Reviews for Burford Lodge
Review 1:Information about the hotel could have been fuller. Instead there was a list of "house rules" !! As there was no restaurant it would have been useful to have included a list of nearby eating places because we didn't know the area. The hotel lacked atmosphere and when we arrived it was completely deserted. I found the hairdryer just as we were leaving.....
Review 2:Good location, nice breakfast, comfortable room.
Review 3:No atmosphere, no proper promotion of meals available, especially for New Year's Eve. Could do with more relaxing seating (lounge area)
Review 4:The cleanliness, cooked breakfast, friendly two members of staff
Review 5:Went 3 weeks before Christmas no decorations up. Bar shut at 8pm so we had no choice but to leave hotel in the evening. Atmosphere of the place completely lacking.
Review 6:Room was lovely & very comfortable.
Review 7:A reasonable hotel, with a nice breakfast. But the hotel was overpriced. Have stayed in other hotels in the Cotswolds which were nicer for almost half the price. Not sure having to say what you wanted for breakfast, and what time the previous evening is a good idea when your on a leisure break?
Review 8:No overnight staff. Entrance which could be opened by anybody.
Review 9:The location is good. short walk into Burford. Only seemed to be one member of staff who did everything.
Review 10:The only thing we found disappointing was the evening menu - everything on the menu appeared to be Chinese orientated - like noodles, beef and dumplings - nothing for children or the average teenager. I'm sure the food was lovely but just not varied menu. Also we were asked on arrival to choose from the menu for that evening (we ate out at the pub) which, when you're checking-in you just want to go to your room. We were also asked to choose breakfast for the next morning - which was no big deal but we had to say what time we wanted to eat; so it gave us the feeling of rushing in the morning in case we were late (a window of time would be better) and then it was assumed we would choose the same breakfast the following day - but the staff were happy enough for me to change my choice (I did do that the night before in keeping with their tradition). Cannot fault the breakfast though; lovely chilled fruit juice, fresh fruit Bacon and sausages were cooked properly, scrambled eggs cooked well and strong cup of tea. Excellent.
Review 11:Very clean hotel; staff very polite and helpful; close to the High Street. Great English breakfast - fresh fruit, chilled fruit juice and nicely cooked bacon (crispy) and sausages and well cooked scrambled eggs.
Review 12:The tea service in the room is poor - cups too small, only brown sugar. Hardly a problem!
Review 13:Burford Lodge is Chinese owned and Chinese food - a surprise, but a real treat. Fabulous meal!
Review 14:Rooms were cold. So was the breakfast area. We asked for a ground floor room because we had an individual with mobility problems. On arrival we were told the request wasn't read by the hotel owner. When in reality there were no ground floor rooms. Our beds were not made - we were told this hotel doesn't do that. Information by staff conflicted - so difficult to tell what the truth really was. Breakfast was awful. Eggs were made way before we arrived at the table. Quality of breakfast offered was very poor. We will not be visiting this hotel again.
Review 15:Hotel was clean and located close to burford. Parking available. Staff on Sunday seemed honest and upfront in comparison to the other days we were at the hotel (fri night and Saturday)
Review 16:It was a bit far from the town and on a very busy road. The shower room was very small and the toilet didn't flush properly.
Review 17:Very nice, approachable staff, rooms and public areas were extremely clean.
Review 18:The breakfast was very small & we were only given one piece of toast each & was not asked if we would like more or a top up of our very small tea pot.
Review 19:We didn't like anything about this hotel I am afraid &it needs updating. It is quite a central area to Burford which is a lovely town.
Review 20:The reception area was small and unwelcoming with a very high desk like a barrier between staff and guests
Review 21:Ted on reception was very helpful on our arrival Our room was well equipped and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. All in all a very pleasant place to stay
Review 22:1/at night the porter went home at 9pm,and the bar was shut,2/none of the staff stayed at the hotel at night.3/the guest were left to look after them selves.
Review 23:not a lot,
Review 24:Bar shut very early (about 9ish) Didn't bother us but would be nice for some to have a nightcap when returning from a meal out.
Review 25:Staff were excellent. Especially Ted on front desk. A credit to his employers.
Review 26:Location and building is lovely. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast included is a plus. Rooms are comfortable, clean and with nice amenities. Beds are just okay. Note there are lots of stairs and no elevator so if you can't climb stairs, this isn't the place for you.
