Reviews for The Grove Cromer
Review 1:Very nice garden room. Good swimming pool which was uncrowded and maintained at a good temperature. Good dinner menus for a weekend stay. Those staying longer may find the menu choices short of variety.
Review 2:Unfortunately, there is no bar so beers are out of a bottle - a real shame.
Review 3:A beautiful period property with a cosy and relaxed feel. The staff were exceptional - nothing too much trouble. Room was spotless with a comfortable bed and an excellent en-suite. The food was real quality may have been because the food is locally sourced fresh produce...5 star!
Review 4:We were put staying in a room that wasn't even on the guesthouse, it was a short walk away. On a cold stormy November night this wasn't ideal.
Review 5:The main positive was the pool, although the changing rooms smelled a little.
Review 6:I was not impressed with the bathroom as it had not been cleaned properly however it was attended to immediately.
Review 7:Lovely property good food friendly and helpful staff and if you want a family break it would be really good. My husband and I both enjoyed our stay which was bed and breakfast basis and the food was very good quality and beautifully cooked.
Review 8:The weather was unfortunate but here was nothing The Grove could do about that!
Review 9:The staff were absolutely superb. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. Creating this wonderful atmosphere reflects very well on the management.
Review 10:Pool changing room a bit basic
Review 11:Room was as shown - lovely bathroom and comfortable bedroom good swimming pool Nice breakfast and friendly, helpful staff
Review 12:Everything! Had a garden room, it was great - weather was unseasonably mild so sat outside watching the birds and squirrels foraging in the leaves. Idyllic. Food was very good and all staff friendly and helpful - first stay but not the last
Review 13:Slept badly, don't know why, maybe a bit warm in the room but then again no one expects it to be 18 degrees in November
Review 14:Beautiful building, lovely room, shower, paintings in dining room
Review 15:Could do with small writing desk in room, but probably insufficient space
Review 16:Good location, near to the centre of Cromer, and coastal walks Quality historical building sensitively furnished. Excellent staff, warm welcome.
Review 17:On arrival told off by receptionist for not booking for dinner beforehand after much deliberation fitted us in. Restaurant had 3 empty tables so what was the problem!
Review 18:dining experience very good food and staff excellent in dining room
Review 19:I would only say that the duvet was a bit too hot for the temperature of the room (and I had turned off the radiator).
Review 20:The decor, the food (and availablity of gluten-free options), the pleasant staff, the comfy bed, the building itself, the garden, the location: all very good indeed.
Review 21:Had booked for dinner on Saturday night.Taken to the lounge to view menu, but that was full of other groups so moved to a cold, dark corridor to choose from the menu so had to ask to go straight into the restaurant instead. Also additonal charge for credit card payments was unexpected when settling the bill.
Review 22:Warm welcome, very friendly staff and very comfortable room. Wifi in room and public areas. An excellent breakfast. The swimming pool was a bonus!
Review 23:single bed rather cramped (feet touched the wall) Dinning service too slow. Booked Sunday lunch for 1pm, started didn't arrive till 1.45 (there we only 4 other dinners).
Review 24:good position. reasonable value. nice breakfast
Review 25:Really nice rooms especially the orchard rooms. Staff made us feel very welcome and they were all very friendly. We eat in the restaurant and the food was first class. The serving staff were excellent allowing us to finish off in the Lounge in front of the fire. Really nice choice of wine also. We had a really nice breakfast, again with excellent service and the Manager even offered to drive us to the station if there were no cabs avail so that we would not miss our train. A lot of hotels can learn from this little gem in Cromer as to how you can really make a difference. Fantastic service, great food and wine, really nice accommodation, what more could you ask for. A great place to stay when in Cromer
Review 26:Our room. Small and poor dated decor. Also cleanliness of actual room poor.
Review 27:Restaurant and quality of food and restaurant staff. Bathroom was small but of a good standard.
Review 28:The twin room was too small for the furniture, therefore there was inadequate space to accommodate two suit cases. The kettle and tiny TV were balanced on a slated table too close to the floor which could easily be knocked over.
Review 29:The restaurant food was fantastic and the beds comfortable and the location was very quiet.
Review 30:Would have been better if advised that the location was hilly and unsuitable for someone who is not good at walking.
