Reviews for The Inn at Brough

Review 1:Absolutely fabulous hotel! we will definitely be staying again. The rooms are immaculate, furnished to a very high standard and it is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in, would highly recommend.

Review 2:This hotel had the WOW factor. It has been lovely restored to a very high standard. All done with an eye to detail. The staff are all smart and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is very taste with a good choice of menu. Plus they do an early bird breakfast. Enjoyed my stay.

Review 3:Really enjoyed our stay. Lovely little hotel with a warm welcome on our arrival. Room was comfortable and a few added extras (like REAL milk in the fridge) were an nice touch. Meal was really good as well. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Review 4:Car park was full when I arrived but that was mostly due to construction going on. That is going to make the place even better. Looking forward to staying there again.

Review 5:Nice room, helpful staff. Really great food and good value for money. Achieves a very high standard.

Review 6:nothing at all

Review 7:Food was excellent at all times. The breakfast surpassed itself. Nothing was to much trouble. The best poached eggs I have ever eaten. Sally & her staff were superb at all times

Review 8:I have to say that I got a booking.com deal that made this hotelaffordable for me. That said the staff were superb, especially upgradingme when they saw the size of my rucksack. The food was fantastic andreasonably priced, and the rooms/beds were sooo comfortable

Review 9:Nothing.

Review 10:The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, the room comfortable and clean and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on.

Review 11:A minor niggle - in common with many hotels we have stayed in, when we book a room for three, we often find that although three beds are made up, the extra touches are provided for two only. On this occasion, two cups, two delicious homemade shortbread biscuits. Better communication required between the front desk and house-keeping?

Review 12:Comfortable, well appointed bedrooms. Pleasant, helpful staff. A very good evening meal and breakfast. Perfect stopping off point to see Bowes Castle on our way up to Edinburgh.

Review 13:Superbly renovated hotel with high quality furnishings in the spacious rooms. Staff were very friendly and efficient and the restaurant food was simply delicious. We would highly recommend this hotel. Well done to Sally and her excellent staff.

Review 14:There were a few aspects that marred an otherwise good experience. The duvet was winter thickness and far too hot. The restaurant had a good menu and pretensions to greatness. However the lamb shank is best avoided and the smoked cheese and chutney sadwiches were uninspiring in the extreme. The kitchen needs to raise its game to make this a really top class hotel.

Review 15:Recently renovated in immaculate taste. Excellent decor throughout. The staff were most obliging and the cost was very reasonable for the facilities available.

Review 16:The restaurant looked really promising. The service was really friendly and efficient but the food just fell a little short of my (high) expectations.

Review 17:The rooms were to an amazingly high standard both fixtures and fittings and those little extras like toiletries.

Review 18:Extremely well decorated rooms, really nice touch to have a minibar, books and a couple of biscuits. Great to have gowns and slippers too as well as fresh milk! Restaurant is superb too

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:Extra comfortable beds and luxurious rooms, our every need catered for. Welcoming and very helpful staff, superb freshly cooked and delicious food. Beautiful building.

Review 21:A very comfortable bed and delicious cooked breakfast. The hotel is immaculately and no detail has overlooked in the rooms but comfort rather than trendiness is the priority. Details such as home-baked shortbread and fresh milk in the fridge made me feel very welcome after a long drive.

Review 22:The attention to detail of the staff just didn't go with the quality of the establishment - our room wasn't made up after our first night's stay, we often had to wait to be served but it wasn't busy, and there was a whole list of unavailable food & drink - no beer in the pub (sold out apparently!), no salmon, no lamb, no scallops, the list just went on, and it isn't the largest menu! All in all, nothing serious, but the overall standard of service just didn't match the quality of the room & food. For this part of the stay - 7 out of 10

Review 23:The property renovation has been to a very high specification, our room was very nicely presented. Also, the food from the restaurant (both evening meal & breakfast) was excellent. For this part of the stay - 10 out of 10

Review 24:There was a guy outside the hotel opposite who talked The Inn at Brough down - don't listen to these people they obviously don't like having such good competition!

Review 25:Nothing was missed, real coffee and Yorkshire tea, everything you might need in the bathroom including bath salts! It was beautifully clean with lovely decor and a comfy bed plus the wifi was easily accessible. All staff so lovely, not too formal or too over familiar.

Review 26:Not to keen on the overhead fan

Review 27:Friendliness cleanliness good food and very professional staff helped me and my wife have a very enjoyable stay. Would recommend this hotel to anybody

Review 28:They allowed use of washing machine and drying room which was great as we were very wet from cycling in rain. They let us use the phone when we couldn't get a signal. It was really plush and comfortable.