Review 27:We once took the Chinese dinner offered at the restaurant and did not like eat. We beleive there are better choices at burford.
Review 28:The staff was very attentive and friendly. They let you feel at home. Location is great for the area in general and the village facilities especially. The breakfast was a good english breakfast with multiple choices. My wife still praises the porridge. The rooms and the restaurant had an aura of "goosd old days" but it is seems renovated and not shabby.
Review 29:Pre ordering breakfast, the lay out is confusing & having to pre book a time to eat your breakfast. Be better if you could order when u sit down.
Review 30:Warm welcome Amble parking
Review 31:On a main road although not noisy in the rooms , could hear people in the room above us very clearly !
Review 32:Friendly welcome , Nice room a little small but nicely furnished. Good breakfast very close to shops and other pubs .
Review 33:No wardrobe in the room, uncomfortable mattress. Not worth £95 pounds per night ( per couple)
Review 34:Ted, the receptionist/waiter was a treasure. He was very cheerful, despite being the only member of staff on duty - obviously Cook was in kitchen - a lovely man. The whole place was very clean.
Review 35:Busy road location (I knew that on booking) but noise well dealt with by efficient double gazing.
Review 36:Very comfortable beds, friendly staff and good breakfasts. Double glazing eliminating noise from busy main road.
Review 37:Noise from neighbours next to and above the room could be heard clearly.
Review 38:Room was very luxurious and nicely decorated. Though we had a room facing the street the windows were double isolated so nothing could be heard from outside. Breakfast option were various, fresh and delicious.
Review 39:No evening food. Having to order breakfast the night before.poor quality cereal, juice, bread ,and only 1slice of toast not good for the price.Toilet paper cheap! Left to carry luggage upstairs. Lack of staff in the evenings. No lights on the path and car park in the dark at night.
Review 40:Very welcoming. Staff and owners friendly. Ideal for where we were visiting. Busy main road, but triple glazed windows so did not affect our stay. Room well-appointed. Good size. Good facilities. Bacon cooked just as we like it: very crispy. Thanks to Ted.
Review 41:Room smelt musty. Overall the hotel felt it was closed. Reception not what one would expect for £140 a night.
Review 42:Convenient location and character. Ensuite facilities were good with hot water.Breakfast was good.
Review 43:The only negative is that there is no bar after 9.30
Review 44:We had a lovely stay. Rooms aren't very big but it's enough. Staff are very friendly and breakfast was delicious, also the location is beautiful.
Review 45:No dislikes.
Review 46:The hotel was very welcoming and the staff couldn't do enough for you, the breakfast was plenty full a I would recommend the porridge. We did not eat in evening at the hotel, but went into town to try out the local bars. A short 10min walk into town where there were plenty of pubs and restaurants to visit. We were on a 3 night stay and would return again.
Review 47:Lounge / bar / breakfast area not very inviting / comfortable warm. Stayed in junior suite but it is just a large room. Also room name denoted by a piece of paper held on the door with two drawing pins.
Review 48:Room was large and comfortable. Location.
Review 49:This was our second stay here and we were not disappointed. The hotel is still beautiful, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The new owner and staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
Review 50:Dated Rooms. No way to open window as treble glazed with solid panel so room very hot. Breakfast fair but not outstanding. If you have a bar, woth Draught beers, it's a good idea to keep some in stock! Two level bath would be better as a large shower enclosure perhaps, also safer to get in and out. Electrical trunking on the wall, in the bathroom, looks unsightly. Overall it shows why the likes of Travelodge and Premier Inn do so well, which is a pity. The price: £90 per night, for a single, given the dated rooms, is too steep.
Review 51:Good location, closest I could book for Air Tattoo at Fairford. Handy to explore the Cotswolds. Room very clean and good free Wifi.
Review 52:I went to use the hairdryer and it got so hot it went bang and stopped working,
Review 53:The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent, clean and fresh. The bedroom was well presented and comfy.
Review 54:On the surface all is excellent. ..very quaint and lovely four poster room but terribly overpriced. Hair dryer was broken, rusty shower rail, staff had a blatant argument with a taxi company over attitude, salt and pepper shakers were covered in congealed egg, coffee tasted like very cheap powdered coffee. Staff were huffing and puffing as stressed. I would not stay again.
Review 55:we were told kitchen was closed but in fact it was open. Menu was only Chinese, not a problem for me but very limited. Triple glazing still failed to eliminate noise from road. "Sitz bath" was something I have not seen in hotel for many many years and fairly dangerous for old folk like us.
