Reviews for The Heights Bunkhouse
Review 1:Not impressed there were no kitchen facilities was a minus, this meant you had to go out for food or wait till the bar opened at 12, you couldn't even make a hot drink when you got up! Also no laundry facilities, the weather was extremely wet over our weekend stay this meant wet clothes hanging around in the dorms. But nice for anyone.
Review 2:The bar being open to the public made it nice and busy. The location of the heights was central which was good.
Review 3:No chair in the room, no wifi in the room, bunk bed was inadequate, no, worse, one of the crossmembers was broken.
Review 4:Lively bar, great location, free parking
Review 5:Doors in the Hotel tend to bang shut a bit much
Review 6:Very clean and spacious comfy bed Excellent hot showers after 26.2 miles run in wet weather! Despite a bar downstairs it was pretty quiet on a busy weekend
Review 7:No bedding, no toilet paper, no blind on the window, no breakfast. As basic as you could imagine... And not particularly cheap
Review 8:Location was fantastic
Review 9:expensive as there is no service at all ! No bedding , not breakfast , heater is off during night ! ( freezing cold ! !!) 2 people for 50 pounds for one night !! ( YHA only cost me 45 pounds with lovely staffs , bedding , heating all over the nights ! )
Review 10:the only good thing is good location
Review 11:No heating on Wednesday Thursday or Saturday evening. No drying room or self catering facilities No common room to relax other than the bar no breakfast
Review 12:room to ourselves
Review 13:They took payment for 3 beds in a 4 bed dorm, moved us into an 8 bed dorm on arrival which they assured us would be empty. We went to bed early around 10pm - long day of climbing both behind and ahead. Obviously four drunk blokes barreled in at 1:30am, also expecting it to be empty. A symphony of snoring followed. Just shocking customer service - they will take your money and lie to your face.
Review 14:Best thing you can say is it's in Llanberis.
Review 15:the beds creak. there was trash on the floor and we were the only people in the room. toilet paper in the loo. they have a system that you remove your bed covering before you leave, but they have no way of keeping track of that. due to the trash in my bed, i can only assume the previous occupant didn't remove their bed cover. we are dinner down stairs. the table was sticky. fish and chips looked good, but the batter was pretty horrible. the chips were good and the beer was tasty.
Review 16:beautiful area. we could walk to rock climbing.
Review 17:I expected the room to be a little noisy until closing time at the pub, but I didn't expect a lock in with music blaring until 3am. I hate complaining but had to ask for it to be turned down - it was a little, but not much. Not great when you want a good sleep.
Review 18:the shower didn't have hot water and there are no facilities for self catering. It'd be good if they had an accessible fridge even...
Review 19:Great location. Fun pub down stairs with good food.
Review 20:Very basic - not even curtains at the window! A bit noisy at night, but Wales had just beaten England in the Rugby
Review 21:Food in the bar was excellent and very good value
Review 22:Very basic but what I expected. The location is superb and the bar below is spot on. I would usually book a hotel but myself and a friend decided to have a cheap few days as all we wanted to do was have a few walks and a bite to eat and a few drinks and this was perfect. I will definitely return.
Review 23:The mattress was a bit soft and lumpy and the bed oversprung. I'd have preferred a simple and quite hard mattress.
Review 24:Good, clean, basic BUNKHOUSE accommodation: don't expect too much from it and remember you'll need to bring your own sleeping-bag / bedding, pillow, towels and soap.
Review 25:Is £16 a night so cheap that you're not given the extreme basics that anyone expects from a dorm room? I had read on the reviews that they didn't supply blankets but you could rent one for "a few pounds". They were £10 per night. Almost as much as the bed itself - and mo pillow and no sheet. I'm sorry, but who backpacks around with a sheet in their bag??? No blanket - fine, it was summer, but I know now why it was empty despite the great location, not offering a sheet and a pillow is ridiculous and when questioned it was "because it was so cheap". It was double the price of our london hostel, and proper rooms with breakfast were going for £5 extra just up the road. Unfortunately we'd already paid.
Review 26:Great location right in the centre of town and we got an empty dorm room all to ourselves which was great
Review 27:The bunk beds were very very noisey when anybody moved during the night.... Bathroom fan made a very loud noise when the light was turned on. Also very dear drinks for the location.
Review 28:Being with friends in the same room.
Review 29:Great location, helpful staff, excellent bar, and a great price. I had a bed in a four bed room all to my self which was nice. I forgot to bring a pillow which made for a slightly uncomfortable night.
