Reviews for Lamb Hotel
Review 1:We stayed in the stables really great massive room and massive wet room could not fault it would also like to thank georgia for sorting out a little problem for us and the bottle of wine we recieved from the hotel we also had the steak their on saturday night cooked perfectly will be back again thanks
Review 2:Could not fault the hotel or staff such fabulous value for money . When we arrived we were allocated a room that had not been made up and were moved straight away and given a bottle of wine as compensation. Great pub hotel right next to the beautiful Cathedral would definitely stay again. Lovely breakfast included in the price!
Review 3:The WIFI was difficult to access and stay connected to. Also, my room was overlooking the busy street and was too noisy for me to sleep until the mid-morning hours.
Review 4:Staff was fabulous! Very friendly and patient with scattered travel brains. The location near to the cathedral was perfect for me as I was conducting research there. The hotel is older and is in need of a lot of refurbishing but it did not take away from the comfort of the room. The food in the pub was delicious, both dinner and breakfast the next day.
Review 5:Attitude of staff on our arrival. As a group of us travelled from Ireland and had requested a courtesy room to freshen up prior to attending a funeral I thought it would not be a problem to be accommodated with this most reasonable request. Wrong! We were offered a committee meeting room with public access and no running water or general room facilities and when we requested one of the rooms we had booked well in advance we were told if we wanted a room as early as 1pm we should have stayed the previous night in order to accommodate ourselves, all this despite making a special request when we booked for a courtesy room just one hour before normal check in time. Our funeral was at 2pm. After this all staff were excellent during our stay and couldn't do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Maybe this hotel should only allow a trained receptionist to deal with all incoming/outgoing guests rather than just any staff member who doesn't understand guests needs.
Review 6:Bar staff/ kitchen staff were excellent during our stay.
Review 7:The door of room 34 (might be 36) in the stable block where I have stayed twice, but never again, needs attention as it will not close unless you slam it enough to shake the building. The toilet seat in the same room is too small.
Review 8:Convenient location.
Review 9:Wifi difficult to get on - although helpful staff member eventually fixed it, but off the next morning. Service very slow at breakfast.
Review 10:Good location. Reasonable space in room.
Review 11:Excellent breakfasts, large bedroom, not too glitzy, lovely location. The dinner menu was varied and the dining area cozy. Would definitely recommend.
Review 12:The car park is small and was full when we arrived on the Friday evening. The girl on duty advised us that free parking was available in the council car park and gave directions. We asked if it was ok to leave the car until Sunday and she said yes. When we returned to the car on Sunday there was a parking ticket on our windscreen as only 3 hours allowed on a Saturday. Yes we should have noticed but had been advised incorrectly. Not a good end to a great weekend.
Review 13:The position of the hotel in the centre of Ely was excellent. Ely is an excellent place for a weekend break with plenty to do. We spent over two hours in the huge antiques barn. We had a good meal in the hotel on the evening we arrived. Breakfast was good and varied but for some reason more staff were on duty on the Saturday than the Sunday but we were having a leisurely day so no rush needed. The morning receptionist was very helpful in getting me access to the wifi.
Review 14:Room was extremely hot, even though radiator wasn't on. Couldn't open window and had fan running all night in December, poor nights sleep as a result. Shame as otherwise hotel and facilities excellent.
Review 15:Central position of hotel was excellent.
Review 16:Booked a twin room but beds so small that we were unable to sleep. the shower caused a pool of water on the floor. Much in need of refurbishment. We really liked the location and size of the room, overlooking the front street so were disappointed with our 1st night
Review 17:The location is excellent. Our move to the stable block was a great improvement. The shower especially was most impressive and the bed was a good size and comfortable. Some drawer space would have been an improvement. Unfortunately we were charged extra for the move
Review 18:While not being overtly grubby the corridors in the hotel section- paintwork and carpets - were rather worn and shabby, giving a poor introduction to the accommodation. The room itself however was perfectly clean.
Review 19:The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Excellent beds. Good hot water. The food in the bar/restaurant area was straightforward British at a very good price. Despite being between the bar and the main road, our room was very quiet due to excellent sound insulation.
Review 20:Had a lovely time , the only thing that spoiled our stay was that in the room next to ours someone came in about 3 in the morning and lumped and bumped about and ran a bath , kept us awake for about an hour
Review 21:Rooms, especially bathrooms are tired and in need of maintenance. Watch out for the dodgy iron in room 30.
Review 22:Great location in the centre of Ely. Good breakfast.
