Reviews for The Nyton Guesthouse

Review 1:Trouble keeping bathroom door closed....catch weak with no locking system

Review 2:View over well kept gardens Friendly staff Great breakfast Complimentary bottled water in room

Review 3:Not really a bad experience, but the room was old fashioned & had a useless wardrobe (6" deep!) Pretty feeble shower (but good hot water) Dog stay charges were excessive at £10 per dog per night with nothing provided- no drinking bowls, Bonios nor "poo sacks".

Review 4:Friendly staff Good food (substantial helpings too!) Very quiet.

Review 5:Shower room on the small size - But plenty of clean towels!

Review 6:Very nice family hotel - 10 out of 10 ! very good full english cookedbreakfast with a very good value stop over - would have liked to beenable to stay longer!

Review 7:Reception staff were more or less non-existent. Restaurant closed without any prior wwarning..

Review 8:Location of the property was good central to the town of Ely and its Cathedraql

Review 9:limited WIFI coverage, radiator was not working properly and attention to decoration needed especially on window frames.

Review 10:Excellent location with parking

Review 11:Not totally en-suite, washbasin in bedroom area. Wi-fi tended to drop out while using.

Review 12:Facilities, pleasant location, (although not as centrally situated as we would have liked).

Review 13:Although it was very clean with plenty of towels, the bathroom was tiny.

Review 14:Excellent location, close to the city centre but quiet with plenty of parking. Nice staff and great breakfast.

Review 15:En-suite facilities barely met the description. Breakfast main course was pre-cooked and mediocre. Although clean bedroom had a very dated and muddled look about it.

Review 16:We were near enough to walk into Ely.

Review 17:The en-suite was a bit disappointing - shower/w.c. separate but the washbasin was in the bedroom.

Review 18:Comfortable hotel close to the city centre. Friendly staff, quiet location. Good food in the restaurant although a bit pricey. Nice breakfast. Clean accommodation but the room (and the hotel) could do with freshening up a bit.

Review 19:The young waiter and waitress got drunk on the premises and got intosome violence/ noise downstairs after hours on the Saturday . Thiscaused distress to my brother-in-law in the downstairs room. He has aserious disability (Parkinson's diagnosis) which is in the latestages of illness. You were kind enough to accommodate my other sisterand this brother-in-law downstairs. But, His sleep was seriouslydisrupted and his next day unhappy with illness. I didn't understandwhy the young waitress was dismissed and the waiter was not. This seemeda sexist and gender biased reaction from management. I really feltsympathy for the chef who tried to respond kindly and understandably toeveryone and to calm the discomfort experienced. Another party of 7 or 8women guests were also seriously unsettled by the incident. Finally, there has been no follow up response from your management by way of anapology, which is not good business. I am unlikely to return to yourGuest House and unlikely to recommend it to others because of this lackof contact with us afterwards.

Review 20:The chef who worked incredibly hard! The closeness to the Cathedralareas. The relative comfort for our occasion which was my sister's70th birthday. The food was very good indeed for our needs and it wasgreat to enjoy the meal in the comfort of our guesthouse.

Review 21:The room radiator couldn't be switched off and there were various other bits that didn't work

Review 22:Friendly informal atmosphere - good location. Was able to take our dogs

Review 23:Bathroom was cramped, but clean.

Review 24:Friendly and hard working staff. Good choice of bottled beer, sensible prices. Good breakfast and evening meals. Quiet location.

Review 25:If the management do anything, they should shut the door between Reception and the kitchen and keep it shut. The first impression is terrible - a smelly "back door", Unfortunately the rest was not much better, for example a toilet that flushed so weakly that not even toilet paper was washed away. We have cancelled a group booking for next year. As for a "stunning view" all we could see through the failed double glazing was a choked gutter and broken roof tiles.

Review 26:Although it was not cooked to order, the breakfast was good and the staff helpful.

Review 27:The fact that pets were allowed but there was no where to eat on site and not allowed to take into the breakfast room but wasn't advised prior to the trip

Review 28:Nice location warm fully equipped room and good facilities

Review 29:Our bedroom had a dreadful smell, stale water under the shower tray they think. The manager had known about this before our stay but failed to get it sorted. The Manager was very rude when I asked for a discount because of this smell, but did eventually relent and give a small discount. He stated he didnt care about negative reviews as no one read them. Open plan stairs from the bar area led to our room with no fire door to block off the noise. Therefore it was very noisy until 2315 hrs on the Friday as the had a party on downstairs.

Review 30:Good location.

