Reviews for Maison d'Hôtes de l'Evêché
Review 1:No credit cards here, cashola only! Not prominent on booking site or reservation confirmation email.
Review 2:Interior was like an art gallery and the patio offered spectacular views.
Review 3:Nice breakfast in a balcony with beautiful flowers and plans. So relaxing! The view of the city from the window is splendid. The guesthouse is decorated like a gallery with lots of paintings and nice decorations (coz the owner lady was formerly the owner of a gallery).
Review 4:Parking was difficult and the house is reached by a very narrow street. Parking had to be some distance from the property. You need to carry enough euros to pay for the accomodation as the hosts will not accept payment with any type of card.
Review 5:Interesting house in a wonderful location in the old town. Easy to explore the town on foot. Charming hosts.
Review 6:This is a B&B and does not take anything but cash for final payment
Review 7:The location was so beautiful. High up, looking over the city on a lovely lane of beautiful old buildings. From our upper terrace room you could see the whole city
Review 8:Parking is away from the house, a ten minute walk. But that does mean its very peaceful with no passing traffic. The roads are cobbled and too narrow for cars.
Review 9:Beautiful location in medieaval town, very pretty breakfast courtyard, and delightful rooms with books, paintings and antiquies. Hosts are charming
Review 10:No parking as it's in old tow which was expected. But it took some time and effort to locate the property - sign was obscured by wines.
Review 11:It was great experience to stay there. Stylish property with old charm. Comfortable room with large bathroom and good shower.
Review 12:Nothing bad at all.
Review 13:everything about our stay was perfect. It just felt like we were staying with friends, that's how much Aud & Jean Loup made us feel at home. After a big day enjoying the town & surrounding countryside it was nice to come back to the lovely surroundings in the living room areas that felt like home and not be confined to your room. Then there's breakfast on the beautiful balcony, just perfect. We would highly recommend it.
Review 14:We made the mistake of checking into the B&B at around 19:30. It does state that the check in time is between 16:00 and 18:00, and the owners do seem to be quite strict about this. It was made very clear to us that we had violated this house rule and that the hosts were clearly angry that we had. Despite our mistake I did not expect to be admonished by such a red faced angry host when we arrived. It did mean that we did not see the more professional charming side of our host until he had calmed down the following day. Having to pay in cash did mean a sizable withdrawal from the ATM was needed.
Review 15:We stayed in the yellow room on the first floor of the old bishops palace. It is a lovely old spacious room with exposed beams in the ceiling. The Wi-Fi kind of worked in the room. There was a flavour of local art in the room and all over the house. Everything we needed was in the room, although there was no TV and as is typical in France there was no kettle or tea or coffee in the room. The coffee we had on the outside terrace for breakfast was delicious as was the rest of the tasty breakfast. Eating breakfast on the beautiful terrace which has views over the valley was very special. From our first morning onwards our hosts were nothing but charming and helpful. They gave us the benefit of their knowledge of the local area giving us some good advice for a drive around the local villages.
Review 16:Parking in the old city can be very difficult. We were able to find a spot very near the B&B, otherwise it would have been a long walk with our luggage.
Review 17:Location and friendly owners.
Review 18:Conveniently located in the old part of town, although you must like walking, this is part B&B, part library and part poster gallery. Jean-Loup and Oude are very hospitable and can recommend sites to see and places to eat. There is a lovely olde-worlde feeling to this place.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:This is our second time staying here and I'm just as pleased as the first time. There are a variety of rooms in this eclectic house decorated with all manner of beautiful art. The hosts are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. In fact, they recommended to us one of the best restaurants of the whole trip close by in Gigondas and also a wonderful drive around the wineries. The hotel is located in the most charming part of the town in the Haute Ville. Just make sure to get directions for parking and unloading. Breakfast is simple but filling and the rooms are simple, but tasteful and rather spacious.
Review 21:Couldn't locate building at first-charming foliage covers sign. Not for people who can climb hills or navigate cobblestone streets.
