Reviews for The Red Lion Hotel

Review 1:Great sea views. Very friendly staff. Some lovely touches such as bath robes and 'treat' basket in the room with wine, chocolate etc and an honesty box for payment.

Review 2:It is a shame that our view was of scaffolding.

Review 3:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Always cheerful and happy to help. Very proffesional. Very good range of ales and superb food.

Review 4:Structure / age of building means that there is noise from above / rooms next door. This is probably unavoidable, but did spoil our sleep.

Review 5:Staff are fab, pub and restaurant are my favourite in Cromer by a long way

Review 6:There could have been a little more variety on the menu but it was just after the xmas and new year period so might be expected and it didnt detract from our enjoyment of our winter break.

Review 7:We've stayed here before and we weren't disappointed . Staff were friendly and always keen to help and offer advice. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable with a view of the sea. The bar has a cosy log fire, with comfortable chairs. The food here is always yummy and well cooked and presented. They also do welcome dogs which is great.

Review 8:Do not choose Scrambled egg with your breakfast.

Review 9:Very clean and comfortable. Swivel base settee so it could be positioned for the sea view or to face into the room. Mini bar with snacks and selection of drinks in room.

Review 10:Nothing bad at all.

Review 11:We loved everything about our stay. Hotel was in a perfect location one side led to the town centre and the other to seaside. Staff was super friendly and attentive. The rooms were a great size , beautiful sea view, and very clean! Food was delicious... 5 stars all around!will definitely be staying again and highly recommend!

Review 12:The small TV in the room placed at an odd angle to the viewing area and sadly our room had no view!

Review 13:The friendly staff and locality to shops, cinema and pier

Review 14:The lovely attitude of all the staff. If we needed anything they were eager to help. I organised a surprise for my dads 70th and they were very helpful..

Review 15:The bed was rather uncomfortable

Review 16:The service was excellent from check in, ordering in the restaurant to check out. Really attentive staff who were happy to help.

Review 17:paid lot extra for upgrade to a sea view which consisted of barely one small window out of three Waited ages for breakfast allthough restaurant not busy, when food arrived all overdone obviously left to spoil in kitchen Disadvantaged booking a pet friendly room even though we had to pay a lot extra for the pets

Review 18:The staff really need some extra training in communication and customer relations. Friendly enough but not terribly efficient.

Review 19:We liked where it is and the size and comfort of the room .

Review 20:Rather firm beds but appreciate that this a personal preference, off-street parking is limited but manageable.

Review 21:Good restaurant, friendly can do attitude, excellent breakfast selection

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Arrived on 4/11/15 for one night. The staff were very attentive and always had a smile on their face's when dealing with guests. The place was very busy for a Wednesday and there was a lovely ambience throughout the bar and lounge area. Room 14 was spotless with a lovely sea view. Food great, the breakfast was top draw. Would defiantly go back to the Red Lion.

Review 24:Staff were pleasant and very helpful. The breakfast was particularly good and well presented with a wide choice to suit all tastes. We ate in the hotel on both nights we stayed and again were not disappointed with the choice and quality of the meals. A very good value out of season "short break", and we would have no hesitation in coming again and recommending to others

Review 25:Almost everything!... the staff and management were great, food fab, atmosphere cozy and inviting only negative was TV didn't work properly but probs a seagull sat in the way!

Review 26:Great location in the heart of Cromer. All the staff were very helpful and friendly creating a nice atmosphere. Room was spotless and comfortable. Food also excellent.

Review 27:Minor things. Took our dog and were charged 7.50 which is a bit steep as he's a small terrier. You never get a room with a view with a dog. Breakfast was good but my partner would have liked black pudding as shown in the pictures!

Review 28:Location was right on the front. Very good sized room and very comfy bed. Had an evening meal there which was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had a dog with us and they provided bowls, bedding and treats. Would use again as a base to explore the area.

Review 29:Full English Breakfast was individually cooked and not the dried up buffet option that so many hotels prefer to offer these days. The breakfast tea, and the tea in the room was loose leaf and not tea bags - a nice little touch. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Review 30:This is an amazing hotel to stay at. As soon as we go to the hotel we were checked in by Anna who remembers us every year she gave us a lovely warm welcome. We ate in the hotel that night and the food was amazing and exceptional value. Our room was overlooking the sea and was so lovely decorated and very clean, there was everything you needed in the room from dressing gowns to nibbles and fresh water. Our breakfast was delicious with lots to choose from served by Kirsty and nothing was too much for her she was so friendly and helpful. Our stay at this hotel was perfect thank you to the wonderful staff :)

Review 31:The room we were allocated was over the kitchen so found it noisy if we opened the window. The bed was very hard which is something we are not used to.