Review 31:Rather cramped room - only one easy chair. in a room for two people Obviously the management had tried to put everything into the room to qualify for four star. Iron behind television. Kettle had to be filled via a cup or glass- we could not get it to go under the tap.

Review 32:The staff - very friendly and very helpful. Appreciated the supply of bottled water

Review 33:Very friendly, helpful staff. Attractive, comfortable sitting room and dining room. Excellent breakfast.Good evening meal when wanted. Single malt whisky in the bar.Large lovely garden.

Review 34:A comfortable room with large window overlooking garden, trees and beyond. Very light and bright when the sun was shining - which it did now and then.

Review 35:Really nice old property in wooded surroundings. Traditional dining room set up with good plain food. Short walk from Ely centre & the Cathedral.

Review 36:Our bathroom smelt very damp and there was a bad smell in our bedroom. The furnishings in the rooms and the entire property really needed updating.

Review 37:The breakfast was well presented and the staff who served very friendly.

Review 38:The bathroom was TINY, far to small, was actually uncomfortable even going into it. Bad design all round. Ventilation in the dining room was poor, particularly when the sun was blazing during breakfast - uncomfortably hot.

Review 39:Spacious room. Very friendly maitre d' (chef too?). Nice ground outside the back of the property

Review 40:No one came to me at breakfast for a while with coffee etc and I wasnt told what the breakfast protocol was

Review 41:Made welcome and given a key to let myself in in the early hours

Review 42:Would of liked the bedroom & bathroom to be a little bit bigger for the money we paid and the room could of done with a little fridge in, when booking it said evening meals available but when we got there was told that nothing was available as his wife had gone out.

Review 43:The staff were very friendly & helpful, the breakfast was really good. very clean all through, very quite, within walking distance of town.

Review 44:Only one small niggle, which I've passed on to staff: no soap-dish in shower.

Review 45:Attractive flower baskets and garden; friendliness of staff; first-class evening meal; small bar in lovely sitting room.

Review 46:Hard to connect to the Wi-Fi in the bedroom.

Review 47:The staff were very friendly. The young lady who served breakfast and then cleaned the rooms was always cheerful and nothing was ever too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. She's a credit to the hotel.

Review 48:We had a fantastic time at The Nyton. We ate at the restaurant which was lovely and they catered excellently for my allergy and were always helpful for our needs, even to opening the bar in the evening after the wife and I had a long day. Robert was definitely a host in a million.

Review 49:Not happy that NO lock on the bedroom door and bathroom door,in my mind these things are important,I stay in many Hotel's,did not like to go to sleep knowing someone could remove a key from the reception and walk in during the night.

Review 50:Beautul Garden.

Review 51:Nothing really, everything was satisfactory

Review 52:The website is not allowing me to rate the property but we found it very comfortable and will certainly use it again

Review 53:Poor restaurant facility. Had to choose from menu by 6 pm. Service very very slow even though only 2 or 3 other diners. One staff member doing everything - bar, phone, kitchen etc. He was extremely pleasant though. Overpriced at £99 for very basic room - trailing sockets etc.

Review 54:Lovely old house. Peaceful surroundings.

Review 55:No hot water pressure in en suite bathroom. En suite bathroom door did not shut. Unacceptable request for credit card information during 'check in' - potentially unlawful!

Review 56:Location

Review 57:The Nyton guesthouse is situated a short walk from Ely cathedral. This small hotel is full of character and set in beautiful gardens that back on to Ely golf course.

Review 58:We asked for a walk in shower which was not provided which caused inconvenience. The business organisation appeared a bit haphazard.

Review 59:Comfortable and in a nice setting.

Review 60:The dinner that we order as a group of friends on the first night was a long time in coming and some of the things that were ordered was not available.

Review 61:It is a lovely house within an excellent setting, rooms are good with good facilities we were very comfortable there, will go again.

Review 62:Service poor. Perfuntory welcome, manager closed bar almost as soon as we sat down (8.45pm), then grudgingly got us a drink. Would have liked a pleasant evening with a couple drinks in the hotel bar, but didn't feel very welcome.

Review 63:Beautiful house and garden and room comfortable and clean. Well located for town centre.

Review 64:Unusual to have washbasin in room with shower and WC in "en suite", but we managed OK. More towel rails needed

Review 65:Comfortable, clean room, friendly staff, very good selection at breakfast, lovely quiet setting

Review 66:Country house hotel in a quiet area of Ely with friendly staff who provided an excellent service. Clean, well equipped room, good shower, comfortable bed, very nice breakfast.