Review 22:Very unique building. Excellent breakfast. Stayin in a building and part of town several hundreds years old. Lovely time.
Review 23:Nothing. Best decision to stay there in whole trip.
Review 24:Owners were wonderful, courteous and friendly. Very professional and warm in welcoming guests. Location and amazing art and things to admire in the hotel
Review 25:It wasn't the easiest place to find and our GPS failed us. But once we found the place we were happy to be there.
Review 26:This was a beautiful place overlooking the hills of Vaison-la-Romaine. We had a very nice room that was comfortable and spacious. Our hosts were kind and gracious and were patient with all our questions including recommendations for dinner. It was a wonderful experience staying at their beautiful place.
Review 27:The location is in the old part of the city allowing for the ambiance of this beautiful town. The house is beautiful and the owners are very welcoming, making you feel right at home.
Review 28:Be warned of the lack of parking in the medieval city! Carrying heavy bags up the city steps and spiral staircase is hard work, but worth the effort :)
Review 29:• Stunning countryside views from our room. • Warm, homely atmosphere with friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts. • Beautifully appointed rooms in an incredible medieval house. • Delicious breakfast included!
Review 30:The continental breakfast didn't match up in quality. There was only packaged cheese, nothing local or fresh, no cold cuts at all, no honey ... just croissants and jam. A bit more variety, including local products and maybe boiled eggs, would have been great. The roof terrace does not have a table, just two flimsy chairs. We ended up carrying up our own folding chairs to sit in and used the flimsy ones as tables for some wine and cheese in the evening. The one fridge is four staircases down ... better furniture for the terrace and a small fridge directly in the room would really improve the usuability.
Review 31:Fantastic location in the old part of town. We had the suite with the roof terrace and the views were simply amazing. The suite has lots of space and the bed was really good as well (large and firm, which is not always the case in France). The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Review 32:Parking can be tough, have to get luggage up incline. But doable.
Review 33:Great location in interesting medieval village. Comfortable accomodations in lovely old building with terrasse overlooking lower town. Hosts accommodating and friendly but not intrusive. Great value for money
Review 34:I arrived about 8:30 pm, and had a difficult time locating it. It is out of the way, which I like, but they need a more visible sign, to add to the one hidden beneath ivy. Parking is not easy, but ok if you get a spot by the fountain up the street.
Review 35:The view from my room, the terrace, the breakfast, and decor. The charming location. The owners were nice and helpful. Good value.
Review 36:Jean-Louise and Aud were excellent hosts who went out of their way tomake us feel at home. Breakfast on the patio was very enjoyable and weare only sorry that this was a one night stay over as we think there isa lot to enjoy and explore inn the area.
Review 37:Our car window (and also of other foreign cars) was smashed at night by people of the village to say we should not park on their parking... Nothing stolen.
Review 38:Super location in the old village Nice house with tasteful interior and library with lots of books to explore Great rooms with a view Good wifi connection Great breakfast outside Very friendly owners
Review 39:We had to pay in cash. Host would not accept credit card. Luckily my husband and I came up with the 170 euros or it would've been a walk down the hill to the cash machine.
Review 40:Location was charming and centrally located in old city. We had difficulty finding it though because the sign was covered with ivy--part of the charm, I guess. We liked the breakfasts of croissants, cereal, fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt. Madam was very gracious. Our room faced the narrow street and looked out onto ancient rooftops and lovely boxes filled with flowers .
Review 41:Unique property in great location run by superb couple with great facilities and breakfast. Fabulous....
Review 42:Wonderful hosts, great little terrace to enjoy your wine and cheese in the afternoon with other guests.
Review 43:Wonderful hosts in a beautiful setting.
Review 44:Fantastic place to stay and wonderful hosts.
Review 45:That they didn't take payment by card
Review 46:Beautiful and Quirky building in a great location in old town. Friendly and welcoming
Review 47:N.A.
