Reviews for Burford House

Review 1:We had a two night stay here over New Year. Service at breakfast on the first day was shambolic overseen by a female 'Manuel' and taking 45 minutes to arrive from the time it was ordered. The following day however we were met by a delightful young girl who was efficient and attentive at breakfast. Such a difference which marred our impression of this hotel.

Review 2:Good location on the high street but there is some traffic noise if your room is located in this side.

Review 3:We were in the ground floor room in the courtyard. The room above was occupied by a family with kids who would get up at 5 am and the kids would be jumping around. The noise was not only enough to wake us up but give us a headache. ..but I guess that's just our luck and no fault of the hotel.

Review 4:Excellent location. Ian is extremely helpful and forthcoming with itineraries, maps and suggestions. Very charming and tastefully decorated rooms. Delicious English breakfast freshly prepared to order!!

Review 5:Booking.com suggested that this hotel is a 5* hotel. This is not the case. The only meal that is served is breakfast; disappointed with that too! there is not a fridge in room and I didn't like to even try the hairdryer. First time that we have ever been disappointed with a stay away from home

Review 6:Ian (the owner) was a very pleasant man. Nothing was too much for him. The location of the hotel could not have been better. The room was clean but we were disappointed in the room and facilities

Review 7:A great location but in common with all hotels in Burford securing a parking place mildly challenging!

Review 8:The size, the ambience, the friendliness, the furnishings, the sparkling dining room, the breakfast, the service with nothing too much trouble

Review 9:Wifi did not work and no phone signal in the room. I would not have wanted to be in the front of the house as you are on a main road . In comparison with other 5* guest houses I think it was overpriced

Review 10:The house is very old and has a good cosy atmosphere and our host was extremely helpful and the breakfast excellent quality and quantitiy

Review 11:Nothing wrong with this hotel.

Review 12:Beautiful hotel and our room was lovely with a four poster bed which was so comfortable. The hotel owner was a perfect host. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 13:Very bad experience, When we arrived the owner told us he did not have our rooms available. We had done the reservations four months ago! He said he had sent an email only one day before but we did not received it. Not a serious place to go!

Review 14:Room tatty, appeared unloved. Stain on unplumped sofa. Carpet fraying on seam. Erratic wifi. Free parking but on main High Street, therefore a lottery if you got a space. Poor water pressure in shower.

Review 15:Excellent breakfast, served by very nice young lady., in a lovely bright room. Nice lady to welcome us when we arrived. Glad I got room on a deal, otherwise would of been very very disappointed.

Review 16:Road and pub noise was quite loud (Friday night) but nothing that the Hotel had any control over.

Review 17:The room was gorgeous and very well appointed. Lovely staff and great breakfast in the morning.

Review 18:Not a bad experience but we felt the courtyard area let down the hotel. It is a super location for a courtyard and was not as tidy as the rest of the hotel.

Review 19:Loved the hotel, the room and the food. Staff were very pleasant.

Review 20:As above. Not sure how it can claim 5 star status.

Review 21:Staff pleasant. Bed linen & table linen clean. Owner willing to listen to and gave a reduction when I indicated the room situation.

Review 22:Very noisy room on the front and very warm no air con. No parking facilities. Room old and tired needs a major face lift to warrant a 5*

Review 23:Good location to visit Burford and surrounding areas

Review 24:Had really high hopes for Burford House given the reviews. Could not fault the staff very polite and helpful. This hotel has so much potential but sadly disappointed. The immediate thing I noticed was there being a musty smell. The room we had was also not that clean, looks like it had be neglected for a while. Really hope that something good comes of this review as it could be one of the best hotels in Burford.

Review 25:Amazing old building and friendly staff in a perfect location.

Review 26:The only constructive criticism I could offer is they need to spend more time cleaning/detailing the bedrooms & bathrooms; there were areas that definitely needed more attention. The rest of the hotel was very clean but of course it's most important to have where you sleep and bathe to be 100% clean and sanitary as well.

Review 27:Two Seattle best of friends drove from Bath to Burford & arrived at the Burford House at 7:30pm. Ian welcomed us with a warm smile, the best butternut squash soup, a sandwich & a glass of wine, & the kitchen was closed; Ian is the best!!! The Burford house has gorgeous old world charm, cozy & tastefully decorated, even down to the silver tongs for the sugar cubes at each table. The bedrooms were spacious w/very comfortable beds & large bathrooms. The food was delicious!!!!! Definitely will go back!!!!!

