Reviews for The New York Inn
Review 1:The noise from the bar could be heard throughout the hotel including the bedrooms. Thought the ceiling was coming in. Had to leave and stay elsewhere. It turns out it is in the small print about the noise. Unless you want to party to small hours don't stay here. Mangers attitude was unhelpful to say the least. Won't be back
Review 2:Friendly reception staff.
Review 3:lovely quiet rooms and fabulous location with sea views from the restaurant and short walk to the front. Loved the fire in the bar which was lovely to sit beside and enjoy a drink after a walk in the sea air.
Review 4:Room was alittle tired, carpet especially. Was also very cold in the bathroom
Review 5:The staff were excellant. The food (we had dinner and breakfast) was lovely and brilliant value for money. Location was good. Big open fire and lovely bar area
Review 6:Friendly approachable staff, wonderful sea views and a really well appointed comfortable room. Great food in front of a lovely roaring fire when the wind was blowing.
Review 7:The food left a lot to be open minded about. The bruschetta starter was basically bread an salsa. As a chef the bruschetta I was given was a poor attempt at a starter
Review 8:Room was amazing.
Review 9:we stayed in room number 2 with a sea view terrific view biggest bed i have been in and really comfortable room was spotless could not ask for any more the staff where all a credit to the new york especially nicola on reception lovely girl very welcoming and could not do enough for us cant wait to go back.
Review 10:I booked through booking .com and got confirmation from them but when I arrived on the date there was no reservation for us although the staff had tried to get InTouch with me I never heard anything from booking.com, however we managed to get to stay the next night.
Review 11:Homely friendly atmosphere very relaxing
Review 12:No particular grumbles. Possibly residents car park a bit tight. I cannot remember if got CCTV.
Review 13:Had very good deal regarding cost. Receptionists friendly and informative. Room very adequate and clean. Breakfast - good variety and nicely cooked egg, etc. Did not eat evening meal tin restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful. All-in-all very good for an Inn and nice view of sea. Lift to bedrooms, and pub/restaurant - good for oldies like myself etc.
Review 14:It was our first time staying there and we were very impressed. We have booked to go back in January. The food in the Restaurant was delicious and very good value
Review 15:Helpful and friendly staff, an excellent place to stay. Great location with fabulous sea views. Good food and good value for money. We also went to 55* North in Portrush which is owned by the same people. They also served great food and provided good service.
Review 16:Shower not great in the disability room. Noise from generator kept me awake! My Dad in a different room heard it too. Hotel didnt seemed too bothered when I mentioned it.
Review 17:The rooms were lovely and spacious
Review 18:Great value for money and very friendly helpful staff. we had to leave for a sporting event at 6am and the night porter made us breakfast - he was an excellent ambassador for the New York Inn
Review 19:The breakfast was from 8am but when I went down at 8.05 the chef was only arriving and breakfast was not set up. I didn't get my breakfast until 9 but didn't have time to eat it. The waitress was very apologetic but the reason was the printer in the kitchen had not been switched on!
Review 20:Very friendly staff, great location and view.
Review 21:Evening entertainment left a bit to be desired. Lucily the rugby world cup was on the telephone.
Review 22:Pleasantly surprised at the transformation since we were last there. Most of the staff were excellent and polite. Must give a mention to the young lady who served us breakfast she was very pleasant and efficient
Review 23:The overall stay was excellent the staff was great and very helpful the food was lovely and very good value this has been our second stay at the York and will definitely be back
Review 24:Wifi did not work very well, they said it would be fixed soon (so might be better when you go)
Review 25:Staff very friendly. Lovely views out to sea. Tasty breakfast.
Review 26:staff very friendly and helpful, great location for visiting all National Trust locations in the area, ie, Dark Hedges, Giants Causeway,Rope Bridge, Dunluce, etc and Bushmills.
Review 27:Every single staff member was outstanding. We had a wonderful night (it seemed longer_ maybe Sam's brilliant cocktails? )Totally picked at random. Thanks to everyone.
Review 28:Beds uncomfortable. Shower settings on wall outside of shower. Breakfast below average - could have made better myself. Not worth the money and we will not return.
Review 29:The location
Review 30:Paid deposit for King Room with sea views , on arrival found our roomhad been given to someone else . We were given the only room left , astandard room No 6 with car park views at rear . Spent 6 hours oftorture in this room before packing for home at 5:00 am due tohorrendous noise from 4 fan units outside the window. Similar problemreported by others . Best avoid any rear rooms . We were not charged thecost of dinner for our terrible experience but our deposit was notrefunded !! Best bet stay at the Anchorage , even with the entertainmentits a lot quieter.
Review 31:Location
Review 32:We did not have a sea view which was disappointing. Our window opened up above an air conditioning unit which went on and off throughout the night and disturbed our sleep. We complained about this but nothing was done. We slept the second night with the window shut but it was too hot and there was no air conditioning
Review 33:The location was great, right opposite the sea
Review 34:When the bar let out below the noise one night was loud. The noise only lasted 5 minutes
Review 35:The staff were exceptional helpful and nice. The location was was across from the water - our view was partial and you really could see a little of the water. It was walking distance to downtown portstewart.
