Reviews for The Abbey
Review 1:Room on second floor had electric pump which fired up every time the toilet was flushed, shower used or cold water tap turned on. Appreciate the difficulty of pumping water to top floor but was very off-putting.
Review 2:Lovely staff. Comfortable bed in quiet location within hotel. Excellent breakfast.
Review 3:Thought some of the decor looked a little tired and in need of refresh.
Review 4:Location of the hotel good for us for walking on the malvern hills. Perfect for enjoying a night out in Great Malvern.
Review 5:The breakfast was a disappointment Ufortunately it was a buffet breakfast and they had an automatic toast machine which generally speaking can't do proper toast and this was no exception. The fried eggs were rubbery. If I had a one criticism about the room it ls that it was too hot, and the windows did not open enough to allow cool air into the room. Not bad for the end of December luckily there was a fan in the room
Review 6:The location and the room
Review 7:Staff very friendly and professional. Relaxing bar area for a drink. Plenty of parking. Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice. Location good as near the centre of Great Malvern. Would stay again.
Review 8:The staff, the food, the location and the room all absolutely fantastic. My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Abbey and we had ten guests to dinner, they all enjoyed the experience as well.
Review 9:Found the night staff to be extremely rude most notable the night manager. I had a bit of a dispute with another resident on the night where I was pushed by this person and sworn at however I was not treated with any respect or dignity as the victim of this I was treated as if I had committed the offence. This manager has no people skills, as you are in the hospatality business you would expect your staff to be respectful at all times.
Review 10:Great location but sadly won't stay here again
Review 11:We paid for a superior double but the only thing that was superior was the price! To me it was just a pretty standard room for a 4 star hotel' . The bathroom was actually in a worse condition than that of a standard room, which my friends had.
Review 12:Wedding taking place, the music kept us awake till 12 midnight Then a couple in one of the rooms close by decided to have a row at 3.15 am We paid 132 pounds for a superior room, the room was quite small in comparison to other superior rooms at other hotels
Review 13:Lovely location set in the heart of Malvern.
Review 14:A very disappointing stay at the Abbey on Saturday 28th November 2015. No double glazing/old iron frame windows so a cold draughty bedroom, bathroom even colder with no radiator or hot water – supply only tepid at best and water pressure nil – it would have taken all night to half fill the bath. No lift service which is quite an obstacle for any guests with mobility issues.
Review 15:Good staff, position and very clean.
Review 16:The view from our room was outstanding of the Abbey itself and the Malvern Hills. The room had an even temperature which added to the comfort of our stay. The staff were all very helpful.
Review 17:Car parking at the hotel is a disaster. Food over price and ordinary.
Review 18:The hotel is in a great central location over looking the abbey with the Malvern hills just behind.
Review 19:Nothing only the fact that we only stayed one night! ?
Review 20:The location and setting of the hotel was beautiful. The hotel itself had so much character. We were in room 429 and the view was amazing looking down the side of the Abbey.
Review 21:No bad experience - nothing to complain about, but it wasn't exciting either, and a little old fashioned - we probably will look for somewhere else next time.
Review 22:Location superb, and views from the bedroom where fabulous - excellent place to stay for walking on the hills, going to the Theatre or just enjoying Malvern town shopping.
Review 23:Poor room facilities for the price: no bathrobes, fridge/minibar, not even mineral water of fruit. Was charged for our newspaper on checkout, which felt petty - this is not a budget hotel!
Review 24:Very good location. The room was ready although we arrived early. Very helpful & friendly staff
Review 25:Very small and dated room. Not good value for money; would have a much better room for less in local B&Bs. Toilet took many attempts to achieve a flush. Not even enough space for putting my cup down next to the bed on one side because of the small wardrobe. Bed hard and uncomfortable.
Review 26:Good location in the centre of town. Good self-service full English breakfast and attentive dinning room staff. Good wifi.
Review 27:The door from the bathroom to the next room, they might as well been in the bathroom with us as we could hear every thing that was being said which was very off putting at times. Windows in the dinning area not cleaned! Such a shame as the view is fantastic.
Review 28:Out look, spaciousness, central. Pleasant staff. Breakfast lovely.
Review 29:The place looks a bit shabby and could really do with a bit of an internal 'facelift'.
Review 30:The hotel is very conveniently located in Malvern and we had a super view of the lovely church from our window.
Review 31:Kept awake or woken by external noise well into the night on both nights. Cooked breakfast under the heat lamps too long.
Review 32:Very comfortable room - particularly the bed
Review 33:It doesnt look as though the hotel furniture and furnishings have been updated since the 1980's and so it feels outdated, shabby and knocked about. Its also quite hard to get to by car - not its fault but it could give better instructions.
