Reviews for The Fox Inn

Review 1:Cobwebs in room & edges of carpet dirty. Evening meal stone cold but landlord waived charge.

Review 2:Lovely location with authentic charm Breakfast was good

Review 3:A little out of the way with not a lot to do. There was a local book with planned walks but it is a little out of date and we couldn't follow the directions. Not ideal as a base as you had to drive some distance for areas of interest.

Review 4:Room and bathroom were a good size and beautifully decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely as was the bar food we had.

Review 5:Very friendly, nice clean rooms and helpful staff. Dinner was lovely and location perfect for exploring the Cotswolds. Came with two friends and thought it was excellent value.

Review 6:Although our evening meal at the fox inn was very enjoyable and the atmosphere was pleasant, we felt the food was a little overpriced.

Review 7:The room was beautiful, very clean and comfortable. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate facilities were excellent and topped up daily. The staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent and flexible, nothing was too much trouble...and the view from the breakfast room was just wonderful, a lovely way to start each day. The inn is located in a beautiful area, not far from other Cotswold towns. A delightful mini break away which we would highly recommend.

Review 8:Overall apart from the room itself the pub and grounds were looking a little 'tired and uncared for'. The food on offer was disappointing -definately overpriced - could only be described as 'average at best' in terms of presentation, quality and portion size. No Wifi available in the room and no mobile phone reception.

Review 9:Room and en suite , were clean , bright and nicely decorated. .Lovely quiet rural location just off the main A40. Pleasant staff.

Review 10:Room cold, no heating in bathroom. Noise from downstairs restaurant and next door bedroom. Hairdryer only on request. Accommodation and food over priced.

Review 11:View from bedroom window

Review 12:Perhaps needed a hairdryer in the room.

Review 13:Very nice rooms at this very old English pub with a lovely riverside setting. Staff very friendly as was the resident dog! Fantastic cooked breakfast - particularly the sausages. Deluxe room was a good size with a large bathroom and huge shower.

Review 14:we did not like the breakfast. And we were welcomed with the question if we could sleep in 1 room with 4, because other people needed our second room, so not a feeling of being utterly welcome

Review 15:location, parking and the pub has a nice quaint atmosphere. Beds good and room clean and cosy.

Review 16:It would have been nice to eat in the restaurant but it was closed ate in the pub which was perfectly fine just there were still drinkers at the bar who had been in there from the afternoon so it would have made an nicer ambience if the dinning had been a bit more exclusive.

Review 17:Shower dripped all night, radiator in bathroom leaked so we had to turn that off and we were above the door to the bar which sounded like a bomb going off every time someone came in or went out.

Review 18:Friendly staff, clean modern room, lovely breakfast..

Review 19:Had an amazing 2 day break at the fox inn and the landlord Paul was a true gent who served amazing food and advised on which villages to go visit in close proximity by car

Review 20:The food we felt was expensive not really value for money, we had booked for two nights but they had forgotten our second night booking and the meal that night was not good, fish fie was very dry, and belly pork was one big layerof fat and one layer of meat, not crispy, although the flavour was good, we weren't asked if we enjoyed it as other people were. Seemed short of staff.

Review 21:The room was very comfortable and lovel and warm, it was the first cold weekend of the season. Location was good, very easy to travel out and explore the Cotswolds

Review 22:Nowhere particularly comfortable to sit outside. Outside areas untidy and neglected. overall overpriced for the standard provided.

Review 23:In a beautiful spot by the river. Good breakfast. Clean room and bathroom.

Review 24:The blues and rock n roll festival outside our room until 11pm every night which we were not told about prior to arrival. The stage blocked the lovely view which was the reason we chose to stay here.

Review 25:The location

Review 26:The meal we had was very average. The same salad appeared with everything(including tinned sweetcorn!) and it was hard to find much salmon in the fish cakes. The room was very small for the price we paid and the bathroom was extremely compact.

Review 27:Lovely position but no view of river from room, very quiet and lovely cotton sheets. Friendly, attentive staff.

Review 28:The bedroom fittings were a mixture of high quality woodwork, accompanied by poor quality electrical fittings. The rooms were cold, without any emergency heating available.

Review 29:The hotel had the traditional Cotswold character stonework, with lovely gardens and riverside location. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. The breakfast room had a beautiful mural.

Review 30:The staff were all most helpful, friendly and efficient. My mother was with us and had the Bridal Suite because of the walk-in shower. However, I did think that the room was lacking a comfortable seat - she ended up sitting on the edge of the bed to watch the television.

Review 31:The rest of the Inn was not enough taken care off and not too clean. The river behind was not clean and it smelled.

Review 32:Convinient location to visit the area. Rooms were nice and clean.