Review 28:The curtains on the four poster block all light to read in bed or access the bedside table. I had to move them half way along the bed and get out around the, in order to see to read and get at drink / clock etc. in the night. Wifi wasn't great.

Review 29:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is great (although rooms at the front will be noisy) and the cooked breakfast was delicious. comfy bed and sofa in the room, with a large bathroom and shower. Good choice of local pubs for food.

Review 30:A severly rotten window frame is bad enough but a yellowed sticker saying 'do not open' suggests the management have failed to remedy the problem for far too long.

Review 31:Excellent breakfast

Review 32:a) No Restaurant!!! as still advertised b) No parking (my fault i should have read more closely) c)having to wait 50 minutes for breakfast apparently a group of 6!!! caused this major delay d) bedroom was very noisy from traffic all night. Get a back room! e)they allow dogs! Which kept barking through our 50 minute wait for breakfast!! f) breakfast was staffed by young girls who didnt have the experience or charisma necessary for dealing with people. g) Wi Fi was useless. h) radiators were not working on arrival and needed bleeding which was dealt with very promptly. BUT should this not have been noticed in a 5 star hotel? i) what on earth does 5 star mean these days?

Review 33:Room was comfortable with nice en-suite.

Review 34:No toilet roll in windrush room and Room was itself a fire exit Dirty flannel No evening restaurant Staff edgy and unenthusiastic Didn't take the breakfast order correctly Bottled up tap water back outdoor paved area leading to Swinbrook room deteriorated and a real trip hazard

Review 35:Bed room spaciousness

Review 36:We've been to Burford House many times since it opened and see it as our romantic treat once (or hopefully twice a year). The staff are always lovely, honest and open - often with a welcoming cup of tea. The rooms are tasteful and relaxing and the bathrooms are luxurious. Burford is a lovely town with some excellent eating establishments that my husband and I put on par with michelin starred restaurants. Burford House breakfasts are always a treat too!

Review 37:There was traffic noise but that was due to the windows being in keeping with the property and having a lovely view out on to the town. I expect a room at the back would be quieter but you would lose the outlook.

Review 38:Beautiful four poster room overlooking the Main Street, very comfortable and staff happy to help. Breakfast was gorgeous- perfectly cooked eggs. Would stay again.

Review 39:Very helpful and friendly staff. Tea and home made biscuits in the room and comfortable bed and very tasty veggie breakfast (meat dishes were also available)

Review 40:Parking a problem - you can park on the Main Street on the opposite side where you can leave the car for unlimited time. The side of the road on which the hotel stands is for two hours only. More milk and some biscuits in the room could've made an even better stay!!!!

Review 41:Staff were friendly and helpful. The room at the top of the hotel was magnificent! Four poster with huge bathroom. Luxuries provided. Would definitely recommend!

Review 42:Parking is not so easy - we had to park in a side road approx. 200yds away

Review 43:very friendly welcome and service. My cooked breakfast was my best ever hotel breakfast and I have stayed in thousands of hotels around the world for business. Could not ask for a better location and good value against local competition

Review 44:We had a problem getting the TV in the room to work, fortunately this was not too important to us but may be an issue for others. Regrettably at the time of our stay dinner was not available at the hotel as they were between chefs - a little inconvenient but we knew in advance and had made alternative arrangements.

Review 45:Warm welcome on arrival. Room was very homely, clean and generally offered everything we required. Ian the owner was a charming host when we returned to the bar late evening and in no way made us feel he was anxious to close the bar. The breakfast tables were beautifully set with crisp white table linen and elegant cutlery. The choice and quality of the breakfast itself was excellent.

Review 46:No carpark. It did say free parking but was not very specific. Parking was on the road if you could find a space!

Review 47:Room Free standing bath Breakfast Staff

Review 48:The toilet seat in Windrush was wobbly but I forgot to mention it!

Review 49:I had four or five bags -no problem. I needed to stay until late afternoon - no problem. Friendliness and helpfulness all round and lovely food.

Review 50:There really wasn't anything that I didn't like.

Review 51:The hotel is friendly and luxurious, without ostentation. A wonderful selection of interesting beverages and reading matter, made for a very relaxing lounge in the reception rooms, of an evening. Its central location provided an excellent start and finish to the day and night time activities.

