Reviews for YHA Eskdale
Review 1:Family friendly,Goiod price and the Young ones still remember the staff member from last year and was hoping to see them again.Breakfast was good and location is awesome
Review 2:The hostel was situated in a place of breathtaking country side that allowed me to step back in time to my boyhood years spent on the moors that surrounded Ilkley
Review 3:Nothing!
Review 4:1.This youth hostel is located in beautiful place... in front and back of the beautiful mountains! I could enjoy the small river by the hostel. And I took a little good walk around before breakfast. 2. The staffs are very friendly and very kind. This is the most strong point in this hostel. 3. I was satisfied with evening meal and breakfast. Especially, I was surprised at 3 courses including the dessert, though it's simple. I enjoyed it! 1.
Review 5:Everything was amazing, the staff, food, hospitality and area was phenominal! A truly good solo travell experience for a 21 year old! I have already booked my next solo trip to YHA in the Peak district in Harrington! I will most definetly be back :)
Review 6:Very small negative but there could be a freezer installed for self catering purposes.
Review 7:Excellent location - great staff, all very friendly. The kitchen was clean and fairly spacious. Breakfast is good value and tasty!
Review 8:Take care when planning your route. Thankfully I'm a confident driver but if you're not (and even if you are and the weather's bad) avoid Hardknot Pass - it's a shocker!
Review 9:The location of the hostel was beautiful, the hostel itself was clean and nicely presented. Well built so that noise didn't carry much at all.
Review 10:Didn't try the breakfast - but i'm sure it would have been fine.
Review 11:We wanted somewhere cheap to stay. We were climbing Scaffel Pike, and this was within a decent driving distance from the mountain. This place was well located and cheap, exactly what we needed.
Review 12:Does what it should....good night sleep. The dorm for six was fine and beds comfy. Plenty of room to make your own breakfast or they offered full English.
Review 13:We weren't expecting a great comfy bed but they were quite uncomfy and the space between upper bed and lower bed was too narrow. But if you are not staying long, it is a great panoramic view that you even forget about it.
Review 14:The first I can say is we fell in love with the location, huge panoramic view garden. very very smiley helpful staff. Also the dinner was very good value for the money and delicious and plus homemade! :))
Review 15:Location in fantastic scenic countryside, great drive to get there,Lovely old building, self catering kitchen, Walk to great pub Excellent welcoming staff, A different wonderful travelling experience - thank you
Review 16:top bunks tough for larger people, quite a way to get to using public transport initially
Review 17:the staff were great, site is excellent breakfast is good value, kitchen is good, welcome in the area is superb, other users accepting and friendly
Review 18:wonderful situation with a staff that were so friendly and really wanted to help you, great food that really filled you after a hard day's walkiing and showers that were hot for achange, top marks. extra praise for the young lady working there ,sorry i did not get her name but she was so smiley and happy that she made you feel great even if you were shattered.
Review 19:Nothing really about the YHA hostel, we were fortunate with beautiful weather, when it can be so fickle there. It is on a isolated white road near Scafell mountain, access is recommended via the A595 from the west. The alternative via the A593 from the east means having to negotiate Wrynose and the daunting Hardknott pass which in good conditions is a driving challenge, in bad weather a definite hazard and potential danger, still once overcome there is a sense of achievement and satisfaction and the view from the top of Hardknott pass is simply breathtaking .
Review 20:The location is outstanding, food available good standard and value for money. Friendly staff, room and washing facilities clean and comfortable. Wonderful view from room. Overall excellent value for money. Highly recommended .
Review 21:A bike shelter would be a good addition.
Review 22:Idyllic spot, which was readily located. The atmosphere was very friendly and family orientated. A short walk to the local pub was a bonus. Very pleasant staff made you feel very welcome without being over intrusive.
Review 23:Friendly, cosy communal areas, and a sense of feeling properly "away from it all".