Review 33:Garden patio Needs sprucing up seating tatty and general clean req meals overpriced, owner had take it or leave it attitude

Review 34:our room was large nicely dressed and large bathroom , location by stream and overlooking field pleasuable

Review 35:Very, very drunk and loud locals singing and shouting at the top of their voices until 12.30. Luckily, we weren't too bothered as we were up late but it could ruin peoples stay. Also, people left the bar and went outside because of one very drunk individual singing every song that came on the juke box as loud (and badly) as he could. Got the impression he was a local !

Review 36:Location was good for what we needed and was a nice country pub.

Review 37:Tables for breakfast a bit sticky - like a lot of pubs!

Review 38:Very nice quiet location by the Windrush river. Friendly staff and great country pub atmosphere. Good pub food and Nice breakfast.

Review 39:We had a lovely stay meeting up with family and enjoyed the concert at Blenheim. Very weloming and didn't want to go so soon, especially missing Chester the friendly dog and the grounds were beautifdul, Thanks to all.Jen x

Review 40:Nothing negative, Wifi is a bit patchy, but hey have a natter in the bar or sit in the garden, those e-mails get to you!

Review 41:Rooms very comfortable and stay cool even in the hottest weather. Food very good, beer good. The landlord Paul very friendly. They like dogs :-)

Review 42:Shabby paintwork and dirty carpet in bedroom. Couldn't get access to plug for fridge to switch it on. Restaurant all very overpriced for very poor soggy fish and chips.

Review 43:Location good - quiet spot.

Review 44:Eating out in the Cotswolds is, in general, quite expensive. Although, saying that, we certainly enjoyed it.

Review 45:Exactly what you would expect for a typically English country pub. Stunning countryside & beautiful location. Very friendly & helpful staff. Especially loved Chester!!

Review 46:Some outside areas close to the building were dirty and needed a clean up. The old seat facing the river was badly broken and should be repaired or replaced.

Review 47:The room, the bed, the garden, the breakfast. The easy going atmosphere. Dog friendly. The staff.

Review 48:Bridal suite too close to the outdoor customers...a lot of noise could be heard in the room. The walkway to the room is marred by the leaking vent on the roof Some of the service in the bar / dining was a little rushed and frantic...but only with certain staff members. WIFI not available in the room!

Review 49:Lovely location Room was great Good food Some of the staff were very helpful and welcoming

Review 50:The bed was so uncomfortable (springs poking through type uncomfortable) that if I hasn't been so tired I would have left. Also the chairs in the restaurant seemed to be constructed of random pieces of wood. One of our party tore her trousers on a nail in the chair. So I think some new furniture would be in order !!

Review 51:The food was good, particularly the breakfast

Review 52:wonderful place in the countryside, beautiful fields and lovely river. get perfect view from the room window. great place for relaxing. 10 mins drive to most cotswold towns.

Review 53:I would have liked more healthy options for the evening meal - it was difficult to make a choice that wasn't full of v fattening ingredients of cooking methods. Just a bit disappointed in the food

Review 54:The friendliness of the staff - Michelle? in the bar and the lady in the morning and a man who helped me downstairs with my case.

Review 55:Staff and resident pooch were so friendly. The food was delicious and the location couldn't be better. Nothing to fault here. Hope to be back in the summertime.

Review 56:Only slight negative was the slow response of the Wi-Fi, more than likely due to the inn's location on the edge of the Cotswolds, so not sure if this can be improved.

Review 57:The choice of food just right and clearly an excellent chef.

Review 58:The reason for the lower rating is that the radiator in the bathroom leaked and consequently it was switched off. The look on the door was faulty and difficult exit room.

Review 59:Food good, service good, room very quiet and comfortable, .Staff very friendly & helpful.

Review 60:Loved our stay at the Fox, we like proper country pubs with good beer, food and locals and this delivered on all of those (only had breakfast, which was great. Bar food looked good, so long as the taste justified the prices). Room overlooked the river and countryside beyond Have booked to return.

Review 61:There was a bit of confusion whilst booking as we wanted to stay on Christmas Day. However, once we contacted Booking.com and explained, this was sorted very quickly.

Review 62:The rooms were very well equipped and extremely comfortable. The location of the b&b is great, nice and peaceful situated right on the river which you overlook whilst having breakfast. We stayed here on Christmas Day and in comparison to the other accommodations available in the area, this was the most reasonably priced. I would definitely say the rate + breakfast is worth the money. There is a very cute dog so if you're dog friendly, I would recommend The Fox Inn.

Review 63:We loved everything about the Fox Inn. Paul and Nick and all the staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. My daughter loved having the pub dog Chester around and we even took him on our walks round the village!! Our room was amazing, like a little loft room and even had its own balcony overlooking Windrush river. Would be great to come back in the summer and sit out and chill.

Review 64:Hot water failed and access to the rooms a bot awkward. Priced a bit high for what it was

Review 65:Great location next to the Windrush river with views on to it and meadows from the restaurant. Comfortable rooms, food good

Review 66:We spent 2 nights at The Fox and the food was excellent. Paul and his staff were very friendly and helpful and we definitely go there again. We cannot fault it

Review 67:Insects in the room, family room has got stairs landing and NO BABY gates, very low ceiling. Family room not suitable for families, but would be great for couples.