Review 32:Very helpful staff. Main bar and lounge area very comfortable and relaxing. Great location and brilliant parking facilities.

Review 33:Was told we couldnt have our meal after 730 as they had a party coming in. We were not told this when we arrived. we were told that we didnt have to book, initially. Husband was then served chicken chips and potatoes, no vegatables, Attending waiter didnt return. Spoilt our first evening, we didnt eat there again. Bedroom was ridiculously hot, we think we were above the kitchen, as the heating was not on. Shower was freezing, worked on the first night not on the next.

Review 34:position of hotel on the front

Review 35:Drains smell in Bathroom Kettle for a cuppa needed replacing due to rust and limescale Didn't know dogs were allowed in the eating areas also didn't know there was that many dogs.??

Review 36:Restr. Team first class. Food was excellent at breakfast.

Review 37:Only down fall , the windows did not open. But otherwise very very nice.

Review 38:We'll this place looks like a English pub, but the rooms are just so clean, nicely laid out and fresh. I really liked this place and we'll done to the staff . Breakfast was so nice, kippers are too die for fat, juicy, lovely taste.

Review 39:My superior room had a lovely quirky little bay window overlooking the sea, with a neatly placed chair and table. Beautiful! And breakfast included in the price, was lovely.

Review 40:Lack of space in public ares, particularly for residents. Food expensive and lack of choice or healthy options. Eat our dinners elsewhere.

Review 41:Location, room, friendliness and efficiency of the staff.

Review 42:You have to like dogs or at least be neural about them. We had no problems.

Review 43:The position is so central Car parking is available for residents Friendly helpful staff - owner(s) making a really effective effort with a huge elderly and so an attractive building. Attractive good quality room Bar/Restaurant with a good buzz Very relaxed easy atmosphere

Review 44:The car parking was difficult when it was very busy and there seemed to be no system to reserve spaces for guests of the hotel. The whole building so hot it felt like a care home.

Review 45:Great location, and a very nice room. The minibar was fairly priced. The bath was nice, and quick to fill. I liked the furniture, and artwork too.

Review 46:The locatin was fantastic with the added bonus of our room overlooking the Sea .Attention to detail was Excellent starting with the individualised personal welcome letter .Although there has been some improvements in the decor and facilities , these have been done well without loosing the traditional feel of the original building.A lovely boutique hotel in the heart of this historic seaside location

Review 47:The only complaint we had was that our room was directly over the kitchen which as the weather was also warm made it quite warm in there.

Review 48:The hotel was very good. Staff very polite and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 49:We found the rooms very hot at night (although it was a warm summers weekend) and the shower lacked pressure. But these did not detract greatly from a very good stay.

Review 50:Location and restaurant were excellent, staff were very helpful.

Review 51:Wifi didn't work for us on the upper floor.

Review 52:The Red Lion has an beautiful outlook over the beach. The food is high quality and breakfast was excellent. Staff very helpful and attentive. We had a fab stay.

Review 53:Unfortunately the shower was much too hot, so used the bath which instead. No other complaints.

Review 54:The location, the staff were excellent & the cleanliness was superb would recommend.

Review 55:lovely friendly staff, comfortable room. could be better with chairs to sit on. breakfast very good I would suggest that you should make sure guests know there is no lift before booking. no problem for us but it could be for elderly guests.

Review 56:Room was on 2nd floor and we didn't realise there was no lift. Wasn't a problem for us but might be for other guests.

Review 57:The whole experience was great - lovely room, very pleasant staff, good food and wine and nice location with good sea views.

Review 58:A bit noisy as our room faced the side street. Wifi not the best. Breakfast value for money wasn't very good . May want to add some security for food /beverages charged to room - we were charged for dinner and drinks which we didn't have - good thing I checked the bill.

Review 59:Location and character of hotel. Dog friendly.

Review 60:Our room was over the kitchen so did get a bit of noise during service.

Review 61:Great hotel with comfy rooms, lovely restaurant and bar, have stayed here 3 times and always enjoy it. We dined here and the food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 62:Found that despite the room info book saying the Sunday room service finished at 2130hrs, it actually finished at 2100hrs. No discretion or flexibility by management for a sandwich at 2115hrs, had to go to a nearby Chinese takeaway. Not a major issue but nuisance value.

Review 63:The location is brilliant, top of the cliff steps, brilliant views from the bar. Very very dog friendly and staff very caring towards our golden retriever.

Review 64:Location is very good close to the beach, shops and places to eat out. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was good. They even brought a plate with a sausage on for our dog molly's breakfast. which was a lovely touch

Review 65:The town offers few places to eat in the evening. Almost everywhere was shut. So nice hotel in the wrong town.

