Reviews for The Bull At Burford

Review 1:Excellent location, right in the middle of Burford and also central to the Cotswolds. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Would definately visit again.

Review 2:having to sit upstairs in the residents lounge with no bar, and having to go up and down stairs to get a drink on new years eve, whilst staff occupied the bar, and this was from 11.15.

Review 3:food was excellant, but bar could have stayed open a little longer for residents

Review 4:The bed was uncomfortable and the room rather cramped.

Review 5:The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent. The staff were courteous, helpful and well trained. A good ambience

Review 6:traffic noise if your room is at the front but not too bad.

Review 7:this hotel really did exceed our expectations. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff and great food.. Very comfortable. Hope to visit again.

Review 8:we had stayed here before and had a wonderful experience but was disappointed with the bathroom we had been given this time the window was dirty and the floor behind the sink was not clean

Review 9:Possible wider selection of bed pillows in room

Review 10:Very pleasant, polite and helpful staff. Staff also very patient with hard of hearing guest's. Food, very good.

Review 11:Dripping from the ceiling in room 2 when raining; but hey it is a 400 year old building! We were offered an alternative room and told the roof had been repaired the last week but obviously the fault had not been resolved.

Review 12:Friendly, helpful staff and lovely food

Review 13:Historic building. Decor very appropriate and attractive. Staff very helpful and friendly. Parking in back was tight... But, good to be close and convenient. Breakfast was excellent. Bed was comfortable. Room with bath very nice.

Review 14:Lovely historic hotel in prime position on Burford High Street.Everything about it superb.Staff all very friendly and helpful.Enjoyed delicious evening meal in restaurant.Rooms very cosy and comfortable .Food for breakfast excellent whether you decided on continental or full English .We couldn't fault it and will definitely be back.

Review 15:Lovely hotel

Review 16:Staff quarters above our room, quite noisy at night, moving furniture and banging doors. Noisy guest next door, came back extremely drunk from a wedding shouting and swearing.

Review 17:Lovley spacious room, clean and full of history. really friendly staff and wonderful breakfast. Great location.

Review 18:Booked a "small double" expecting just the room to be small but the bed seemed smaller than a normal double. It could have been made clear that the bed was also small and maybe that was my mistake but I'm not sure so please check before booking this size room.

Review 19:Great breakfast. Nice location.

Review 20:I guess we got the last room, it was a bit small, with sloping ceilings, and felt rather cramped. I doubt it was the room David Cameron stayed in!

Review 21:Very pleasant staff, and quirky & charming hotel. We had an excelling dinner there too, try the Dover sole.

Review 22:Parking was typical of very popular small hotels but acceptable to most people.

Review 23:food excellent and exciting variety. staff professional but friendly at the same time. Clean and modern hotel in historic building

Review 24:Are these the friendliest hotel staff in the country? Perhaps! Super-helpful and welcoming, to my dog and to me. Beautiful old hotel in middle of gorgeous town.

Review 25:The staff was really friendly and helpful, the room was clean and with all sorts of facilities. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was excellent, fresh and cooked to order. Our stay cannot be faulted in any way!

Review 26:The car parking was alittle difficult with very limited spaces. I feel this was glossed over in the details.

Review 27:The Staff, Food & Room. The 2 young guys who fronted the operation whilst we were there were first class. We got talking to Corey in the bar one evening, and having employed people in business ourselves found him to be a very rare talent these days, and feel he has great prospects & future if he pursues a career in hospitality, or any other industry he chooses.

Review 28:Room was very hot and aircon was loud. Second night we slept with the bathroom window open instead of having aircon on and slept a lot better.

Review 29:Stayed with a baby and 2 dogs and had a lovely time. Staff were very friendly and rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 30:creaky floorboards. Our room was a little small but we did choose a junior room.

Review 31:perfectly pleasant, quite quaint. Good value compared to others in area. very friendly and helpful staff

Review 32:The bed wasn't very comfortable and dinner at the restaurant was a bit disappointing for the price (fridge cold olives for starters and very overcooked pasta for main).

Review 33:The staff were very attentive and friendly, the whole place had a lot of charm and character, breakfast was delicious with lots of choice, was a good base for exploring the cotswolds. Did a lovely 2.5 hour walk from Burford to the Barringtons and back as suggested by the Bull.

Review 34:The only slight problem was tight parking - Burford is very busy and the hotel parking spaces few (but they can't do anything about it and were helpful).

Review 35:Beautiful old building, friendly staff and a giant breakfast.

Review 36:The location is right in the middle of the high stgreet whcih is ideal. We were upgraded to a four poster bedroom which was really lovely. Breakfast offered a good selection... lovely staff and would stay again.