Review 48:Very unique and nice guesthouse - like home! The owners were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast (served in balcony) was also excellent.
Review 49:Lovely old home with wonderful hosts.
Review 50:Lovely setting, great breakfast and friendly hosts
Review 51:Everything
Review 52:Location, charming old building, welcoming/helpful staff and breakfast.
Review 53:The location is great, the B&B is quirky and beautiful and the hosts are wonderful. No need to say more.
Review 54:Wonderful and quirky B&B. Hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. The terrace has beautiful views. Wonderful value.
Review 55:Great location People very nice Lovely breakfast on the balcony
Review 56:Everything!
Review 57:nothing
Review 58:Very friendly owner. Lovingly decorated room and house. Beautiful terrasse with view over Vaison. Good breakfast.
Review 59:Quaint house in haute ville filled with interesting art and books. Enjoyed our walks and drives from here and the roman ruins in village.
Review 60:None
Review 61:The house The service The view The surrounding s
Review 62:I visited last summer and came back this year. I may come back next year also. I love the owners
Review 63:Charming hosts, beautiful and interesting decor, lovely location and comfortable accommodations.
Review 64:The only downfall is the lack of parking. However, you can drive into a small square 50 meters from the door and unload your baggage before moving your car out to one of the free nearby (200-300 meters) car parks.
Review 65:Wonderful owners with over 30 years experience in one location. English language skills are great! Breakfast on the terrace was a delight and more than adequate. Room was quite. View was fantastic as it overlooks the newer part of the city from the top of a hill. Overall wonderful stay!
Review 66:Nothing.
Review 67:Host couple were most helpful and friendly. This very special B&B is located on a narrow street in the old section of Vaison la Romaine. Very comfy accommodations. Beautiful views, breakfast on the terrace overlooking Provence region what is not to love?
Review 68:I think we stayed in the green room which was on a corner & had a window overlooking the river & the new town...the bed was atrocious as it dipped into the middle...hardly slept for the 3 nights we were there...my partner ended up sleeping on a single bed in an adjoining room...such a shame the bed was of such poor quality as it ruined what was otherwise a great place to stay, people who have mobility problems might find the approx 70m walk from the community carpark with luggage a struggle, there are also several levels within the house & consequently lots of steps for those who are challenged by steps
Review 69:Jean's suggestions of itineraries for day trips were outstanding, told us where to park when visiting Avignon, breakfast satisfactory nothing to write home about, rooms very clean, even though the shower room was small it was a good shower with plenty of hot water, wifi access great
Review 70:There was a scorpion in our room, dead but still very creepy. I wish there had been a screen on the window so I wouldn't have worried about it.
Review 71:The hosts were lovely, very helpful. They even served breakfast for us an hour early so we could make our flight on time! The place is lovely. Its like staying in a beautiful, funky, art gallery and library. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was big and nice.
Review 72:We Arrived by bus and walked to the B&B. If arriving by car, it's impractical to drive to the door, so that might add a small inconvenience for some, but was not an issue for us. They previously run an art gallery, and every bit of wall is covered with prints and original works. 'A bit too much for me, but that's just personal taste, and certainly didn't interfere with my pleasure in stying there.
Review 73:Good breakfast. Gracious host/hostess. Wonderful location. Building with enormous character.
Review 74:The owners are really friendly. The breakfast on the terrace was wonderful. The house has a special charm, the furniture and decoration are very beautiful and everything fits together.
Review 75:I personally have no complaints, but would not recommend this place for mobility impaired travelers..you can't drive to front door, you haul your own luggage to the B&B, and there are stairs to climb to rooms. If you're healthy, fine. If you've got Grandpa or Grandma, think twice.
Review 76:The property itself ... loads of charm and history, lots of art and books. Location in old medieval part of town adds to atmosphere. Good value for money.
Review 77:Parking can be difficult.
