Reviews for Le Kern

Review 1:Near the main lifts and bus stops. Friendly staff. We were allowed to keep a room on the last afternoon to change after skiing, this is quite rare in skiing hotels.

Review 2:Shower controls in bad position. I accidently bumped them most days which changed the temperature and pressure.

Review 3:Friendly, helpful staff - particularly Pascale, who was always willing to give us advice on anything from restaurants to what villages to visit on our way back to Paris. Comfy room with big wardrobe storage. Nice breakfast. Great location - easy 150m walk to ski lifts, just off the Main Street, so very close to lots of restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy. Also close to bus terminal. Good ski storage and drying room.

Review 4:Perfect location - ski rental shop opposite, main Val d'Isere lifts 5 minute walk away, right beside the main underground central parking (expensive but you pay for the convenience - 42euro for 2 days, no booking required). Classic traditional style to hotel. Pleasant tasteful rustic decorations. Great breakfast with lovely big jug of coffee. Superb value. Friendly staff. Room was ready early allowing us to check in and hit the slopes.

Review 5:No modern boots racks for drying, just shelves...but hardly a "not like"!

Review 6:Fabulous central location but tucked away down a little side street so sheltered from noise. Ski Pass office and main resort ski lifts only a 10mins stagger away in your ski gear. Very friendly staff and great breakfast. While place was warm and welcoming, really sweet! Amazing hot shower!

Review 7:Nothing.

Review 8:The location is very central to lifts and restaurants. The ambiance of the hotel is typical for a small french hotel, which for me is delightful rather than large purpose built ones. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 9:The only thing that would have improved the hotel would be a kettle in the room to make tea/coffee.

Review 10:The location was excellent, room and bathroom were clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 11:The Internet wasn't working in the room. V bad signal.. Only in the reception u have it. Parking it's very expensive in the area!

Review 12:Great location. Hotel staff are very helpful ! Hotel it's v clean!

Review 13:The WiFi was unreliable dropped out quite a bit.

Review 14:Location was perfect. The breakfast was great and the staff really helpful. The room was quite small but all that we needed anyway as the bed was super comfortable and we were out skiing most of the time.

Review 15:The staff were so helpful and friendly, it had the feel of a family run hotel. Breakfast is served buffet style in a cozy dinning room with plenty of service offering 'top ups' We were visiting our daughter who is working in the town and she was offered a free breakfast when she joined us on her day off.

Review 16:The bed was a little hard for my liking but that's very subjective.

Review 17:Lovely staff, excellent location. Basic facilities but adequate. If a lift-friendly location and a clean room to sleep in is all you really need ...and you like to eat out - this is a great little hotel.

Review 18:Staff were very friendly, they went the extra mile & then some. The breakfast was excellent & we enjoyed chilling in the cozy lounge after a day on the slopes.

Review 19:A little bit dated and tired but still great value.

Review 20:The staff make this hotel very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. This is my second stay here and would come back again.

Review 21:Very helpful staff. Everyone speaks good English. Great location, easy walking distance to the main Val d'Isere lists. The hotel fronts on a small side street (some would even call it an alley) so you do not get the noise of late-night revelers on the main street. A great value.

Review 22:After checkout, you are offered a shower on the way out. This "shower" was so small (the word tiny does NOT do it justice) that using it was like torture. AT THE VERY LEAST, it would be inexpensive to put a bunch of hooks on the wall (there was no place to put ANYTHING in a space barely bigger than your own body). For me this was the only serious irritation during my stay.

Review 23:the staff are friendly helpful and warm-eager to help if possible. The location: I timed my walk to the lifts: four minutes. The breakfast is simple but good. If you are a light sleeper there will be street noise- but that is the nature of Val and not a ding on this hotel, if staying in Val I would definitely go back

Review 24:Val d'Isère is expensive in general but, in fairness, this hotel's rates are comparable to other hotels of its calibre. I was probably lucky to get a room at all!

Review 25:The staff are excellent and very friendly, speaking good English. The hotel is very conveniently located for the pistes a few minutes away on one side, and on the other the town centre and both local and regional transport connections. Nevertheless, it is very peaceful. Plenty for breakfast.

Review 26:Noisy revellers in early hours singing on street. No evening meal option.

Review 27:Central Location is excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Limitless hot water and clean rooms.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Nice and cosy

Review 30:Being on the top floor up three flight of stairs was a challenge!

Review 31:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, outstanding location and good value.

Review 32:Lack of parking

Review 33:Friendly and helpful staff

Review 34:We felt very confortable at Le Kern, near to everywhere and very helpfull staff. Thanks Pascale for your great attention.

Review 35:Very friendly hotel with excellent location.

Review 36:Location amazing for the price

Review 37:Cannot think of anything!

