Reviews for Cliftonville Hotel

Review 1:Staff bringing orders in to the dining room, then at a loss which table to take them to. An apparent loss of continuity between taking orders and then serving them.

Review 2:Comfortable room, brilliant sea view.

Review 3:If I had to be picky the beds were just a little to soft for me but it didn't spoil anything

Review 4:Very welcoming staff couldn't do enough for you lovely and clean and a room with a sea view is just the best then a drink sitting by the real open fire lovely place to stay

Review 5:Staffs are very friendly and professional, I had a great breakfast there, I haven never thought that free breakfast could be this kind of perfect, also do try their crabs as dinner if you are lucky to live there, caz their chef cooked crabs very well when I placed my order!!!

Review 6:In my one night of staying, had no problems.

Review 7:Very clean, staff service level was very good. Location and having a sea view was really good. So overall, lovely hotel and good location for central Cromer. Had bar snack of Fish & Chips which was good and a lovely full breakfast.

Review 8:The wi fi is very weak and can only be received in thereception area. It was also thought the cost represented less than adequate value for money

Review 9:The Edwardian arcitechture is excellent and helps create the atmosphere of seaside holidays long gone. The staff are also very attentive and polite. Rooms are comfortable with excellent sea views.

Review 10:The water in my room was hot one minute and cold the next - clearly someone flushed the toilet! The cooked breakfast was cooked to order - not good if you need to be out the door and finally my biggest issue and something I was unaware of - a dog barking!!! in the room next door, they allow dogs!!! If you don't love dogs do go as they allow owners to brings them along - shame since the first night there was only one dog and here I am now telling people not to go if they want a decent nights sleep. Message to the owners - either stop allowing dogs or make sure you put them at the back all together, away from the rest of your guests

Review 11:Staff were friendly and the hotel was clean in a good position

Review 12:First time stay in this hotel. Visit Cromer on a regular basis & usually stay in b & b's. Fancied a change & enjoyed our stay at Cliftonville. The rooms are comfortable & clean. A little tired but then we all are. Breakfast was very nice, hot & freshly cooked. Bolton's restaurant was very busy so sat in the bar & ate, again food freshly cooked & hot.

Review 13:I come from just outside London and I don't pay anything near what this hotel charges, very extortionate prices for what you get,no water in room and for those prices you should at least get a free paper, hotel charges 80 pounds per person per room, a couple 160 pounds a night for somewhere just up from basic should be nearer 50 pounds per person

Review 14:Lovely hotel close to all amenities and the Boltons Bistro was excellent

Review 15:The Bistro restaurant was well fitted, ambience was excellent but maybe the Chef had a bad day at the office, i don't know but the standard of the food served up for the prices charged was disgusting, should I have complained there and then ??, well probably however it was my partners birthday surprise and i didnt want to spoil the occasion. I think the owners need to re-assess what is being produced in their name

Review 16:The hotel, location and staff were first class, the Bistro restaurant however was a different matter

Review 17:Being on the 3rd floor. Also the lift could do with updating, was a bit wobbly. I didn't feel safe using it on my own.

Review 18:I liked the room because it had a view of the sea.and the soaps in the bathroom were lovely.

Review 19:I was disappointed that Wifi was only available in the bar area and I would have liked to be able to access on line in my own room. The shower in the bathroom was very small

Review 20:Lovely to wake up in the morning and look out of the window with brilliant sea view. Comfortable bed, nice breakfasts with plenty of choice as I don't eat meat.

Review 21:small room, smelly damp bathroom and very shabby, no toiletries in bathroom, no biscuits on tea tray which was very sparse, had to pay extra for different breakfast other than full english

Review 22:bedroom had a view of the sea

Review 23:Have had much better rooms for well under £160 per night. Shower badly needed redecorating.

Review 24:Breakfast and staff were very good. Good choice of places to eat within the hotel.

Review 25:Going home.