Review 30:There was absolutely no security on the door. You could lock from the inside, I admit, but during the day anyone could come in from the bar below. I noted that other rooms weren't like this, so that may be only the room I was in. I had locks on my baggage and a bicycle lock attaching my bag to the bed, but other people who aren't prepared should note this. Also, the shower had only two settings: off, or almost literally boiling. I had to wash in the sink. In general, I just think people should note that this is not a traditional hostel, and should expect the bare minimum of facilities.
Review 31:I thought the location was excellent, the staff pretty friendly, the room pretty clean, and the rates were reasonable
Review 32:The bed was very uncomfortable and noisy Although wifi is available and free, we could not get a signal for the whole trip but this was minimal issue really as we weren't there to browse the Internet.
Review 33:Loved the location, en suite in room, staff friendly, great atmosphere, no hassle and zero stress throughout trip. Room was clean and felt safe. Value for money was fantastic Mattress protector provided which was great Stunning location
Review 34:bottom bunk was bent, continuous noise from door slamming from staff quarters throughout the night. No working light in bathroom and tap came off in my hand during first attempt of using it. rooms could do with a thorough check for cleanliness.
Review 35:Staff, food and location very good. Overall, I'd come again and would'nt be put off, you get what you pay for...will bring ear plugs!!!
Review 36:Please put on the back of the door in dorms your 2i fimcode and the room door code as well as food serving times and bar prices.xxx
Review 37:Location , food..staff..xx
Review 38:The venue is not open for breakfast.
Review 39:The dinner is good. We had ribs. The wifi signal was strong. There was a good mix of locals and mountain hikers.
Review 40:Staff did not know much about local events, transport or amenities, but helpful anyway. Shower was broken and not even hand soap available in bathroom.
Review 41:Location was great, also nice pub atmosphere. Staff very kind and willing to help.
Review 42:basic rooms which is ok, but uncomfortable beds and room got loads of noise from the bar beneath. ok if stag do etc but not if attending needing good nights sleep if competing in an event
Review 43:could do with a mirror in the ladies 8 bed bunkroom. door hits the radiator when people are coming and going in the night and it wakes everyone.
Review 44:staff are polite , and helpful. café/bar buzzing in the evening, didn't eat but the food looked amazing. as a women travelling alone I felt comfortable. I would deff stay again and sample the food next time All in all great place to stay.
Review 45:Mattresses were comfortable but beds creaked a lot. There was no hot water on arrival but was fixed by second day. Bathroom in another room was offered until fixed.
Review 46:Manager was very helpful and food good. Value for money and location good.
Review 47:It was OK, but they should've mentioned that they do not provide bedding, so that you'd know to bring a sleeping bag/sack. The shower was pretty much useless.
Review 48:Good location, and clean.
Review 49:The shower was just boiling water. When we left in the morning (around 10am) there was nobody to let know that we were leaving. No indication to the reception.
Review 50:The location was perfect and the fact that there is a bar in the property.
Review 51:The only thing there is no bedlinen but they say on the website so you have to bring or rent/buy a sleep bag from them.
Review 52:The good location, the wifi was good everywhere, the staff was great, very nice and friendly! We would definitely stay there again!
Review 53:No hot water in shower. No bed sheets, pillow or blanket. Rental of sleeping bag is £10.
Review 54:Friendly staff. Good food in the pub that it's attached to.
Review 55:Freezing cold shower. No pillow or sheets on the bed.
Review 56:The heights was in a good location in the centre of Llanberis, just a 10 minute drive from the Pen-y-Pass car park. The bar was stocked with a good variety of lager and had a good atmosphere. We didn't eat but the food looked very good. The staff were very friendly.
Review 57:The facilities manager cut my security cabel, dumped my gear at the bottom of the stairwell (breaking the screen of my netbook). Gave me the choice of a room with mold on the toilet walls, or to get out.
Review 58:The location
Review 59:Booking had been confused. No breakfast or facilities to make any. Not all the dorms had locks, and no secure storage for luggage in rooms. Noise from pub downstairs.
Review 60:Good pub and food down stairs and well located for Snowdon walk
Review 61:It is my first time to stay in a hostel which requires guests to bringtheir own sleeping bags; otherwise £10 will be charged for renting asleeping bag per night and 20 will be charged for buying one. It'sridiculous!
Review 62:The room is clean and has its separate bathroom
Review 63:- The fact that you have to bring your own bed linen ( sleeping bag/ pillow). It is mentioned in the booking but it is quite an unusual request and can quite easily be missed when booking. - Hot shower wasn't working in our room but an optional shower location was advised to us in another room. Not a major problem but a slight inconvenience.
