Reviews for L'Horizon
Review 1:Mr. & Mrs. Speck and their staff made us feel like guests in their home. Which, I suppose, we were! L'Horizon is truly special. And we can't thank Jean-Pascal enough for the impromptu tour of historic military artifacts. Thanks again, Jean-Pascal.
Review 2:the hotel is completely dilapidated and bears no relation to the photos. it is falling down and dirty, French hotels at their worst. everything crumbling and knackered. no other guests and ludicrously overpriced. avoid at all costs. the ceilings will come down any minute. strike from all guides and condemn
Review 3:nothing
Review 4:Needs some fixing up and repairs but it is a lovely and charming place. We were very comfortable.
Review 5:We loved the owner. She very sweet and accommodating when our booking showed only 2 and we were 4.. she bought in an extra bed for us .
Review 6:It was a pitty that there was no coffe-decafiné.
Review 7:The atmosphere, Laura Ashley-type, room tastfully decorated, location, very good dinner, very nice and most helpful staff.
Review 8:- I'm more used to book hotels in the centre, but had to take this due to availability. Hotel is good, but it's too calm for me
Review 9:- Comfortable bed - clean bathroom - Quality of food served at dinner time though not cheap - If you look for calm place, here you can have it - Acceptable price-quality ratio
Review 10:The bathroom needs to be modernized and new towels would help. We had trouble with too much hot water! Very hard to get a comfortable temperature.
Review 11:Food was excellent and staff very helpful. Nice location away from the traffic and noise.
Review 12:Clearly there is a faded charm about the hotel but I would imagine given its location in Thionville ( why would anyone stay here ?! ) I suspect it does not have great business . However the meal was probably the worst we have had ever in France . Some previous comments give a more detailed explanation so I'll not bore you with the details .
Review 13:This was our last night of a 17 night trip around Italy and France . Based on Alistair Sawday and reviews we thought this would be a nice finish on our last night . Twin room was good but the meal was very very poor . I would not recommend eating here . There is an Auberge 200 metres up the road …a much better option . Something seems not right at this hotel .
Review 14:We were disappointed at the main course of our dinner, after I have had so many wonderful meals there in the past.
Review 15:The enchantment of the place and the ambience indoors. It was heart warming to be recognised after many years' absence.
Review 16:Restrictive breakfast- buffet would have been better.
Review 17:Good location; clean and tidy. Free parking. Good range of tourist information. Excellent restaurant with views over the city -particularly good at night-time
Review 18:This hotel is a throwback to another age. Elegant French decoration and furniture and an excellent restaurant, something that is hard to find these days. The proprietors were very welcoming and helpful, especially in support of the reason for our trip to Alsace. Overall good value for money.
Review 19:The hotel's fading fast - it looks tired / past its best. The room price - if the hotel was in better condition it would be good value, it needs serious investment / refreshing and refurbishing
Review 20:Very good size room / comfortable bed / excellent views from the restaurant over the town - although the town's not a great looking town! Very helpful, accomodating staff - they definitely made their guests feel welcomed
Review 21:Impossible to get cold water from the tap; had to brush my teeth with hot water; Restaurant closes at 9:30 even if you tell in adavance you are going to be late; There are traces of a past greatness which make the present state of the hotel even more depressing
Review 22:The position overlooking Thionville (though the panorama is not that great); nice courtyard
Review 23:wi-fi only worked in public areas.
Review 24:Quality of food. Manager went out of her way for us. Fantastic spacious room with great views and balcony. Very comfortable bed Well trained young staff. Everyone very firendly
Review 25:Although we enjoyed our evening meal at the hotel we thought it was pricey and if we had looked at the menu first we would have probably chosen to go into town to eat.
Review 26:The hotel is set looking over Thionville. The owners are extremely hospitable and friendly and helped us with regard to visiting the Hackenberg fortress. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished with good attention to detail, spacious and clean, beds were very comfortable. There is a lovely terrace looking out over the town and all the public rooms are well appointed with a high standard of furnishing and decoration.