Review 31:The Hotel itself is lovely, but remote from the town and would need to have someone good at walking to stay there.
Review 32:Corridor lighting shone through door framework n a slight draught. Memerised by the glowing fire evacuation notice in the dark room. Room 7
Review 33:Characteristic hotel and lovely food n staff
Review 34:Excellent hospitality, I was really well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was quiet for a restful break. Enjoyed the garden and swimming pool.
Review 35:The staff were excellent all welcoming and friendly;the restaurant is a real bonus and we enjoyed a superb evening dinner on our first night. The location of the hotel suited us very well as it's close enough to walk to town centre and for cliff walks, we hope to visit again and stay longer next time.
Review 36:Expected much tastier breakfast. Poor lighting in bedroom difficult to access power points due to large radiator installed over two power points. There was a hairdryer supplied but no accessible power point near a mirror.
Review 37:The history of the place
Review 38:We had a room where the shower was in the corner of a large bath. I coped all right but husband with bad legs has difficulty climbing in.
Review 39:Everything else was very good.
Review 40:!. First evening meal was well presented but of poor quality (fish and chips!) and without flavour; the batter was hard, overcooked and unpalatable; the chips were soggy. A disappointment. As a result we chose not dine further at the restaurant in the evenings. 2. Not everyone likes slow jazz at meal times - especially at breakfast!. NB. The hotel does feature its food prominently in the literature, which had been an attraction to us when booking.
Review 41:The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. We took advantage of the hotel proximity to footways giving easy access to the clifftop footpaths and in to town. Bus routes run close to the accommodation. All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Grove which has pleasant grounds and ample parking space. We liked the cottage garden. Thank you.
Review 42:Bed was a standard double in one room, not a queen size as advertised. Breakfast one day half hour wait and then muffin had been toasted on rack previously used for bacon (did not improve the flavor of the smoked salmon).
Review 43:The only negative was the shower cubicle it was vey small
Review 44:The hotel and location were both lovely, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room was very pleasant (number 4) overlooking beautiful gardens.
Review 45:Uneven floor levels not good for people with mobility problems. Room cleanliness an issue as well as some maintenance required on such as light fittings, plug sockets.
Review 46:Good location, nice grounds, friendly staff.
Review 47:The room was very cold mainly due to ill fitting windows. The windows had no curtains just shutters and these did not fit either. It was a cold night and very windy. We slept in our clothes as it was so cold but every few minutes we were disturbed because the shutters were rattling. We mentioned this to the staff and were informed that it was a listed building so the windows could not be replaced. Receptionist did not seem too bothered about our situation. Would definitely not stay there again. I have stayed in cheaper, better hotels.
Review 48:Convenient for where we wanted to be
Review 49:One small gripe. Had to make coffee on the floor as table to small and low.
Review 50:Staff were excellent. 5 star service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Beautiful grounds too.
Review 51:None. If anything the hotel is much better than the town of Cromer itself!
Review 52:Staff very friendly and helpful. The dinner was excellent.. The hotel is very well kept.
Review 53:Dated look, 1980s (?) melamine bedroom units, standard double bed (needed king size), small bedroom. Tired furniture and decoration in sitting room and dining rooms. In all, poor value for money.
Review 54:Shortbread biscuits in the bedroom.
Review 55:ROOM COULD DO WITH A CEILING FAN AS VERY WARM + BIGGER TV MOUNTED ON WALL WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE CONSIDERING IT WAS A FAMILY ROOM. LESS EXPENSIVE & CHILD FRIENDLY MENU. ALSO JUST HOW MANY BREAKFAST WAITRESSES DO YOU NEED?
Review 56:LOCATION & NICE & PEACEFUL, GRAND OLD HOUSE.
Review 57:Waiting on staff - needs training, slow and disorganised, each doing different system, seemed mildly chaotic but with a smile.
Review 58:Beautiful Location Evening dinner - much enjoyed. Have completed Norfold survey and recommended as best restaurant. Cleanliness of bedroom superb
Review 59:Lovely building well located and hidden back off the road. Food was very good both evening meal and breakfast. Pre-breakfast swim in the clean pool. Staff cheerful and helpful.
Review 60:Shower head needs changing and a non slip mat for when getting out of the bath. We stayed in garden room for disabled and some things need to be addressed.