Review 67:Tranquil setting but only ten minute walk into city centre. There was a warm welcome and a well equipped room. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

Review 68:Nothing..it's an old building..with character, just loved it.

Review 69:The Nyton was spotless,I'm very fussy,so it's the first thing I notice. My breakfast was absolute delicious...full English at its best. Would recommend..

Review 70:En suite toilet/shower is tiny. We are both slim, but struggled to manoeuvre. Bed side lights fixed to headboard resulted in cracked heads!!

Review 71:Great location for exploring Ely on foot, very quiet.

Review 72:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 73:The room was comfortable and immaculately clean. Ample free parking. Good breakfast - I asked for, and received, a veggie sausage. Pleasant and helpful staff - our breakfast waitress was delightful. Excellent location, only 5 minutes' walk from Ely.

Review 74:Dangerous wiring in what was a family room. Hair dryer labelled 'do not use'. Accessibility to room - 3 stairwells the last one being particularly narrow.

Review 75:Not a complaint but more a suggestion to the Management that a buffet style continental breakfast is available for those who need to be on their way before the posted 7:30am breakfast start time.

Review 76:The decor in the public areas is reminiscent of pre-war Britain. I especially liked the access through the lounge onto the lawn facing the golf course. .

Review 77:Old building, there is no insulation against noise so it was noisy, my room was very small and was not clean enough, there was a big spider on the wall.

Review 78:Good location, just 10 minutes walk to train station and 6-7 minutes to attrications. Good full English breakfast and internet speed.

Review 79:Having an upper sheet on the bed. Feeling that nothing was too much trouble and that everywhere was scrupulously clean. Having three towels each. Fabulous breakfast.

Review 80:Hotel was very clean with a modern shower and bathroom and the breakfast was excellent. Quiet and peaceful with a lovely garden. Staff were very friendly.

Review 81:Serious family health issue meant we needed to change booking twice, albeit all more than 48 hours before date of proposed stay. Accept that this would inconvenience the hotel but not sure they were entitled to charge £20. Have not argued the charge the health matter is far more important

Review 82:N/A

Review 83:It was like the staff knew you. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Brilliant chef & the Russian lady serving breakfast was just great.

Review 84:No complaints at all.

Review 85:A le carte breakfast was fantastic. Helpful and cheery staff! Lovely view from our room, nice quiet location but just ten mins walk from main City.

Review 86:Although close, it's not in the middle of this charming town

Review 87:quiet, spacious, comfortable and, to our surprise, the evening meal (which we didnt expect) comes highly recommended by AA for fresh homegrown simplicity

Review 88:Be ready to hear all the sounds in the building. Staff was not extremely friendly, especially in the morning.

Review 89:Great location, gorgeous big back yard, close to RW station, Ely cathedral and town promenade street.

Review 90:After first night told manager that we were going out for the morning but would be back by 11am as we had to get ready to go a wedding. Asked that our room be serviced while we were out. On return, room not serviced and as we started to get ready housekeeping turned up. Explained what was happening, could they do it later. On return later that night, room still not serviced. Not good enough really.

Review 91:The wi-fi offered was just ok. They had an alternative with good response but it was not offered to guests.g

Review 92:A short walk to the centre of town. Friendly staff. Good food. V comfortable bed.lovely setting and grounds.

Review 93:Small cramped bathroom. Instructions for use of shower would be helpful. We found out from another guest that it had to be turned on to full pressure to get warm water.

Review 94:Lovely view from bedroom into garden. Magnificent cedar trees in garden. View from car park to Ely Cathedral. Proximity to Ely Cathedral and the river. Very good breakfast. Nice dining room.

Review 95:Nothing worth mentioning

Review 96:In a very attractive residential area with a lovely and spacious lawn behind the guest house with majestic trees and lots of birds.

Review 97:Nothing

Review 98:Location was excellent for everything Room was large, airy and a nice haven after a long train ride Meals both breakfast and dinner were very good with decent choices on both menus Staff were very helpful and pleasant

Review 99:I didn't have a bad experience - my bed was very comfortable and my room clean, but it saddens me a little that single rooms tend to be at the top of the accommodation and the shower room/toilet was VERY small. The price was not unreasonable so perhaps next time I should just ask for a double room but for one person!

Review 100:I loved breakfast! Lovely dining room, friendly and efficient service, excellent breakfast.

Review 101:The shower area too small for access if as I am,have a disability. Also perhaps I'm fussy but I would prefer to be table served in stead of helping yourself to cooked breakfast which is under a heat lamp.It wasn't that hot although the sausages were the best part.