Review 29:even tho' I only had 3 cooked items not 6 having 2 sausages seemed to be a problem at breakfast on the second morning. Winter duvet in the summer was a minor problem.

Review 30:all of it

Review 31:Excellent room with everything you could possibly expect. Great food in the dining room (need to book, and it's worth remembering that there is nowhere else in the area) and really helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Review 32:Over from Australia on a business trip so after 4 weeks on the road feeling tired and skeptical about accommodation after a few bad experiences. What a great way to finish my trip - the type of accommodation you think is way above your budget. Everything I needed was there. Staff amazing and obviously well trained in customer care. Cross I had eaten lunch as I would love to have eaten in the restaurant. Breakfast set me up for my final long drive to Oxford. Beautiful surroundings as well which I briefly explored. Looking forward to my next trip in the UK because I will be back!!

Review 33:Wonderful attention to detail rooms very comfortable bathrooms lovely - can't really fault anything. A bit of a wait for dessert but very tasty when it came think this was due to staff shortage in kitchen.. Staff very attentive and always pleasant. Would highly recommend a stay.

Review 34:A crayfish caesar salad was served in a tall glass which made it difficult to manage. A lower and wider bowl would have been easier - but it was delicious!

Review 35:An old coaching inn has been given a complete makeover by a new and very experienced owner who really knows her stuff, and we couldnot fault her. From the immaculate bedroom and bathroom, to the dining room, all was just excellent for us two weary travellers from Scotland returning to a home in Kent.

Review 36:no bad experiences, only problem we had was exit from car park due to onsite works.

Review 37:we enjoyed the hotel, staff and menu. all great and well worth a visit.

Review 38:What a find ! A wonderfully luxurious hotel with fabulous food and faultless service. Sally and her staff were so welcoming and friendly it actually felt like we were staying with family !

Review 39:Do not be put off by the exterior of this building or the car park during the refurbishment.

Review 40:The staff were very helpful. The recently refurbished rooms were lovely with a number of extra's such as fresh milk in the fridge, complimentary Kendal mint cake and more. The food was great.

Review 41:The hotel is newly refurbished to an excellent standard. Bathroom was beautifully done. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. The dinner and the breakfast was exceptional, and very reasonably priced. The staff (all of them ) were very very good, all friendly and seemed happy. Brough is a bit out of the way - but is a very quiet and relaxed place. Highly recommended.

Review 42:I could only stay one night. I'll be back.

Review 43:Very friendly owner & staff. The whole place was immaculately clean. Room was excellent, very comfy bed, great power shower and an excellent tea & coffee facility with a proper big mug.

Review 44:I was warned in advance that breakfast would not be available due to the kitchen being replaced during Appleby Horse Fair week. Just an observation for others rather than a complaint.

Review 45:Beautiful, tasteful decor.

Review 46:We booked this place for the late May bank holiday. We travelled with our two children and booked a family room I must say that this place ticks all the boxes...we were receivers very warmly by the owner, Sally, who led us to our rooms..all the rooms have just been renovated and the one we stayed in was in immaculate condition. Very clean very modern and comfortable All the refreshments in the mini bar were complimentary and we were offered anything else we liked, like extra bottles of water or milk for kids, free of charge The breakfast was served in the most stylish manner with a full table layer out in a formal manner. The lady who took our order was brilliant and very friendly..the breakfast was well cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed it All in all I would rate this place A+ and would be staying there again next time too This is also a great place to stay of you are visiting Lake District as it was just 30 mins away

Review 47:What a wonderfull hotel The owner, Sally, was wonderfull and all the staff were great and obviously enjoyed working there. Nothing was too much trouble The room was beautifully decorated, had all you'd need, and the evening dinner and morning breakfast were first class Would definitely return!

Review 48:Our bill had other peoples drinks etc added to it to a total of £30. There were only six people dining a party of four and the two of us so how did this happen?

Review 49:The staff were very welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 50:Beautiful food, perfectly done (I had the hake, my partner had the chicken - so we definitely recommend both of those) Recently refurbished hotel, very well done to a high spec. The shower room was lovely with its multi-setting shower head. The LED mirror switched on with a hand movement rather than a switch. The little extras like cotton buds, moisturising cream etc. There was a fridge with complimentary water and Kendal mint cake (that lasted little more than 5 minutes!!)