Review 56:Position
Review 57:The only thing I didn't like was that the hotel was on the main road, the room did have triple glazing which kept out all of the noise but this meant we couldn't open any windows
Review 58:Really nice room very clean and a comfy bed. Friendly staff
Review 59:No bad points
Review 60:The style of the building and the warm welcome on arrival. Staff very helpful throughout our 2 day stay. Rooms very comfortable and no noise of traffic from nearby road. Very close to Burford and places to eat.
Review 61:Disturbed by people rushing up and down stairs at 2 in the morning. Our door was opened at one point. We didn't stay for the second night we had boogked.
Review 62:No complaints
Review 63:Shared a twin room with my sister we had a really relaxed stay en-route to visit other family. Our room was very comfortable and we had the bonus of sampling some delicious home cooked chinese food.much appreciated and served with smiles and charming manners. Thankyou.
Review 64:The bed was too hard. Easy to remedy with pillow top mattress topper. We slept on top of duvet and it was still to hard for us.
Review 65:The location, just on the edge of Burford, was easy to find, easy to park. Room was quiet with good double glazing. Breakfast was good, staff nice.
Review 66:Too many flights of stairs for us "oldies" to climb/decend.
Review 67:Had an early start before the time for breakfast. Proprietor, without asking provided a packed breakfast each that we could take with us.
Review 68:This hotel is pleasant but not fabulous. We would stay again if in the area but I can't say it's anything special. No real complaints, staff were nice although we didn't see many and breakfast was good.
Review 69:Old gentlemen on reception with poor customer service skills Room was double booked and he had to phone and argue with manager for 20 minutes to sort it out. Was placed in the 4 poster room which was drab and disappointing. Needed a good dust and hoover and cobweb clearance. Bathroom had rusty fittings. In my opinion not a 4* establishment, no evening meals, this is more like a B & B. Manager served breakfast in the morinng in ripped jeans and trainers!
Review 70:Location was good for me.
Review 71:1st off- I booked a table for dinner at 7.30 - when I got there was told we don't do evening meals anymore we send people to the hotel down the road, the room was up steep staircase, - the room was full of old tired furniture, a wardrobe that was so small and low could only hang clothes outside it, the bed so old and creaked all night, toilet with tiny systern that it had to be flushed 4 times after use, - breakfast was booked the night before and served dead on 8.00 am- with my tea - it arrived with sausage cook day before and warm - tomatoes from tin and cold I didn't eat most of it and not asked why- when I checked out I told the manager my thoughts and he didn't reply - not a place I will stop again
Review 72:it was close to another hotel to get food from
Review 73:Bar Closed before closing time so missed out on night cap Disabled shower style bath, couldn't lay out for a soak Had to order breakfast night before which we couldn't do as reception was locked so couldn't have choice of porridge
Review 74:Bathroom accessories were lacking. I couldn't shower because no shower cap available. There was also a split level bath which stopped me from being able to have a bath.
Review 75:Lovely comfy bed.
Review 76:The main issue with this hotel is the location. The pictures do not do justice to the fact it is kerbside to a very busy main road, with lots of traffic noise. We had to choose our breakfast selection the day before and it was limited to the number of (cooked) items. We also had to state the time we wanted breakfast. The earliest time was 8am which was a little late for touring purposes. There appeared to be ongoing decorating works. We stayed 2 nights but in that time only saw 1 member of staff - on reception, general enquiries and breakfast waiter.
Review 77:The local village is a short walk away with a good selection of eating options.
Review 78:Badly rusted Crome grab handles in the bathroom, rusty bin and mould on the ceiling. On a busy main road.
Review 79:A lovely 6 foot bed and very high quality bed linen.
Review 80:Breakfast was not served until 8:00 am. This would not allow me to getto work on time. Had to move to a different hotel with earlierbreakfast.
Review 81:Very comfortable bed.
Review 82:The room we had was cold no heating on at all in b&b, and even in the breakfast room in morning you needed a jumper on.The breakfast was not very good mushrooms out of a tin not fresh,as you would expect. will not be returning.
Review 83:Close to main attractions like the Slaughters, Bourton on the water,Stow on the wold,Moreton in marsh and Burford.
Review 84:Despite the detailed instructions in the room stating the bar was open until 11 pm in the summer we were told to go to bed at 10 30.