Review 34:The hotel staff were pleasant and efficient. The hotel facilities work, the room was spacious and the bed was especially comfortable.
Review 35:was a bit frustrating we had to order toast seperately for our fried breakfast - would expect it to come as standard
Review 36:great location, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff
Review 37:Friendly and efficient. Have stayed before usually arrange as a theatre package. Ideally placed, for walk to the theatre with car left in Hotel car park.
Review 38:The room we stayed in was terribly hot,the windows opened a couple of inches. The phone in the room was very bright and lit the room up throughout the night
Review 39:The location was fantastic and such a perfect place for a wedding reception
Review 40:It is high time to prune the Virginia creeper, which is definitely creepy outside the windows, otherwise can't find fault with anything
Review 41:Friendly, courteous and very efficient staff, high quality food, very comfortable rooms, ample lounge facilities, and town centre location.
Review 42:Massive black spider on bed - couldn't find it so found it hard to sleep on first night
Review 43:Handy location for wedding we attended nearby Friendly staff - especially at breakfast
Review 44:Being advised that the restaurant was fully booked when it was not. This happened on both nights. It became clear that they had serious management issues with the organisation of the kitchen and dining room staff. We ignored them and ate when we wanted.
Review 45:Position adjacent to the Priory. The view. The room. The bed. The service for the room. Building well maintained, but the creeper needs to be removed from the name of the hotel. The food in the dining room - well prepared and tasty, but the poached eggs ordered for breakfasts were cold. Nice to see (much) older people getting out on a holiday in Malvern. We (mature) felt so young.
Review 46:The water pump to the sink and shower in the bathroom made a terrible racket. Lack of privacy - we could clearly hear the people in the room next door through the sealed door in the bathroom.
Review 47:Beautiful location Extremely comfortable bed and clean room Excellent Breakfast Friendly and helpful staff
Review 48:The only thing was the bar prices were a bit high .t
Review 49:The abbey hotel is in a beautiful setting. On arrival I was really impressed the reception area had comfy chairs and a nice atmosphere about the place. Once we had our key to the room, well it was luxurious bed was large and comfy. Bathroom had both bath and shower. Room had table and chairs also a dressing table. The bar area was very relaxing also other rooms to just chill out. Breakfast is self serve with a selection of continental or English with a really good choice. All the staff were helpful and friendly had a wonderful time.
Review 50:The room was very small and not as advertised on the website. It was so small there was no room for a second bedside table because the space was taken up by a small wardrobe. There was only 2-3 feet gap either side of the bed to the adjacent wall. The windows only opened a couple of inches as they had safety stops installed. This meant that it was difficult to get adequate ventilation into the room. I will be writing to the hotel to complain so this review is subject to a future response from the hotel.
Review 51:The location and general facilities
Review 52:Poor shower, room was warm and the fan provided was very noisy. We had a long way to trail to our room with a very heavy suitcase. We used the lift but still had to climb stairs and we seemed to walk for ages along corridors.
Review 53:Food very good, room comfortable, staff helpful. We were lucky to find a parking spot right outside the hotel.
Review 54:Despite having a superior room, it was quite small and there were a few maintenance niggles such as broken window catch ( difficulty closing ), and cracked washbasin.
Review 55:The location & helpful, friendly staff.
Review 56:TERRIBLE PILLOWS!!!! So hard & very uncomfortable. I asked other guests their opinion & all agreed with me. A hotel of this standard needs to address this problem.
Review 57:Location, character of hotel & friendliness of staff.
Review 58:Lovely historic hotel, close to station, town, and Malvern hills. Staff were very helpful and gracious. Gorgeous Priory church next door. Food was very good also.
Review 59:Asked for use of scissors, but was told to go to town to locate and purchase. We needed to cut moleskin for foot issues.
Review 60:Nice facilities and most of the staff were excellent.
Review 61:Our room had a view of a dirty flat roof, with a window that barely opened and not enough natural daylight so lights had to be all the time.
Review 62:Beautiful looking hotel, very central to town.
Review 63:Could do with a second lift located in the new part of the hotel to make it easier to move luggage from car to room.
Review 64:excellent bed and excellent full breakfast
Review 65:on arrival receptionist was quoting room rates half what I paid
Review 66:location in centre of town and 2 minutes from the start of walks up the Malvern hills .beautiful historic hotel building and beautiful church and museum next door
Review 67:We weren't happy with our room on arrival, it was small, dark & the bathroom was tatty. We complained and the staff were very helpful and found us a room we were much happier with.
