Reviews for Irton Hall
Review 1:We have stayed here on numerous occasions and as usual we had a very relaxing and pleasant stay, just what we needed after our busy Christmas. Friendly and very helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble, breakfast and evening meals were excellent. Our room was very comfortable, clean and toasty warm :)
Review 2:if you find fault with this place you are looking for something that doesn't exist
Review 3:absolutely faultless, excellent location, clean rooms, excellent bathrooms, great restaurant and very friendly staff
Review 4:The quality of the food in the restaurant was over priced and of below average quality. £11 for an over cooked, tasteless burger, not good enough!
Review 5:Rooms are clean and comfortable and contain a jacuzzi bath. The hotel offers free wifi and complimentary tea, coffee and bottled water in the room. Hotel staff are polite and eager to help.
Review 6:The breakfast was not very good, the carpet in the room were not clean. The bed linen were not changed/bed not done on the second day.
Review 7:The venue and location were very good, nice and quiet.
Review 8:I didn't think the breakfast was very good value for money. I had pre-paid and paid 8.95 for each breakfast. They didn't have any beans so my children had 2 pieces of bacon and 1 sausage and half a slice of toast!
Review 9:I loved the cottage that we stayed in and the privacy it gave us. The location was excellent too.
Review 10:Breakfest time service needs looking at.not asked if needed anything else ie tea coffee staff were hard to attract
Review 11:Lovely food clean an tidy rooms with excellant staff
Review 12:Room was great, spa bath in the room was a nice touch. No problems taking our dog along at no extra cost. Breakfast was very good. You cant take dogs into the restaurant where breakfast is served but the staff were more than happy to set up a table in the bar area next door.
Review 13:We ordered 12 breakfast sandwiches from the restaurant & they charged 6.95 per sandwich regardless of the contents. They came in stale slices of bread. Mine came as 3 sausages & 1 egg on a plate...not even I'm bread!! And they still wanted 6.95. We complained & they knocked 1.25 per sandwich off. That is the only bad point I have from the whole weekend
Review 14:Stopped in Peel Tower for 1 night. 12 of us for my 30th birthday. Impressed with the size of the place & how clean it was. The bed was very comfortable & the staff were very friendly & helpful
Review 15:The radiator in our bathroom didn't work, so we couldn't have a long bath, which we had planned. Invoice confusing.
Review 16:Beautiful location, lovely and quiet. Lovely rooms. Really nice staff.
Review 17:Only slight issue with really warm room even though the heating didn't seem to be on and had a view of the recycling bins outside, but not a big problem so didn't feel the need to complain.
Review 18:Idyllic location, spacious comfy room including spa bath and spacious shower, excellent food, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 19:I'm not used to having to physically lock the door form the inside with the key so I kept forgetting to do that. Also there doesn't seem to be sound proofing between the rooms.
Review 20:Great remote location. Lovely comfy huge bed in a really big room.
Review 21:We stayed at a cottage within the grounds and although we had privacy we we able to make use of the hotel bar and restaurant. We were only 30 minutes drive via fabulous scenery from the N. Trust car park at Wasdale Head from where we commenced Scafell Pike assent. Cottage had everything we needed and was very reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Would certainly return and recommend to others.
Review 22:Food is a little pricey but tastes amazing. Can't really fault this place.
Review 23:Felt more like a hotel rather than a b&b. Lovely place to stay, warm welcome and friendly staff. Breakfast was gorgeous,
Review 24:Guinness in cans not on draught and very expensive.
Review 25:Excellent location near the mountains and the coast. No charge for pets. Brilliant service from the staff. Good food.
Review 26:The food in the restaurant was a bit disappointing given the reviews. We would have liked a view (as opposed to a car park) for what we paid for our executive room.
Review 27:The room was spacious and the bed was really comfy. The jacuzzi bath was brill. Breakfast was good. Steve was lovely.
Review 28:The room was very hot, we had to have the window open all the time.
Review 29:Very helpful & friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, lovely building & grounds, excellent food and pet friendly.
Review 30:We were not told that they had a wedding booked for the weekend with a very noisy disco/band and the rooms of our self catering apartment were directly opposite the marquee meaning our two young children found it impossible to sleep. However when I mentioned this to management obviously they could do nothing directly to help us that night but they apologised saying they usually mention this to other guests. They did however refund me some of the cost of the overnight stay .