Review 23:Breakfast service was slow on the first morning. Surprised there was no ceiling light in the bedroom.
Review 24:Location, staff generally friendly. Very comfortable. Bar area good.
Review 25:The shower head above the bath was only about 5' off the bath, not good when your over 6' tall. Also it was a little grubby in places. It was ok
Review 26:It is a decidely average hotel in the middle of Ely,
Review 27:Breakfast service was slow, we were sat for a long time and had to ask specifically for staff to take an order for food. Cooked breakfast was disappointing after such a great experience with the evening dining.
Review 28:The staff were friendly and attentive with nothing too much trouble. Evening meal was superb with a great selection of food and a nice varied wine list. The four poster bed in our room was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice and spacious.
Review 29:I think they struggled a bit at breakfast time to fulfil the orders quickly as there was a bit of a delay and no porridge both days! Lovely when it turned up though and we weren't in a hurry.
Review 30:Really good location, had two evening meals there which were great, staff nice and friendly.
Review 31:We stayed in the annex (room 35), which is in the car park at the back, and means non-residents leave the bar area (which is at the front) past your rooms. We had three very loud, drunk groups wait outside our door in succession until 11.30pm until their cabs arrived. OK, not particularly late, but was intimidating nether-the-less as some were starting to 'kick-off'. Staff should not allow bar customers to leave via this exit on closing as it's unfair on paying customers. Also, parking was a nightmare! Only approx. half the spaces available for the amount of rooms. We had to move the car twice before we could get into hotel car park, and that was only because a member of staff left and kindly let us know.
Review 32:We stayed in the annex which was a great size and nicely decorated. Food was great in the bar and staff very friendly.
Review 33:Superior double poor decor needs complete uplift.new windows presant ones rotten.tiles in bathroom cleaned bot black stains in grouting where mould removed.better lighting room dim and dingy looking.also on 2nd floor.no disabled access to upstairs.no lounge for guests to sit only bar area.weird hours of opening eg bar(its a hotel).no night staff at reception for any problems.place locked up by 2300 let yourself in and out with key.it would have been fair at half the price but rooms not worth the charge asked.I dont know if superior rooms are available on lower floors or stable block but my wifes obvious walking difficulties made the ascent to our room extremely difficult.hotel requires dragging into this century.be honest i could have stayed in a premier inn for £30 a night less including breakfast and had a room of a better lighter airyercondition and user friendly
Review 34:Food and staff excellant
Review 35:The room we had was very poor. Dirty and untidy. In desperate need of renovation. We complained and were promised a partial refund
Review 36:the ground floor bar and restaurant are excellent. Very clean with good food and very good staff. Off street parking was tight but good enough
Review 37:Noise from systems starting early am. Lack of toilet cleaning brush. No jams/marmalade on offer with breakfast toast. Difficulty of getting follow up coffee at breakfast time.
Review 38:Extremely comfortable bed and pillows
Review 39:I believe the rooms in the main building may not be quite the same standard as the stable block.
Review 40:My sister and I had a great stay here, we meet up a couple of times a year just to have time together. We had one of the new rooms in the stable block and it was lovely! Nice decoration and furniture, good bathroom. The hotel itself is well presented and staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. Best of all it is literally round the corner from the cathedral and right in town centre.
Review 41:Perfect location in city centre. Staff helpful & friendly.we had superior room which was clean, spacious & comfortable with good sized tv. Tea & coffee supplies plentiful(could get more if required) & bonus of gluten free brownies provided. Breakfast menu had good choices.Room service good too.Car park at back of hotel.
Review 42:check where your room is, two flights of stair quite steep and long passage to rooms could be a problem for the not so young!
Review 43:ideal location for overnight stayy
Review 44:Very loud band on Friday night - not an ideal choice of act as impacted on the bar and restaurant areas too much...
Review 45:Staff were all very helpful and enthusiastic. Even helped me find a local PC repair shop when my computer broke down, which was really appreciated. Building has character
Review 46:Inadequate parking for guests. Tables uncleared at breakfast time. Slow service at bar. Too many tables reserved.
Review 47:Location central. Staff friendly. Room spacious and nicely decorated. Although top half of double glazing/sound proofing missing on one window and damp patch on ceiling above bed. (Room 32).
Review 48:We ate in the restaurant in the evening and were very disappointed. The staff weren't attentive or particularly friendly. We weren't even told that some ingredients were unavailable until the (incomplete) meal was on the table. The food was of very varied quality, with two good meals and three very poor ones. Vegetables were cold and uncooked, to the point that one meal was sent back.