Review 52:The keys were a bit awkward as they were too big to put in our pockets. Also the bedknobs were broken! But it was still a beautiful room!

Review 53:Our room was so pretty and cosy. Very clean, comfortable and had lots of lovely intricate details in there. Would definitely return!

Review 54:Very welcoming, excellent position, Ian and staff were very helpful and friendly. Burford House was full of character and the perfect choice for a special occasion. Would highly recommend this hotel. Superb breakfast to finish our stay too.

Review 55:horrible green fire escape lights shining brightly in our room all night -£190 seemed a bit steep-it shouldnt have been a designated escapet route!! Also building shook whenever a truck went past and woke us up

Review 56:nice bed and breakfast

Review 57:The coffee at breakfast was too weak!!!

Review 58:Staff , decor and facilities lovely Owner obviously takes immense pride in his establishment and was very welcoming. The goodbye letter with the bill was a nice touch.

Review 59:Bathrooms needed updating, needs a new shower and hairdryer was very old fashioned, hardly worked. I am always suspicious of a sheet under a duvet cover, do they change the duvet cover every time a new guest arrives??? I wasn't so sure ?????

Review 60:Lovely character hotel, staff very helpful & friendly. Nice hospitality tray.

Review 61:WiFi does not work. To many noise. The floor is from wood and I could hear always the steps from the neihbours. Breakfast is very poor. The Bull at Burford, just beside is much cheaper and offers a much better breakfast.

Review 62:Room is beatiful. Useless if you cannot sleep properly.

Review 63:Rather over priced for a room and en suite that was in need of some updating, although it did have some good features (window seat and sofa), suppose that is the Cotswolds though! The stay was ruined somewhat by us being woken at 4.30am by a party in the room above us which went on until around 8am despite us complaining to reception. Not what you want when escaping Central London for the weekend hoping for some peace and quiet. The half hearted apology as we paid the next day wasn't really enough to make up for it unfortunately.

Review 64:Good location and decent breakfast albeit for a very limited time frame on a Sunday morning no doubt due to the early 10.30am checkout time.

Review 65:Our room was up some VERY steep stairs. This was no problem for us but for some older but regular travellers (my 82 year old mother for example) the room would have been inaccessible. I'm not sure what would have been the response if we had been her and unable to get to the room: maybe I missed a warning in the hotel literature about this?

Review 66:Burford House is very well located on the Main Street through the town. But this does mean it has no car parking and traffic noise is noticeable until quite late into the night. The furnishings and facilities are good but be aware the restaurant is not open every night and would not be described as cheap. The breakfast was excellent though.

Review 67:The toilet was positioned in quite a tight space in the bathroom. No other dislikes

Review 68:The staff were welcoming, helpful and professional, the room comfortable and full of character. Breakfast was also excellent. The location was ideal for exploring the town.

Review 69:Although parking has always been easy on the street, it's still stressful to turun up and have to park nearby and hustle with little kids and luggage.

Review 70:Fabulous room Southrop bought us back for a second time - big comfy four poster bed and adjoining twin for kids. Feels like a mini suite! Friendly proprietor, Ian makes you feel very welcome.

Review 71:The owner was really welcoming and even though the chef had gone off poorly, he was able to direct us to pubs within walking distance. The cooked breakfast in the morning was excellent our room was perfect and lovely and quite at night - no traffic noise, would defiantly recommend this hotel to friends and family

Review 72:Whole building shabby in and out Bed linen: stained bedspread, worn out blanket with hole in it Room poky. Only 1 window opened, other broken Breakfast on Sunday finished 9 45 V poor value for money

Review 73:position ok but no parking

Review 74:Newly installed cable was spotty - picture came off and on, due to faulty wiring. Proprietor attempted to fix the problem with only temporary results. Toilet, also recently 'fixed' did not always flush correctly. I am guessing that a room fronted by the main road, would be noisy.

Review 75:Excellent service, great breakfast, ideal location. Our garden fronted second story room was quiet. The staff could not have been more helpful. We had dinner at the hotel one night - tasty but expensive.

Review 76:Very clean great accommodation lots of nice little touches

Review 77:Bed was very hard Too much light coming into the room during the night, very hard to sleep

Review 78:The staff, the food & location

Review 79:Great quality hotel in the centre of Burford

Review 80:Dinning Room was closed didn't say when we booked so in my opinion was not a five star hotel so too expensive

Review 83:The noise from the road outside was the only negative.