Review 26:We liked the staff surroundings room food. Views The only thing that could have been better was that we thought we would have got shown to our room.we would stay again. And more beverages in the room.

Review 27:The worst value for money room we have every stayed in. Very small for 2 people, uncomfortable as constantly re-arranging things to make way.

Review 28:Seaviews and the breakfast was lovely

Review 29:Lack of easily accessible power points (located behind tables, beds etc) No lock on toilet door. No shaver socket in bathroom. Noisy saniflo toilet. Blocked drain on shower.

Review 30:Location was excellent on seafront

Review 31:Beds consisted of two singles pushed together no room in the bathroom for toiletries we felt we should not be paying the same rate as bigger rooms in the first floor

Review 32:Our room was on the second floor it was small and cramped

Review 33:Shabby hotel, unprofessional restaurant manager, food in bistro restaurant poor, the chairs in the lobby were very dirty, lack of lounge areas. Single rooms were very cramped with blocks of wood used to keep windows open.

Review 34:location

Review 35:No wi-fi in rooms, but available in reception/bar area.

Review 36:Breakfast was absolutely amazing. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The sea view was a bonus!

Review 37:No smoked haddock available one morning. Smokers sitting on front steps

Review 38:The rom had a fantastic view. The staff were very friendly. They sorted a plumbing problem very efficiently and showed exceptional concern.

Review 39:One of the cups on our teatray was dirty. Also I thought it was unprofessional that cleaning staff were sitting on the floor outside our room waiting to clean when we returned from breakfast, considering there was still quite a while till checkout time.

Review 40:The bistro attached to the hotel was excellent as was the hotel breakfast.

Review 41:The scrambled eggs at breakfast were a bit odd - were they baked in the oven? Watery and bland! Could have WiFi in the rooms.

Review 42:The room was quite modern and clean and had lots of room. Breakfast was brilliant as there were lots of choices.

Review 43:Stained carpet Daily cleaning & bed making crumbs & mud left from the last guests to use room. Cleaning materials left.on landingf all the morning which we had step over.

Review 44:Staff in dining area very pleasant.

Review 45:The Executive Room is really nothing of the sort - what can you execute there when there is no Wifi? No desk. And just a lot of room. Attic style window. Cheap tacky pine furnishings. No bath robe. Generally refurbishment has been tastelessly and cheaply done. Uncomfortable chairs.

Review 46:The location and some very welcoming staff. Although the service was a bit hit and miss there was a lot of effort to make you comfortable.eg to escape a drafty table by the service door we were offered a table in the much nicer restaurant which is normally reserved for full board guests.

Review 47:Curtains were not lined, so couldn't sleep when sun started to come up. Mattress was well past it's best and needed replacing. Windows were dirty on outside obscuring sea view. Shower drain was blocked. Could not log onto Wifi.

Review 48:Breakfast. Nice and hot. Shame about the plates being so large we could scarcely fit everything on the tiny tables.

Review 49:Some road noise in sea view rooms. WiFi poor connection. Reception bit late opening for early get away

Review 50:Breakfast was superb Friendly staff Side door key for late return

Review 51:Wifi is only available in the communal downstairs areas. Cosily-sized bedrooms due to the Edwardian nature of the property.

Review 52:Great staff. Lovely bedrooms. Fabulous breakfast. They were really accommodating of our dogs (and gave us a breakfast table in the bar area as dogs aren't allowed in the breakfast room)

Review 53:TV in room very small, but then did not watch it much. Limited variety of refreshment in room, i.e. no biscuits, just tea and coffee no decaff options or chocolate.

Review 54:The staff were friendly and the hotel had a peaceful atmosphere with some lovely features, especially in the dining room. The food was good and flavoursome.

Review 55:Bathroom needed updating & had a very musty smell.

Review 56:Unique & quirky! Great service & lovely food. Beautiful building with original Edwardian features. Room was tastefully decorated.