Review 49:A good hotel with bar and restaurant. A great location in the centre of the town, right next to the cathedral and Oliver Cromwell's house, only a short walk to the riverside. A very good size room with a comfortable bed. A lovely breakfast, with something for everyone (inc. gluten free bread), and the staff gave a friendly, helpful service.
Review 50:A bit expensive. Also during booking the price was £ 20,- per room less than when I got confirmation, within 10 seconds price was increased.
Review 51:Friendly staff. Good size room. Good breakfast
Review 52:Ely is a small town but the hotel is at a crossroads so if your room faces outwards then there will be some traffic noise.
Review 53:Room good size for a single. Location in the centre of Ely. Good choice at breakfast.
Review 54:Rock band on the Friday night, could not hear ourselves speak while we were having our evening meal, breakfast was very slow on both mornings also food was not hot enough.
Review 55:Location
Review 56:Other car park users making it difficult to get into and out of spaces by parking on yellow hatched areas. Some other customers seemed to want to complain about everything and we felt they were rude to the staff, who we thought were helpful and doing a good job.
Review 57:Brilliant location- close to the train station and city centre. Good quality food and drink and attentive service at breakfast. Rooms clean and comfortable. Car park accessible and easy to find.
Review 58:No hot water, the shower was broken, no towels in the room All this didn't come to light until I went to use the shower the next morning. Bad start to the day!! I went down to the reception and asked for towels and that my room be changed. When I arrived back in the evening, my room was the same, I still had no shower and they had left in towels. Questionable whether I would stay again, is it worth it for the stress involved...
Review 59:Location is great and very convenient
Review 60:For the cost, the rooms could have been better, as the decoration was obviously aging, some rooms were almost a street away, by which I mean ours was up to the 1st floor, and through three buildings.. The mandatory signup for WIFI needed typing skills of a hare, to sign up for the access took time, by then the link would time out... needs attention.
Review 61:location was good and staff were helpful. The Cathedral was a few paces away.
Review 62:no hot water discount for no hot water poor breakfast serving a shambles no shampoo in bathroom no night porter bar - its a hotel? reception was locked up so access to key on return denied to one in our party?
Review 63:booking process
Review 64:On occasions the food was not very well cooked at all eg. Tough meat, porridge that was more like watery rice pudding. Parking, too, was not ideal.
Review 65:A comfortable room
Review 66:that the bathroom sink shelf had lots of dirty ring marks on it that showed the shelf has not been cleaned. this made me wary about the rest. but the linen and the presentation was nice & crisp so I let it go. also the staff were pleasant but did not carry my bag up to my room. i think this is fundamental to good service in welcoming people to a place. the stairs are steep and the fire door heavy between the landing and the stairs.
Review 67:that my room was not tiny, in fact was spacious, and at the back over the kitchen - which is often the case with single rooms.
Review 68:Hot water was off but we were given a discount on the cost of the room. Bedroom was rather tired looking.
Review 69:Free parking very close to the town centre. Value meals in the restaurant and nice breakfast with plenty of choice.
Review 70:No hot water for 2 nights and no alternative facilities offered. Room cold on entering. Single bed - mattress worn and not fit for use ( the springs all gone)and i fell out of bed my first night. No extra duvet / blanket could be found on first night (9th Oct) when requested as room very cold. Kettle switch broken. No room service as available. As a single 78 yr old woman traveller I resist eating in a busy restaurant but no alternative available. I will not be visiting The Lamb again.
Review 71:The restaurant staff polite and helpful. The food very good.
Review 72:Limited car parking at the hotel itself. The bathroom in our room was very small and basic with no hot water to the shower although hot water was available for the sink and bath
Review 73:Breakfast was lovely and very pleasant and helpful staff, very good value accommodation and worth the£60 paid for 1 night. The room was spacious clean and comfortable
Review 74:Unfortunately no hot water for nearly 24 hours! In fairness to staff this could not be helped and quite apologetic but they made adequate concessions with rebate on room charge, free coffee or a meal etc. Single room no 28 could do with a makeover. Pretty basic especially furniture but clean. One waiter doing bar service was too 'pushed'. Needed another pair of hands, given it was a weekend & busy! NOT ENOUGH CAR PARKING either
Review 75:Location & friendly staff.