Review 31:We had a room at the back of the hotel so didn't have a great view (overlooking the bins!), however we booked last minute at a reasonable price for just one night so it wasn't a problem. Room was comfortable but in need of a little TLC
Review 32:Nice hotel in beautiful grounds. Lovely bar/restaurant area serving reasonable priced good food. Comfortable bed & spacious bathroom with a powerful shower. Little girl loved the peacocks and chickens roaming around outside.
Review 33:Difficult to find no sign posts for the hotel
Review 34:We arrived very late past the check in time but the welcome we recieved was first class. The room was excellent and the hotel facilities, staff and the hotel grounds superb
Review 35:A bit difficult to find as no actual address given. Also don't follow the GPS - it takes you through a very tortuous narrow route through Hardknot Pass. Not much around in terms of tourist attractions or alternative restaurants.
Review 36:Good sized bathrooms, very helpful staff, beautiful grounds, amazing food (including a good variety of vegetarian options). We ended up eating here both nights as the food was so good.
Review 37:Nothing to dislike, really.
Review 38:Absence of an interior designer, marble bathroom, most excellent staff, fabulous drive to and from, peacock and chickens in the garden, the Royal Oak.
Review 39:Room too hot. Bathroom floor had dust and hairs in corners. Guest in next room complained that the bathroom extractor fan was too loud. Cleaners left clean towels lying on corridor floors outside rooms. Dogs walk on those floors!
Review 40:Friendly staff, really nice food in bar and our dog could stay with us. Great breakfast too.
Review 41:Could be better if the bar and food bill clearer. Would be better if we could have gone in a dog friendly lounge, after food has finished.
Review 42:Really helpful for gluten free diet. Great for the dog.
Review 43:We have stayed here many times. It is great value for money, the staff are excellent, so friendly and helpful. Love the breakfast and choice on the menu.
Review 44:Nothing really except would have preferred more local ales to try in the Pub, missed the Jennings.
Review 45:Great party house for friends with a games room that the kids loved, plenty of rooms and space for all. Walls are 6 foot thick so you don't distube anyone, hotel bar is 10 feet away, walks direct from the front door, will return.
Review 46:No wifi in the big house. No PS2 memory card (per kids). Also, didn't know it was so difficult to reach Eskdale (very small and dangerous roads, but our first time in Lake District).
Review 47:Beautiful property. Nice people. Good beers on tap. Historic place.
Review 48:The decor was a little old but it added to the character, and the boiler made a very strange sound repeatedly but after speaking to reception we just had to run the hot water for a few mins and it went away!
Review 49:The size of our apartment was absolutely amazing. I booked the 14 Ppl apartment and it was huge. Perfect for my hen do, as I didn't want the usual going out around a city or town. I wanted somewhere we could all go into 1 room and spend time together. We also went to go ape which was an hours drive.
Review 50:Breakfast finished quite early for holiday makers. Could have been more fruit offered. Finished before we appeared! Our room was very hot. Need a lighter duvet.
Review 51:Staff were friendly. Relaxed atmosphere.
Review 52:Jacussi bath had some sort of scum not cleaned properly Somewhere to sit after dinner
Review 53:Staff excellent Food value for money and served fresh Beds and bedroom Location
Review 54:What a shameful waste of a beautiful looking build. The Lawn outside wasbadly tended, with clumps of dead grass all over.Inside was the same old sorry story. Lighting in the hallway was poor because there were cheap LED lamps retrofitted onto old lampshades. Result....you would probably need a torch. Everything about this place just seems that it could be so much better if someone actually cared for it. One most annoying thing was the hot water pipe underneath our bed. It wasnt a hot day or night but our room was boiling hot. So warm was the room that we couldnt sleep. At 1am in the night we had enough and complained to reception. Apparently they must have had the same issues before because we were told that there is a small fan inside our wardrobe and we should use it! If it had been a warm summers day it would be impossible to sleep. If you are ever in the unfortunate situation of stying here....AVOID ROOM 8. No apology was offered when we checked out nevermind any mention of refund. We just left, glad to survive the night.
Review 55:Outside it looked really grand but badly looked after.Breakfast service was good. Selection was also good.
Review 56:This property is very far out in the country, which is exactly what we wanted. The drive in and out was through fields of sheep and cattle - so fun! Wasdale is very close. The rooms were very comfortable.
