Forest How Guest House, nestled among the fells of the western Lake District, is a period property right in the heart of Eskdale. Footpaths lead from the house towards Scafell and Great Gable, approximately 15 miles away.
Full Cumbrian breakfasts are included and can be served in the conservatory or in the cosy dining room. Packed lunches can be provided should guests wish to spend the whole day exploring the Lake District National Park.
Rooms at Forest How each have a view over Eskdale, traditionally decorated with carpeted floors and some with exposed wooden beams. Each room has a TV, tea and coffee making facilities and access to free Wi-Fi.
For outdoor enthusiasts the area has many footpaths and bridleways, and guests are just 45 minutes’ drive over the famous Hardknott Pass from popular Windermere.
Other attractions such as Eskdale Golf Course and Muncaster Castle and Gardens are within a 15-minute drive.

Review 1:The feeling of being in a welcoming, homely and comfortable home from home. Nothing was too much trouble for Debbie, the owner, who has developed Forest How Guest House into a very comfortable and friendly venue for her guests.

Review 2:Deborah and John made me feel very welcome. Location was great, and very quite so I slept really well. Lovely watching wild birds and red squirrels feeding over breakfast

Review 5:Location is beautiful. The rooms clean, light with a great outlook. The hosts are attentive and very knowledgeable about the area. They have a particular interest in saving the local red squirrels which are living on their property. Breakfast was fantastic as was the packed lunch. Great pub meal down at the Bower Inn

Review 9:Location in the heart of western lakes, peaceful, quiet, amazing choice for brekkie (inc veggie), not too many tourists around this part of the lakes, comfortable beds, great pub walking distance. Great mountain hikes nearby.

Review 39:Loved the big windows that offer incredible views of surrounding nature, the staff was so kind and lovely, felt like home, rooms clean with nice furniture and they even have squirrels and birds in their garden! Makes for a great entertainment during breakfast :)

Breakfast was served in the conservatory which enable you to have a view of the local wildlife, which included numerous red squirrels. Really felt at home here and would definitely reccomend anyone to stay here, a Hidden Gem!!!

Review 41:It was a truly beautiful place to stay. If you enjoy wildlife and walking its perfect. I woke up to see the deer in the orchard outside our bedroom window, a wonderful start to our weekend. Watching the red squirrels and different types of birds whilst having breakfast [ a fantastic Full English] was wonderful. Extremely friendly owners, dog friendly. The stars are amazing to look at . We are definitely going again and have recommended it to our friends. 10 out of 10 from us.

Review 44:Hosts Deb and John very easy-going and helpful with good tips even for seasoned walkers who knew the area! Breakfasts truly wonderful and catered for all diets. Main course: choice of full English, smoked haddock, kippers, porridge (best I have ever had!) All cooked to perfection. Great views of red squirrels, jays and many garden birds from breakfast room, plus deer in garden on one occasion. Bed was comfy. Room smallish but fine and we had our dog with us who Deb and John made a great fuss of! Nice view of garden and countryside from our room. En suite shower room modern and spotless. Walks right from the door: low and high level. Cosy guest room with roaring log fire each evening. Fresh milk available if you want it. Can take own alcoholic drinks there. Decent pub food nearby at George IV and Brook House Inn. No piped music during breakfast, just peace and friendly chats.

Review 46:The guest house owners were very helpful in suggesting places to visit, very friendly and treated more than family than strangers. We travelled with 2 dogs and they were also made welcome, full use of the garden, brilliant breakfast and to see so much wildlife in the garden was the icing on the cake for us. We spent 4 nights at Forest How and will definately be booking again, very highly recommended.

Review 47:Fabulous breakfasts with a garden full of wild birds and a view of the peaceful Dale. The gardens are peaceful spot in the countryside and two pubs are a short walk away. For those hiking there is also the advantage of a heated room specifically for drying out wet gear.

Review 50:We had a warm welcome with tea and home made cake in the guests' sitting room. Breakfast was excellent and the bonus was looking out at red squirrels and a wide variety of birds feeding just outside. We were very well looked after altogether.