Review 76:Stayed here to attend a family wedding the hotel was very good the breakfast was excellent cooked to order and not left under hot lights unfortunately they had problems wth the boiler and had to undergo emergency repairs in the middle of the night and because our room was above the work being done they gave us our stay for free which was great customer service wiud recommend this hotel on All aspects
Review 77:much too hot duvet, double room in stable block(R36) small, almost claustrophobic(though O.K. for a two night stay),much too rare sirloin steak(after asking for medium) which I should have returned! Also confusion over breakfast ending- time-the room notice said one thing, the reality was another! (but the staff were very obliging). Parking in small yard very inadequate( as they warn)-it was just lucky on the departure morning that we were near the exit because several cars would have been in our way;as it was, the receptionist had to move a van. The nearest parking is only three hours so you need to plan for this;there is a long stay park also.
Review 78:location wonderful for cathedral and town centre, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, and cleanliness.
Review 79:Climbing so many stairs to the room!,
Review 80:Easy to find and good parking. Hotel a bit tired but staff very attentive. Breakfast good with plenty of choices.
Review 81:The leak from the room upstairs that woke us when water started pouring into our room. Breakfast took 30 mins after ordering to arrive on cold plates!
Review 82:The location and sourounding area excellent
Review 83:The calmari and the fish pie were overcooked and dry The dining table had what looked like crumbs in the slats in the surface- there were tiny flies around the wine glass
Review 84:Management staff very helpful- room was warm - bed was comfortable- bathroom was spacious, plenty of hot water - breakfast was plentiful. Location is very central
Review 85:Travelling from cambridge to cardiff and back again because the computors were done and we couldnt change dates
Review 86:It should be made knownthat there are 2 places called Ely Cardiff and Cambridge especially to overseas visitor booking on line
Review 87:For a stay at the end of September / beginning of October we expected to have some heating available in our room. This was provided the following night in the form of a plug in heater & an extra duvet. The radiator came on late pm but was not working in the morning when we needed it most. Also the room tea making supplies were not restocked.
Review 88:Staff were very good, all of them were cheerful & helpful. The food was good &,as we have small appetites, our request for smaller portions was listened to. The rooms were a little shabby but clean.
Review 89:Squeaky Bed - think it was the metal frame. Dreadful breakfast - luke warm strong coffee; poor qulality bacon - still had white slime on the slices from the pan! Yuk! Very small portions. Madhouse to find a table - waitresses a bit snappy! Dreadful car park - so small and hard to get in and out of.
Review 90:Great room -small but lovely facilities.
Review 91:Parking problematic. First notice stuck to entrance talked about slow service as there were staff shortages 'because of sickness in the kitchen' - not what you want to hear on arrival!! Breakfast was dismal - took 30mins even to get a hot drink. Cooked offerings were like warm and very rubbery bacon and sausages (microwaved??) No lift to room or offer of help with bags.
Review 92:Location Room was nicely furnished and clean
Review 93:On a Monday evening the bar asked for last orders at 10 20 no drinks for residents after this time
Review 94:Excellent friendly and well trained staff which gave us a relaxed and at home feeling
Review 95:Breakfast was a bit slack. Asked for toast which never arrived, asked for coffee which arrived in a single cup only half full rather than a pot, asked for sauces which never arrived. Nice food though.
Review 96:Room was lovely. Evening meal was good Staff in Reception were really helpful
Review 97:Room next to managers apartment and his baby cried a lot in the nightMain dish at dinner was fish on puff pastry and the pastry and potatoeswere raw uncooked. Gave free dessert to compensate!
Review 98:No TV on second night due to poor signal in the hotel but no offer to move rooms and no discount on our bill due to this.
Review 99:Comfortable and nice rooms with good facilities.
Review 100:I stayed on a Saturday night and needed to get some sleep and be up early the next morning. The level of noise and disturbance from the bar downstairs and from drunks in the street right below bedroom window until 1:45 am was ridiculous. Not a good choice of location for anyone actually wanting to sleep....... No staff on reception when I arrived or left. Took ages for one of the bar staff to find anyone to check me in at 5:30 pm. Reception also unattended when I left at the checking out time of 11am. Wifi very poor, TV reception poor, no BBC 1 or 2
Review 101:Good central location
Review 102:Too little parking for the number of rooms and the staff at breakfast were somewhat overwhelmed.
Review 103:Everything was as one would anticipate, but nothing shone out as exceptional..
Review 104:The entertainment in the Inn in the evening was poor but we just heard the end so not a real problem.
Review 105:The staff were smiling and polite. Some areas of the actual room could do with better cleaning but for the money it was up to the mark and more than adequate.
Review 106:The bathroom accommodation was rather compact and the room was bare, however it satisfied my needs for a one night stay.