Review 37:Car parking is a bit limited, but OK. In summer period (even autumn) the duvet was too hot. Sheet and thin blankets would be more flexible.

Review 38:Excellent location for visiting the Coswolds. Very attentive and polite staff - sensible prices and very good b'fast choices.

Review 39:We could not fault The Bull Inn in any way.

Review 40:Staff were so kind and friendly.Owner was "hands on"and a very decent person. It was very clean and bedrooms were really comfortable.Superb breakfasts served by owner, very civilised ,we were sad to leave beautiful Burford, and this great find.

Review 41:There is very little parking on site and you need to be early to get a space!

Review 42:Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. The food was delicious for evening meal and breakfast.

Review 43:The wife of the owner who manned the desk and hovered at breakfast could not crack a smile and put a down atmosphere over the whole experience which was such a shame on an otherwise lovely hotel.

Review 44:The bar and general staff were excellent.

Review 45:Our room was a little small, not unacceptably so for a short stay, but it would not be ideal for a longer one

Review 46:The location was fabulous in Burford's picture book Main Street, staff were unfailingly helpful and accommodating, and dogs are welcomed rather than tolerated

Review 47:Every member of staff were professional friendly and seemed to enjoy their role in whatever capacity they were employed in The food was excellent and the surroundings were cosy and comfortable this was a lovely experience

Review 48:Managed to get last parking space at back of hotel -could be tricky to park at a busier time. Bed was just long enough for a tall person; for someone over, say, 6ft 2in it would be wise to ask for a room with a longer bed.

Review 49:Superb location in middle of high street. Hotel of character with interesting history. Excellent evening meal and breakfast

Review 50:Parking is a very big problem, mainly due to the tourist trade. Parking almost impossible on the Main Street during the day, only a vey tight space at the back of the building for hotel guests

Review 51:Overall a very pleasant experience

Review 52:We had a small fan in the room as they were quite warm which didn't work very well could maybe do with a bit bigger & better quality one ,but that was the only thing as everything else was brilliant !!

Review 53:The staff were all very friendly ,helpful and courteous .We took our pet dog and they were brilliant made a real fuss of him . We would definitely recommend and stay here again !! Our stay was lovely and relaxing!!

Review 54:Wasn't worth the money in respect of the package I was on. Seems to be a trend amongst all hotels, they wil take your money wether you are having breakfast or not !!!! No room for negotiating. Overpriced in some aspects, had to send my food back three times and they still couldn't get it right, not what you need after spending the best part of a day travelling !!!! Car park small and tight, prone to a car being pranged.

Review 55:Rooms well kept and furnished, liked the WiFi and the Sky Box in the room, nice to relax in the residents lounge too after a hard day at the office !!! Reception quite helpful and accommodating.

Review 56:I choose Smoked salmon with scrambled egg for cooked breakfast which was served all scrambled ! I would have expected it to be sliced salmon with the scrambled egg served separate . The rest of the breakfast and service was excellent

Review 57:Very polite , happy and helpful staff

Review 58:Only six parking places for a fifteen plus room hotel but plenty of parking close by .

Review 59:Fresh home cooked food and the staff could not do enough for us .

Review 60:Thought the water in basin was cold but eventually found coloured indicator on tap was wrong way around. Polishing brass door plates and ornaments would have lifted the look of the hotel, especially the bar area.

Review 61:Excellent attention from staff and the food was wonderful. Bed linen changed frequently and bedroom/bathroom kept clean. I was at the back of the hotel, was quiet and I slept well.

Review 62:A super stay and excellent customer care and the staff made sure i was happy and made me a packed breakfast as i was up early and would miss breakfast at the hotel. I wish all B&B were this good.!!!.

Review 63:The hot water tap kept coming off therefore water gushing everywhere. Had to turn stop cock off overnight & back on for morning shower. Arrived late so only young lad on the desk who couldn't do anything about it

Review 64:Perfect as was filming at a nearby location & needed a clean comfy room for the night. I wasn't able to have my inc breakfast as left too early....would stay here again

Review 65:The bed was a little bit hard.

Review 66:I really liked staying in such an historical building. It has loads of character. The restaurant was excellent and the breakfast terrific

Review 67:Bed not long enough for anyone who is tall. We are both under 5'6" & feet touching the end of the bed!!!

Review 68:Excellent staff& their smiling & helpful attitude.

Review 69:room was very warm and noisy at the back of the hotel over the kitchens. Unable to open window due to insects from outside.

Review 70:the staff were excellent and the breakfast was the best we have ever had!

Review 71:No bad experience at all! On the contrary! Now, some people may need to know that the beds, being quite old, are also rather short - not a problem if you are of normal height, but basketball players be aware ...