Review 38:Location

Review 39:the staff

Review 40:Good breakfast great location

Review 41:Twin beds & Rather surly greeting in the morning when we arrived

Review 42:Great location, good value, nice staff... mostly

Review 43:Central location Easy to access all facilities Free wifi Ski slope access is not even a short walk away

Review 44:Staff (Pascale) great - very helpful! Great value and location.

Review 45:The hotel seems to be dimensioned for short persons. I would not recommend this hotel if you are 180 cm or taller.

Review 46:Great location, two minutes walk to the slopes and close to restaurants. Friendly staff.

Review 47:Very little to say the shower was a little low on pressure but a good bath if you preferfed

Review 48:Look it's an old building in a very expensive ski location Great location with excellent staff with many return customers sme for many years

Review 49:Cleanliness in the common staircase access areas needs to improve especially after late nights by other guests.

Review 50:Good central location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Able to leave luggage after check out and until ready to depart.

Review 51:Ok it's dated but spotlessly clean so no complaints for the price level at all.

Review 52:Location perfect. Central to town and slopes and ski hire. Very efficient staff over breakfast, check in and check out. Couldn't be more helpful.

Review 53:Excelllent central location. Warm and comfortable accommodation. Unpretentious. Excellent simple breakfasts (varied continental, no hot options). Very helpful and friendly staff. I have stayed at Le Kern before and they treat us like old friends. Highly recommended for those who aren't bothered about luxury and glitz.

Review 54:rooms too small, no evening meals, lack of drinks and food in the evening meant no one got together in the lounge so no atmosphere.

Review 55:The Staff are all very good and helpful, the breakfasts, the location.

Review 56:Very basic room but adequate, no frills. 3 flights of stairs with no lift to carry heavy bags. Noisy at night from passers by as room overlooked alley way which echoed sounds.

Review 57:The hotel was clean and comfortable but very basic. Great breakfast and friendly owners. Fantastic location for the ski lifts and town centre.

Review 58:No curtains in the shower makes the bathroom to be like a swimingpool.

Review 59:Very nice staff and owner. Tried to make it nice for everyone all the time. Very tasteful and generous breakfast. Very close to everything, centre, skiing etc No problem to arrive late. Everything very cozy and nice interior.

Review 60:Breakfast was of good quality but would be better with some more variation

Review 61:Great service and friendly staff Good location, less than five minutes to the slopes and right in the centre of the village. Relatively cheap (considering general Val d'Isere prices)

Review 62:The lack of in-room wifi, but since there was wifi in the common space it was nice to head into lounge for brief sessions of wifi with a beverage; allowing me to interact with the other guest more than is typical at hotels.

Review 63:Great location, very helpful staff, breakfast including the freshly brewed coffee was a perfect way to start the day.

Review 64:Wifi does not reach all of the rooms, requiring you to descend to the salon to check you emails.

Review 65:Staff is extremely warm, attentive and pleasant; breakfast is plentiful and hearty

Review 66:The rooms are very small. A lot of stairs which really wouldn't be so much of an issue if the staff were willing to help with the luggage.

Review 67:Excellent Location. Very friendly staff (subject to the luggage comment below).

Review 68:We live in Toronto and found Val d'Isere quite expensive generally.Le Kern appears to be decent value for Val d'Isere but is on thecheaper side of what is available. So its a matter of getting what youpay for. With that said, we were comfortable if not lavishing in luxury.

Review 69:Great location, very nice staff, clean, good breakfast included whichwas very convenient.

Review 70:Nothing really

Review 71:Location was ideal. In town centre but 20 yards up side street. Abilityto ski to the door. Breakfast excellent. People were fantastic andcouldn't have been more helpful whatever was asked of them.

Review 72:The only drawbacks I could think of, which in reality did not make my stay at Le Kern less enjoyable/comfirtable, are the fact that the WIFI is only available in the lounge, there is no lift to go upstairs so luggages have to be carried up, and rooms are a bit small.

Review 73:My stay at Le Kern was absolutely pleasant and hospitality was very good. Breakfast choice is varied, staff is extremely friendly, location is great, it is clean and it has a ski room where one can leave ski equipment as well as a room where one can leave the luggage upon check out. There's us also a common shower and toilet which one can use upon check out. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who would be visiting Val D'Isere, and advise not to be defied by the fact that this is a 2 star hotel.

Review 74:The bathrooms are dangerous. There are no shower curtains resulting inthe bathroom transforming into a swimming pool. Although the hotelpurports to have a night porter on duty we never met him. As a resultthere was no supervision after 9.30pm and therefore no noise control. Wedid not sleep for 48 hours owing to multiple parties in the adjacentroom. The hotel is allegedly a non-smoking hotel, that was not ourexperience. The hotel's owner was both aggressive and unconcernedwith regard to legitimate complaints. As a result we cancelled oursecond week.

