Reviews for The Lamb Inn
Review 1:Restaurant Dinner quite expensive. The room we had on the ground floor was most disappointing for the price we paid. Although apparently recently redecorated, it was somewhat gloomy and depressing. The bathroom was ridiculously small. Additionally, we had to keep the curtains closed both day and night as the inside of the room was open to view from pedestrians passing along the pavement. We have stayed at The Lamb on a number of occasions previously but would not entertain staying in this particular room again.
Review 2:Cosy atmosphere. The bottled water and the daily portion of 'flapjack' in the room was a nice gesture. Excellent breakfast display and service.
Review 3:Not a bad experience, but we could never get near the open fires lit in the lounges, often because non-residents were occupying the best sofas! We felt we ought to have had priority as residents!
Review 4:We loved our room - very spacious, with a fourposter bed and beautifully but unostentatiously decorated, the shower-room well-separated from the bedroom.
Review 5:Loved the atmosphere and location. You had a choice of excellent formal dinner or a bar menu by the fire. There are a few cosy rooms to have pre dinner drinks and settle down for the night.
Review 6:The Lamb is a lovely oldy worldly warm and comfortable place to stay. The Manager and his staff couldn't do enough for us and the food was excellent.
Review 7:If I had one small criticism it would be that I found the bar menu a little restrictive.
Review 8:The staff were very friendly & attentatve to our needs without being overbearing. The meal we had in the resturant was first class.
Review 9:We were at The Lamb as the beginning of our son's wedding celebrations. Had a wonderful family meal in the evening, food and ambience was second to none and nothing was too much trouble for the very attentive staff.
Review 10:Being upgraded to the Rosie Room, which was delightful. As we were at a wedding we could not make as much of it as we would have liked. You had a good choice of breakfasts and plenty of it and very relaxing.
Review 11:Our rooms were absolutely heavenly! Very comfortable and beautifully decorated and we had a generous amount of space. I particularly appreciated the updated bathrooms with the heated towel racks. The private garden with English roses was exquisite. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I highly recommend the Lamb Inn.
Review 12:The shower wasn't the best and I do like a good shower. It was a bit weak and either very hot or not hot enough.
Review 13:Staff were very friendly and helpful and the place was lovely and traditional, clean and well kept. I would stay there again.
Review 14:The only thing we can complain about is the faucets in the bathroom. One hot and one cold faucet.
Review 15:The staff were excellent and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of.
Review 16:The very very good staff ,you wanted for nothing . The brekfast was the best i have been served . The bed was extremly comfortable we had a great nights sleep
Review 17:Only thing I would say is we stayed in the Shepard Room which is stunning without exception however it was soooo hot due to the chimney running up through our room and the fire being on alight below. Would not have been a problem if the fans were in the wardrobe as stated but sadly they were not and at midnight we didnt have much option but to open windows.
Review 18:Beautiful location and property. Staff could not do enough for you but with out being intrusive. Everything from location to the hotel, food and staff just ooozed quality and was soooo very relaxing. Will certainly be coming back. Magical stay, thank you x
Review 19:WiFi went in and out. Stairs to room could use more light. And door handle on fire door could be changed to be more user friendly
Review 20:David and Olivia were great. Also the male server from Eastern Europe. Sorry not to have his name
Review 21:Nothing bad to report, except our bed was as hard as a rock..... or am I getting old. Also outside our room (Barn) was very noisy in the morning due to the deliveries each day.
Review 22:Charming Inn oozing character with comfortable furnishings and great decor. Fantastic food with pleasant friendly staff. Beautiful garden well kept and lovely!
Review 23:Room was large and very comfortable. The hotel is in a small side street of Burford which means it is very quiet. Beautiful beer garden out the back for relaxing in. Good value bar food at night.
Review 24:One of our group members used a roll-away bed that was vey uncomfortable, the main bed was superb!
Review 25:We loved staying at the Lamb Inn! The building was so quaint and comfortable. The breakfast served to guest includes tea/coffee, toast, continental options, and hot freshly-cooked menu (think eggs-Benedict, bacon, sausage, etc). It was excellent. Finally, Burford is conveniently situated near Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge and lots of other fun places!
Review 26:The pub had an uninspiring menu.
Review 27:An historic inn in a quaint English town. The room had ample size and was exceptionally clean. A court yard was nicely flowered and available for tea, etc.
Review 28:We had a lot of noise the first part of the night. It was hot so we had to open windows. Sounded like a hen do and not sure if it was in our hotel or the one next door, just very disturbing since we had a baby.
Review 29:Friendly staff, cute room, great food, amazing breakfast especially.
Review 30:The rooms were small- lacking in chairs, and bathroom a bit "snug". Could have done with some long lasting milk- as we forgot to ask for it for the next day, so went without a drink in the room.
Review 31:The atmosphere, traditional decor and friendly efficient staff.