Review 36:None at all
Review 37:The hotel is excellent, staff are very friendly and the location is perfect. A short walk away from the town centre and a good location to travel to other tourist attractions.
Review 38:Staff were extremely helpful in particular the hotel receptionist Nicola who was very welcoming and helpful to whatever we needed or asked! Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone as it was incredibly clean and great value for money! Will most certainly be staying again in the near future!
Review 39:Dirty bathroom, previous guests hairs on the tiles prove it wasn't cleaned and silicone covered in grime. Room was not ready until 330pm. No complimentary beverage offered while we waited. It's not as if they have hundreds of rooms to prepare.
Review 40:Receptionists were friendly
Review 41:No complaints
Review 42:This is our second stay at the hotel and I couldn't speak highly enough off the staff very friendly and nothing too much bother for them! Stayed in room 2 with a balcony and amazing views!!
Review 43:Lovely people from Bar staff to Reception to Maids. Excellent location, very modern & well equipped rooms. Great shower & very comfortable beds. Great view from sea view room.
Review 44:The staff did not seem to have been given enough training in the bar/restaurant. We waited 2 hours on our starter in the restaurant. One of the receptionists especially could do with some training on how to speak to guests.
Review 45:The location. We had an excellent sea view room with balcony.
Review 46:Food in the bar was a bit disappointing for our evening meal.
Review 47:Lovely location, room overlooking the sea front was very spacious and would definitely stay again.
Review 48:The rooms were very spacious, great room for belongings and added details like radio/speakers in the room and bathroom and heated mirrors were really lovely. The staff were excellent and really friendly
Review 49:Our server in restaurant staff did not explain menu to us but thankfully a very helpful member of staff came and explained everything to us. Lovely girl.
Review 50:The view was great.
Review 51:Their for 4days breakfast ok on 1st morning but went downhill over the next 3days . Waited 1hr for breakfast on our last day,, pity.
Review 52:Staff on reception and bar very helpful and friendly. Hotel really up to date and nice, Nicola on reception was more than helpful nice girl.
Review 53:12pm checkout would be good :)
Review 54:This is the second time we have stayed.. Lovely staff- the receptionist on check-out yday was excellent, great breakfast with a view over the seafront, our room (4) was so comfortable, huge bed and great shower.
Review 55:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Special mention must go to Nicola for making our stay as hassle free as possible and also being great with our baby daughter. Special, special mention to Darren for driving me to the local accident and emergency at 4.00am. (Nothing to do with the hotel I might add). Thanks again. Also, really nice modern hotel.
Review 56:The only downside was having to access the lift area through the public bar as this was often crowded and we had to edge our way round a rather large pool table between shots
Review 57:We loved the size and quality of the fittings in our room, very warm and comfortable place to stay especially as we stayed in December. Breakfast was excellent with an a good selection of things on offer. What was especially nice was the fact that the cooked breakfast was cooked to order. The view from the large airy dining room onto the sea front was especially nice. The staff were very efficient and pleasant.
Review 58:The hotels location is excellent, and we love it in the summer and winter. Being right on the water is so relaxing. The rooms are so luxurious you feel like your being treated like a king and queen. The restaurant is amazing, huge, delicious portions at an extremely reasonable price. We have stayed three times now, and are currently trying to organise our next stay soon.
Review 59:The bed wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped, however this may have been due to personal preference.
Review 60:I loved the view from the half suite we stayed in, the room was brilliant, the bathroom was excellent, there was everything we could have wanted. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in the area and I plan to return.
Review 61:The bath towels are very tiny! The WiFi connection was non existent.
Review 62:The hotel is lovely and the staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms are modern with great decor and the breakfast is also great. Love how close the hotel is to the sea.
Review 63:Wi-Fi signal strength reasonably good but could be weak in certain parts of the hotel. However this did not spoil our enjoyment in any way.
Review 64:I have nothing at all to complain. The staff are absolutely wonderful and friendly and very helpful. The comfort and facilities are excellent and the dining menu is comprehensive and extremely good value. All in all once again we had a wonderful experience (fourth time this year).
Review 65:There was a bit of a cooking smell in the hallways coming from the kitchen. Whilst this stirred the appetite, perhaps a couple of feet on the kitchen exhaust outlet chimney would help.
Review 66:The views overlooking the sea were so romantic, day or night. The Housekeepers saw the Anniversary Cards that the family had sent and scattered red petals across the bed. Such a lovely gesture. All the staff were so welcoming and unobtrusive. The Balcony outside the suite was also a stunning viewpoint. Never worry that the hotel is beside a busy road, there was no noise at all after the windows were closed. The cosy and warm room temperature was enhances by its soft-glow lights. Overall , a lovely short break, we'll be back, if only to work our way thru the delicious menu.
Review 67:Couldn't get wi fi in bedroom when I asked for help the guy told me he was a receptionist not an IT specialist!!! Disappointing to see so many negative notices. Bed very low
Review 68:Room comfortable. Bathroom actually a wetroom excellent. Food in restuarant excellent. Most of staff friendly and welcoming. Views of ocean impressive.