Review 57:Quality of food was inconsistent, varying from excellent to poor from day to day and choice of dish. Not very easy to find.
Review 58:Helpful friendly staff. Views from the location.
Review 59:Hoped to sit out in covered porch on a rainy evening but autistic doors sliding every time we moved a muscle funny but irritating.
Review 60:Terrific people (very welcoming. & child friendly ) and access to beautiful countryside.
Review 61:No curtain on one of the bedroom windows and room very warm - covered window with spare duvet in wardrobe and windows opened so problems solved!!f
Review 62:Tom and staff were all very friendly and helpful. We chose this hotel to celebrate my husband's 60th Birthday as this was halfway for family. Great to be allowed to decorate the room and take own cake - forgot candles but they were provided too! Fantastic jet bath - great to revive aching limbs! Great menu choice and food was excellent. Reasonable price too! Great local ales. Would recommend anyone to stay here
Review 63:Wifi signal was poor in areas of the hotel, no great as phone signal (Vodafone) was also very poor!
Review 64:Excellent food, friendly staff and a fantastic location
Review 65:I didn't like the fact that guest can bring pet in to the room. for me it means that the room is not clean enough.
Review 66:- The room was big and comfortable - The atmosphere was very pleasant and welcoming - Staff were very helpful - location if far from the area were most .tourist stay but i found it very nice
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:A welcoming hotel with excellent customer service. Large room with a spacious bathroom which had a bath with jets and a separate shower. Tasty breakfast and a delicious evening meal which was good value. Beautiful building set in lovely grounds. Good location for walking up Scafell and about a mile away at Santon Bridge there's a fantastic gift shop with a variety of crafts as well as a separate coffee shop.
Review 69:Friendly staff, good food in the bar, spacious self catering accommodation. I like the location a lot; not a busy as the central lake district but here is plenty to do in the vicinity for a short break - if you like hills, little steam trains, jumping into rivers, Owls at Muncaster, etc.
Review 70:One evening the bar service was slow. The huge marquee out front is a shame-spoils the look of the place. But I suppose its for summer business.
Review 71:Staff are all relaxed as well as friendly & efficient, so we felt relaxed immediately. Theyre genuinely relaxed about dogs too, they welcome diners in bar area with their dogs. Plus there's a separate restaurant room if you dont like dogs. Rooms are spotless with lovely beds.
Review 72:The accommodation ,surroundings but most of all the friendliness and helpful staff made our stay one to remember and the reason that we hope to return.
Review 73:Only bad thing is we had a bag of kindling and no logs
Review 74:I loved every min of my trip! Hotel and staff all lovely. I took 2 dogs with me and they had a great time. Food was gorgeous and all reasonably priced. Well worth a visit
Review 75:The windy roads getting there.
Review 76:Loved staying in the 3 bed cottages. Stayed with family in the other and friends in the Hotel. Great meal first night. Was no problem changing the booking time when my family got stuck in a Traffic because of a bad accident. Went for a fab walk down to the coast from the nearby castle.
Review 77:That I can't stay there more often.
Review 78:Irton is set in its own grounds, out of the way in in a tranquil location. It has an excellent bar and restaurant with locally sourced produce at a very reasonable price. The staff cannot do enough for you, truly professional.
Review 79:Wifi was a bit of a hit and miss but managed to get brief spells when Internet was ok. Didn't spoil our stay though.
Review 80:Facilities and staff were superb. Great food and great hospitality to go with it.
Review 81:If you drive here, do not take wrynose pass/hardknott pass to getthere. It's a very scary mountain road and goes on for a long way asyou need to drive through it very slowly. Also, the wifi in our roomsimply didn't work, and it's so far out cell phones don'tget service.
Review 82:Irton Hall is gorgeous! We got a huge room for a discounted rate andit was by far the best hotel of our trip. We had a giant kitchen, asitting room with a billiard table, and giant bedrooms. The food atthe restaurant was amazing as well, and the staff was veryaccommodating even though we were three scrubby, pierced-up kidsarriving late at night.
Review 83:Travelling over Hardknott Pass in the dark to get there. Leaving Sunday morning. :-(
Review 84:That it was close to the sea. ;-) The cajan Lamb in the restaurant was delishes. Staff were great and welcoming.
Review 85:no hot water which wasnt really Irton halls fault but due to work that day by united Utilities(I was so looking forward to my jacuzzi bath too !!)
