Reviews for Barringtons
Review 1:Found duvet too thick and heavy especially with central heating. Disappointed had to dine in bar which at times very noisey.
Review 2:Room 2 very comfortable and good size. Supplies of refreshment excellent as well as toiletries provided and hairdryer. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:The hotel was old world charm with all the modern touches. It was cosy and inviting. I felt very comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best that Ive experienced. Possibly the best scrambled eggs Ive had.
Review 5:Barringtons is a lovely building and the room was very tastefully decorated with all the features you could wish for. The staff were friendly, the restaurant very welcoming and the breakfast was great.
Review 6:The staff and regular customers were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed breakfast in a very nice room and breakfast was good. The bar/restaurant was pleasant and the food very good. We stayed for two nights and ate at Barringtons each night. Our room was large and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.
Review 7:could not find any faults
Review 8:made feel welcome by staff despite them being under pressure covering range of duties. Very enjoyable evening meal, good quality food cooked to perfection. substantail quality breakfast
Review 9:Lots of stairs to get up to the rooms. Difficult for anyone who struggles to walk.
Review 10:Beautiful place. Old rooms with old features and a great team of staff. Lovely breakfast and good for a large group.
Review 11:nothing was wrong at all for us.....
Review 12:we liked the location, the staff were most helpful and our room was great it was perfectly clean and inviting .The breakfast was lovely , everything at Barringtons was all you could wish for a break...
Review 13:Nothing!
Review 14:Location - ideal for visiting Chatsworth Christmas Market. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfy. Good choice of food - beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend.
Review 15:Very convenient, clean, warm comfortable, efficient booking in and checking out, goood size room, modern en-suite, very helpful staff, delicious s[ecial offer dinner
Review 16:It was difficult to get to sleep until after the bar closed due to one door being slammed shut regularly
Review 17:The location was good and the staff were also good.
Review 18:Arranged to meet business colleague at 7.30am & hotel front door was locked & hall way in darkness. Breakfast at 8am is not great for business. No desk / chair in bedroom to work at.
Review 19:Location suited business meeting.
Review 20:We had the large double which was a lovely room and with a bit more space to be able to sit and relax. Our two boys had the twin room. We all slept really well, beds very comfortable. Breakfasts were fantastic, full, full English! I'm afraid we went large! We also had an evening meal as well which was also really good.
Review 21:Fantastic stay, huge room, sofa to relax on, decent desk, strong wifi, friendly staff, really outstanding steak (local butcher), good breakfast (quality toast, LARGE glass for OJ!!!)nice bar/restaurant, large soft towel and quiet nights sleep
Review 22:No dislikes!
Review 23:All I can say is the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was really spacious and very clean, also had a lovely view over park. Evening meal was fantastic, and good value for money. Breakfast were equally as good with every variation you could wish for.
Review 24:All well until we asked for some toast at breakfast and we were very curtly told that it had already been offered, along with sauces, and we had apparently declined the offer! This was totally untrue as we had ordered sauce which duly arrived. The attitude of this member of staff immediately put us off the hotel which, up until that time, had been perfect.
Review 25:Large bed and location for Mstlock.
Review 26:Our Breakfast Waitress who was miserable and spoke very loud, but gave us good service.
Review 27:The special offer meal for two with a bottle of House Wine was excellent. Staff were very welcoming and friendly
Review 28:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast. Could not fault the place.
Review 29:Shower in room 5 was either very hot or cold so spoilt our stay in an otherwise good room. Road noise with some rooms
Review 30:Clean bedroom and bathroom with large comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 31:Nothing to report
Review 32:Great spot for us to stay when visiting family. Comfortable, clean rooms and good deals to be found most of the time. Good breakfast.
Review 33:A bit of empty and business-like feeling / atmoshere, being a quest on holiday.
Review 34:Spacious and clean room. No real noise from traffic at the front, when windows are closed. Good vegetarian breakfast.
Review 35:Shower wasnt very good, difficult to control temperature,
Review 36:Friendly welcome, being shown to our room makes a nice change. Lovely big room, excellent food served by friendly and efficient staff.
Review 37:The location is a little inconvenient as its 2.5 miles outside of Matlock itself . There's a great pub just down the hill which is incredibly cheap though which to be honest removes the need to head back in to Matlock itself .
Review 38:The photos really didn't do the place justice the room really was incredible value for money and came as a massive surprise on arrival.
Review 39:The tables in the dining area had a sticky surface as if they weren't cleaned properly noticed this in dinner and breakfast
Review 40:Book your table for dinner as the food is good but you are not gauranteed a table despite being resident at the hotel.