Review 61:Everything, staff were helpful and friendly. Food was excellent but a bit pricey, portion size was very good. Accommodation was very spacious with plenty of storage for clothes extra. Amazing amount of tea, coffee and milk. We take some when we go on holiday but didn't need to use it!
Review 62:Generally very good .Would have preferred a set menu in evening in addition to what is offered on Sunday.lunches.All a-la carte.Although excellent food a tad pricey in comparison to similar eating establishments in the evening in Cromer
Review 63:Excellently located and well run establishment.Close family management.Spotlessly clean. Breakfast excellent .Sunday lunch excellent
Review 64:The standard of accommodation was not as expected. We did not realise we would be accommodated in a garden cottage and not the main house. The cottage was VERY basic, and definitely not worth the 'reduced' rate of £125! Breakfast was average and service was slow.
Review 65:Location - close to beach and town
Review 66:Stayed for three nights in June this year. The location was great, the room excellent, for breakfast there was a great choice of alternatives, we dined two nights at the in house restaurant and can only say the food was of also excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Amazing value a great find and will stay there again in the future.
Review 67:We had the outside accommodation which was perfect to sit out once we had arrived and after our meal. There were lots of different places to sit not just a main seating everywhere for everyone as the garden was split into areas to make it more natural. Walk down to the beach took no time at all.
Review 68:Could not fault it at all.
Review 69:Beautiful house and grounds with large comfortable room and with very friendly and attentive staff. The food in the restaurant was also excellent in the evening and the breakfast was lovely. The swimming pool, though small, was a very welcome, warm place to relax after a long day on the Coastal Path. The location was also excellent being near woods and also the cliffs and beach and an easy walk into Cromer town.
Review 70:We stayed in a room #10 which was really small and outdated, disappointing really. The bathroom was so tiny we could not even keep our toiletries there.
Review 71:It's a beautiful Georgian mansion, the location is great, and we really enjoyed the breakfast and the hospitality of staff.
Review 72:The distance between our room and the kids were a bit far although I had stated during my booking that I wanted it closer. I wish I had been informed prior to my visit in order to make an informed decision.
Review 73:Liked our stay there and the kids liked their room and the pool.
Review 74:The house is beautiful and the staff welcoming and friendly. The bedrooms are well equipped and comfortable. The food and service are excellent. Well positioned for walking although only a few minutes walk from town, it feels like the middle of the countryside.
Review 75:Two people, two cases, one luggage rack. Not much space in the bathroom to put toiletry cases.
Review 76:Very friendly welcome, helpful staff. Restaurant service professional but relaxed and friendly, excellent dinner. Beautiful setting, pleasant garden and short walk through the woods to a magnificent view of the coast. Easy access from town. Quiet, restful. Spacious and comfortable room. Excellent shower.
Review 77:Nothing it's fantastic!!!
Review 78:I loved everything about this hotel!! The hotel is lovely, great location, excellent rooms, facilities, grounds. Amazing staff and the food was excellent!! Breakfast and evening meals 10/10. Made me very welcome nothing too much trouble, friendly, go that extra mile for you to enjoy your stay!! Cannot fault this hotel in anyway and i can't wait to go again :-D Thank you for an amazing holiday!!!
Review 79:Things were just not as good as they should be .Little things that should have been correct but were not although when brought to the attention of the owners they were corrected. The room was suitable for a disabled person but access to the hotel dinning room was via a home made slope that was not suitable for purpose. If I had to do the pushing I would not have been able to.We also had problems with the food.
Review 80:The situation was very good .The staff friendly .
Review 81:the friendliness of the staff and manager plus the room was so cozy and had great view and it was set well away from the public road. They had a nice warm swimming pool at no extra cost
Review 82:bREAKFAST NOT AS GOOD AS WE WERE EXPECTING - NO SMOKED SALMON ON SECOND DAY SO GAVE US COLD COOKED SALMON AND SCRAMBLED EGGS. THE PORK PIE WAS BLACK AND BURNT.
Review 83:EASEY WALK TO CROMER OVER THE CLIFF TOP. GUEST HOUSE IN QUIET LOCATION.