Review 86:lovely location, ,building, and grounds. Accomodation good and staff friendlyCant comment on the evening meal as they were full up and couldnt fit us in.!!(Breakfast was good)
Review 87:The 4 poster bed was not very comfortable but what a room, however all the others beds were good.
Review 88:Travelling as a family of 12 from Australia and the UK, we had pensioners to a 10yo. It was one of those Booking.yeah moments and the kids (& wives) thought they were Royalty. It was a fantastic place and somewhere we would recommend to others.
Review 89:I only have one complaint, the pot of tea served with breakfast was awful, so had to ask for another one which was equally as bad
Review 90:Have stayed at Irton Hall quite a few times and always enjoy my stay there, the staff are very friendly, rooms really comfortable and fantastic location!
Review 91:We stayed for a relaxing evening and visited a local pub. Hotel is clean, welcoming, warm and friendly. Prices at the bar were good!! Shame there was only one server for breakfast, poor guy was rushed off his feet doing breakfast and reception duties, it took him 25 minutes to take our breakfast order....bless! The hall is beautiful and I would Def stay again
Review 92:No breakfast available at 7.15am on a Monday, the start of the working week or staff to process my bill on departure. Appalling attitude from Manager, who seemed to think that as his staff had failed to communicate that breakfast times at the time of my checking in which had altered recently and that I had paid a lower rate offered on a booking website than their rack rate, my inconvenience merited no recompense despite having to purchase breakfast else where! Clearly less service for less money.
Review 93:Premises fine, staff an issue!
Review 94:We have stayed at Irton Hall several times and we always enjoy our stay, with friendly staff, gorgeous food in a peaceful easy to reach location and convenient for visiting wasdale for some great views and serious walking.
Review 95:Other guests a bit noisy sounded like they were running around upstairs for some of the night. But it didn't disturb us too much.
Review 96:Lovely big room with a big bed. Breakfast was great too. Really good value for money.
Review 97:Stayed in a large room with equally spacious bathroom. Room was well equipt with wifi, iPod dock with bath and large shower enclosure. Really lovely hotel in amazing location
Review 98:The hotel's directions were poor! Had to ask at nearby pub for directions. I had the Pork dinner which was nice but very smalll portion.
Review 99:Good size room, accepted dogs, comfortable bed, quiet night. Plenty area to walk the dog.
Review 100:Some minor on-going renovation work but only to be expected on a property of this heritage. Work looked temporary so I'm sure they will be gone soon (1st November 2014). But good indication of on-going improvements.
Review 101:A real gem. Recently renovated, the room was spacious and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was *excellent* with a great selection of local produce. Overall, great value for money and we will be back.
Review 102:Fantastic hotel, had a fantastic time. Food was very good, very clean and comfortable room. Took a dog with us and they catered for her fantastically. Will definitely be returning and have recommended to others who have since booked.
Review 103:family room bed should be a bed not a pull out sofa we had to set up ourselves! breakfast could have been so much better with better quality sausages and bacon more like a little chef breakfast
Review 104:Loved the famly room although for the price would expect a proper bed for the teenager! the bed was great very soft large and room is exceptional Dinner in the pub was divine loved it the service is great friendly and polite.
Review 105:Excellent value for money, we stayed for one night, Sunday, after only booking the day before, no charge for pets. The room no. 7 was large, clean and quiet overlooking the rear of the hotel. The Jacuzzi bath was brilliant. We ate in the hotel bar Sunday evening, dogs allowed. The steak and ale pie was delicious and good value at £9.95. Service was very good and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was cooked to order so was fresh and hot. Perfect position for walking in the lakes or close enough to drive for a walk on the beach.
Review 106:self catering property was good with everything that was required. I would say though the decor was a bit tired and could do with a lick of paint
Review 107:staff very friendly, and helpful. nothing was to much trouble even down to making some chips for the children prior to us attending a wedding at muncaster. finding irton hall ring for directions dont follow sat nav. would recommend no problem.
Review 108:Smell in bathroom, jacuzzi and shower. Apparently happens intermittently. Owner/Manager was very pleasant and took this seriously. We were given drinks in bar while awaiting them to resolve. Evening meal was only ok and we would be unlikely to eat there again especially as there are great pubs to eat in area, although kids pizza was good. Permanent marquee outside takes away from charm of lovely old building. Fountain a bit grotty.