Review 72:The staff were all very friendly, helping as best as they can, and always smiling. We also liked the age of the building, with its floors somewhat uneven, giving it a unique cachet.

Review 73:We overheard the manager telling off members of staff in front of the guests. (1st stay). On the 2nd stay everything was fine, - so we put it down to stress! Otherwise, the manager was very solicitous of our care. The stairs were a bit of a challenge because of the nature of the hand-rails.

Review 74:a) the helpful informality, and b) the way our bank key which I had dropped was retained on one side for our return visit.

Review 75:We had a room in the newer section on the first night which was great, on the following 2 nights our room was at the front of the building. This was older and the bathroom was old and quite shabby and the room was extremely noisy at night. Not worth the money it cost on the 2nd and 3rd nights!

Review 76:Location was great for touring the Cotswolds area. The staff were friendly and helpful (especially COURAGE).

Review 77:The Bull is a lovely old building but updated to modern requirements. The breakfast was superb - I have never had haggis AND black pudding for breakfast before - and there is a bar with a very reasonable draught beer.

Review 78:Bed was a bit soft.

Review 79:Staff were charming and helpful. Bedroom was well appointed and just right for one night. Meal was really well presented and delicious. All in all, excellent value for money.

Review 80:The bedroom furniture was cluttered with various bits and pieces of literature magazines etc so there was nowhere you could put your bits and pieces. The evening meal was spoilt by bone in rabbit terrine and medallione of venison had quite a lot of sinew. The breakfast was overcooked except the egg which still had runny white by the yolk. The mushrooms were so shrivelled they were inedible, Not what you would expect from this hotel. Having stayed there previously and had really good food this was so dissappointing.

Review 81:The Location. The evening staff.

Review 82:Service is friendly and attentive. My room was a "small double" but was in fact adequately large with an efficient bathroom. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 83:Steps down to bathroom, reception feels a bit betwixt & between, a little more menu choice for dinner would be good, car park is small & tight

Review 84:Location, food, staff

Review 85:Not enough cold water pressure to mix with hot for shower so had bath instead. Didn't mention it on checkout but maybe should have in case they could do anything.

Review 86:Helpful, friendly staff, excellent food, all ages welcome (I'm old and travelled solo but saw all ages in the dining room), charming old building, nice outdoor dining when weather permitted. On high street so easy for shops.

Review 87:Room well appointed, though on the small size, clean and tastefully furnished. Complimentary tea, coffee and still and sparkling water. Excellent breakfast was served by a very friendly and efficient waitress who offered suggestions regarding places to explore.

Review 88:Uncomfortable bed, metal buttons poking through Poor bathroom facilities ( superior room), no bathrobes, stiff towels. Shabby in places both room and some communal areas.Poor quality furniture. Sachet Nescafé.uht milk off. Management could've presented in a more friendly manner.

Review 89:Great location and a property packed with history. Excellent breakfast choices, the hot option including black pudding and haggis. Waiting staff friendly. Great patisserie / cereal range. Good juices. Good TV. Quirky building , beams and up tilting of gradient to bathroom.

Review 90:Our room was very hot as the extractor from the kitchen was located outside our window. The window was fastened up so we couldn't let in fresh air. The air con was good it was difficult to sleep with this on as it was noisy.

Review 91:The location of the Bull was perfect with plenty of good shops and pubs around. The breakfast was excellent we couldn't have asked for more! A fabulous selection of food.

Review 92:Place is a bit tired. We asked for tea at the end of our meal which did not come but were charged for it and also charged for an extra dessert!

Review 93:location was excellent.

Review 94:being told we weren't on records after we had booked weeks ago The honeymoon suite bed was very very lumpy and needs replacing g

Review 95:being upgraded because our room was double booked

Review 96:The appearance of the room. Very poor in terms of quality of decor and fixtures and fiitings in general.Too expensive for what was offered

Review 97:The evening meal in restaurant. Staff smart and pleasant

Review 98:The staff at this hotel were all excellent, anticipating our every requirement, nothing was too much trouble for them. Exactly what you want from a hotel. Plus comfortable rooms and a great restaurant. Excellent value for money & strongly recommended!

Review 99:Prices in the restaurant were a bit high...we ate at other hotel pubs each night. Parking is very limited in the hotel lot...but we did manage to park on the street right out front 2 nights...

Review 100:The staff are amazing..every one! Could not be more friendly and accommodating...the hotel is well kept with modern facilities but still has the old charm of a 1475 coach house. The location is perfect in the center of town within walking distance to all the lovely shops and a short drive to other Cotswold villages. The hotel pub and restaurant are very cozy and the included breakfast is above average...and again the staff are attentive and friendly!

