Reviews for Charlemont Arms Hotel

Review 1:Main areas of hotel a bit shabby. Bit more variety in breakfast cereals would be good. No proper breakfast menu on tables so you had to ask if what you wanted was available.

Review 2:Location good central to city and within walking distance of the event we were going to.

Review 3:Nothing to dislike.

Review 4:Everything was excellent. Having flown into Belfast International Airport during the evening, obtained a hired car and driven to Armagh in foul weather, I arrived after the kitchen had closed but a superb home made burger with trimmings and a fresh desert was enthusiastically prepared for me and it was just what the doctor ordered, so to speak. The friendliness of all the staff, the ambience, facilities and comfort of this traditional hotel and a superb fresh breakfast ticked all my boxes and more. I was a returning guest and will certainly return again.

Review 5:The hotel was advertised as having a lift, it didn't work & I use a walking stick so it was quite awkward to move about on tiny stairs & there were a lot of them. No member of staff offered to help with cases etc even though there were a few of them about. If I had known the lift didn't work I would have booked elsewhere.

Review 6:The bed was very comfortable & the water was hot for a shower

Review 7:Lift didn't work and décor could do with a bit of modernising and brightening up. But a pleasant and comfortable hotel.

Review 8:Polite staff were extremely helpful and friendly; nothing was too much trouble. Food was well cooked and served efficiently after ordering. Parking available at back of hotel free of charge.

Review 9:Excellent food in the hotel restaurant, friendly and helpful staff. Very handy location for everywhere I needed to get to and easy to find on first arrival.

Review 10:We were very disappointed with our room. I understand that the hotel is older but we felt it was very dated and old fashioned. It was not to our taste at all.

Review 11:The food was really nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 12:Wi-Fi was unstable and unreliable and I was not excited by the breakfasts, especially cold toast

Review 13:The rooms were clean and well laid out.The hotel was well situated .

Review 14:Was staying for three days. The bedsheets were never changed, nor was the room cleaned. Towels were changed but that's about all. Very poor Wifi non existent in rooms Decor very shabby

Review 15:The staff were all very nice.

Review 16:I was welcomed on arrival, I was given a large room, which was well-appointed, very comfortable and met all my needs. Other than respectfully suggesting that it is time to renew the white sealant around the bath, I have no adverse comments to make. For me, everything was good and, despite my early morning departure before breakfast formally started, two members of the hotel staff insisted on preparing and giving me a bacon sandwich to 'keep me going'. All in all, superb and traditional Irish hospitality gratefully received by a Scotsman. Thank you!

Review 17:no fresh fruit or muesli for breakfast but the cooked breakfast was good. Towels, linen and furnishings need to be replaced

Review 18:good location in central Armagh, free onsite parking, bar and restaurant on premises which is just as well as EVERYTHING else in town was closed.

Review 19:I think I just told you, not informed on check in about food problem, no dinner and only continental breakfast which I detest. Alarm going off unecessarily during night and to add to it in room 101 couldn't shut window to drown out industrial sound emanating from the yard - probably from coolers etc. Heating also inadequate.

Review 20:Maybe the fire alarm going off in middle of night? The only friendly person on staff was Jackie who should be commended in otherwise dismal experience. I hope I will be offered a partial refund.

Review 21:The room was large but it was quite cold as was the breakfast room and the downstairs bar and eating area. There was no way of adjusting the heat in the room. The food was very ordinary, and the coffee at breakfast tasted of the cheap instant powder type. It certainly was not freshly brewed from ground coffee beans. My bathroom need renovation, especially the shower mechanism.

Review 22:I received a friendly welcome. Wifi and parking were free, and the bed was comfortable. There were plenty of power points, and tea-making facilities.

Review 23:That I had to leave!

Review 24:The Charlemont is exactly the kind of place I hoped to stay. It felt like home the moment I walked in and the staff went above and beyond considering how busy they were on St. Patrick's Day.

Review 25:There was only one fault with my stay and that was the shower

Review 26:the location of the hotel was perfect. I loved the bed it was so comfortable. The staff were really nice and helpful and boy do they work hard. I would recommend anyone to stay there

Review 27:There were some damp issues in our room and bathroom. The toilet was not cleaned properly (dark stains under rim). Breakfast was disappointing.

Review 28:Position of hotel, spacious bedroom and comfy bed.Evening meal in Bar was excellent as were the staff.

Review 29:First off my mistake, I booked what said a double room and in small writing beside it for single use as in one person. So what I expected to pay 81 euro turned into 105 euro just for one extra person no difference in beds. The room we got had a light in the bathroom hanging down which we were told about but not offered a reduction in rate. The room was freezing. We let reception know on the way to bistro for our valentines dinner... Bistro had no atmosphere what's so ever. So many lights, they could of dimmed a few. No candles nothing. They had a Valentine's menu advertised in the windows. I assumed they were making some sort of fuss. One should never assume. I had a pork dish which was described as honey and mustard pork with Apple compote and spring onion mash potatoe. The blandest dish I have ever had. The meat was nice and tender il give it that. Mash tasted like it was sitting somewhere for a few days. Awful. Not even creamy, lumpy and really awful. Apple compote? Apple sauce. When our waitress came to clear are plates I told her how bland it was not that she asked if we enjoyed it or anything. She was quick to respond that she in fact didn't make it. I knew that, thanks. I asked her to pass on the message to the chef as I had only eaten the pieces of meat. When she came back there was no apology. We called it a night as we were quiet annoyed at this stage. We checked with reception about the heating on way back to room. We received a "blow" heater plug in, very unpleasant sound as anyone will know. Heating had been turned off from reception. "Her fault" she told us. Oops.Basically very expensive hotel and meal for the poorest of places I have stayed in Ireland. I would have preferred to stay at home for valentines.

