Reviews for Hôtel la Maison de Rhodes
Review 1:Nothing- we loved it and we're sad to leave what had become our home for 3 days
Review 2:Everything about it- the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in; everyone was keen to please in a wonderfully unobtrusive way, we cannot fault anything
Review 3:A bit expensive. Did not have a kettle nor coffee in the room.
Review 4:Excellent location. Very comfortable bed. Great ambience: traditional Troyes timbered home.
Review 5:For the price paid there were some niggles: Wifi rubbish, safe in room broken, sound insulation between rooms very poor, no coffee making facility in room, lack of hooks/hanging for bath towels.
Review 6:Good room.
Review 7:Wifi did not work in our room but worked perfectly near reception which was fine for us as we were just on holiday.
Review 8:Excellent locaction. Absoluteyly charming and chic - silver service from start to finish. Beautifully furnished and just a few minutes walk to everything you would want to see in Troyes. Very friendly staff. Food quite expensive but very good.
Review 9:Troyes itself has some wonderful old houses, but the street levels of many have been spoiled with intrusive modern facings. In between many there are incongruous modern buildings. Evidence of restoration happening, but they will need to act fast if the centre is not gradually lost. It was sad to see some of that erosion, and running down of such a place. Outside of the centre, it is an unappealing town.
Review 10:This is a lovely hotel, carefully restored, though priced beyond appropriate levels.
Review 11:Although the food was good, I don't think it was worth the price we paid.
Review 12:What a beautifully restored building. Everything done with taste. The proximity to the centre of town. We had a meal in the attached restaurant and the chef was extremely friendly.
Review 13:The hotel was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Everything was thought of and the staff were extremely hospitable and helpful. We loved relaxing in the small pool and sitting in the courtyard enjoying a drink. The location is fab, easy to access the town. We loved it!
Review 14:Breakfast served to order, but I would prefer a Buffet to choose. No Charcuterie. To be offered Cheese, when the Country has 246 Varieties does not help with choice.
Review 15:The Hotel building as stunning like jumping back 500 years
Review 16:Bad points, The wifi was awful and only available in reception. Our room did not have a shower only a bath! No aircon in the rooms, a fan was provided. Being next to the cathedral was a plus and a bad point the bells chime every 15 minutes ( or at least every 30 minutes) and this makes it impossible to get any sleep during the day if you fancy a nap. My wife and I have different views on this hotel she loved its French rustic charm and would stay again, however based on the lack of shower and lack of WIFI I would not stay again. I have read a reply from Hotel management to another reviewer saying that wifi was available in the rooms so you might be lucky in some rooms but it didn’t work in ours that was for sure and the upload speed was very slow even in reception so it made things like use of face time difficult if not impossible even in reception. The hotel needs to invest in a few more wireless routers to cover the whole hotel.
Review 17:Nice Hotel but has its bad points. My wife and I stayed in a Junior suite middle of August 2015 as a half way stopping point on a road trip to the alps. Good points, The town itself is lovely the architecture is amazing, the hotel is hundreds of years old and has been tastefully modernised. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast and service were very good with a hot English breakfast available.
Review 18:Wifi is fairly patchy, but then it is an old French building where some of the walls are very thick...
Review 19:A truly stunning hotel... Excellent location, short walk to the main sq, spitting distance from the cathedral... Very well presented, almost homely, yet beautiful. The pool is small but delightful. Staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 20:The wifi (free) didn't work but that was not a major problem. In such hot weather it would be good to have a top sheet as well as a duvet.
Review 21:A beautiful old building in the heart of a stunning old town with the delightful sound of church bells all round to remind one that this is a historic city whose cathedral (a stone's throw from the hotel) was visited by Joan of Arc. With our son we had two very comfortable rooms with views onto the lovely courtyard, crisp linen, fans, and masses of fluffy white towels in our spacious bathrooms. The small but pretty pool was a godsend on a very hot day. The restaurant was, unusually, closed for dinner but the receptionist recommended and booked a restaurant in town and we enjoyed the walk and the dinner. Breakfast next morning was one of the best ever (freshly squeezed juice, excellent coffee, fresh fruit, delicious pastries and cakes, home-made jam, nuts, yoghurt). We will definitely return for longer.