Review 78:Loved the whole set up of the building and rooms overlooking vaison, the owners where wonderful and helped by speaking very good english
Review 79:Everything was good. We should have paid more attention to when better restaurants are closed.
Review 80:It was a pleasure to be a guest in the family's lovely home. We so appreciate the owner s great maps and recommendations of the area. Parking in October was fine once we saw where it is. Note: the family prefers check-in after 4pm. The market day is very lively and worth visiting.
Review 81:A better explanation on how to park and get your luggage to the B&B would have been nice. We were traveling with a lot of luggage (7 week trip). You must park 200 yards away over cobble stone streets. Not easy, but worth it. It would be very difficult for a disabled person. The internal stairs are a small, steep circular staircase. The owner was very helpful and helped us carry our luggage.
Review 82:The owners were very friendly and helpful. They were happy to give recommendations of where to go and places to eat. We loved Le Moulin a Huile. One of the best meals ever. We had the upstairs suite with the terrace. The rooms were lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The view is to forever. Wonderful. It is more work to stay in the old part of the city. But I think it is much more interesting.
Review 83:We had a problem finding it with our gps. Not a problem of the Hotel.
Review 84:Ode and Jolouie were were gracious hosts. There home is filledwith beautiful art and decor. A very special place in the heart ofthe villlage.
Review 85:B & B in historical old Vaison - you are a guest in the owners' house which is full of books, posters and art. I absolutely loved it. Breakfast was served on a shady terrace overlooking Vaison and was delicious. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Room cool and comfortable on a cobbled street.
Review 86:This is indeed part of the ancient residence of the Evêché in the centre of the old town, restored to provide comfortable en-suite rooms and run by a friendly mature couple. It is ideal for romantic couples, young or old. Vaison-la-Roman is more interesting than the usual medieval Franco-Roman town, in being less dependant on tourism. It has at least 3 excellent restaurants - Le Moulin à Huile, Le Bateleur, and La Belle Etoile which is the most original at 5 Rue du Pont Romain in the old town (not where Google maps shows it). We would have stayed longer at Maison d'Hôtes de l'Evêché, but booked too late. It is an excellent base for touring the surrounding countryside if you enjoy medieval towns, sunshine, vineyards, fresh fruit and excellent food.
Review 87:The owners, Jean Lou and Ode (sp?) were wonderful!! Friendly, English speaking, extremely helpful with advice on restaurants, day trips. Fabulous location on hill overlooking newer part of city on other side of river. Impeccable views from large room, beautiful furnishings, wonderful breakfast on terrace. Peaceful, tranquil stay and we walked the streets of the old town in a.m.
Review 88:Finding it is rather difficult. It is inside the medieval village and the road signs are not marked. It is easy to park below as the village roads are extremely narrow.
Review 89:Loved that it was right in the medieval village. Excellent hosts with a very nice breakfast. The room was surprisingly large.
Review 90:We were only sorry we had but one night in this beautiful house, and the town is also a new favourite.
Review 91:This was one of the most charming B & Bs/ guesthouses I have ever stayed in. The host & his wife are friendly and thoughtful. The house itself is a delight, full to the brim with paintings and quirky features and gorgeous antiques. It is in the middle of the lovely ancient part of the town and the views from the house are superb of distant mountains and rooftops. The breakfast, which we were able to take in the pretty terrace/garden was so beautifully presented and every attention to detail was exquisite, everyone was taking photos of the tables of food. We cannot wait to stay in the Maison d'Hote de l'Eveche again.
Review 92:nothing much (no adjacent parking but its only 200 yds away- and free)

Review 98:Excellent and friendly service of owners Great willingness to give all kind of usefull information Warm welcome and good care for their guests
Review 99:Parking nearby is difficult, if busy the only spaces are quite a walk away.
Review 100:Loved the rooms space, comfort, warmth was superb.
Review 101:charming old building (but with modern comforts inside) in a great location in the old section of the town interesting historical area