Review 85:The bed was comfortable and the breakfast good.
Review 86:A lot of the metal work in the bathroom was rusty ie the shower rail, disabled bar to get out of the bath, bin lid, also you can hear the traffic from the main road and people in the room next door
Review 87:The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. There is a good range for breakfast
Review 88:Really bad black mould underneath the window in our bedroom, pubic hairs on the bathroom floor and a mouldy shower curtain.
Review 89:The location was nice and the hotel and rooms were nicely decorated.
Review 90:Our room had a Jacuzzi which was not working.
Review 91:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast cooked to order. Did not do evening meal so we ordered takeaway and lent us plates to sit in dining to eat.
Review 92:No staff presence in evenings. No lighting in main areas in evenings. Side door left open all night and security an issue. No central heating and tiny blow heater in main dining room. Cheap and wrong impressions all round .poor quality toasted bread, orange juice and freezing cold main areas with no heating.
Review 93:would not recommend and would not return
Review 94:We felt that, for the price £130 pn, that little things like face cloths, shower caps etc could have been provided. Toast appeared to be limited at breakfast. Came to pay and no wi fi connection - had to walk into town to get cash. Assme this was a one-off!
Review 95:Friendly Oriental gentleman on Reception. He appeared to do everything else too.
Review 96:Location is not as convenient as other local hotels. It's a 10 minute walk from high street. Hence only people from the hotel use the bar. Resukts in a lack of atmosphere and activity.
Review 97:Newly decorated, pleasant staff.
Review 98:Bar could have been a little more atmospheric and a little on the expensive side.
Review 99:The roses and petals on the bed were a nice touch for Valentines night. Good quality breakfast.
Review 100:ON APPROACH, LOVELY BUILDING, GENTLEMAN ON RECEPTION VERY NICE WITH A BIG SMILE. VERY GOOD DECO, AND EXCELLENT ROOMS. CANNOT FAULT THIS PLACE. WELL DONE..
Review 101:The lodge is situated next to a busy road, but to be honest it didn't bother us. The lodge was cold in the lounge area not just in temperature but in feel of the place, just not very homely. However the staff do try to look after you and are always there if you want anything.
Review 102:The lodge is well located, only a short walk to restaurants and pubs. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. We stayed in the Junior Suite which was very comfortable and lots of heaters for warmth. (We visited in Jan) I would say this is more of a B&B not a hotel.
Review 103:from our room we could hear everything going on outside in the hallway and the other rooms
Review 104:Nice room and bathroom; lovely breakfast in the morning (lots of choices); fireplace in the restaurant area.
Review 105:Shame that our room only had a shower and no bath. A bit of a tricky one but I don't always know what I want for breakfast the next day - i like to look and see and make my decision in that morning. I know it's helpful for them to have a list so they know what they are cooking for breakfast the following day, but i found it a bit strange being given a list as soon as I arrived to tick as soon as possible and give back . Also the list assumed a cooked breakfast was required, whereas I might have preferred just to have cereals and toast. I would have liked to choose in the morning. The cereals and toast option could be ticked on the list i suppose. It wasn't until my second morning though that I saw the cereals. They were difficult to see as the tiny containers are hidden behind a pillar so you don't see them despite them being there to help yourself to! The shower cubicle could have been a bit cleaner- the grouting is quite marked/discoloured in various places. Also the toilet door didn't seem to lock. The door into the room seemed difficult to unlock/open and then hard to know how to lock it from the inside. the locks on both doors were a bit strange. I know it was a very cold couple of days, but the breakfast area felt pretty cold both mornings despite fan heaters going. It would be good to be a bit warmer there, as the room is so lovely and warm. It's a shame they don't use the breakfast area as a restaurant in the evenings.
Review 106:Staff very helpful and polite and friendly. Lovely bed- firm in itself but soft and warm because of the mattress protector underneath the sheet. Very light but thick duvet.- could get a bit too hot at times especially with the heating on. Good shower and plenty of hot water with a full shower head that worked perfectly. Very nice to have bottles of shampoo/shower gel and hand wash and body lotion too. Very good cooked breakfast and speedy breakfast service and big variety of cooked items to have. Generally a nice place. Perfect location. Easy to walk into Burford within 7-10 minutes, and that means you can drink with your meal in the evenings, or enjoy the walk into the town and do what you want in Burford without worrying about parking. Easy to drive to lovely Cotswold villages and towns from here, though if you're here only a short time Burford will give you plenty to enjoy.