Review 41:They close after lunch and don't open again until 4 o'clock. When you arrive a bit early, like we did (and another couple) the door is closed and no-one is present. You just have to wait until someone arrives.
Review 42:The location and the room.
Review 43:Unfortunate location on a major junction of a main road, lots of traffic noise. If you need the windows open you won't sleep!
Review 44:Lovely building and very good breakfast.
Review 45:The twin room No4 was situated at the rear of the hotel overlooking the flat roof and the adjoining Whitworth Institute. The weather was particularly warm and the movement of air around the room was limited, which made it stuffy and airless. This was the only criticism I could find.
Review 46:Good hearty breakfasts. Public areas of the hotel were plain furnished but attractive.
Review 47:Nothing really serious but for some strange reason and unusual the small shower room toilet etc had no socket for an electric raser.
Review 48:Room was generally adquate but outlook into an internal quadangle but this had the advantage of giving a quiet room as other rooms lookedout onton busy A6 although this was much less busy between 8pm and 6am. Beds were good , wifi worked in room well and tv via sky was good. Breakfast choice was good and evening meals if required were a reasonable standard and generally good and helpful service.
Review 49:Lack of a decent lounge area to have a drink. More choice on evening menu. Parking very tight and noticed cars parking and then going next door to conference centre.
Review 50:Very good well cooked breakfast Comfortable bed.
Review 51:Room was a bit small and stuffy it would have been good if there was a fan in the room or a thinner sheet as well as the doona especially for summer. Location is a bit too far from the town centre to walk but is 5 minutes drive if you have a car.
Review 52:Rooms were clean and nicely decorated and renovated. Comfortable mattresses and pillows. Good generous breakfast and easy parking.
Review 53:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 54:We have stayed here twice now and we have booked again in August. Lovely breakfast great room and staff. Ten out of ten
Review 55:The food was delicious and very good value for money loved the suet pudding for my evening meal lot's of choices breakfast was lovely as well. We will definitely stay here again very good location for what we wanted to do.
Review 56:No dislikes at all
Review 57:What a warm welcome we received, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. As my partner was leaving very early in the morning a selection of fruits, cereals and juices, including coffee was prepared and left in the breakfast room. Very relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful building with a delightful surrounding area.
Review 58:Can't think of anything negative to say about the place. Could perhaps have had a mini bar of soap or hand wash dispenser at the hand basin rather than the complimentary body wash and I'd have liked a bedside light on each side of the bed ........ but now I'm being really picky!!
Review 59:The room (1) was huge, clean and well appointed, we loved the window seat!! Not a huge menu choice, but superbly cooked and presented - the steak medallions were so good that I had them two nights running, partner had two different fish dishes which earned her (not frequently given) high praise. Breakfast freshly and individually cooked to choice. The shower which others have complained about, just needed putting on its "medium" setting and was then easily adjusted to suit. I don't know where the Canadian guy stayed to give such bad comments but I think he must have been confused as to where he was!!. Yes, it is a pub, and as such has a variety of non-resident customers but there are two quieter "lounge" areas. Book a table in the restaurant for your evening meal rather than the bar if you want a more peaceful dining experience. Ideally located as a base for exploring the Peaks and Chatsworth is just 5-10 minutes drive away. Staff all friendly, informative and accommodating. Free WIFI worked without fault (in contrast to the Crowne Plaza at the NEC which we stayed at the previous night!!). Barringtons is not the Ritz, but if you are remotely in the area then this has to be the place to stay - if you can get in! We'll definitely come back if we are in this neck of the woods again.
Review 60:There was a creaking head board which was a little irritating but nothing major
Review 61:The food was good, the staff were nice and the room very comfortable, we would definitely stay again
Review 62:nothing to dislike.
Review 63:everything,ideally located to explore this beautiful area, great food ,lovely rooms, comfortable beds, very clean, great value for money
Review 64:Electric shower not great. Restaurant closed Sunday night and really nothing else close by. We ended up in Matlock Bath.
Review 65:Big spacious, clean room. Nice views over parkland. Very quiet. good breakfast choices cooked to order.
Review 66:Shower a bit unpredictable. Some aspects need a little maintenance eg windows & paintwork in room - but this didn't detract from a lovely stay
Review 67:Excellent food, friendly staff, huge room and very clean. Wish we'd had more than one night.
Review 68:The weather
Review 69:We loved the room (2) and the furnishings were superb. The bed was comfortable and the cleanliness was 2nd to none. The food was excellent and I have never had such hot breakfasts.Delicious !!!!!!