Review 101:No problems with the hotel. Parking was a bit of a problem at lunchtime on Sunday, but this was easily overcome later in the day.

Review 102:Our stay was all too brief, but we will definitely return. We would like to recommend The Bull & it's staff to anyone considering a stay here. The staff were absolutely fantastic, very helpful. Luxurious breakfast was very good.

Review 103:Lovely welcome from owners. Gorgeous hotel and we loved our room with the four poster bed .Breakfast was lovely shame we couldn't stay longer as we would have loved to try the restaurant one evening . Would stay again ! Highly recommend !!

Review 104:Nice quirky hotel, hidden lounge on first floor was nice, altogether a very enjoyable stay. I think we will be returning in the future & have already recommended hotel to others.

Review 105:Cannot say there was anything we didn't like or didn't enjoy....was very satisfied with everything so cannot criticise or complain

Review 106:Location...perfect...comfort...perfect...staff...spot on....value for money...one very happy couple...meal very good...very very satisfied

Review 107:No guest computer and no access to phone line in room. Mobile phone signal very poor in area, and I had had an accident driving there so needed to do a lot of sorting out, but difficult with no signal, computer access or phone line in room.

Review 108:Location excellent

Review 109:Chilly bathroom!

Review 110:Lovely old inn, lots of character. Friendly staff, Receptionist carried our bags up. Lovely four poster bed and the most wonderful breakfast!

Review 111:Food was disappointing on the Friday night although the proprietor refunded the cost of the steak.Breakfast was disappointing as only Smokey bacon available.

Review 112:The only disappointment was that during our stay, the restaurant and bar were shut so we couldn't get a nightcap.

Review 113:The welcome from staff and the general quality of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable - would certainly stay again.

Review 114:There was nothing I did not like, and I think the friends who were with me would agree.

Review 115:The dinner in the warm, cosy, peaceful restaurant was perfect for our group. Relaxed and delicious. The sheets were also outstandingly comfortable.

Review 116:Warm comfortable room, lovely and peaceful with a great bed. breakfast included a full English plus cold meats, cereals, fresh fruit, nuts, several jams/marmalades and croissants.

Review 117:I forgot to leave my room key and they forgot to ask for it. Probably to do with leaving quite early. They chased me for this. I explained in an email that My Mother had been taken ill and I would post the key as soon as I could obtain a padded envelope. Unfortunately I spent most of the following weeks at the hospital over the Christmas period as my Mother was dying. She passed away on 27th December. The staff were rude on email, showed no compassion for my circumstances and charged my card for the loss of key without my authorisation and any formal agreement contract. Following my complaint this has since been refunded. I would never stay there again.

Review 118:The service whilst staying there was reasonable.

Review 119:Major gripe - Hotel, including our room - was chilly - no log fire in resident's lounge. I know it's an old building but not what you want on a winter break Not enough staff serving at breakfast and do not understand why they do not get bread for their white toast from Huffkins. Our room at the front of the building wasn't v soundproof. They did provide earplugs though Don't want to make it sound awful - just didn't live up to my expectations

Review 120:Staff very helpful, great location, room and bathroom immaculately clean.

Review 121:Charming, friendly hotel on the high street in historic building- great to stay in a spot where there's been an inn since the C15th. The food is excellent- superb breakfasts; we also enjoyed an excellent evening meal.

Review 122:The staff were very accommodating. The wake up call was on time as was the taxi ordered by the staff. A brilliant stay, thank you! I shall be back soon.

Review 123:having to leave !

Review 124:The room was beautifully and tastefully furnished although it was a" small " double it was a very good size There were several little extras provided like tea making tray kettle and bottled water ironing board iron --it was very cosy

Review 125:Expensive in comparison to usual stays in 4 star hotels, £110 in a small double with breakfast is more than would be paid normally. Car parking around the back of the property not very identified and the breakfast would be better if the juice was self served.

Review 126:Good location with a friendly welcome, nice room and splendid breakfast.

Review 127:Nothing at all.

Review 128:Everything! Good location. Very Friendly helpful staff. Clean. Food (we only had breakfast) which was excellent and a variety of options to suit ' I would imagine' anyone. All in all we had a good stay.

Review 129:Our room was a small double and we were happy for a one night stay butif staying longer we would ask for larger and I am sure we will stayagain. At £70 a night with breakfast it was very good value

Review 130:Location ,friendly staff cleanliness excellent food .The breakfast isamazing with so much choice. Would thoroughly recommend

Review 131:Shower in bathroom was either red hot or cool and it wouldn't stabilise. Also the cooked breakfast was only ok.

Review 132:Loved the building, hospitality and location. Rooms were very nice and warm.