Review 107:Bit of condensation about - probably due to rooms using fan heaters rather than proper central heating - clearly this would be a massive investment though.
Review 108:Friendly staff. Decent breakfast. We had the junior suite which was well proportioned and tidily furnished. Good room.
Review 109:No restaurant and a bar area that was not inviting at all. No Xmas lights switched on and no fire going due to fuel running low . More choices for breakfast
Review 110:Room was to a good standard . Bed was comfortable albeit a compact double . Bathroom was acceptable although bath was a sit in bath .
Review 111:The staff were friendly and helpful which was important as I was travelling with a toddler which can be challenging. The staff accommodated him at meal times and did what they could to help. The hotel was not busy when we stayed but I think their helpfulness would transfer even if it was busy. Plenty of space in our room and lovely clean crisp sheets and towels. The cooked breakfast was good. All in all a great stay for a good price. I hate paying a huge amount for hotels that quite frankly don't warrant the cost, this little hotel was good value.
Review 112:Having stayed at this accommodation in the past (prior owners), it could do with the restaurant being reopened. Breakfast could also have done with being earlier for a business traveller (earliest was 08.00am).
Review 113:The shower was a definite case of form over function! A walk-in shower with doors difficult to close and absolutely no place for any soaps, gels etc other than on the floor.
Review 114:The staff were very helpful and friendly
Review 115:The room was cold . The heating had not been turned on in preparation for our stay. The entrance area was cold and the gas fire only on at night .
Review 116:Lovely comfortable bed Nice bedding Friendly helpful staff Nice bar area
Review 117:Having to order breakfast by 10.00pm the night before and saying exactly what you want. No dining facilities in the evening.
Review 118:Great location, friendly staff, room was comfortable and clean. Ample free parking
Review 119:The prop rioters have little concern for guests. The room we were given was second floor attic (having paid £140, not a cheap rate offer that is available) which was very noisy. At breakfast there was no heating in the bar which left us extremely cold. (Supported by cleaner). When we requested a room change we were told none available). Unbelievable when there were only two others staying at the time. No sympathy from owners so I left after one night still being made to pay for two. I can have little faith in ' Booking.com as long as you support premises like this.
Review 120:I only stayed one night having had to pay for two
Review 121:Twin beds need to be 3ft wide & not 2ft 6 as not comfortable for adults . Sausages should be local & minimum 90% meat , & local sourced eggs, & bacon . As there is a lovely butchers in the village selling all these products . Needs some atmosphere
Review 122:Location , & parking .
Review 123:I had to book these rooms at very short notice for two of our clients who were here from New Zealand. They were delighted with the hotel facilities and said the staff were very friendly and efficient and would certainly stay there on there next visit, it is also very close to Burford which is the gateway to the Cotswolds.
Review 124:Traffic noise as hotel is on the very busy A40 have to cross this road to go into Burford
Review 125:Nice comfy room, breakfast very good staff very helpful and friendly
Review 126:Absolutely nothing!
Review 127:The property was clean, and very quiet when you consider it is situated right next to the A40. The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely relaxed atmosphere - just what was needed. We left feeling our holiday break had already started. Excellent value for money.
Review 128:no dinner
Review 129:Old world charm with up to date facilities. Good size room with very comfortable 4 poster bed. Excellent breakfast. Very courteous and friendly staff. Good location for access to Burford centre. Great for getaway.
Review 130:Wifi didn't work in room but to be fair, I didn't follow it up with the staff
Review 131:Friendly attentive staff Lovely rooms, nicely decorated Good breakfast
Review 132:Nothing at all
Review 133:We had the junior suite which was lovley. Very spacious nicely decorated and huge bathroom. We were not disturbed by road noise at all. Staff very friendly enjoyed our weekend break hotel with character.
Review 134:bathroom in oxford room the shower needs fixing asap. I don't expect to have to stand and hold the shower in my hand. also we got wet feet every time we went in the bathroom, the tiles when you pressed down on them water came up through the grout. Not Good
Review 135:hotel, staff and breakfast were very good also ideal location.
Review 136:Not the friendliest of welcome; no help with our bags and definitely not what I had expected from previous reviews. Would definitely put me off from staying again.
Review 137:Location was very good with Burford town being a short walk away. The breakfast was substantial and very tasty.
