Reviews for Hythe Imperial Hotel, Spa & Golf
Review 1:We got to stay in newly refurbished room, it was lovely! The staff are very helpful and friendly, I would highly recommend and hope to stay there again in the future
Review 2:None.
Review 3:The hotel is in the middle of a refurb and is being done to a very high standard. Our room wasn't refurbed and although required it was still good. Clean and roomy. Beds good . Great smart Tv . Superb breakfast. Very dog friendly didn't charge for dog.
Review 4:Scaffolding and building work and noise. Tried to move rooms but only the old ones left. Noise started at just before 0800. Breakfast in bed order hung on the door was uncollected. Breakfast was cold, uncooked and not to order. No butter with toast which was only half done. The paper ordered was also totally forgotten about. No mention of a 10 pound tray charge. Treatments all booked up. As this was meant to be a birthday celebration overall the experience was not just very bad but completely unprofessional in every aspect of our short stay. We stay in places all over the world in my work related travels and this is a typical shabby hotel we have come to expect from the uk unless you pay for a very expensive hotel.
Review 5:The bar and the food in there. The swimming pool and jacuzzi.
Review 6:The lack of availability of spa treatments. (Need to book way in advance). The expensive menu and drinks. The noisy guests in room above. Staff did ask them to be quiet when I contacted reception at 3am, however unacceptable noise appears to be subject to time scales, so at other times of day, although intrusive to me, it had to be accepted. Room change was offered on my last night. Declined, as having had very little sleep I didn't have energy to move!
Review 7:The size of the room. The cleanliness. The polite staff.
Review 8:The room was a little cold as the heating on a timer. No problem as staff were helpful finding a portable heater.
Review 9:great hotel, the spa facilities were great, lovely warm pool and adult only sessions. perfect escape. breakfast choice was good
Review 10:the rooms service and food was terrible, room service was not room service, i was made to go down to the main bar to pay for my food!! i do not class that as having room service, when the waiter came and brought the food to us he asked me to sign to say i had received it, i asked him if he had a pen he said no!! so i had to search around to try to find a pen. i ordered the burger and chips with coleslaw, the chips were not cooked the burger was plain with no sauce and had a soggy roll. no sauce came on the whole tray, i ordered 2 portions of onion rings for both of us and only 1 came. as i had been waiting for 50 minutes for my order i decided not to eat it and just go to bed.
Review 11:loved the downstairs decor, the room decor was very old fashioned style but was very clean.
Review 12:The weather, but hotel can't control that...
Review 13:Great stay from start to finish. Suite was excellent as was breakfast. Bar facilities also good, but can't comment on dinner as we ate out.
Review 14:Can't see how this hotel can be rated as 4 star hotel. Bigest part of hotel was under restoration. The older part was last refreshed must be over 30 years ago. We were put in one of the old rooms. Terrible carpet terrible uncomfortable beds and bedding terrible nice coming from ,I assumed airconditioning system. Had to buy ear plugs for the second night of our stay but could not sleep anyway as the pillows were the most uncomfortable you can ever imagine. Pool ceiling was damaged, changing rooms and showers always dirty. Lift in the building was constantly used by builders so hotel guests had to carry their suitcases up and down using stairs.
Review 15:The only thing I liked was food. Was tasty and good portions.
Review 16:Room not made up before 3pm on a weekend changeover day. Noisy, intrusive scaffolding work outside window early on a Saturday morning, and all day
Review 17:Comfort, quick response of staff to queries and minor problems, breakfast good
Review 18:On a windy night, the windows were rattling loud enough to keep me awake for most of it. Fairly ridiculous to have had that happen. Also, the staff were overall not that great: neither were they particularly friendly, nor did I appreciate the odd bouts of racism in the restaurant where some staff assumed we were with or, worse, confused us for another Indian family just because I'm also Indian.
Review 19:The location was excellent as were the pool and gym facilities.
Review 20:We were a bit disappointed with dinner in the restaurant - the staff struggled to cope with one waiter speaking no English at all - not even the names of the dishes he was serving. Felt sorry for him. The food was not great and not cheap either. Never again!
Review 21:The room was newly decorated and a good size. The bed was wonderfully comfortable - we slept very well.
Review 22:Location. Booked 3 rooms on 2 separate occasions. One room was cancelled by mistake. Reservations dept were excellent and sorted it out with no fuss week before arrival. Good breakfast.
Review 23:The extra bed for children was of poor quality and the rooms on the upper three floors neef renovation (is being worked on).
Review 24:The hotel is well located, has a nice pool and friendly staff.