Review 84:Our experience of room 11... The Shower worked intermittently, the shower door was hanging out of the runners and the toilet flush was inconsistent. Very helpful staff tried to amend but all to no avail. Full English and scrambled egg Breakfasts, on the two mornings of our stay, arrived cold. The pot of Tea had a disgusting taste!..... No sugar available at the help yourself cereals table??
Review 85:Lovely helpful staff. Relaxing surroundings... My elderly parents loved the cabin type room with floor heating. Great location for a nearby walk along the cliff top!
Review 86:The room was a touch dusty, the shower didn't work. We stayed 2 nights and on the second day the used cups etc were not washed or replaced with clean ones, and the coffee/sugar not replaced.
Review 87:We liked the size of the room, like stating in a holiday home in the woods. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were friendly.
Review 88:Grumpy welcome and the fact that our room wasn't ready after a long drive. The lady on the reception was very miserable. Clearly we were an inconvenience expecting our room robe ready when they'd said it would be. Wifi didn't work at all. Breakfast is served at 8 so too late if you're on business and have to leave early or have young children. Also no veggie option. Must be a punishment for being veggie:)
Review 89:Location was good - especially being near the coast and most of the staff friendly
Review 90:We loved the atmosphere at the grove, all the staff where really friendly and the room was to a really high standard, would defiantly recommend to others.
Review 91:The decor of the bedroom is a bit tired, the furniture looks cheap and something you could get into argos or a cheap furniture store, nothing in keeping with the building; the door of the bathroom opening inwards into the room was constantly getting stuck with the carpet floor in the bedroom; the floor in the bathroom is a layer of linoleum (cheap!!), while a ceramic floor would have been much nicer and would have probably costed the same; no shampoo or bathroom products in the shower.
Review 92:B&B is located into a beautiful building just 5 minuts from Cromer, with access to the walk on the cliffs and to the beach. There is plenty of parking and the breakfast, which is included in the price of the bedroom, is really good.
Review 93:I was slightly disappointed with the décor of the bedroom somewhat tired and shabby.
Review 94:Convenience of position of hotel Easy access to both town and beach good walking area no need to use car
Review 95:The toilet in our room could have done with updating - it didn't flush too well!
Review 96:The staff were so helpful and friendly. The walk through the woods to the cliffs was just what was needed to boost your appetite. The food was excellently cooked and presented.
Review 97:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 98:Excellent location, a short walk to Cromer one way and Overstrand the other and all along the cliff top. Room was comfortable and the breakfast excellent with more than enough to eat.
Review 99:Stairs in room are quite steep and there is only a stair gate at the bottom but not the top - we were fine but have very young children Area around pool & shower was clean enough but could have been a little better
Review 100:Lovely hotel & grounds Family room Outdoor play area & pool Proximity to the beach and town Breakfast / food in general
Review 101:Having to leave before trying the lunch menu.
Review 102:Well appointed quiet room (was actually a family room with a double bed and two single beds in an alcove). View over the gardens. Breakfast was superb. Fresh orange juice, nice selection of cereals, Gravadlax and scrambled egg on muffin that was delicious. Coffee pot good. Locally sourced full english alternatives. Nice swimming pool although we didn't use it. Walking distance to the coast. Ideal for a short break or a seaside trip to Cromer
Review 103:Without a doubt a fine dining experience at Dinner and the breakfast was also a delight. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The hotel, pool and general location are great as a base for touring the general area and relaxing at the end of the day. Thanks to all for making this a stay to remember, and we are looking forward to the Spring Menu Chef :)
Review 104:The double bed was small for two tall adults.
Review 105:The staff were very friendly, the dinner we had in the restaurant was excellent. I hasten to add that this stay was in February, the hotel was quiet and the weather extremely cold.
Review 106:There wasn't anything not to like. I wish I'd got there earlier and had more time to explore the gardens and pool.
Review 107:The bed was incredibly comfy and I loved the shuttered windows. Best nights sleep in a long time, and a delicious breakfast in the morning. Its very much a family hotel- so not super modern decor in the rooms, but I really think that goes in its favour.
Review 108:The single beds were fine for me but they could be a problem if you were tall or large.
Review 109:Really friendly staff, beautiful gardens, lovely rooms. Particularly liked the documentation on the history of the hotel and my room. Very good food.