Review 102:The rooms were a good size, heating very good.

Review 103:Very clean and we'll cared for. Our bedroom had all the things we needed such as hair dryer etc. good range of breakfast foods which we were able to help ourselves to.

Review 104:Room was very small. Ensuite so compact it borded on unuasable. Bed like concrete. Exposed wires on overbed lighting. Very dangerous. Bathroom door woukd not shut. No way to lock bedroom door from inside

Review 105:Hotel gardens

Review 106:For the ensuite basin it always took 5 mins for the hot water to arrive in the basin and the shower room was so small - hardly room to sit on the toilet comfortably (room 5). The radio couldnt be used as one of the knobs was broken

Review 107:Beautiful house & especially garden. Welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast Good shower

Review 108:Unfortunately short staffed on the evening. Booked a meal for 7pm. Trouble was they booked all the guests at 7pm. We did not get in until 7.20pm and as the only staff member was cooking, serving and acting as barman at the same time we were not even offered a drink. Had to ask for water at the table. Every meal served with chips. Road works closed off part of the road (coming in from the South) so had to detour right round to access the hotel.

Review 109:Close to town centre. Friendly staff

Review 110:Furnishings looking a little dated but comfortable.

Review 111:Location excellent for city centre. Location quiet and peaceful. Very helpful, friendly and accommodating.

Review 112:Bathroom could have been larger but this is determined by room setup.

Review 113:Quiet old house, full of character with pleasant gardens. Ease of access to other areas of Cambridgeshire. Good food - both breakfast and evening meals (tried a local pub and preferred the Nyton). .

Review 114:Would have been helpful to know in advance that the restaurant was closed on the night of our stay. However, the staff recommended a good alternative reataurant. Breakfast was OK but the staff could have been more attentive.

Review 115:Easy walk into town. Good parking and facilities. Medium size clean room was fine for short stay.

Review 116:The bed was very soft which is not to my liking but of course will suit others.

Review 117:It was in a good place for our purpose and the staff were very pleasant

Review 118:There was no-one home at the Nyton when we arrived, but the key and a message was left, plus a phone number. Free parking. Warm room, Good shower, T/C, very comfortable bed. Nice lounge. Kind and friendly John (?) served us a good full English in the morning and was there at checkout. Restaurant and bar closed; we ate at The Cutter by the river- pretty good. Free parking in Ely, and the Stained Glass Museum is excellent. We would definitely return to the Nyton.

Review 119:No complaints.

Review 120:Robert and the staff did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Food was lovely. Location was perfect, just a few minutes walk from town.

Review 121:Probably due to being a little out of town, not many non-guests to justify a wider choice menu for evening meals.

Review 122:Very friendly staff, comfy accommodation. Lovely breakfast, well cooked and presented.

Review 123:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 124:The Hotel was extremely comfortable and good warm rooms. We were offered a meal when we arrived and it was an excellent meal. Everyone was very friendly. For Ely it was only 10 minutes walk. Throughly recommendable.

Review 125:The manager was rude; we had to wait 2 and a quarter hours for our room to be ready although we were told it would be ready by 2pm; the towels were damp and; the room was dirty; the room was noisy. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL

Review 126:The hotel was close to the Cathedral

Review 127:Location was perfect. It was quiet and an easy walk to town, Cathedral and river. You must have Chef Robert (Inn owner) make one of his fabulous dinners for you. Wonderful food and so reasonable.

Review 128:Sound proofing between rooms could be better. PAT testing needs updating. Lack of hot water to wash hand basin.

Review 129:Good food and bar available. Parking is good, close to hotel. Only 10 mins walk to Town center.

Review 130:The bed was not the most comfortable, and the pipes are very noisy. Was woken once or twice by other guests using the bathroom.

Review 131:Friendly staff, quiet atmosphere and a very relaxing atmosphere

Review 132:Warm, comfortable room with all amenities including usable mirrors, glass tumblers, sensibly sized towels and a good hot shower (walk in). Large car park and good taxi service.

Review 133:The breakfast was not as hot as it should have been, plates needed to be warmed before serving.

Review 134:The Nyton was pleasantly old fashioned with wainscotting in the hall and dining room. The dining room was bright with good views into the garden. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. It overlooked a beautiful large garden. The breakfast offered cereal with fruit and yogurts followed by a cooked breakfast. It was in a quiet street in a lovely 1925 house which was set back from the road, but close to the town centre. Good view of the cathedral from the garden.