Review 22:We also booked a table for dinner at the sametime as giving new credit card. They had not made a note, said we had to go out as they were full. Hottest night of the year looking for somewhere to eat.
Review 23:Room airy.
Review 24:Absolutely nothing
Review 25:Beautiful and interesting hotel. Lovely staff. Couldn't be more helpful. Clean beautiful room and lovely food. What's not too like!!
Review 26:Finding the entrance was a bit of a trial as the restaurant has a different name to the hotel and this is the prominent sign. Parking is a bit tricky. The church bells chime the quarter hour! Although not all night long.
Review 27:This is a beautiful hotel. We had a room in the rafters that was splendid. We had dinner which is cooked in a tiny kitchen and was delicious as well as having that almost home made feel.
Review 28:Parking difficult No tea-making facility No easy chair Internet connection failure Hand-held shower only Noisy wooden stairs Limited seating in dining room
Review 29:TV had sub-titles Comfortable bed Interesting building
Review 30:The location actually was great but getting down that tiny, narrow little street was hard to manoeuver. An elevator would have been convenient.
Review 31:Your hotel is so charming from the courtyard to the staircase to the room. It was nice to see the scrapbook at the front desk that kept track of all the renovations and how much work had to be done.
Review 32:Our Garmin wanted us to go the wrong way up a street to get there. We had to circle around to get there.
Review 33:The atmosphere and closeness to the old historical area.
Review 34:Nothing really - just don't think about the bill
Review 35:The venue, ambiance and position of this hotel (Troyes) give one the impression of being transported back in time - in the nicest possible way - and living just for a while as a lord and lady in the middle ages. Without the disease and bad hygiene obviously!
Review 36:Nothing to report
Review 37:The hotel was excellent, the location was good, the building had been refurbished very well and gave it a unique feel. The service was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed.
Review 38:Parking in street was a bit tight for our very wide car
Review 39:Chef was very helpful over my dietary requirements and had bought soya milk & yoghurts and wheat free bread. Beautiful old buildings and very comfy beds.
Review 40:it was not good value for money. The breakfast was far too expensive for what it was and the room (a suite) was fairly modest with not even a waste paper basket. Altogether over rated
Review 41:The location was good, the staff friendly
Review 42:The dining room was too small and staff did not seem to have an efficient plan to make restaurant reservations.
Review 43:Junior suite was comfortable and well presented. The rooms were much larger than expected.
Review 44:Usual gripe about paying extra for breakfast - please just have inclusive in bill. Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss
Review 45:One of the best hotels we have stayed in - beautifully restored and detailed. Troyes itself is a delight and a hidden gem in France
Review 46:the only issue was the poor wifi connection in our room La Priererie
Review 47:beautifully renovated and tastefully decorated superbly comfortable bed, linen and lovely shower very close walk to centre of town but far enough away to be peaceful
Review 48:There was absolutely nothing to find fault with.
Review 49:We only stayed here for one night, as we were headed south to Provence, but we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were wonderful, the rooms beautiful and very comfortable. I only didn't sleep too well because of the heat. It was 37 degrees and climbing - but we did have a fan in the room. We had dinner in the courtyard (very pretty) and the chef himself took us through the menu. The food was wonderful. This was a lovely hotel, very old and quirky, and beautifully restored. We'd definitely stay there again.
Review 50:Nothing really. The wifi was a bit patchy on the second morning. No big deal
Review 51:The restoration of the building is so well done it was a delight to stay here. The location is fantastic, just around from the cathedral and the modern art museum. We had dinner on the first night and it was wonderful, the chef made us feel specially taken care of. This is a total gem of a place. We would stay here again.