Review 57:Can't see what you would have to pay full charge for eggs benedict in lieu of full English? Surely a choice between the two wouldn't have detrimental affect on the profits! Would have preferred crispier bacon!

Review 58:Food was excellent

Review 59:The breakfast wasn't great; the room was a bit dusty and bathroom not overly clean. Given the very high price, that was disappointing.

Review 60:Great location and views from the hotel; friendly staff

Review 61:The room and the bathroom were tiny. The sink had chips in, there was no complementary water. It wasn't worth £150 for the night!

Review 62:The bed was comfy

Review 63:toilet didn't flush properly and bathroom was rather small with small shower cubicle - no good if you are a larger person

Review 64:its location was ideal and great sea view with added bonus of free parking. Food in bistro was excellent with really attentive service. Breakfast next morning very good too.

Review 65:The broken window pane. The peeling paint on the ceiling. The dirty bathroom all around the radiator particularly. The dusty skirting boards. The tired lumpy sofa .

Review 66:The staff were all very friendly and well mannered, not too many refusals to "you guys " as that is a real no no in my books. The food excellent with hot plates..

Review 67:Well situated on the seafront in Cromer. Very friendly & efficient staff. Close to bus services to reach Norwich , Kings Lynn & other seaside towns & villages.

Review 68:Wifi was free but slow

Review 69:Lovely, welcoming, friendly, helpful staff. Hotel right on the sea front, with sea views and is close to the pier, boating lake, No1 Fish and Chip Shop and town.

Review 70:Paid extra for a 'Executive' room which wasn't. Quite small with sloping wall which compromised space; tiny TV with digital signal breaking up; low hot water pressure; nowhere to store case.

Review 71:Good place for touring North Norfolk and experiencing typical English seaside fare.

Review 72:Asked for a double and got 2 single beds pushed together. Very uncomfortable. Dog barking in adjoining room after being left by owners.

Review 73:The staff and service could not be faulted. The food, both evening meal and breakfast, was excellent. The panoramic sea views from the room

Review 74:The room was poor. A ripped seat, watermarks on the ceiling from the shower above and cracked. The window let in gusts of wind when closed. The whole hotel from facade to almost all interior areas needs a complete revamp.

Review 75:The Staff were excellent, polite and accommodating. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent

Review 76:Ambience and friendliness of welcome and professionalism of all staff - for whom nothing is too much trouble. Room good size and well maintained. Food is of very high standard - the lobster at Boultons is highly recommended.

Review 77:Tv had no signal and wifi didn't reach anywhere

Review 78:Stayed one night , ate in restraunt and had breakfast in morning , the room was confortable and food was good , unfortunately the tv only got 2 chanals and the wifi didn't work ,,

Review 79:My room was very small to accommodate two dogs and myself, It was also on the third floor which made it difficult to load and unload the car I was travelling alone with two dogs so.would have been better on first floor,

Review 80:Food was excellent, Staff friendly Pets welcome

Review 81:Front desk lady a little officious and not that helpful. A little like being back in school!

Review 82:Good location. Close to the town Bell hop was very helpful. Need it because there are tons of steps especially difficult with bags.

Review 83:Very heavy duvet, but this was rectified when we mentioned it.

Review 84:Position is excellent overlooking the sea and only a short walk from town. The staff were helpful and it was a delight to stay. It helped because the weather was so good. Excellent shower room. Meals were of high quality.

Review 85:The room cost compared to the room and hotel quality. The breakfast was OK, but I had expected better than average given the price.

Review 86:The location and sea view.

Review 87:The charging structure by ppn. Quite old fashioned in my view and seemed to be a method of maximising income. However it is a real character of a building and obviously requires considerable upkeep. Premier Inn would be cheaper but then you wouldn't get the location, the views, the character nor quality food.

Review 88:First rate location with sea views and close to town centre - car parking on site. The bistro meals were in my view of a very good quality and competitively priced.