Review 68:Reception staff were very poor and behaved as the guests were very much an inconvenience to their day. The shower had very poor water pressure Wi Fi was a bit hit and miss
Review 69:Location, Hotel was lovely , Bar and Breakfast staff were excellent. Housekeeping were very helpful. Free car park.
Review 70:Restaurant service, and evening meal was very poor. Quite a few complaints from paying customers. Really need to address the restaurant service personnel.
Review 71:The Room was excellent, spacious, excellent comfort. Hotel location good, very clean.
Review 72:The room was quite basic which was disappointing when the hotel itself is so historic. Was expecting more character and not a travel lodge style room.
Review 73:Location was fantastic. Dinner was lovely and really enjoyed breakfast! Malvern is lovely.
Review 74:Poor reception in rooms for WI Fi, best to use in large areas downstairs.
Review 75:Excellent location next to town and Abbey, parking well catered for. Lovely appointed spacious room, very quiet in evenings. Very obliging staff and delightful relaxing large bar/ lounge area.
Review 76:The waitresses requires some training. We were not asked if we wanted to drink anything, after declining the wine list. Once we did get a drink, we were not asked for a refill. We both felt rather neglected once in the dining area. Do NOT let this beautiful place lose its character by staff not interacting with guests.
Review 77:What an incredible location and incredibly beautiful hotel. The food, both dinner and breakfast was superb.
Review 78:Room location ideal - but noise from terrace below until early hours spoilt the experience. Noisy pumped bathroom plumbing irritating. Bar understaffed, barman failed to greet or make eye contact - in fact totally ignored us until HE was ready - very rude! Waitress who served us at dinner was very nice - but poorly trained. Brought wrong wine, and completely forgot my wife's after-dinner tea order - we left without it.
Review 79:Hotel is lovely; location wonderful; parking reasonably secure and convenient.
Review 80:Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Our stay included breakfast and a three course evening meal and the food was stunning, excellent value for money. Staff were all lovely and very helpful except one grumpy manager in the restaurant. Rooms were nothing fancy but clean and bed was comfy. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 81:The bed was a normal double which is a bit smaller than we are used to - that said I don't think the room was big enough to take a larger bed. Guess I should have paid to upgrade.
Review 82:Good location, lovely setting, friendly and helpful staff. We got a 2 night B&B deal for £199 and our room was reasonably quiet.
Review 83:Meal was horrid Mould in bathroom Hospitality tray not refreshed Rooms unserviced still at 4,00pm A general disappointment on what the promotional images implied.. Sorely dissapointed
Review 84:Location
Review 85:inflexible over breakfast times even though several guests were attending a show that required them to be on the showground early
Review 86:staff friendly and helpful
Review 87:Our stay coincided with a large group who was there for a dance weekend. When we arrived we were told that the hotel could not provide a dinner for us as the dining room was fully booked for the dance group. We were also not impressed by the fact that we could not charge our drinks or our subsequent dinners to our room account unless we provided a deposit of £50.
Review 88:Hotel has excellent facilities and the breakfasts were first rate
Review 89:As a person who is a bit uncertain on her feet, I found the two steps on the first floor, with the hard-to-reach handrail, inadequate. The only other issue was the inability to access the hotel from the car park side.
Review 90:Wonderful view from bedroom.
Review 91:Reception staff a little impersonal. Efficient but not particularly friendly. Many stairs to our room, can we awkward with a case.
Review 92:Friendly bar staff doing their best under pressure. Lovely views from lounge
Review 93:Public areas are tired and need refreshing. having no easy (rear) access to the parking is ridiculous. simple to implement and would save a long circular walk
Review 94:clean and comfortable rooms.
Review 95:Was offered the chance to book a room upgrade and was disappointed with the size of the room we were given, didn't match up to other upgrades we have had in other hotels. Wardrobe space was very small and already filled with an ironing board, fan and spare bedding. Do like to book a double room with a bed with no join down the middle.
Review 96:Restaurant food very nice but if you stayed for longer than a few days you might have trouble finding something you hadn't tried before. Seemed to be more choice on the Bar Menu. Was offered the chance to book dinner before we even arrived which turned out to be a very good deal.
Review 97:No brown bread at breakfast had to ask and took along time to appear. Beds were a little hard for me but thats a personal thing.
Review 98:The service and helpfulness of staff
Review 99:bar food good quality but not value for money, drinks pricey, room noisy on sat night as wedding at hotel, no warning on website
Review 100:large room and bathroom, great views, excellent breakfast, hotel had character, very clean, comfy bed.