Review 64:- Good location for snowden. - Staff were nice
Review 65:Could do with access to hot water in the morning for a coffee or to fill a flask.
Review 66:Great place for sitting out in the sun with good food. Friendly and lively with a great mix of people.
Review 67:No lock on the door to the room, no working light in the bathroom, 1 broken bed.
Review 68:Good location, close to Snowdon. Pub was nice, with good food at reasonable prices.
Review 69:I arrived on a Friday evening, headed up to the bar (because this where the what so called manager office is, a real mess). I started talking to the person who led me to the room (you expect the staff or manager to be friendly, but this was not the case), he stopped me (yes he cut me off as he didn't want to talk), showed me the room and that's it. The only positive point was that immediately they let me change room...We were six girls in a dormitory all very friendly and all with the same thoughts, the staff is not friendly at all. the comfort, well the bed are super noisy, (I didn't care about the quality of the mattress, some do), the noise just outside the window was quite high for some of the girls (drunk people). the dormitory was not clean as well as the toilet. the next day in the morning we had to change dormitory because the handle door broke, went to another one and I can say that when you see spider web you know they don't bother cleaning well. The shower was full of hair how come when the dormitory was supposed to be cleaned before. In my three days, I haven't seen one of the staff smiling especially to non Welsh person. So do you appreciate that non Welsh and foreign people come to your bunkhouse??? In summary I have been to many places and I'd rather going to a refugee on a mountain because there you'll always find smiling and very friendly people. One positive point, the food is not bad and they have vegetarian options. In summary it would be nice to make people feel like they are welcome even if it's a bunkhouse and the price is less than 20£ we know that. there are other places in Llanberis at low cost and super nice as well.
Review 70:One positive point, the food is not bad and they have vegetarian options.
Review 71:bit noisy. We didn't mind as our children will sleep through anything but anyone looking for peaceful quiet accomodation might not want to sleep above a bar .
Review 72:Good fun atmosphere. Helpful welcoming staff and clean accomodation .
Review 73:The metal bunks squeaked terribly when people rolled over - not good if you have active sleepers in the group. The female half of our group had a room with no curtains which was not ideal; but they managed an ingenious bodge with two spare mattress protectors, some hair bands and some water bottles!
Review 74:Simple booking process and ability to cancel up until a day before made booking in a large group at relatively short notice an easy process.
Review 75:Noisy after midnight if you want an early start, bed mattress was very thin and not much support and metal bunk beds squeak every time either person on top or bottom moves, no locks on toilet/shower room door and no lockers for valuables.
Review 76:Location was perfect smack bang central Llanberris. Loved the bar, the food was good value, excellant quality and big portions although no breakfast available ( Pete's eats is 200 yards down the road and does a great variety of breakfasts) , staff friendly Very welcoming, lots of free car parking spaces
Review 77:Well the most disappointing thing was the Sleeping bags they provided . . They were far too small . I was charged £20 to rent it but I got a tenner back . However I would have paid £40 if only the bag was a decent size . .
Review 78:When I was there I didn't complain at all as there is no point. Tried to make the best of it.
Review 79:Delicious food, helpful and approachable staff, close proximity to Snowdon and snowdon railway, lake other side of building, easy bus connection to Bangor railway.
Review 80:The rooms are just above the bar, where there was shouting, banging, slamming door etc till gone 1.30am.. Not good when I had to get up early the following day. No facilities to make a coffee or tea, the room was far too hot!
Review 81:The showers were nice and hot
Review 82:Probably my fault but I didn't realise that bedding wasn't provided they did however rent me a sleeping bag although I had to wait a while before I could get my deposit refunded
Review 83:Poor toilet facilities.one toilet and shower for the room which isn't great in the morning. Ended up going down stairs to the bar toilets which after a Saturday night aren't in the best of conditions. Low overall cleanliness.
Review 84:Easy access, good parking. Amazing staff.
Review 85:- No lock on the bedroom door - Bedding not provided (This is not a negative for me as I bring my own sleeping bag but 3 others in my room didn't have one and it's not made clear when you book that you need one)
Review 86:Stayed in a female 8 bunk dorm which had a shower and toilet between us, the room was clean and warm and bed was comfortable and even though the bar was packed with it being a bank holiday when I stayed, it did not make a difference when I went to sleep, you could barely hear the noise from downstairs and my room window faced the beer garden/ carpark area. - Value for money - Food was nice - Centre of village if you wanted a walk around places, easily accessible - Big carpark
Review 87:No sheets, blankets or pillows were provided, you're supposed to use your own sleeping bag, which most people coming here already have with them, I guess. Bathroom was really dirty, and the lights didn't work!