Review 25:I would have liked a proper tea pot at breakfast time. Slight language barrier with the restaurant staff !
Review 26:Lovely helpful staff who changed our room to accommodate a change in circumstances. Lovely sea view. warm, clean and spacious. Great pool and spa facilities .
Review 27:The service in the bar and bar food in the evening was far short of the overall excellent stay in hotel
Review 28:There r two room suites which accommodate extra beds which r ideal for families with younger children
Review 29:The accommodation is hit and miss and we got a miss. The room was tired, scruffy and musty to say the least. Other rooms have been updated and appear much better and I probably should have kicked up a fuss and insisted on moving but I didn't book a 4star hotel for a confrontation over the room thanks although 6nights in that room was pants. Why do establishments such as this allow smokers to sit at the entrance for everyone else to walk through their clouds of fumes? It's a good job the building site next door, which we had a lovely view of, was closed down for the holidays! Room service breakfast was interesting we ticked off the items we wanted on the hotel card and left it out but got 2 identical meals that bore no resemblance to what we ordered and the croissants on the tray were like bricks!
Review 30:The staff whose friendliness and helpfulness improved review score significantly.
Review 31:We thought the the hotel was expensive for what it had to offer.
Review 32:We had a large room but the bath room needed updating and the carpets needed to be changed .
Review 33:When we arrived they had no information over our booking through Booking.com. Even though the hotel was very full they soon found us a room. In fact the room was much better than ones we have used on previous visits.
Review 34:Was quite busy , and service in dining tended to be a bit slow and housekeeping only cleaned our rooms once after having to make a big effort for it to happen, more or less just cleaned the bathroom only.
Review 35:Staff extremely friendly and helpful, we stayed for christmas with my big family older and younger kids, close relatives, and for some reason did not have our christmas party booked, and was faced with a hungry Christmas. "Barbara" front lady was so quick to the rescue and in no time everything was planned without any of our children and other family members ever realising the dilemma we were threatened with.
Review 36:Tired old rooms and bunk beds not really safe for small children Staff seems a bit confused about what they were doing and running around all over the place
Review 37:Great price
Review 38:Drafts through old windows, plus poor shower on first room allocated. When moved room, much improved.
Review 39:View of the sea even through old windows. Beds quite comfortable. We were moved to a much nicer room second day.
Review 40:Our rooms we're too hot and we discovered the thermostaat too late so unfortunatey we didn't sleep well. We'll know next time though.
Review 41:Loved the pool and spa, great fun family time. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Great breakfast.
Review 42:When we arrived to our room, it was very disappointing. I expected the rooms to match the first impression of the hotel, but it was quite the opposite. Our room was dark and dingy, very tired and old fashioned, and didn't seem clean. There were coat hangers hanging around the room on picture frames and the old chairs looked dirty. The room smelt of damp - we were very uncomfortable. We asked to move rooms, and the manager came to our room and my boyfriend said 'we can't stay in here it's smells and is so dingy' the manager had no hesitation and agreed straight away. We moved to a room that smelt better altough it was still very disappointing. Very old fashioned and it didn't feel clean. The shower was horrendous, with cracks above in the cealing. I was freezing all night and could feel the breeze from outside even though the windows were shut. In the morning I went to work but my boyfriend stayed for breakfast - he had a tiny plate full, in which he helped himself but was still charged £14.95. Our room only cost £59 but we have stayed in much better b&b's and hotels for this money. I would not return to this hotel.
Review 43:As you enter the building, the sea views are beautiful and the building appeared well kept. The reception area is beautiful as you walk in.
Review 44:Nothing bad to report at all
Review 45:The hotel and facilities are currently being updated and the work is to a very high standard. For the price we paid it was an absolute bargain!
Review 46:Reception staff: Been here twice. First receptionist brusque. Second receptionist damned unfriendly. checking out staff both pleasant and friendly Wi Fi so very, very slow.
Review 47:location, room size, facilities and comfort.
Review 48:Uncomfortable bed, too hot! U can't change temp and it was way too warm. Bathroom door wldnt close and Tiolet was faulty. Spa bath in the leisure facilities was very cold too.
Review 49:Pool area, size of room. Staff friendly
Review 50:Very small lift Tired room (refurbishment in progress though) Noise from the adjacent building site that had a generator running all night
Review 51:Great entrance lobby / reception Breakfast Feeling of quality
Review 52:My card was debited twice for the cost of the stay.Fortunately I spotted the error the next day and rang the hotel to get it rectified but it shouldn't have happened.
Review 53:very clean and spacious. Comfortable bed and good shower.Helpful, polite reception staff. Nice breakfast.