Review 32:none
Review 33:The Lamb Hotel at Burford is a lovely place with delightful rooms ,excellent food and very professional and friendly staff It is also a good base for the rest of the cotswolds
Review 34:The only down side to The Lamb was the persistence of the staff to sell drinks, as soon as you entered they seemed to be there waiting to take your money on meals and drinks from the bar. Very good service but at times a little invasive.
Review 35:The Lamb has lots of character with its low, beamed ceilings and stone flagged floors but has cosy red lamps, log fires (even in summer when it's chilly!), and comfy sofas and chairs. The bedroom was well furnished, bright and cheerful.
Review 36:Staff very attentive but not to over the top. Fantastic rear garden. The evening meal well worth the cost of £42.00 for a 3 course meal. Superb location to the main high street
Review 37:No dislikes really but if being picky - We had quite a small room and there wasn't much room at all in the bathroom to put anything. Also my husband didn't sleep well as was too hot under giant feather duvet.
Review 38:Hotel was cosy and full of charm. love courtyard and garden. Food was high quality and staff well trained. Hotel is set on side street off from main high street in Burford.
Review 39:The cleanliness was very poor with cobwebs on the inside windows. The bath room was very small and the shower ceiling and walls were covered in mould. The extraction system barely worked making it a potential health hazard. When I told the female Asst Manager she said she would refer it to the House Keeper! No sense of actually doing something about it.
Review 40:Staff in bar and dining room pleasant
Review 41:Not a bad experience but failed to mention when booking that one of us had limited mobility and the steep narrow stairs up to our room caused some problems. We shall know for next time!!
Review 42:Homely yet professional. Lovely log fires, comfortable lounges and excellent food.
Review 43:There was a problem with connecting to the Wi-Fi which we couldn't resolve.
Review 44:Lovely ambience to the pub, nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff we dealt with
Review 45:Friendly, courteous staff, attentive without being intrusive. Great Sunday lunch and good bar food in the evening. Dead light bulbs reported in morning were replaced by the time we returned in the afternoon.
Review 46:The quality of towels was disappointing It would be nice to have a tv lounge for residents to sit and order from the bar
Review 47:The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is great
Review 48:Food was well below expectations on 2 separate occasions. Expensive for what it was.
Review 49:pleasant and relaxing spaces with open fires to relax, read or chat. helpful staff.
Review 50:Staff need more knowledge of local attractions which they would have if they had lived locally for most of their lives. quarter mushroom for breakfast - why not whole one or two?
Review 51:food, especially breakfast. log fires, location, car parking at next pub. local attractions.
Review 52:Just found the bed to hard
Review 53:The inn was a lovely relaxing place to stay. The staff werw very pleasant and helpfull. The. Breakfas was exceptional and plenty of a variety to eat.
Review 54:General service and attention to detail lacking previous years. The attention to detail that made this place so special is now lacking apparently due to lack of staff?
Review 55:Location and rooms
Review 56:We ate in the bar with my daughter and the family on Saturday night. The food was good but the service was poor. The children's meals came as requested with the nibbles ...as did 1 adult meal. The 3 other adult meals came 20 mins later by which time the children were onto desserts. It was a shame about the wait as all adults would liked to have eaten together.
Review 57:Everybody very friendly
Review 58:We had a long journey from the U.S. and were very disappointed in the very basic welcome. Staff spoke limited English. We're not advised wi-fi was down and not repaired during our stay. Shower was very weak and kept going cold.
Review 59:Breakfast was pleasant. Bed comfortable.
Review 60:Nothing
Review 61:An in with warmth and character. Relaxing, homely environment, with comfortable chairs next to cosy fires. Good food. Efficient, enthusiastic staff who made you feel really welcome, and were keen to ensure that everything was on hand to make your visit perfect.
Review 62:We had two very bad meals in the bar area in both nights we stayed. We had expected the quality of food to be much better than it was. We also found our room to be very small and a very tiny bathroom you had to squeeze round the door to get into. There was also no proper shower. We were also put in a room on the ground floor by the side road and next to the bar area so it was noisy and felt like we didn't have much privacy. For the price we paid we were expecting a bit more from the room and felt quite disappointed by this.
Review 63:The service was amazing, the staff were lovely and attentive. The communal areas of the hotel were warm and cosy with log fires and there were games to play. The breakfast was very good too.
Review 64:Our friends also had a superior room but it was much smaller and decidedly less superior than we expected.
Review 65:This is very much a traditional hotel in a very old building and it is very appropriate for the historic town of Burford. The location is excellent if you want to explore the town. The superior room was spacious and well furnished and the bed was large and comfortable. We found the staff to be friendly and attentive and the breakfasts were great.
Review 66:I have only one suggestion to make: it would make the welcome even warmer if the heating was on in the bedrooms on arrival. Once turned on the rooms warmed very quickly but the initial impact was chilly.
Review 67:We liked everything about The Lamb: the log fires, attentive friendly staff, cosy rooms and delicious food - all set in the heart of the Cotswolds
Review 68:Our Bedroom was delightful the bathroom was good, the bed excellent, really comfortable and the teddy was a sweet touch. The seating areas are just lovely with open fires regularly stoked,a great area to relax after a busy day.