Review 107:The location was good and near the cathedral, shops and restaurants. The hotel is quaint and has some historical appeal as well.
Review 108:Very convenient for the town centre, where we attended a party, clean and tidy, if a little dated. Helpful friendly staff.. Breakfast was OK (not good or bad, but OK)
Review 109:The Wifi connection wasn't, really - which may be a general problem in Ely, but maybe expectations should be lowered if it is going to be so patchy.
Review 110:Lamb Hotel is slap bang in the heart of Ely - very easy to find, very central for cathedral, museum, Cromwell's house
Review 111:The hotel was understaffed for breakfast on the Saturday morning. Service slow and food served was lookwarm. The room was a bit tired and opening windows (warm day) was tricky. The reception was rarely manned and we had to ask serving staff to attend to us more than once.
Review 112:Great location. Staff friendly
Review 113:Poor service at breakfast and a range of hot meals ordered and received with comments such as overcooked kippers, no toast ,incorrect orders and poor standards of food....poached egg was grey and the scrambled egg looked unappetising. No mayonnaise at lunchtime. V poor value for money for my friends Caesar salad.
Review 114:Good value fish and Chips for lunch
Review 115:The only down side was the full english breakfast it had been cooked earlier and kept warm. That was the only thing I could find fault with.
Review 116:My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the lamb. We stayed in room 11 with a four poster bed, large bathroom separate bath and shower. Couldn't fault the room or the friendly staff. We would definitely stay again.
Review 117:A £100 a night is very very overpriced. The room was ok but nothing special and it looked out onto a very noisy street. Woken in the night a lot by cars and noisy people
Review 118:Friendly staff decent breakfast. Free wifi
Review 119:Poor breakfast. Eggs undercooked and my husband didn't get anything on the last day due to too long a wait and a train to catch.
Review 120:Location and cleanliness of room.
Review 121:The parking is a bit of a pain as the space at the hotel is rashter limited. We did manage to get a spot both nights, but it was a worry in case we didn't.
Review 122:We were on the second floor on this visit which was a bit of a trial, but the hotel has guranteed us a more accessible room on the first floor for our next stay later this month - we very much appreciated their help!
Review 123:Room was noisy as we had to have window open due to room being hot and stuffy. fan in room but too noisy to leave on all night. Pillows very hard but we're changed upon request.
Review 124:Breakfast was excellent Reception staff very helpful
Review 125:There was a mix up with the booking as we needed a ground floor room and they only hade one for the first night. Therefore we had to move to another hotel for two nights.
Review 126:Food. Very friendly staff.
Review 127:Possibly the worst restaurant service that I've ever seen. The untrained and inept staff were unhelpful, rude, obstructive. Other customers telling racist / sexist jokes and farting loudly at dinner doesn't help either.
Review 128:Reception staff lovely. Room great for the money. Simple and clean.
Review 129:The room, a single was small and very hot and stuffy. A fan was provided but was far to small to be effective. The overall appearance was that the room was'tired' and a little shabby
Review 130:Helpfulness of staff
Review 131:Found trying to park the car very stressful on the Saturday had to move it three times before a space was available in the hotel car park.
Review 132:The Hotel was very central for our needs, and very near to all amenities. The staff were most helpful
Review 133:We drove around the town for quite awhile trying to find a space although we eventually got one on the hotel car park. There are very limited spaces and many of the public car parks have a 2 hour maximum.
Review 134:The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was great.
Review 135:The hotel was very basic and dated. The price was far too high for what we got, though we noted that rates at the hotel itself were far lower than what we paid. Air conditioning noise was annoying. We feel we were ripped off.
Review 136:Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
Review 137:The parking was free, but very limited and our car was parked in, leaving them no choice but to wake the person blocking our car so she could move hers. They have a bad infestation of those pesky little flies in the dining room. Very hard to sit and have a quiet drink when you have to keep flies out of your drink.
Review 138:The hotel was in an excellent location. Just around the corner from the cathedral. Being in the cente of town, it was very close to all the local shops, market, bus stops.
Review 139:It is a rather basic hotel with an old and awkward layout to have tocontend with. Despite the fact that we asked months ahead for a reservedpark, we were left to fend for ourselves.
Review 140:It was about al that was available!!
Review 141:Surprising amount of traffic through the night and early morning, particularly sirens; bathroom door a possible threat to anyone on the loo!
Review 142:Dog friendly; location right in the middle of town by the cathedral; parking (the manager even reserved us a place one busy evening when we were going out); our three teenage boys had a great, spacious room