Review 52:We were not disappointed second time round. In fact it was even better as we had managed to get a table for dinner in the restricted dining room of only 5 tables. The weather stayed kind so we were able to eat in the courtyard which was delightful. Our dinner was cooked and served by the wonderful patron who was charming, funny and a marvellous chef all at the same time. A delicious meal as well as a delightful evening. Our beautifully appointed room was under the eaves which, on a humid August evening did prove to be a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided. This hotel is a marvellous stopping off point if you are on your way down to the South of France or on your way back. They are child and dog friendly too. I can't wait for another road trip so we can stay there again.
Review 53:Breakfast wasn't included and would have been an extra 20€ each. Given the price of the room per night breakfast should have been part of the deal.
Review 54:The hotel is absolutely lovely blending comfort, style and luxury perfectly. The most beautiful hotel we have stayed in.
Review 55:This is a wonderful stopover on the way south. We love it and have been using it for a very long time. Sometimes we look for other places to stay but always end up here!
Review 56:Not having enough time to enjoy it as much as we might!
Review 57:Location in the medieval part of town, food, spacious and comfortable room, relaxing ambience, attractive old building beautifully converted into a great hotel.
Review 58:now shower - only in bathtop - gets wet outside no aircon in hot summer challenge
Review 59:Nice place - very cosy nice individual rooms, well maintained Very nice attentive personel
Review 60:Beautifully restored building, lots of atmosphere, lovely furnishings and courtyard, excellent breakfast and courteous staff. Expensive, but probably my favourite hotel ever
Review 61:No air con so a little warm through the night. Though you can't expect air con in a building of that age. However a fan was provided which sufficed.
Review 62:Fabulous hotel, fabulous area. Would recommend a stay here. Ate at the restaurant, the food was amazing and the chef was cheerful and entertaining. Staff very friendly and helpful. Troyes itself is a beautiful place to visit.
Review 63:It was very hot when we stayed and our room was on the 2nd floor, almost in the roof. There was no air conditioning and it was too hot to sleep. We had to open the windows but it was then very noisy with revelers in the street below.
Review 64:Character hotel, an amazing building and quite unique. We liked the courtyards and the peace and quiet.
Review 65:A beautifully restored building that was such a treat to stay the night in. We stopped over on our way from Brussels to Geneva and enjoyed the lovely town of Troyes for the evening. The staff were wonderful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I definitely recommend staying here if you want to explore the Champagne region.
Review 66:A beautiful hotel.
Review 67:We liked it totally
Review 68:Beutlful hotel very central in town Lovely room
Review 69:Stunning hotel fantastic room
Review 70:First class in all respects and the restaurant is one of the best we have ever been lucky enough to eat in.
Review 71:Location and outstanding renovation of an historic property
Review 72:really 5 star
Review 73:breakfast; quiet location; champagne and tapenade; cleanliness excellent (not standard in France)
Review 74:Wifi insufficiente
Review 75:Ambiente
Review 76:The internet didn't work in the room And breakfast v expencesive
Review 77:The room the place and the ambiance
Review 78:Noisy floorboards.
Review 79:Unique 15th to 16 century knight Templar filling lay & lovingly restored with superb attention to detail and service.
Review 80:No a/c and an unusual very hot night. A fan was provided.
Review 81:Location in a lovely old city, very quiet and excellent restaurant
Review 82:Fantastic location & food
Review 83:Nothing, it was all perfect!
Review 84:Beautiful decor and very comfortable bed and pillows. The staff were amazing and very helpful
Review 85:A beautiful hotel, in a very interesting and well maintained city.
Review 86:the location and room
Review 87:Beautiful restored Hotel, excellent staff, very peaceful & tranquil
Review 88:No wifi in bedroom. Breakfast good quality but expensive. Do not need such an elaborate breakfast. A simpler, cheaper version would be welcome.
Review 89:The location, parking facilities and interesting relations with the history of Troyes.
Review 90:the atmosphere and everthing else was superb
Review 91:Nothing
Review 92:Not ostentatious but excellent history and facilities
Review 93:wi fi
Review 94:the way it should be
Review 95:Quiet, convenient, simply beautiful. Unique decor, interesting rooms, attentive staff. Gorgeous grounds.