Review 75:The hotel's central location is good. The rooms were cleaned daily. The manageress, Pascale, was very helpful.

Review 76:Excellent location in the centre of Val D'Isere, while still being removed enough from the main street to be quite and comfortable. Breakfast was exactly what a group of skiers need before hitting the slopes. Rooms and facilities are basic, but quaint and comfortable.

Review 77:I have only minor issues which wouldn't detract from me staying again. We stayed in room 1 which is the family room, unfortunately it is situated above an electrical transformer and a constant audible hum can be heard in the room. Although not loud if you're a light sleeper like me you may need ear plugs. Also the room was quite cold sometimes and there was no way of adjusting the temperature in the room. Wifi would be good throughout the hotel also rather than just the lounge.

Review 78:The location is the main advantage of the hotel as it is bang in the centre and only 5 minute walk from the main lift. The staff are great, very friendly and always happy to help. The breakfast is very nice with a selection of cereals, yogurts, pastries, bread, condiments, ham, eggs, cheese etc. The rooms are traditional and there is a communal lounge area with wifi where you can sit and have a hot choc or coffee. Overall a great place to stay.

Review 79:I did notify in advance that I needed gluten free food, and althoughthere was sufficient choice for breakfast to eat gluten free I wouldhave appreciated the provision of some gluten free bread by the hotelwithout being directed to a specialist shop in town where I could buy itmyself. The rate for the hotel, a 2 star bed and breakfast hotel was 137euros per night, surely enough to cover the cost of providing somegluten free bread for the week. I was supplied with gluten free bread atanother hotel in the town where I had dinner all week. It was given tome without my having to ask and at no additional cost.

Review 80:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and also the flexibleattitude about arrival and departure times ( I arrived early and leftlate but was accommodated regarding storage of luggage and use of hotellounge and facilities)

Review 81:A very friendly and professional hotel, excellently run. Located in the miidle of Val D'Isere, easy access to the ski slopes, shops and restaurants etc. Rooms were celean and comfortable and entirely fit for a skiing holiday, plenty of hot water. A good and varied buffet breakfast set us up for each day. A pleasant lounge for wifi needs or drinks.

Review 82:No WiFi available in room (but available downstairs - not really a problem) No hairdryer in room Slightly dry air in room (due to heating system, very cold outside etc)

Review 83:Excellent location, very hospitable staff, good selection for breakfast, cosy atmosphere,

Review 84:It would've been nice if the breakfast had some hot options but this is a very very minor thing which would not effect my returning to the hotel.

Review 85:The staff was very nice and helpful. Feels like an intimate family run hotel. The location is perfect. In the center of town and close to the slopes. Plus, this is one of very few hotels which will allow you to stay for as long as you like instead of requiring a Saturday to Saturday stay. I stayed for a perfect three day weekend and would definitely return to le kern.

Review 86:Small room, inferior lighting, dubious, noisy wc plumbing, no lift, narrow staircase, primitive skiroom, general need of refurbishment andmodernisation

Review 87:Great location, friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast

Review 88:Couldn't really fault the place with the exception of the small room- a bit more space would have been good for two people. There is nolift so if you have heavy bags it would be a challenge getting themup the stairs.

Review 89:When we first arrived we were a bit disappointed as the room was verysmall but the longer we stayed the more we enjoyed it and the small roomgrew on us. It had everything we needed, was clean and warm and youcould leave your ski gear in the ski room downstairs (locked). Thelocation is brilliant - a 3min walk to the ski lifts, right in thecentre of town so close to shopping, restaurants and the ski bus toother villages and directly across a short laneway for ski hire (you geta discount for staying in the hotel). The breakfasts (provided) hadgreat variety and were tasty. The staff all spoke quite good English andwere extremely helpful with all enquiries including questions aboutwhere to eat, laundry, booking taxis etc. The staff were also prompt andhelpful in replying to my email questions before we arrived. There is asitting room downstairs which is a pleasant place to spend some hoursand we were able to have picnic dinner there a couple of nights. We werevery happy with our stay.

Review 90:Wonderful hotel and very friendly and accommodating staff!Location was great. Value for money excellent, particularly so for Val d'Isere - would thoroughly recommend this hotel to others.

Review 91:Strange room configuration absolutely irrelevant for a young couple: 2floors with a very steep ladder, very low ceiling in the upper floor(you cannot stand up there), small space on each floor - so the livingspace was very limited. Also, unexpectedly poor interior (even fordeclared 2*, from my point of view) and too chilly when the wind isblowing...

Review 92:Personnel (along with location) is the key asset of Le Kern -responsive, full of hospitality and kindness. Only they made our stayingin the hotel pleasant, overall.