Review 66:Good view. Really nice staff, always helpful. A comfortable pub hotel.

Review 67:Very expensive for what it was. £115 for single occupancy is way over the odds for Cromer.

Review 68:Beer quality was excellent. Food very good. Art work on the walls was much more thoughtful that usually found.

Review 69:Not a thing not to like!

Review 70:the room was perfect! Comfortable and clean! The view was spectacular! The staff couldn't be more helpful and accomodating! Would recommend to anyone!

Review 71:The specials board could have had more variety. We stayed for 7 nights and exhausted the menu

Review 72:The staff were both helpful and friendly. The atmosphere in the bar and lounge was very good.

Review 73:Room over kitchen and extrater fan came on at six in the morning till nine at night...also two single beds pushed together not comfortable in the middle and 115 pounds a night bit steep for window outlooking Indian restaurant next door

Review 74:Food very good altho little on expensive side for a pub..staff friendly

Review 75:Certain of the route planning organizations give confusing directions. The hotel car park at the rear is easy to locate but I would recommend asking the hotel directly to give you directions.

Review 76:The location over-looking the sea is superb and it had the advantage of having a free car park on site. We had the large room at the front of the hotel with it's own balcony. The room was comfortable with a lounge area from which we could look out over the sea.The bathroom has a large walk in shower and a roll top bath in which one can luxuriate whilst also looking out over the sea.

Review 77:Car park is quite small so if all 15 rooms are full I'm not sure you would get parked onsite.

Review 78:Well appointed room and although this is basically a large pub style hotel the noise levels were low. Good selection of beers in the bar and bar food represents good value,

Review 79:Had evening meal in hotel. Good choice but spoilt by one main course of grilled plaice that turned out to be very sloppy with very little flesh on the plaice. Offered a free dessert but would have preferred good main course. Otherwise the food was good.

Review 80:The room was clean and comfortable, close to the pier and town., Hotel was v.clean and staff very welcoming and friendly.

Review 81:Parking was a case of if I take the car will I get parked when i get back.

Review 82:Staff very helpfull, had to be moved due to noisey people next door. Lost the sea view but the staff couldnt be more helpfull.

Review 83:Nothing to dislike at all.

Review 84:The staff were friendly, professional and sooo polite. the hotel was clean, comfortable and stylish and the attention to detail was lovely.

Review 85:Traditional, welcoming old building but with modern standards. Great location by the sea. Really good food, log fire. All round we couldn't have chosen better, would definitely go again and recommend to friends

Review 86:Rooms are accessed via stairs. We were unaware of there being a lift so if you have mobility problems you will need to ask for assistance or consider an alternative.

Review 87:The hotel has an accessible car park at the rear of the building, welcoming and friendly staff plus excellent accommodation and delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a deluxe room with seaview and would stay again.

Review 88:The location was not ideal for dogs as no grass and in summer no dogs were allowed on the beach. No lift and our room was second floor with many stairs not ideal for 70+ visitors.

Review 89:The staff were excellent and the bed very comfortable. We also enjoyed the food.

Review 90:Standard room we were in was adequate but could have done with being updated.Bed was uncomfortable, only basic freeview channels on small size screen, no handhold for the shower over the bath, no telephone in room and window opened near droning extractor from kitchen.

Review 91:The staff were very kind - nothing was too much trouble.Breakfast was excellent and food in the restaurant good.Went out of their way to be welcoming - well done!

Review 92:Nothing really, but just to put a few more milks in the room would be good. It had fascillities for making fresh tea and coffee. The other thing was when booking on booking.com it said with our room we got a free paper ..but it wasn't I had to pay for them ..

Review 93:The hotel was lovely and all the staff were very polite, friendly and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble..

Review 94:We had our family come to the hotel foe a granddaughters birthday, and the table was decorated, the dessert came with a candle and the staff sang happy birthday. She was thrilled and we all felt very looked after . The food was good too!!!!!

Review 95:The room was very nice if a little smaller than anticipated. Good toiletries and snacks, drinks etc. breakfast was absolutely excellent, homemade jam, yoghurt and marmalade, lovely cooked options and great service

Review 96:Great service and very welcoming to our dog! Great spot opposite beach and we had a superior room with sea view which was very comfortable and homely.

Review 97:The bed was on the small side

Review 98:So many things to like about the Red Lion. The following were all excellent : . location . the staff . cleanliness . breakfasts. Would we stay at the Red Lion again - most definitely.

Review 99:The only improvement I would suggest is to have a restaurant menu during the evening. The food is very good but the menu has the appearance of a fast food pub menu (which the food definitely isn't)and with such a lovely dining area why not make use of it!

