds a nice.

Review 43:Bedroom faced wedding tent and although we were warned about a wedding going on for one evening, loud noise lasted much longer than we were told it would.

Review 44:Excellent food and service - better than most British hotels we've stayed in.

Review 45:The rates of the ro were all over the place. We were attending a wedding some of the guests we were with paid £199 for a room. Crazy money.

Review 46:The breakfast was really good.

Review 47:Buffet only breakfast slight disappointment after such an excellent meal the night before.

Review 48:Efficient, friendly staff. Comfortable, well-appointed accommodation with lovely grounds. Excellent evening meal.

Review 49:Room 75 The twin beds were comfortable, however, they were very small. If you are over 9 stone either sleep on the floor or ask for a normal bed.Neither of us had a good nights sleep over two nights

Review 50:The helpfulness of the staff and the lovely building. Very convenient location in a rural setting but very easy access to main roads and to Chelmsford.

Review 51:Breakfast service a bit slow on Monday morning.

Review 52:This hotel is set on the edge of the village overlooking countryside so was very peaceful. The staff were very friendly and we were considerately warned that there was a wedding reception on the Saturday, though as we were given a room on the opposite side, there was no noise at all. Comfortable, well-appointed room. We hope to be back.

Review 53:The breakfast facilities didn't keep the hot food hot, otherwise no complaints.

Review 54:The position and comfort of the hotel. The cleanliness and service. The bedroom was large and bathroom facilities good.

Review 55:Some staff weren't very friendly on reception which was shame, bed mattress was lumpy and for size of room could been bigger. Would defiantly go for bigger bed size. The style of buffet breakfast meant food was warm not hot but it was tasty still. Would be good if restaurent opened at 5pm instead of six as really would like to eat their on the Friday evening before going out.c

Review 56:Very quiet. Lovely country surrounding. Even tho wedding on, in our room was lovely and quiet. Room was very large and well decorated. Craig let us have late check out on Sunday. Spa facilities are literally next door and were very relaxing.

Review 57:We chose this hotel because of the location and based upon the other good reviews. We wasn't disappointed. Had a lovely relaxing overnight stay. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Food was good and staff very friendly and attentive.

Review 58:Staff were very good and nothing was too much trouble. We had problems with our car but even though they had a wedding on they helped us sort it and got us back on the road.

Review 59:The breakfast wasn't up to standard. We came down at 8.05 and breakfast started at 8 but the buffet was already cold and the eggs congealed as though that had been sat there far longer. This really let the rest of the hotel down.

Review 60:The room was clean and spacious. Most of the staff were friendly but the gentleman seemed a bit put out when he had to return to bring drinks that he forget when we ordered room service. The rest of the staff however were friendly and welcoming.

Review 61:Upon arrival (we are a group of 8 girls heading out for a night out in Chelmsford for one of our birthdays. We had booked two rooms (4 in each) and the manager moved us to interconnecting rooms so we could all be together! Was a great stay.

Review 62:We ordered sandwiches to be brought up to our room , they were just average I'm afraid, although the chunky chips made up for them

Review 63:We booked a superior double for one night to escape the neighbour from hell! I emailed in advance to ask for a quiet room, we were not disappointed. The room was spacious , warm and had a luxurious feel. Very comfortable bed. The bathroom looked brand new and had the best shower ever and large bath. Soon forgot all about the problems at home . Room service provided . Early night .. Slept like a baby.. Didn't want to leave !

Review 64:As soon as they received out booking they called us to say there was a Christmas party the night we were staying and to agree to change our room so that we would not be affected by noise...and we were not. When we arrived the staff were some of the most helpful we had encountered. Very comfortable beds

Review 65:Loved the room, we stayed in one of the four poster bed rooms and it was gorgeous and clean. The food was delicious, there was lots of choice and the staff that served us were polite, friendly and always at hand if needed but not smothering. Really enjoyed our stay.

Review 66:Being in a room over the central dining rooms means the sound travels when the staff are setting up early in the morning, but a minor quibble with an otherwise perfect stay.

Review 67:A super short break at this lovely, friendly hotel. Superb full English breakfast served next to a log fire on a frosty morning. Large comfy and spotless room.

Review 68:Room was a bit cold and happened to have forgotten to pack toothbrushes. Asked at the reception as the room did not have a lot of cosmetics in the bathroom, even though they did check for me none were found! Could be a good idea to add toothbrushes and mini toothpaste to little selection of cosmetics in bathroom.

Review 69:Great location, very comfortable room and delicious breakfast.

Review 70:Wifi was very weak.

Review 71:Thoroughly impressed at the clean, comfortable, well presented with polite staff. A welcome break from the Christmas Rush for me and my six year old daughter. Thank you.

Review 72:I couldn't find a thermostat and felt a little too warm in the night. Not a big deal though as the room was comfortable.

Review 73:Room was clean, quiet and spacious. The building has lots of charming features including bedrooms that lock with a proper key! Receptionist really helpful in arranging my taxis for me. Breakfast was good and all very relaxing.