Review 70:Too far out of Matlock. Bathroom very small. Food not served after 6 pm!
Review 71:Good range of drinks in the room and biscuits. Staff at breakfast very friendly and efficient.
Review 72:There was nothing to complain about at all.
Review 73:Very comfortable, spacious room. Slept well on the comfy bed. Settee was a welcome bonus as we could relax after our days out. Room was spotless and plenty of tea, coffee etc to make a brew.
Review 74:All the staff were most helpful and friendly, the room provided all necessary facilities, clean and beds very comfortable. The quality and choice of food was excellent both at breakfast and dinner. The final bill proved the stay to be terrific value for money.
Review 75:I had superb lunch of roast saddle of lamb and pear frangipani tart, and the cooked breakfast was also superb. Super setting in parkland. Huge room comfy bed, armchair, spotless.
Review 76:The room wasclean a little small ensuite bathroom but when you are only stopping overnight it was fine. Had evening meal at barringtons was fantastic. breakfast was really good. Just outside of matlock which was fine.
Review 77:The room was excellent in all respects. But the bed was even better, large and oh so comfortable. Superb accommodation, food and drink, at very reasonable prices.
Review 78:Dinner was good, but slightly disappointing.
Review 79:Really comfortable beds (We were in the twin). Hearty breakfast. Very friendly and relaxed staff. The rooms vary a lot - some are huge. Travelling with my 8 year old, staff were very accommodating.
Review 80:noisy many doors slamming thought the stay food service very slow (although it was a busy service) evening meal mediocre at best
Review 81:breakfast very good selection helpful staff
Review 82:Good food and drink choice in evening. Excellent breakfast "No Problem" was always response from staff, whatever the request. Danger we'll stay again!!!!!
Review 83:The bar closed early on Sunday and Monday evenings because the hotel was quite quiet. This was only a minor inconvenience to us and totally understandable. I only mention it because it could have been a bit of a disappointment if we'd wanted to stay in the bar until 11pm or so.
Review 84:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The food was very nice and breakfast was truly excellent. We had a really great time on our short break and would definitely stay there again
Review 85:loved every bit about the hotel nd staff were very friendly nd helpful nd will deffo be going again in the near future.would rate this hotel 10/10
Review 86:if any fault at all it needed a none slip mat in the bath.......
Review 87:staff,the room, the location, food all first class defo will be back and highly recommend....
Review 88:There was nothing to dislike but be aware that if you book a Monday stay there is no one there to book you in until 4pm - a mistake that we made, it really was our own fault, as it was on the confirmation but we failed to see it.
Review 89:We last stayed here 10yrs ago when it was called the Whitworth Arms and thought it was very good then. It is now even better, the rooms and bar area have been updated to a high standard and it's very warm and comfortable. We only stayed for one night and met just one staff member (Katie?) who was very friendly and coped admirably with a busy bar and dining area. The meal we had was excellent and very good value, breakfast was also good with more choices than hotels that are far more expensive.
Review 90:The bedroom walls are rather thin and the bed was meant to be deluxe queen but it was two singles pushed together so not very comfy! Not the best nights sleep we've had!
Review 91:Lovely restaurant at the hotel, the food was amazing and the staff were really nice and helpful.
Review 92:The rooms were comfortable The food - which was very ambitious - could have been mediocre - but was very good. A small menu cooked and presented beautifully The staff are friendly and helpful
Review 93:My partner noticed a strange smell ( didn't want to own up to the fact that I just let 1 rip, so I said it was just an old building kind of smell !!!!!! ) I have made this up as there isn't anything of note to complain about.
Review 94:The room was brilliant (Room 1). At a good price with breakfast included. Nice park behind the hotel with play areas for kids. Hotel located perfectly for access to Matlock baths by car.
Review 95:Could benefit from a bath mat to place in the bath when using the shower
Review 96:Great location & plenty of free parking Excellent menu and beautifully cooked food Room (Double Delux) was lovely with plenty of storage. Staff very helpful & friendly.
Review 97:NOWT
Review 98:The food in the restaurant was excellent, fabulous and we want more right now!!!! The hotel is a beautiful old building and kept superbly. We would highly recommend it to everyone
Review 99:We chose this place as it was close to my in-laws, we were very pleased with everything, room, shower facilities, tea and coffee facilities and the breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend as excellent value for money
Review 100:breakfast size wise was good but no choice of healthier options..like no low fat spread or yoghurt etc
Review 101:Large spacious room. Good value options for evening meals. Especially liked the fact that the fan in the bathroom went off when you turned out the light...good if you happen to get up in middle of night...at least it doesn't go on & on!