Review 27:Stylish hotel!
Review 28:Very welcoming and helpful hostess and excellent meal. Extremely comfortable beds and well appointed ensuite bedroom
Review 29:Good, different than our daily, rooms. THE people are well willing to support.
Review 30:charming French Hotel which reminds me of the old days when each French hotel had its own warn patches
Review 31:Cheerful service of the staff and obvious willingness to please .I felt that I was being welcomed into a lovely French home.
Review 32:Very nice hotel & great staff I enjoyed my stay in le horizon.
Review 33:Outside areas of the hotel were very run down, and the overall building looked a little "sad".
Review 34:We were made very welcome on arrival and the meal we had was delicious.
Review 35:The garden is a total mess. What could be a lovely terrace below just broken concrete. The whole place is totally unloved. The room and food were expensive for what they were. A large table for lunch the next day obscured the view in the dining room. Obviously its our fault, Alistair Sawday's in fact, for booking in but I would say a hotel to be avoided.
Review 36:very little I'm afraid. The hotel must be in trouble as it had an air of being uncared for. Unhung pictures propped against the wall in bar. Altogether very sad atmosphere.
Review 37:Since we're too stupid to use Tom-Toms, we had trouble finding the hotel ... but a friendly man at a petrol station pointed us in the right direction.
Review 38:Absolutely charming reception, a very comfortable hotel with recent refurbishing of rooms and bathrooms: modern but retaining its classic French style. Very good restaurant and excellent breakfast.
Review 39:The friendly welcome followed by the personal treatment throughout the stay. The excellent standard of the cuisine. The individual nature of the bedroom.
Review 40:expensive wine in the restaurant food not as good as expected from reviews bathrooms very outdated [eg tarnished brass fittings, wild floral tiles and porcelain]
Review 41:small intimate personal touch
Review 42:The restaurant was ridiculously overpriced and the food not all that good. But it is very hard to travel to another restaurant.
Review 43:The staff were wonderful.
Review 44:Food prices on the high side but acceptable.
Review 45:Spacious rooms, excellent food in restaurant, superb views over the surrounding countryside and Thionville. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 46:It was all first class
Review 47:The luxury of the decor and ambience of the whole building, excellent owner and staff with attention to detail. Sat on the terrace for our evening meal overlooking the town, not the best view in the world but very pleasant, I had steak and my wife had fish for our main meal followed by a selection of very nice cheeses, very well cooked and presented, we thought the starters were expensive at a similar price to the mains around 18 - 25 euros each, or you could have a 3 course set price at around 41euros, but the food was good, breakfast at 11 euros was also very good.
Review 48:There was nothing that I did not like.
Review 49:Friendly Service in great setting. A luxury hotel where personalattention was an outstanding feature. Would recommend staying at thishotel. The owner and his wife are great hosts. Food is some of the bestin Europe, I've found.
Review 50:Bathroom should be cleaned better.
Review 51:Don't afraid, if you are going there first time and, instead of expected silent romantic place, you are still see high city buildings. View is changing last 400m and ... you see small building among trees. Take your room, relax a few minutes, and go to terrace for one beer with city panoramic view. I know, it is not the same as view on Mosel valley, but also nice. Especially when you see a lot of lights on the evening. But this panorama, you should watch from a restaurant. If you don't know, what to choose, just take menu of the day. It's very good composed dishes. You can choose some wine - list is enough long. And then you can eat, drink and relax. Especially if you are there with beautiful longhair lady... unfortunately, I was alone.
Review 52:Overcharged us (we payed 25% more than the internet rate we booked)Not very flexible in terms of accommodating needs offamilies/small children
Review 53:Family run, didn't feel commercial
Review 54:the only thing........ the breakfast was not worth it
Review 55:Excellent is not the right word for that hotel. Everything was great, and beter than excellent , but....