Review 101:One tiny moan.,. Couldn't turn towel rail heater off in bathroom and it made bathroom but hot as we were there in May.
Review 102:Beautiful view from room window ( front view). Superb BIG double bed. Excellent location and good parking. Efficient staff
Review 103:nothing
Review 104:The hotel is in a great centreal location within the town. Bedroom was large and the bed huge and very comforrtable. Staff were friewndly and helpful.
Review 105:The only thing we were a little disappointed with was the standard of the room. We had a superior double but have had better standard doubles in prior visits.
Review 106:Obviously, with the scores it highlights our satisfaction with the overall hotel and staff.
Review 107:For the price we didn't expect the double bed to be pushed against the wall. This mean't it was not easy to access for one or other of us. A small thing, but 2 tissues in the box!
Review 108:Location and car parking.
Review 109:Not a bad experience - but having asked about blue badge parking, and told that there was blue badge parking on site, to then find that the car park was not big enough for all guests and having to park down the hill was a little disappointing!
Review 110:Lovely location - very convenient for the theatre.
Review 111:Very uncomfortable bed. Apparently the hotel is in the process of upgrading them. Unfortunately, ours wasn't one of the ones yet done.
Review 112:Great central location.
Review 113:The pillows were too hard which resulted in a bad night sleep. The hot breakfast buffet was dry and tasted stale.
Review 114:like the architecture of the building and location
Review 115:I'd rather be able to help myself to tea/coffee at breakfast as there was a wait to find someone to bring it to me, and it's the most important part of breakfast for me! I'd have liked more fresh fruit for breakfast.
Review 116:The staff were very helpful about places to eat nearby and looking after luggage so we could look around the town. The room was very comfortable and extremely good value. I hope to return.
Review 117:Room was noisy from outside traffic, from ladies making noise as they left hotel late at night. Bathroom needed redecorating and taps on bath nearly fell off when I used them.
Review 118:Friendly staff, excellent location, very good breakfast.
Review 119:Rooms slightly dated, decor a bit staid. Staff were young and friendly but need a bit more training; sometimes the language a bit of a barrier. Difficult to eat in due to coach parties (advise you book early).
Review 120:Wonderful location and views Our bed was very comfortable Food was good (but a touch overpriced) Friendly Staff - no hassles - they upgraded Mum because she was 80.
Review 121:We were very pleased to have chosen this hotel. Although not cheap, you get what you pay for, and our short stay in Malvern was all the better for having opted to stay there.
Review 122:Only one milk carton each at bed side so could not have tea in morning. Bulb not working in bedside lamp. Interior didn't match age of exterior but all in all v good.
Review 123:Very centrally located. Lovely friendly staff. Looked beautiful from outside.
Review 124:Supplements on dinner inclusive price for D.B.B. Wine far too expensive, need better price option and range. Service can be very slow when busy, maybe more kitchen than staff? 1970's lighting in restaurant.
Review 125:Great location, overall friendly staff (A couple would not win employee of the month!) good food, service. Nice room, upgraded prior to our arrival.
Review 126:Bed was a little short if you are tall and this was for both of us, and mattress lumpy
Review 127:The breakfast included in the room rate was lovely. Staff was nice and helpful. Room located in old part of the building had character.
Review 128:I don't think it lived up to its rating. The shower was rubbish. We were placed Ina room with an air conditioning unit outside which was loud. Also the clientele were of a very mature nature which affected the atmosphere.
Review 129:Good location. Food was good and great value for money
Review 130:I personally found the pillow too hard. This is a personal preference of course.
Review 131:The underfloor heating in the bathroom and the shower facilities. Comfortable bed and excellent customer service.
Review 132:we stayed in a 'standard' room which was plenty big enough with a good size bathroom. All the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good
Review 133:Not cheap for what it is though that not so much of an issue as the fact that to get to our dog-friendly room we had to walk a long way round from the car park through non-dig-friendly areas so got a few dirty looks from other guests.
Review 134:Convenient location and pet friendly. Staff helpful and friendly. Room very clean.
Review 135:Nothing I would stay here again.
Review 136:It was nice to stay in a hotel that was individual. We were a group of friends and all of our rooms were slightly different in shape and size but all of a good standard.
Review 137:The decor just lacks a little imagination.
Review 138:The staff were very helpful and friendly. I asked to move rooms because the bathroom was a little distance from the bedroom, only because it was in the old pat of the hotel, it was no trouble to do this. The large beds were great.
Review 139:Set In a lovely location. Excellent value for money. As it was our anniversary the staff upgraded our room free of charge. Delicious evening meal, lovely breakfast. Friendly staff. Comfortable room.