Review 110:At £115 per night we'd expected somewhere luxurious, but The Grove disappointed in many areas: the bathroom had a tiny shower, no shampoo or flannel provided; the bed seemed smaller than a double and wasn't comfortable, the linen wasn't that nice and the furniture was mostly cheap, modern flat-pack (not inkeeping with the period property); breakfast didn't inspire us to dine in the restaurant (which would have been £100 for 2 with wine) - scrambled eggs were really dry, my husband had full English both days but on day 2 only got half a mushroom! It wasn't appalling, but would have been good value for £70-80 per night, not the price we paid. Would not recommend. > Heinz beans > Half mushroom/tomato second day > Dry scrambled eggs
Review 111:This hotel is in a good location to reach Cromer town (five minutes walk) and the beach (even closer, accessible via the hotel garden). Also, it's a family business and I do appreciate what they are trying to do here - diversifying with cottages and glamping in the grounds and building the restaurant. However, negatives outweighed positives for us...
Review 112:The only downside was that initially we were placed in an adjoining garden room and the noise from the children next door was rather irritating, however, we were moved quite quickly and all was well.
Review 113:The staff and owners were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, the food is out of this world ...amazing ...definitely recommend it..
Review 114:The food was average, We got asked four times if we wanted more drinks! Would have asked if we did, Room was not clean am a cleaner so make certain checks, got damp tissue and wiped down the side of the floor in the bathroom was filthy and full of... well lets say hairs! valance sheet on bed was disgusting although the rest of the bed linen was clean! Definitely not worth £105 and I would not class it four star, I did make my concerns on checking out, I feel if they had offered a return visit with improvments made I would return, As it is I never will. Also lots of high chairs and children in the restaurant not my idea of fun really, although I work with children and have my own would have been nice to been pre told so we could have booked a table at a different time maybe.
Review 115:The manager was helpful on locating us to a quiter room.
Review 116:No breakfast pork pie available. Sounded nice but regrettable had ran out. Muffin not toasted well.
Review 117:Loved the table tennis and pool. Lovely evening meal.
Review 118:The pool was not exactly warm, the portions at breakfast were quite small, and the bed linens were not very clean.
Review 119:I liked the cosy atmosphere and the fact that the lighthouse and the woods were so close. The room was very nice as well.
Review 120:Poor wifi reception in our room, though we didn't need to use it so it wasn't a problem for us.
Review 121:The food was fantastic. Loved the old house. Pool was basic but we both had a great swim. Great walks from the house along the beach and into Cromer.
Review 122:A well needed escape from daily London hustle and bustle. We only visited for a night to attend a fantastic reunion. We had a spacious family room which had lovely decor with an ensuite bathroom. Staff were friendly, helpful and accomodating. Great customer service! Will definitely come back and stay longer than a day next time. A big THANKS.
Review 123:I found the food to be only reasonable. This was probably because everything seemed to be served on cold plates. I can only assume that I picked a bad night. It was solved by eating elsewhere the following night.
Review 124:The location was good and the staff extremely helpful and attentive. I would recommend very highly
Review 125:A small family run establishment that provides excellent value good quality accommodation with friendly attentive service at all times. Good facilities including swimming pool and food of a very high stnadard, locally sourced. Highly recommended.
Review 126:Outside rooms could be a touch warmer on arrival.OK later when we turned up. Suggest brighten up lounge, maybe make up the fire . (not really criticism , just ideas)
Review 127:Staff, atmosphere, service, ambience Location in its own grounds.
Review 128:Would have liked more than one towel per person in the room.
Review 129:Extremely helpful, friendly and efficient staff. Varied dinner and breakfast menu, food well cooked and presented. Dining room and lounge warm and welcoming and very attractive. Bedroom small but very clean and comfortable. Walk through woods to breach lovely. Will certainly be back.
Review 130:what's not to like?
Review 131:Comfortable, welcoming, relaxing, good food and best of all the staff very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay again and recommend to others.
Review 132:because I cannot do stairs, they gave me a room on the outside which was the disabled room and it was very big and the bathroom was massive. It was all new and lovely. The breakfast I had, smoked salmon and scrambled egg was very nice.
Review 133:Found the single bed at bit small for comfort.
Review 134:Lovely, characterful building on a lovely stretch of coast. Value for money for single room was very good especially as it included breakfast.