Review 100:We were very pleased to be allocated a lovely room consisting of a sitting room with sea view and a separate bedroom. There were many special touches such as a variety of snacks & drinks in an honesty basket as well as instant tea, coffee etc together with ground coffee & leaf tea. There was jam, marmalade, muesli & granola at breakfast which were all homemade together with a wide selection of breakfast items all freshly cooked to order.

Review 101:Nothing not liked ... Cromer is a bit quiet in the winter, but the Red Lion is a great retreat from the weather

Review 102:Staff exceptional , couldn't be nicer, service excellent

Review 103:I think the piping around our room carried hot water, which made it very hot at night - not normally something that would bother me in winter! But the sash windows are large and you can open them, so I did.

Review 104:Lovely big old Inn in the centre of Cromer, Free limited car parking, a bit difficult to get to but good location. Some rooms have sea view, but the ones on the side tend to be dark at they are close to the building opposite. Some scaffolding up at the moment. Love the honesty basket with drinks, crisps etc. T/C. New bathroom, good thick towels, bathrobes. Restaurant food was good, with attentive, professional staff. Public areas are lovely, real fire, bar sells real ales. Open to public. Breakfast a bit different, good to see eggs Benedict and pancakes (no full English but variations on it). Hurrah for the Red Lion, the only place on our trip that had good marmalade in a big jar, but those vile little packets are taking over the world, by stealth. Please fellow reviewers, help us to eradicate this hideous attack on our traditions. And hoteliers, just buy a jar from Aldi and put it in a dish, it's not difficult.

Review 105:We cannot think of anything that we did not like about our stay.

Review 106:Professional, polite and informative staff made the stay very pleasant. Whilst the hotel is long established and obviously popular with local people, the interiors have been tastefully upgraded but still with plenty of character. We were lucky to be given one of the few rooms that look out to sea - a complimentary upgrade.

Review 107:The staff was really friendly and the room was very clean. The bed was nice and comfortable and the room was great value for money. The location is fantastic it is still quiet, but yet very close to the sea and the pier.

Review 108:A very drunk woman crying & screaming for about 2 hours in the night in room above us - was horrible and spoiled our stay somewhat.

Review 109:The food and atmosphere is super and the location right on sea front was perfect

Review 110:Everything we needed and more.Very pleasant and relaxing. Helpful and friendly staff. Lovely sea views. Great food and plenty of it!). Would love to come again one day.

Review 111:Beds in doubles could be bigger.Water temperature in shower fluctuated between very hot and tepid.

Review 112:Beautiful view from bar.Food was excellent and service very good.

Review 113:Waited a long time in the restaurant for dinner, but that didn't spoil our overall impression of the place.

Review 114:We loved our room, with sea view and all mod cons. Will ask for the same room again! Brilliant value for money.

Review 115:There really wasn't anything we didn't like.

Review 116:Everything, the staff were friendly and helpful polite and keen to doing anything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The log fire was very welcoming on on chilly February day.

Review 117:told all rooms have a sea view, our room didn't have one just a view of some scaffolding.

Review 118:lovely clean hotel, friendly staff. great location lovely walk along the cliff tops and beaches.

Review 119:WiFi never worked and no 3G in area so if you need social media - forget it. Nice double seat by window but if you sat down you could not see the sea view as windows fogged up and sealed by secondary glazing. Showings its age.

Review 120:Good location, busy pub with locals. Nice high ceilings and character.

Review 121:Only able to stay one night due to work commitments!

Review 122:Staff were fantastic, the room was large, clean and very comfortable, the bed was huge!!! Food was delicious and very reasonably priced.

Review 123:Just had a lovely weekend away. Hotel everything we needed. Sea views central location, parking. Staff and facilities excellent. We ate in the hotel bar and the food was excellent even on a very busy night. Good breakfast. Can't fault it in anyway.

Review 124:I am not big but could not sit on the toilet had to use one in bar.Advertised as having a view of sea and pier but no pier to be seen

Review 125:location bath robes very good and friendly staff super breakfasts easy to park

Review 126:The dinner menu is a little limited particularly on the Sunday night when no specials were available. Also the staff did not seem able to light the wood fires that night and were slow in putting on the central heating as back up. The service that night was on the slow side. The food itself was very good and the staff were much better on our 2nd night.

Review 127:A very well appointed room with nothing missing and great attention to detail. The breakfast was excellent, the best we have had for years. The hotel is in in a great position and in the main well managed.

Review 128:It is so lovely to stay right beside the sea in Cromer and to be able to have a walk down to the end of the pier before bed and blow away the cobwebs before breakfast.

Review 129:Full English breakfast was too greasy

Review 130:Great location especially if you have a room with sea view. Central to town and coastal walks. Efficient staff - most notably Liam. Very good evening dinners. We will return.