Review 89:scruffy funiture room did not resemble brocure at all double bed was 2 singles with a double matteress on top not what we expect for the class of hotel

Review 90:Hotel appears shabby and requires complete update Room in poor state with stained carpets and damaged walls, did not look like a 3 star room Very noisy toilet system Poor shower pressure Lack of toiletries for such an expensive room rate

Review 91:Range of breakfast options Comfortable beds Great sea views

Review 92:Going home!!!

Review 93:I needed a good break, and got one. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was what was needed to start the day. The hotel is nicely positioned, less than 5 mins walk from the center. Will go again.

Review 94:No shampoo, or soap....just shower-gel which appeared to be same as in the hand-gel. No flannels. Noisy (probably broken) fan in bathroom, and also loud noise of pump for water (not a plumber so don't know what it was). Noisy main road if windows open for air.

Review 95:Some beautiful features of the building - stairs and ground floor dining room......stained glass windows, and wood carvings. Pleasant chambermaids. Nice view of sea from upper floor.

Review 96:The sausage skins were so tough I had to leave it - the first time in 67 years! I guess it would be less as I couldn't eat sausages when I was born!

Review 97:On the sea front

Review 98:Poor view from window for an executive room. Very unpleasant smell in the foyer area. Several members of staff very uncommunicative. Several areas in need of decoration. Poor value for money

Review 99:Comfortable bed, very nice En Suite. Plenty of cupboard/drawer space. Pleasant girl that cleaned our room.P

Review 100:The room was smaller than a Travel lodge!Shower room only just large enough to turn round in and noisey macerator .Evening meal in restuarant £28 plus.Breakfast ok but staff not attentive, arrived to find no fruit juice glasses or cereal bowls, had to ask two of them standing doing nothing to get some.Asked for toast to come last and waiter forgot,we had finished everything else over 10 mins before and ended up being last out of the room although not last in!!!For £160 a night we expected premium service.

Review 101:Good position overlooking sea.Old style hotel with period features.Plenty of off street parking.Restuarant, bistro and bar with food.

Review 102:Night 1 restaurant waitress was surly and unsmiling. Bar man was curt and unfriendly. Night 2 restaurant waiter was fantastic! Barman much more friendly! Asked for a heater on night 1 and were given a broken one which was replaced with a fan! Have up and huddled in bed for warmth

Review 103:The room was clean and comfortable with a fantastic sea view. Staff were friendly though less so in the restaurant. Beds were comfortable and there wasn't a speck of dirt or dust anywhere. All food served in restaurant and in dining room was superb.

Review 104:The toiletries provided were a bit hit and miss, quite basic so probably better not to rely on them. Food in the restaurant was quite expensive with all the extras.

Review 105:The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms very comfortable. We had excellent views of the coast and the beach, town, park are a short walk away. Parking at the hotel was easy.

Review 106:The hotel was very dated dirty, animals were all over the furniture, was very cold in the room the sea view was rubbish u had to be a giant to see out the window, I had the most expensive room, it was we'll over priced. The breakfast was good, overall it was very disappointing.

Review 107:Shower - not high enough and only a trickle of water. Wifi - Didn't work across whole hotel.

Review 108:Quality of food (all meals) Room (comfort and cleanliness) Staff

Review 109:I had a suspicion from the photos on their website that the single room that I was allocated might be a bit "compact", but I wasn't prepared for how tight for it actually was! The single wardrobe could have benefitted from a low shelf and some wider drawers beneath it. The shower took some working out before I could operate it satisfactorily, and the half-length shower curtain made me feel claustrophobic! I didn't think my accommodation and a slightly over-cooked breakfast warranted £80 per night for my two-night stay, so I felt that they were cashing-in on the Carnival Week influx of visitors. Three other small points; convenient parking is very limited (especially at the narrow side of the building), access into the reception area is difficult if you have both hands full of luggage as you have to depress the handle in order to enter, and I was surprised that you were not allowed a front door key in case you arrived back after 11.30 p.m. On both nights, I got back after midnight and was lucky that I was allowed entry by residents.