Review 109:Good breakfast. Pleasant staff. Comfortable bed for adults. Spacious room. Bar on site. Beautiful area for walking.
Review 110:Room was very hot and difficult to work out how to regulate heating at night. Pillows were really uncomfortable. For some reason the TV was not tuned into the digital freeview channels.
Review 111:Luxurious bathroom, Beautiful room. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent and it is such a lovely setting.
Review 112:The carpets were disgustingly filthy and the smell of pets was revolting! £100 it cost for our 1 night stay and we had to keep our shoes on! Total let down, and could so easily be fixed! Mould all up the shower wall, told the guy on reception and was greeted with a "so what "attitude! Not impressed at all.
Review 113:Only a very brief over night stay, therefore did not make use of any of the facilities in the house, but everything seemed to be there.
Review 114:If I could think of anything it would only be nit-picking.
Review 115:the room had everything in it ,tv,super kingsize bed,own Wi-Fi router.usual tea-making facilities. The bathroom had a spa bath together with a power shower above..Nothing at all to complain about. A good breakfast cooked to order not buffet.
Review 116:very poor accommodation, stayed in one of the cottages. found it to be very damp, with a musty smell. the cutains in the kitchen were disgusting to say the least. went to get some glasses from the cupboard and found them all to be dirty. the outside of the cottages is very badly kept, lots of rubble. overall a traumatic experience which cost 145 pounds..so not impressed!!!
Review 117:the bar food is the only thing this place has going for it...
Review 118:In our room we had slightly noise from the bar. At about 23.00 the fire alarm started with a deafening noise. Because of the laughing from the bar we decided to go to bed again, when the Alarm stopped. There were no explanations then or in the morning.
Review 119:We enjoyed the wonderful hall with its surroundings. Breakfast and dinner were good. Room and bathroom were large an we had a nice view.
Review 120:Decor in the bar & restaurant is beginning to look a little tired.
Review 121:Staff friendly & helpful. Good value but distinctive food prepared from fresh ingredients with care & well presented. Great location.Room & bathroom large & comfortable with a pleasant outlook.
Review 122:Mouldy grouting in bathroom.
Review 123:Very nice hotel, especially for £49 on Sunday night. Good food which was reasonably priced. Excellent breakfast made with good quality local ingredients. Lovely location.
Review 124:Couldn't get hot water to run a bath, which was a shame as we were walking Scafell Pike and would have loved to take advantage of the 2 beautiful baths . There was a wedding on in a marquee and although we were warned that the disco would carry on until 12am, we still couldn't get any sleep until well after that as we then had drunken guests carrying on drinking outside our rooms, followed by the staff tidying up.
Review 125:Location Space
Review 126:There was a wedding on the 2nd night. As our room was at the front of the hotel by the marquee peaceful sleep wasn't an option. However the music was stopped bang on midnight as promised so can't fault the hotel there and it when booking we'd been told about it we may have chosen different days to stay.
Review 127:Staff were fantastic, room was spotless, bath was bubbly, middle of no where so nice and peaceful-ish. Would love to go back, just when there isn't a wedding on ! (Unless it's ours.)
Review 128:Better signage in the surrounding country lanes would be helpful. Had to ask for directions.
Review 129:Beautiful surroundings and high class facilities/accommodation. Only stayed one night but couldn't fault anything.
Review 130:We booked a room last minute and got ourselves an amazing deal via Booking.com in a king size executive suite, complete with Jacuzzi bath and a huge bed with the softest Egyptian cotton sheets ever! The breakfast and overall service was top class and we would most definitely stay here again, even at the standard rate. We absolutely loved this place.
Review 131:During our stay(2nights), never had a clean buthtub. So I had to clean it by myself after tired walking. Room was really small(2 single room).
Review 132:Surrounding nice country view. Dog friendly. You can have a breakfast with your dog in a bar.
Review 133:Loved the little cottage which contained more than we expected...including a cupboard full of games. Had an evening meal in the hotel which was fab and for £65 for the four of us I thought was very reasonable.
Review 134:The room was quite hot.
Review 135:we wanted to stay the Night in a tent in a camping ground, but we did not book in advance and as the camping grounds were full we du da reservation via booking at 9pm for the same night. We arrived after 10pm and even though the bar was closed we got a last beer. The room was huge, so was the bed. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was very friendly!!! We were quite happy that there was no free spot on the camping ground... :)