Review 74:I forgot my cufflinks for a wedding of which they obliged. could not get a taxi at midnight from a venue called hotel and they got me one immediately . unbelievable. Staff all round superb. Will be going back

Review 75:There was no-one at reception to retrieve our key at 11pm (but there were several parties going on in the hotel). A new toilet bowl is needed in room 74!

Review 76:We just needed a bed for the night but when we realised how nice the hotel was, we asked if there was space for us for afternoon tea; this was immediately found, complete with delicious gluten-free options for me. All the staff were professional and friendly. We were sad not to be staying longer to try out the restaurant and spa which both looked good. We hope to stay again soon.

Review 77:I found nothing to dislike in my short overnight stay.

Review 78:The overall quality & charm of the buildings steeped in history. Very comfortable throughout & would definitely recommend to friends. Would like to return soon for a longer stay giving me more time to explore the beautiful grounds & other facilities.

Review 79:Minor things - lack of good light over mirror in main bedroom and lack of soap holder in bath and shower. Food in restaurant somewhat lacking in comparison with the excellent Lounge Bar Menus and Breakfasts, but very acceptable.

Review 80:Large size of executive room, comfortable beds and amenities. Cheerful and friendly staff.

Review 81:During our visit there was no internet access

Review 82:We had a great sized room with very comfortable bed. Decent sized wordrobe with light inside, great idea.

Review 83:My mattress was too soft for me, but that it a personal choice.

Review 84:The staff were very helpful and friendly, made us feel very welcome. The hotel had a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The grounds were very beautiful to walk around. The contemporary feel to the decor in the room and bathroom made it feel very luxurious and relaxing. The owners have worked very hard to give a very luxurious refurbishment to a beautiful building. Would very highly recommend a stay here.

Review 85:- very old fashioned decor. - lack of cleanliness in rooms and the hotel in general. - very poor nights sleep due to loud music until late at night. - Too expensive for the quality of the stay.

Review 86:- Good location, set in nice grounds.

Review 87:The manager constantly wants to be involved with each group, emparting his words of "wisdom" most of the time without listening. Sunday lunch: Part of the dining room is situated across the hall from the buffet so you have to traipse back and forward with your plates. This is sometimes a bit uncomfortable as you are sometimes having to give way to people checking in or kids running around the lobby. The buffet doesn't have a great deal of flavour. I would guess the ingredients haven't come from good local suppliers.

Review 88:The rooms are well appointed and clean. The overall design and feel to the hotel is modern and feels of a good quality. Most of the staff are young enthusiastic and happy to help.

Review 89:The room was small and cluttered with an ill-fitting bathroom door that offered limited privacy. There was insufficient clothes hanging space because so much of the wardrobe was taken up by the ironing board and iron. Dinner was below average, and some of the bar staff need further training.

Review 90:The location is rural and peaceful, but close to Chelmsford. The cooked breakfast was above average.

Review 91:Small hotel great for a wedding or similar. Not at all pretentious and staff key asset especially the Manager. Bar staff also very good keeping right balance between managing drunken guests and looking after customers. Especially loved the heated outdoor pool for my morning swim in the rain!

Review 92:Shower in the bathroom I found confusing and when not wearing glasses to read instructions very dangerous as water was scalding hot.

Review 93:The room was very well equipped and the beds comfortable. Staff were very helpful and really tried to please. We ate breakfast which was a little burnt, but not to the extent it could not be eaten, on the whole very nice.

Review 94:N/A!!

Review 95:All staff help you feel totally relaxed. They can't do enough for you. The pool and facilities outside are lovely.Rooms are immaculate and have a homely feel. The food is great too! The whole experience is superb. I would love to go every weekend!

Review 96:We stayed on our wedding night! Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms with lots of space. Nice breakfast and staff all very friendly!

Review 97:pets had to stay in car

Review 98:Couldn't get an Irish coffee after 11pm, all our lights went out in our room whilst getting ready for an engagement party.

Review 99:Nice staff

Review 100:Outstanding food and facilities

Review 101:Very helpful staff and and great location as it was very quiet considering how close it is to large Essex towns.

Review 102:Lovely large room, tastefully decorated. Pool and spa nice and lounge bar very nice also. Food excellent.

Review 104:Nothing we didn't like!

Review 108:Didn't like music at breakfast.

Review 109:Lovely smiles from the staff.

Review 110:Staff very friendly. Restaurant very good. Hotel was spotlessly clean

Review 111:Lovely decor

Review 112:the entrance is hard to find if you arrive late (I arrived at gone 10pm) and it isn't signposted well

Review 113:The breakfast service was poor Ran out of eggs and beans Long wait for replenishment

Review 114:The parkland

Review 115:Norhing

Review 118:Lovely big room,great breakfast

Review 119:the hotel was perfect, all the facilities I needed. Room was comfortable and well equipped, breakfast was superb, staff very very pleasant

Review 120:Too much choice on dinner menu. Prefer a breakfast cooked to order

Review 121:Loved the pool and facilities in the Spa.

Review 122:Restaurant, the menu, wine list and food poor.

Review 123:The room was large, clean, comfortable which we had no complaints.