Review 68:great food and room views

Review 69:Were kept awake till 12.30am by a television that was so loud we could hear every word in our room, but couldn't work out where it was coming from. Eventually realised it was from the bar downstairs, where one of the members of staff was watching it, oblivious that it was so loud. He turned it down once we went down to the bar, but we were awoken by it again early the next morning. Bit of a shame as it spoiled a lovely stay.

Review 70:Beautiful location, friendly staff, lovely building, good beer, nice breakfast and comfortable room

Review 71:Place generally untidy, broken glass on step outside, strong dog smell on stairs, large untidy pub dog laying on sofa in dining room and walking round dining room while we were eating, on passing the dining room from the outside after breakfast I noticed the dog walking on the chairs while licking the plates on the table that other diners had left, clearing up what they'd left - health and hygiene issue here?

Review 72:Bedroom very clean and well appointed, good size bathroom, good quality fittings, comfortable bedroom

Review 73:The pub dog which barked from 1am - 4am non stop. The bed was in dire need of a mattress.... Worse sleep ever!!!!

Review 74:The room 'looked' great Shower was great Staff were accomodating with a late dinner

Review 75:Great food, lovely room and staff good fun. Relaxed atmosphere. Busy weekend as the Foxfest was on over bank holiday Hog Roast, BBQ and normal menu available. Reasonable prices.

Review 76:I can honestly our stay at The Fox Inn was just wonderful! The staff and the locals were.all friendly and made us all feel very welcome even during our short stay. The cooked breakfast and evening meals were all great. We all left feeling so relaxed as it was also in such a beautiful setting next to The Wind Rush River. We will definitely all be back for another visit.

Review 77:Double bed was two singles pushed together so not comfortable. Our room's decor was a bit tired. This is a pub which allows dogs but one sitting on the sofa in the breakfast room is not a great idea.

Review 78:The Fox is in the most lovely location on the river. Breakfast was very good and staff most helpful. Evening meal also enjoyable but pricy

Review 79:Didn,t feel very friendly.Staff not warm.We felt a bit proccessed.

Review 80:The breakfast was very good.food of the menu was just o.k.and rather expensive.Location was bautifull.Accomodition was very comfortable.

Review 81:The setting of the inn is beautiful, with the River running along the side visited by ducks, swans and a kingfisher, the lawn with picnic tables and the pond with some interesting wildlife including dragonflies and frogs. It was always quiet, never struggled to get a seat inside or outside no matter what the weather. Breakfast service was always great too, even let us have some bread to feed to the ducks. The connectivity to local towns is great as well, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-water, Batsford and Burford were some of the lovely places to visit.

Review 82:Sloppy service. Tasteless food.

Review 83:Clean modern room

Review 84:The location was very nice even at this time of year. Staff very pleasant. Good breakfast.

Review 85:Food and alcohol was a bit expensive. No other complaints

Review 86:Excellent location & very helpful staff. Amazing breakfast looking over the river.

Review 87:its a wee bit difficult to find especially in the dark!

Review 88:very rural and peaceful location.

Review 89:To expensive for the type of room and facilities of the hotel. In the middle of nowhere.

Review 90:Breakfast

Review 91:Emergency green lighting in the room when all lights were out, was very bright!

Review 92:Room was cold , towel rail didn't work . Heating banged madly - frightening !

Review 93:Food and beer

Review 94:All good

Review 95:Room comfortable and tastefully decorated. Staff excellent. Peaceful - really good nights sleep. Food ecellent. Lots of toiletries

Review 96:Pub areas downstairs need a serious clean / facelift!

Review 97:Characterful old pub / inn. Rooms looked recently re-furbished to a good standard.

Review 98:Mushrooms.

Review 99:The duvet! Breakfast: food great, breakfast staff could not have been more accommodating; view over the Windrush - perfect!

Review 100:River side location, ambience and good food

Review 101:Nothing really.

Review 102:Very nice staff which were accomodating and helpful.

Review 103:Ideal for a long weekend break in an unspoilt part of the country. The bedroom and bathroom were particularly good.

Review 104:Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food Wonderful position overlooking the river with large peaceful garden.

Review 105:Lovely room with great view of the river, very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast, plentiful with very good quality ingredients.

Review 106:Great location.

Review 108:Charming Location Owner was great host that helped us out with local things to see and do Very relaxing

Review 109:Location, staff, beer, the circus

Review 112:Nothing

Review 113:Loved the location by the river

Review 114:We like this place and have stayed on 3 previous occasions and are planning a return stay next year.

Review 119:Beautiful location, pretty little inn

Review 120:Good value and good traditional food friendly service and beautiful garden.

Review 121:We loved the location and the staff were charming.