Review 96:This is a beautiful hotel, the room we stayed in was fabulous, breakfast was excellent. I can't fault anything.
Review 97:A little bit too much "cost management".
Review 98:Friendly staff and style of the house.
Review 99:Fantastic renovation! Loved everything about this hotel.
Review 100:Location, Style of Building, Clenliness
Review 101:Amazing restaurant. Food is absolutely amazing. Well worth a visit!!
Review 102:No lifts No a/c
Review 103:Fab hotel Fantastic room Great decor Comfy beds
Review 104:The wifi was not good
Review 105:The rooms were beautiful and the hotel very pretty
Review 106:Nothing loved it all
Review 107:The hotel was fab very clean staff very helpfull
Review 108:Upon arrival being told; restaurant fully booked, you cannot have room service because the chef wont, there is nothing for the children can order, after making a mild complaint was told the chef would allow something from starters and dessert only, 5* yet no air con, we were on the top floor and the heat was just about bearable even at the end of May, breakfast is very poor value, advert 18 yet charged 20 per person, no tea facilities in the room, no mini bar or fridge in the room. Charged 80 euros for the cot. Only stayed 2 nights whilst driving back to England and would have reduced to 1 night if there wasn't a 5 day cancellation policy.
Review 109:Nice location in pretty surroundings.
Review 110:Parking !!!!!
Review 111:Ambience, peaceful, serene Friendly and helpful team Local cuisine It did not feel like a branded hotel chain , individual charm.
Review 112:Had to walk outside to get to the breakfast room in the pouring rain. But wouldn't have noticed if it had been fine!
Review 113:Its wonderfully central, just next to the beautiful Cathedral. The building has been amazingly restored. The rooms are all different but all are comfortable. The staff are charming and helpful. Its our third time and still a huge pleasure to stay there.
Review 114:It wasn't a problem for us, but perhaps the hotel should ore warn guests about spiral stairs with no lift for less able travellers.
Review 115:Absolutely beautiful place. Stunning. Gorgeous town too.
Review 116:No lift. Cathedral clock very loud and some daytime traffic noise if your room is near the narrow cobbled street.
Review 117:Friendly comfortable and quiet - once the cathedral clock stops chiming!
Review 118:We were very disappointed with the 'pool' which was the reason why we had booked the hotel but which was essentially a large jacuzzi. The children had to share a small sofa bed in a room without proper curtains so they were woken up early by the sun. We were then astonished to be told we had to pay extra for the extra bed when this had been advertised as a family room.
Review 119:Great location, rooms had a good style of decoration.
Review 120:The lighting in our room was a bit dim, but is probably as a result of restrictions on what can be introduced in historic buildings.
Review 121:Although there are a range of photos on the site, it really isn't possible to do justice to this lovely hotel. It has been very sympathetically updated and has a real wow factor. Our room was large and had a good sized shower and bathroom area. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and it is really well situated for those arriving by car as it is on the edge of the historic centre, where some of the streets are very narrow, but is only about 5 minutes walk from all main buildings, restaurants etc. The breakfast was traditional French and very good. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 122:The picture of the pool was extremely mis-leading. "Pool" is not an accurate description, it's a plunge pool at best. It's not a swimming pool, as too small to swim in it. Area around the "pool" was very cramped / not enough chairs for guests. My children were very disapointed. We were also disapointed with the hotel's recommendation for dinner at Cafe de la Paix. Other hotel guests were sent there, and these seemed to be their other only clients. Once we explored Troyes, we found a vibrant centre and plenty of good restaurants we could have gone to...
Review 123:The archtecture and surrounding cobbled streets are very historic (dates from 12th Century) and full of character. Beautiful courtyard, and the the breakfast in the courtyard was an excellent standard.
Review 124:nothing
Review 125:The position in the city was good and the hotel itself really beautiful. The breakfasts were expensive but worth the money. The room was large and the facilities first class. We would most certainly return.
Review 126:Everything. The hotel, staff , facilities , location were perfect. We will be visiting next year, so don't tell too many people as we don't want to find it fully booked!