Review 69:Nothing to dislike.
Review 70:Very good value for money. Lovely Location. Comfy bed & pillows. Spacious room with a fridge & tea/coffee making facilities. Good parking facilities. Breakfast & evening meal superb & served by very friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Review 71:from start to finish this place has the lot friendly staff good food clean and comfortable rooms nice bar also nice area upstairs to chill out and read a paper or just to sit and relax.
Review 72:Radiator in room didn't work no heat in morning there was an electric heater which we had to get out of bed to put on and it was noisy was not impressed. Told staff a number of times but they made out like we were wrong cause computer said heat was on. Breakfast was poor for a 4 star scrambled egg done in micro was like rubber we both couldn't eat. Fried egg more like hard boiled. Needless to say didn't eat in hotel as breakfast put us of will not be back
Review 73:Rooms very good and beds comfortable
Review 74:On arrival had to ask for heat to be turned on as room was freezing. Controlled at reception and lasted only a short time. Had to resort to blow heater we found in the corner. Not what we expected from 4 stars @ £89
Review 75:Great location with cosy bar and a good breakfast
Review 76:The gale force winds. Obviously no fault of the hotel, which were spectacular but scary.
Review 77:Location, the suite was amazing. Helpfulness of staff. The fantastic gluten free choice of the cooked breakfast and cereals. So far unbeaten anywhere I have been.
Review 78:Not applicable
Review 79:Staff were very friendly and helpful; Rooms were spacious and welcoming; Food was excellent; Bar was full of good craic and staff obliged us that we could watch the football. Overall excellent and we will be back.
Review 80:Great view of the sea from our room and very easy walking distance to the promenade. Our dinner in the dining room was delicious and all the staff were first rate, thank you.
Review 81:No internet connection even though I was given wifi password was told later you can't get it in the rooms . Light in bedroom was like a lighthouse flashing, hair dryer not working breakfast not great, expected more for £115 per night
Review 82:Location is fantastic views from the front off the hotel amazing
Review 83:Being over the bar and hearing music and screaming until two in the morning.
Review 84:Room was attractive. Pillows were too hard and big. Location over bar was not enjoyed.
Review 85:The York is a lovely comfortable hotel in a beautiful location by the sea. Dont be decieved by the outside of the hotel as the interior is very modern and the rooms are top class. We sat outside on the balcony of the bar and enjoyed some drinks and excellent food on a beautiful autumn evening. I travel for my work and stay in many hotels some I would not go back to but the York is on my short list of places to return to.
Review 86:Carpets appeared to be dirty and in need of cleaning/replacement. Periodic ice or a/c compressor noise outside window was distracting.
Review 87:Staff was helpful and courteous. Restaurant and bar areas were clean and inviting. Location was easily accessible and convenient to area sights and other restaurants. Overall, a very good stay.
Review 88:Breakfast as always is great in this hotel, and if you're lucky enough to get a table by the window the view of the sea across the road is wonderful first thing in the morning
Review 89:I thought the carparks were small, but I was able to drive into a parking space every time I needed one.
Review 90:I liked everthing about the hotel. We will certainly be back. Location is perfect with excellent views.
Review 91:The appearance at the front of the hotel with meal deals etc did not reflect the high standard of the hotel.
Review 92:Fantastic friendly service and the food was great. Rooms were lovely, spacious and very well presented.
Review 93:Disabled access at rear of building very unsatisfactory badly lit at night and access through the rear entrance door very difficult to get wheelchair through door because it had to be held open by myself as well as trying to lift wheelchair and wheelchair occupant over the door frame this would have been more accessible had there been an automatic door and flat ramp at door entrance
Review 94:Spacious bedroom front room with balcony views amazing very clean excellent breakfast would stay here again if disabled access at rear of building improved would recommend to non disabled persons
Review 95:We wanted to stay here for a while, but we were disappointed. We booked standard King on £79 deal, but couldn't relax in the room until 9 pm. The kitchen air con runs right outside the window of room 6 and isn't turned off until 9 pm. The lift is outside and you can here it, and the people talking while waiting for it as if there're in the room with you. The breakfast was very limited for a supposed 4 star hotel. I would have been very annoyed if I had paid the full £115 for this room. I would never stay in this room or the one below it again. I would try one of the rooms at the front of the hotel. I would recommend it, but only if the other rooms were quiet and not at £115+ a night.
Review 96:Location is excellent. The lunch and dinner menu's are very good.
Review 97:The food in the restaurant is beautiful , the manager took our order but forgot to put it in to the kitchen, so after waiting 45 minutes, we had a wonderful meal with free cocktails as an apology that pleased us & the food was defo worth the wait :-) fish cakes were amazing & steak was cooked to perfection , also our room was lovely & spotless.
Review 98:Nothing. We will there for a repeat stay as soon as we can.
Review 99:We loved our half suite with such a huge balcony and enjoyed having our morning coffee outside our room on the balcony. The staff were both very friendly and helpful. Lovely waitress serving our excellent breakfast.