Review 88:location, right on the main street next to a lake, just above a pub if that's what you want. Supermarket is just in front, also free parking and wifi.
Review 89:very busy - no food possible as too busy. no breakfast offered. beds broken and very squeaky. got booking wrong but did find us room
Review 90:Location, free parking, atmosphere
Review 91:No real problem but the shower really needed a good service, spoit the lovely warm en-suite wash room.Room 202.
Review 92:Lovely Victorian property, fabulous views from room, clean, warm and functional, easy going staff.A 4 bedded bunk room was perfect for our family.
Review 93:Online phone number wrong. Checkin 10am-2pm is wrong - can check in to 10pm. Breakfast is not provided - use another hotel or Spar shop across the road.
Review 94:Location, warm, dry, pub drinks and eating downstairs but not noisy upstairs.
Review 95:Some secure bike storage would make the place perfect, this isn't criticism, just an observation.
Review 96:Staff were really accommodating trying to keep our group together even though we had several different bookings to aggregate. They didn't mind is keeping our bikes in the rooms
Review 97:No one answers the phone. No one answered when I banged on the window. No lights, no unlocked doors even though I had seen people enter the premises. Check in was from 10 am and by 10:30 I have up and stayed somewhere else. Pin code I was given was wrong. Not quite sure what I was actually paying for as I has to take my own bedding. Will never stay here again, or recommend it to anyone.
Review 98:Nothing
Review 99:Had trouble with the shower, there was a complication over which room we were allocated.
Review 100:was quieter than I had expected given that it is on top of a pub, room was relatively clean and tidy.
Review 101:The mattresses are quite thin and push through the bars of the bed. There are no rails or hanging space for any of the wet kit you come off the mountain with. There was quite a lot of noise outside until a few hours after the pub had closed.
Review 102:The property was warm and dry in the middle of Llanberis. The room has a bed/mattress and is ensuite with a decent hot electric shower.
Review 103:there was no bedding, the beds were very uncomfortable, there was one very small shower with extremely low water pressure and no mirror for up to 6 women in one room!
Review 104:great location
Review 105:No bedding you pay for a mattress in a room with multiple bunk beds. girl at reception kindly gave me an old one of hers, other females checked in with same problem. Need to make clear on website when booking that you need bedding it is in the Fine Print but as all of us checked in without it then it needs making clearer. No self catering facilities and nowhere to sit apart from a noisy bar area so confined to room. Went down for food at 8pm on Saturday night and they had closed the kitchen as they were so busy. Wasn't clean either smelt of damp, freezing cold room even though radiator was on.
Review 106:WIFI Location
Review 107:Expensive bar
Review 108:Better than camping. Comfy beds. Hot shower. Helpful staff
Review 109:Everything - service, the hotel . The worst one I've ever been
Review 110:Location was quite as its in a village and quite central
Review 111:Would have liked to let my well behaved dog into the annex part of the bar when it was quiet
Review 112:Location and value for money
Review 113:Wasn't aware that there was no bedding.
Review 114:Great location and the pub was cosy.
Review 115:Maybe bar area needs an up date
Review 116:Clean room with en suite . Bar nice friendly feel . Food lovely
Review 117:A pillow would of been nice...
Review 118:Great location and staff. Friendly warm atmosphere.
Review 119:basic! ideal for what we wanted
Review 120:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was ideal and the pub served great food!!
Review 121:Good location...no nonsense place to stay...room clean...friendly enough staff...
Review 122:Needed more staff for rat race evening party.
Review 123:Great location. Evening meals good.
Review 124:The rooms are located directly above the pub, where loud music is played until late evening. The linen is not provided.
Review 125:Very good location
Review 126:Shower didn't work despite being told it was new!
Review 127:Price, location, staff were good
Review 128:The facility can use a bit of maintenance from time to time.
Review 129:Great location, great staff
Review 130:Friendly staff and great lication
Review 131:Friendly and efficient staff always eager to help. Made us feel really welcome.
Review 132:Creaky bed, but very cheap so cant complain
Review 133:The breakfast and the Snowden routes!
Review 134:No curtains in room, on full view to people in car park & street!
Review 135:It was cold and difficult to find staff as they are busy with the restaurant
Review 136:It was a bed and the location was good
Review 137:No access to a kettle
Review 138:Great bar and food.
The Fine Print
Please note that no bedding or towels are offered at the property and guests are advised to bring sleeping bags. There is a lively bar on site. Noise is possible whilst the bar is open.