Review 24:Nice building, good staff
Review 25:the staff were great. the location great
Review 26:The beds were quite narrow, but I guess that's value for money
Review 27:Staff were very helpful and gave us advice on further journey
Review 28:Nothing it was perfect.
Review 29:Everything really great place. Lovely spot and great people. Perfectly situated.
Review 30:It was impossible to get to as the route was taking us through Pass.
Review 31:no dislikes at all.
Review 32:friendly staff , good breakfast , ideal location for hiking the scaffel range. will definitely be back in the future.
Review 33:Peacefulness of the location.manager has a very involved approach to sustainability and the hostels place within the local community.

Review 40:Room a bit small
Review 41:Beautiful location Peaceful Friendly helpful staff Good food
Review 42:would have liked a Television room..
Review 43:setting. staff were very helpful and accomodating. good kitchen facilities and lovely dining area.
Review 44:Sharing a room with noisy, snoring people
Review 45:Location. Peacefulness Inaccessibility
Review 46:Having just one power point in a 6-man room.
Review 47:We liked the helpful staff, clean facilities and hearty breakfast.
Review 48:Uncomfortable basic beds/bunks.
Review 49:Polite, helpfull and freindly staff. Nice setting and location.
Review 50:whats not to like?
Review 51:super helpful staff
Review 52:There was only one plug socket in the room. One by the mirror would be helpful for drying hair. More are needed for charging phones. Didn't like not being able to consume own alcohol on premises. Kitchen was very small. Poor compared to other YHA's in the Lakes. In need of an upgrade to meet the standard of other YHA's.
Review 53:Freindly clean and tranquil. Views amazing and lovely walks just on the doorstep and kid freindly. Would definitely take my kids there for a holiday.
Review 54:I paid £53 for 1 night for 2 people and the room was really tiny and the beds uncomfortable... The hotel in general is nice and the location is wonderful but it was far too expensive for what it was!
Review 55:Shower was blocked on the last morning.
Review 56:Great staff, nice clean room, could walk to the top of Scafell pike fromthere (although we got a bit lost and took a 3 hour detour!)
Review 57:Not allowed to drink your own alcohol. Have to buy it at the hostel!
Review 58:Value for money Located half a mile from good bar/restaurant Good breakfast at hostel
Review 59:the breakfast was very small - we recently stayed in couple of yha hostels - we're very surprised - coffee was running out and the hot plate was twice less than in Conwy YhA, toilets not in the rooms ...gave couple of calls to reception - none answered ...parking was busy , parked on grass and scratched the minibus because of the stones o. the grass
Review 60:the place itself is great, good staff and clean rooms
Review 61:I arrived at the hostel via the mountain route which made the faculty quite difficult to find - my own fault really because there's another route which makes the place totally accessible!
Review 62:Great facility with set in truly scenic countryside but what made 'Eskdale YHA' a special experience was the kindness and helpfulness of staff!!
Review 63:Excellent value for money. Exceeded our expectations for a youth hostel.......where else could you get a clean, comfortable bed and a full English breakfast for less than £30? Would have been even less if two members of our party hadn't dropped out! And a great pub just along the road!!!
Review 64:The room is tiny. I booked a twin room. But I wont rate it as even a single room. I would say 3/4. They had bunk beds. I think the size of bed was less than single bed size. There were hardly any space to walk in the room. There was a chair and had to walk over the chair to get from one side to the other. The boiler also had problems(There were apology notes on the bathroom doors though).
Review 65:Friendly staff.
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:The Youth Hostel is situated just after you come over Wrynose and Hardknott passes near a pub, a perfect place for a rest after cycling or walking the passes
Review 68:It's in the middle of nowhere. Very very hard to get there. The mountain road is often covered in heavy snow (snow from 2 month ago). Thus, you need to spend 1 more hour to go all the way round the mountain.....
Review 69:Staff are helpful.
Review 70:breakfast great value, dining room/leisure room great for a pint and a chat after a hard day on the mountain. Staff were great very helpful & accomodating.