Review 56:We booked a superior room, but the state of the decor and furnishingswas very tired and was less than superior. There was no elbow room inthe shower as it was over a very narrow bath, with a plastic showercurtain that stuck to you due to lack of space! There were two sinks inthe bathroom, but space was so limited two people would have had a jobusing them at the same time! No mirror in the bedroom - the only mirrorwas in the bathroom over the sinks. No fan in the room, as the websitesuggested. Upon arrival, the aroma of the room was less than "fresh" Didnot feel this room warrented the "superior" price tag! Breakfast was of2* quality.
Review 57:Nice restaurant, serving excellent food prepared by the owner chef. Niceviews across Thionville. Quiet room.
Review 58:The hotel is beautiful with old world charm - not found in today's chain hotels. The owners are wonderful and spend time talking with their guests. Jean Pascal is a fantastic chef, so be sure to dine at the hotel.
Review 59:no air con, but the weather during our stay was not hot + old building makes it more cold inside would like cheese for breakfast as sliced cheese
Review 60:Amazing place! Very friendly personal. Comfy beds&bedclothes! Extra quality&tasty restaurant on the first floor. Very clean&cozy rooms even the cheapest ones. Nice breakfast, good cofee&ham. Very tasty bread&rolls! You can feel here yourself better than home! Free parking&wi-fi. Pet friendly. Everything for you. Great value.
Review 61:We ate in the "gourmet" restaurant the first evening and the food wasterrible. Read many reviews boasting of fine food, but it was notevident that night. The porcelet I had was at best medium rare andcloser to rare. I cannot imagine a trained french cook serving almostraw pork. My wife ordered duck and it was badly over cooked. She had acherry sauce which consisted of the same jus on my plate to which theyadded onions. Soggy peas and carrots to go with it. I've had better inpoor english pubs. Having said this, the owners realized how bad thefood was and, therefore, did not charge us for the meal. I suspect theregular chef had the night off and hired a schoolkid to cook that night.Other issue, one could not close toilet door in room while sitting oncommode (neither for my wife nor I).
Review 62:Owner was very welcoming and the facility was very nice. Room was large, with a nice bed, free wifi and a large bathroom. Up in the hills aboveThionville was also nice.
Review 63:Would have prefered twin bed.
Review 64:We liked the room, the bathroom and the lounge. Great hospitality. God food. Give my best recommendation.
Review 65:Peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, lovely rooms, friendly and helpful staff and a very good dinner
Review 66:The room was lovely with a spectacular view. The owners are very friendly and the food was excellent.
Review 67:Very nice room, clean and with all amenities one would expect. Bathroom was exceptional. Very cosy and a magnificent view from the breakfast room.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Room excellent, Food Excellent, Owner and Staff very friendly and supportive.
Review 70:A lovely warm welcome in a beautiful hotel overlooking the town. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful.
Review 71:Family atmosphere and relaxed attitude.
Review 72:Very nice stuff Calm and beautiful location
Review 73:ambience quality of restaurant quietness
Review 74:Friendly welcome, peaceful location, good food, very comfortable
Review 75:Everything is OK except that there is no door for the bath room. Maybe the room I booked is the smallest at this hotel.
Review 76:Our room and bathroom had a lovely luxurious feel. Huge comfortable bed, lovely food. Staff courteous and obliging will definitely stay here again.
Review 77:- Friendly staff - Good restaurant - Comfortable and spacious room - Easy parking
Review 78:location, friendly people and good quality.
Review 79:No lift. Expensive breakfast.
Review 80:Beautiful settings, nicely decorayed rooms, romantic restaurant. Private parking and free wifi
Review 81:friendly atmosphere attentive staff good food excellent location for Maginot line good for wine tours
Review 82:The hotel staff succeeds in creating immediately good relationships.
Review 83:Very hospitable. Cuisine great but a little expensive. Location very appealing.
Review 84:Charming hotel in pleasant grounds but the big attraction is the restaurant.
Review 85:Large rooms, dated decor [quite distinctive], friendly staff