Review 69:The only issue I had with the booking was that I'd booked the stay to include an evening meal for my parents. This request was visible on the booking confirmation but on check in at the Hotel, they had no booking in place for dinner.
Review 70:Everything about the place was spectacular
Review 71:Staff service was excellent and friendly - couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent location for the Cotswolds. Beautiful old building with real charm. Food served in both the bar and restaurant is very good.
Review 72:Chimnies need to burn dry wood to stop smoke in second lounge Reception area for check in too small as forms part of bar
Review 73:Decor Ambiance Location Food
Review 74:Evening meal in restaurant a little expensive, plus 10% service charge.
Review 75:Excellent breakfast choice and decor etc., of the restaurant, together with the log fire, made a good start to the day. Comfort of the lounges with the log fires was something special when returning on a cold day. The room (Windrush) was comfortable and we liked the quality toiletries available. The letter under the door each morning with suggested programme for the day was helpful.
Review 76:The rooms were dated in decor - need brightening and modernising Not value for money- I expected more from my £220/night Shower wasn't powerful
Review 77:Location was great Breakfast was lovely Downstairs amentities cosy especially for time of year we visited (lead up to Xmas) Staff were pleasant enough
Review 78:*Expensive evening meal. Better value eating in the lounge...and better menu...more choice. We cancelled the second evening's meal in the restaurant. Menu here a littel too fancy!! *Expensive stay as single occupancy *Slow service at breakfast
Review 79:*Ambience *Bedroom decor and facilities *Polite and helpful staff *Letters each morning *Log fires
Review 80:staff were too pushy especially the manager, tried hard to get us to eat in during the evening and in the end we chose not to because he was far too pushy
Review 81:Very cosy Inn in great location in Burford. Food was exceptional for breakfast and dinner. Really lovely place to stay especially in winter with the fires always lighting.
Review 82:That I only stayed for 1 night, should have been longer.
Review 83:The building is a lovely old coaching inn with loads of character. The service was excellent and the food in the restaurant was very enjoyable. Lovely bar with roaring fire and good beers and drinks.
Review 84:Slighly tired in places...but not off putting...
Review 85:Friendliness . comfort..great food..knowledgeable staff...made to feel very welcome...extra little touches greatly appreciated..hope to be back again..
Review 86:We went to The Lamb Inn as a first wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. I was disappointed to pay what I did only to find stained carpets, peeling plaster and cobwebs on the walls in our room and cobwebs on the drapes on the four poster bed. The breakfast area also had cobwebs on the wall. I mentioned discreetly to the Manager about the state of our room and was told that he would get housekeeping straight onto it and that ordinarily the room cost £215 per night. I paid £160 - ok a discount but hardly an excuse! I was offered a glass of wine. I wasn't interested in compensation, just didn't want to stay in a dirty room. Distinctly underwhelmed and won't be visiting again.
Review 87:The location was excellent.
Review 88:Impossibly small shower room made from a cupboard. Overpriced for inadequate room. Poor wifi connection. Watery porridge Eggs benedict... sauce tasted from a jar...
Review 89:The garden The public rooms
Review 90:the wi-fi a bit of a pain as every time you have re register even though you are asked if you are a returning customer it keeps coming up with e mail address already used gave up in the end didn't bother to use it anymore.
Review 91:Attention to detail and facilities provided in rooms. Food good and breakfast very good staff polite and helpful. Have been to the Lamb twice and The Bear once part of the same group. Would always stay there if in Burford.
Review 92:Food wasn't great (pie wasn't seasoned at all - had to get some ketchup.... And chips were fries ;() room was a bit dirty for £220 per night! Stains and hairs ;(...... Think more of a £150 would be a more fairer price.
Review 93:Character, amazing position, bar, staff, gardens
Review 94:Price still a little high for the sq mtr of room, bathroom had no shelving to put items on. Drawers/table to use for putting on makeup in bedroom..... No room for anything due to tea and coffee making items!
Review 95:Levels of comfort, surroundings, facilities (bar/restaurant) parking, wine list/patio next to our room, private entrance
Review 96:Food slightly over priced and not of the quality we expected. Room was quite small and no bath - shower room was also very small so nowhere to put anything.
Review 97:A lovely old building in the heart of Burford - enjoyed tea in the courtyard and garden. Staff always helpful.
Review 98:service in the garden. Too slow and inacurate. When sleeping in a room facing the street very noizy from early in the morning.
Review 99:Nice environment, cosy hotel, reception friendly when arriving
Review 100:No hand rail for the shower/ bath. Dangerous Stairs to access room. Not good for the elderly which we are.! Fire door very hard to open if you are on the wrong side of the door.
Review 101:Delightful garden, nice atmosphere about the place and very comfortable bedroom.

Review 114:Cold water only in bedroom