Review 30:Not a whole lot, unfortunately. Well parking was actually good, just to rear of hotel.

Review 31:lift only from 1st floor up - a lot of stairs

Review 32:Hotel is in town, there is a separate parking at the back, parking closes at night, staff friendly and helpful

Review 33:breakfast, reasonable choice but ingredients tasteless.

Review 34:location was excellent, enjoy the old part of Armagh. Easy on site parking, friendly, helpful staff.

Review 35:Hotel was fine but bedroom was extremely cold. When we arrived the windows were all open & room did not hear up after closing them as there was no heat from radiators. I left early the next morning & my husband says the room was much warmer & radiators very hot during the daytime - unfortunately the wrong time for us tho! Other than that our stay was fine...... My husband was kept awake during the night with noise from the street below.

Review 36:Girl on desk at check in was very pleasant & helpful with information on directions around the town etc.

Review 37:Above the door inside the room was a light (had a fire broke out would lead you through the door) This shone so brightly that it kept me awake and i woke up very hour on the hour. So when the morning came i felt i had not had any rest. On the flip side had a fire broke out i would have been able to find the door get and into the corridor to escape!!

Review 38:Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 39:Having to leave.

Review 40:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. It really felt like the staff knew the residents and atmosphere was very nice. Slept so well - excellent quality mattresses. Safe, convenient parking at rear of hotel.

Review 41:My stay was too short !!

Review 42:Well just everything from location, parking facilities, restaurant and bar staff, room size and comfort and particularly the management interest in our stay to make it as pleasant as possible. Quality of food also derves recognition.

Review 43:Armagh still has the undertones of being a bit trapped in the "Troubles" (although without any violence witnessed by me). For such a beautiful and busy town in the day it felt like a ghost town at night and I was there on Friday and Saturday night with very few people in the streets and the vast majority of shops and windows in lock down mode. It seemed a bit sad to see such a difference between day and night in such a beautiful town.

Review 44:Armagh is a beautiful little town in the day with lots of great potential and this hotel has as well. Beautiful RC and CofI cathedrals close by with busy car boot market and good shopping by day. Meals were very good both breakfast and pub dinner.

Review 45:Excellent location. Walking distance to attractions. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. We were tracing family tree. Staff made phone calls & connected us with distant relations. Our Tomtom playing up. Staff fixed it for us. Good quality hearty Irish food.

Review 46:The heat in the room couln't be controlled and since we both run hot, we were very hot during the night.

Review 47:The hotel was easy to find and close to everything I had planned to see. The double room was very spacious. Breakfast was lovely. The hotel itself is very charming, welcoming and clean.

Review 48:the decor was tired, the room and bathroom were a little musty and we did not bargain for the street noise which went on til nearly two am, which seemed like a street party but which was, apparently, just folk spilling onto the street, perhaps to smoke.....

Review 49:The steak in the wine bar was excellent, and most of the staff were very friendly

Review 50:Rooms a good size but the bathroom was dated and quite grubby. Slightly overpriced compared to other locations at the same cost

Review 51:Nice friendly and helpful staff, nice bar & breakfast area with a nice dining menu

Review 52:-located on a noisy, grotty street full of take aways and taxi offices. Kept awake till all hours with people whooping and roaring outside. -bar food was horrible, undercooked chips and overcooked burger -wifi didn't work, connected but very weak signal, waste of time -breakfast an unpleasant experience, windows rattling whenever staff going in and out of dining room, food itself was only average -reception did not make us feel especially welcome, won't be back.

Review 53:-room was spacious -comfy bed -friendly bar staff

Review 54:Breakfast was not good, soda bread tough bacon dried up and served on cold plates

Review 55:Room was ok good enough for getting ur head down but I don't think I would bring my girl friend

Review 56:TV didn't work, was told someone would look at it but no one came.

Review 57:the centrality of hotel, close to local sights & shops. was very comfortable & clean; bed, bathroom & room were ideal.

Review 58:Bathroom too small. Greasy breakfast.

Review 59:Bedroom comfortable but had to leave bathroom door open to use sink otherwise you were squeezed up against back of bathroom door.Dining room was bight and pleasant but breakfast left a lot to be desired -potato cakes full of grease and overcooked sausage.Staff polite but not overly friendly.

Review 60:The hotel is looking a bit shabby and the staff organisation was very poor, however staff were pleasant, overall the hotel do with a good makeover and management needs to get a grip of the day to day running of the hotel.

Review 61:The rooms and bathroom were clean, car parking location good & secluded.