Review 110:The main thing I can say in favour of the Cliftonville Hotel was that I was able to book a room at short notice, given that it was Cromer Carnival Week. The staff were pleasant, helpful and smartly-dressed. The hotel itself was in a good location overlooking the sea.

Review 111:I found the bed rather hard, but that is a personal preference.

Review 112:All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The cooked breakfast was hot and good, as was the coffee. My room wasn't large but it was very clean and I had everything I needed. Thank you!

Review 113:Too expensive and the room was not up to standard let alone executive level. With a torn valance, unironed curtains, faulty shower and broken hose from the taps. Shaby bathroom that needed updating etc etc etc

Review 114:The view from our room

Review 115:Beautiful arts and crafts features in the reception and main restaurant, food in the main restaurant was amazing and the staff so helpful and friendly

Review 116:The AWFUL smells, bathroom in particular, (plus main lobby) and constant noise from the 'macerator' every few seconds Cramped, tiny, dirty shower Bed that just squeaked noisily with every turn Radio Norfolk blaring out over breakfast The PRICE! - £160 for a small, twin room that is so dated and cramped? That's daylight robbery. In reality £80-£100 (max) would be the true value. If that is the 'comparable' rate with other Cromer hotels, we won't be visiting Cromer again. The owners are clearly making a mint, so it's about time they re-invested some of that money. Starting with a few simple things like re-tiling the bathroom - the "Hotel Inspector" would have a field day!

Review 117:Staff pleasant and helpful Parking available outside Dinner (Bistro) and breakfast good

Review 118:The 11 0'clock shutdown of everything even necessitating a special key to get back in late at night. A late bar and permanent single staff presence show serious hotel intent. The Clifftonville should aspire to be more than a b&b. Also - my room phone didn't work (17) and the bathroom extractor likewise in room 25.

Review 119:Staff were excellent and general ambience.

Review 120:Toilet did not flush I had to fill the small rubbish bin with water andflush it myself (twice). The Alarm system sounded-off at 05.45 hrs,05.55hrs and 06.10 hrs - nobody knocked to say it was a false alarm or areal fire. They did apologise at reception.

Review 121:View of sea from room was good. Room was clean & tidy although quitesmall for the price. Breakfast was excellent as was the service.

Review 122:Seemed pricey - £160 for a double, but that seems to be the going rate not only in Cromer but also in small places outside. So all in all better value than most alternatives that I saw.

Review 123:Good location- friendly efficient staff. Fish on breakfast menu- rare these days. Ambience of stained glass and wood but rooms light and airy and great sea views. Fantastic sunsets - if this had been Key West you couldn't have moved for cruise ships.

Review 124:Car park a little small for the size of today's vehicles so we parked opposite the hotel on the street for free.

Review 125:Location excellent. Right on the clifftop. We had a room overlooking the sea. Fantastic view. Great food in Bolton's bistro. Breakfast good also.

Review 126:A bit pricey for quite a dated building e.g. limited wifi and media options, though worth it if you're looking for a location which feels a bit special with amazing view.

Review 127:Helpful friendly staff, nice breakfast, a beautiful old building. Perfect location to explore the area, amazing views from bedroom window.

Review 128:No Wifi on 2nd Floor despite access point outside room

Review 129:Room Breakfast Location

Review 130:dogs in hotel and rickerty lift was never sure it would reach destination

Review 131:frirndly ness of staff and location

Review 132:The minorist of minor things - wifi in the rooms would make this a 9.9 stay

Review 133:Love the ambience, almost theatrical Fantastic breakfast Sea views

Review 134:Great location nice staff and decent food all good

Review 135:this is a great hotel, staff were very good. The breakfast was excellent. We had a lovely sea view from our room.

Review 136:Great location with just a short walk into town and great outlook. The restaurant was ideal, great food...

Review 137:very friendly staff on reception and breakfast great parking great sea views

Review 138:Everything was really good could find no fault.