Review 102:The hotel is situated on a junction of a main road. The hotel has maintained the original windows with a sliding inner window do although very warm and not drafty but noisy and I wouldn't enjoy staying there in the summer when you need the windows open. The carpark is small and not marked so it is a bit of a free for all with everyone badly parked. There would be room for more cars if it was marked. We managed to squeeze in though so no problem. Overall would still stay here again and would recommend to friends so not big problems
Review 103:This hotel is very good value for money. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the pub and rooms have clearly been refurbished recently and are clean and modern with beautiful windows. Dinner was lovely and very reasonably priced. We had a very enjoyable evening. Breakfast was also very good, cooked to order and very punctual. There was unlimited fresh coffee and juice to enjoy.
Review 104:The drinks are expensive, coors was £4.20 a pint and no good if you want early night as its a bar/restaurant below.
Review 105:Handy on the A6, warm, very big comfy bedroom, excellent facilities and big windows and bathroom. food excellent and good atmosphere. Would go again.
Review 106:Although the rest of the hotel was warm, our room was very cold, which made the room feel un-welcoming. Which was a shame. I was told the cleaners had turned down the thermostat outside the bedrooms. This was put right, but it took along time to warm up the room.
Review 107:Log fire in the bar. good selection of food for breakfast. Lovely inexpensive evening meal. Very large bedroom overlooking the front, with large window.
Review 108:Compliments to the chef as the food both at breakfast & evening meal was superb. Chose this hotel as it was close to Darley Dale station for our Sunday lunch on the train.
Review 109:The Waitress serving breakfast possibly does not like mornings, a little grumpy.
Review 110:Location, appearance of building, the staff on the evening shift were friendly, polite and very professional.
Review 111:Parking was difficult, small area. Final check on bathroom cleanliness needed.
Review 112:spacious room, comfortable bed, large TV, free wifi, pleasant and friendly staff, value for money, lovely breakfast
Review 113:The room was large and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful. Position was excellent for attractions. We dined in the hotel every night as the food was so good. Breakfast was to order and delicious.
Review 114:Old historical building but I love history so I was right at home.
Review 115:Most of it was very good, nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and large with everything we needed, very comfortable.
Review 116:Drinks from the bar were very pricey.
Review 117:The window seat in our bedroom was lovely for relaxing after a long day out. The breakfast was first class and the couple of meals that we had in the restaurant during our stay were very good.
Review 118:The rooms were clean and the double bed was very comfy and cozy. The Big Breakfast (included in the price) was the best breakfast I have had in a long time! Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 119:Room was a little cold and the radiator needed bleeding. Most hotels have better than basic TVs selection,so a bigger sky package would be advisable. The duvet had a few dodgy stains on it,which we only noticed on the morning of departure. Shower was poor.
Review 120:Room was spacious and the staff were lovely. Food was very good, particularly breakfast. All in all, decent value for money.
Review 121:No real reception area or facilities, you had to hover at the end of the bar to speak to a member of staff.
Review 122:Basic, but comfortable rooms. Food was of a good standard.
Review 123:Coming in at night we had to pass the pub and it was mainly men and was a bit intimidating. Noisy in the room from these men.
Review 124:The staff were very friendly and polite. The breakfast was excellent. Bathroom lovely and cosy when you get out of the shower.
Review 125:Doors needed a lick of paint & landing carpet a clean & storage for ironing board& put me up bed.
Review 126:Friendly helpful staff, good food, beautiful room & ensuite, comfortable beds.
Review 127:Elegantly decorated guest rooms, a warm and inviting pub, a wood-paneled breakfast room with a fabulous, cooked-to-order breakfast menu top the list of superlatives for Barringtons. Historic inns and hotels can sometimes look and feel a bit tired, Barringtons is fresh, clean and bright. The staff was friendly and seemed devoted to making our overnight stay unforgettably wonderful!
Review 128:Having to leave.
Review 129:We arrived about midday and were delighted that our room was ready as we were on our way to a wedding. The room was huge and extremely comfortable. There was a good choice of breakfast and the food was excellent. The web page told us to expect lound music on a friday night until midnight - we arrived back just after eleven and all was quiet. Perfect.
Review 130:In between Matlock and Bakewell, so if you have no car this could be a bit of a problem with catching buses especially in the evening as they finish quite early.
Review 131:If you like space then ask for a family room, this is massive and overlooks Whitworth park.Breakfasts are well, the best especially the black pudding. Do not think about going else were book the at Barringtons today.