Review 54:This hotel is now a bit worn around the edges, my bathroom looked kind of grimey in places and the room door had definitely seen better days. The worse thing for me though, was the temperature, it was so hot in my room that even with the window open all day and all night, I found it difficult to sleep.
Review 55:The pool with jacuzzi and steam room is a great way to relax at the end of the day. This is a big spacious, grand looking hotel but....
Review 56:Didn't have a bad experience but criticisms are; I was asked if I wanted a wake up call - something I hadn't thought of but asked for a 7am one which never actually happened - odd to actually offer something if you aren't going to do it. The date I stayed the hotel was very quiet and at breakfast there weren't many of us - the waiting staff hovered over my table in a way that made me feel a bit uncomfortable - at least three different staff pacing round the tables, it was quite unnerving and I rushed through my breakfast to get away from it which was a shame as the food was very good. Minor things - could have done with shampoo and conditioner in room, what was there was like a shower gel fixed to the wall and I was expecting separate products; shampoo, conditioner, soap etc. Also I was there for a short time and chose hotel because of pool but there was a 90 minute aqua-aerobics class on at that time which meant I couldn't swim - may be worth putting something about classes on the blurb next to pool info.
Review 57:Great room, lovely location, lovely pool and sauna. Staff were very friendly and hotel looks lovely in terms of decor.
Review 58:friendly and attentive staff. very good value for money, booked an overnight stay following a work Christmas "do " at said hotel which was arranged at short notice . Would recommend for both a stay and for a function. Have attended a wedding at venue previously so had no concerns about staying here nothing to dislike
Review 59:All the staff were very friendly and happy to help in any way and we were always greeted on entering the hotel and on leaving for the day was wished a nice day out.
Review 60:Some of the furniture starting to look a little tired, builders, glassware and crockery outside rooms for several hours. Receptionist on my arrival could have been more friendly, possibly smiled? ALL the other staff were lovely. None of the above spoiled my stay
Review 61:nice large room with an excellent view, friendly staff (bar one)
Review 62:When arrived only one night reserved although booking was for 3. luckily had confirmation and was changed but makes me think about using booking.com again? Fully booked spa so no pamper sessions available Fri or Sat. Subsequetly told by freinds need to book these ahead.
Review 63:Very relaxed, Hythe hgh street late night opening was brill.
Review 64:jacuzzi not working and as we were there on a Wednesday disappointed to find out that no one was even looking at it before the Friday. Annoying but also more annoying was that the pool was closed from 5.00pm until 7.30pm for aquaerobics!!! My husband travels back from logon in order that we can relax in the 'spa' before dinner. Didn't happen!!!
Review 65:Room spacious but very tired - peeling wallpaper, paint missing, etc After having specifically said that I did NOT want a full breakfast, Reception advised me to go to the restaurant anyway as nowhere else open for coffee. I was then charged £14.95 for a coffee and a slice of toast. Eventually this was reduced after a long argument with the Reception Manager - policy to charge full breakfast amount for any visit to the restaurant, and refused to accept that this should have been pointed out to me.
Review 66:Public rooms and SOME bedrooms decently refurbished. Good location and elegant building
Review 67:It's looking a little tired now, and the disruption caused by renovation works - noisy building site machinery just outside our bedroom window - didn't make a good impression. If I had paid the normal rate instead of booking.com price I would have been very unhappy.
Review 68:This was obviously once a very grand hotel, and I appreciated the family room we had with separate bedroom for my children. I paid less than £60 on booking.com
Review 69:We reported that one bed-side light wasn't working but it wasn't fixed in 2 days and nights. A very small complaint I know but I like to read in bed and couldn't.
Review 70:As always the breakfast is wonderful & the opportunity to use the pool & sauna makes it good value for money. Rather early for Christmas but it looked so beautiful I am glad the decorations and lights were there
Review 71:The reception staff were very offhand when we arrived and ignored us completely when we wanted to check out. The receptionist started to deal with someone behind us and even continued when we pointed out we had been waiting, not at all impressed. The bar staff were also slow, the bar was virtually empty but it took us at least ten minutes to get a drink and to order some food, they also seemed to have their favourites as me and another lady were waiting to be served yet they attended to someone who just turned up at the bar immediately.
Review 72:Comfortable, nice room, adequate breakfast
Review 73:strong draft through window,no heating bathroom needs careful cleaning shower had to be tilted as screen only went part way limited menu, food warm not well cooked as requested, took 40mins to tired and hungry to complain at time.
Review 74:public area,s as advertized 2nd person we had to ask on reception was the only one to provide a heater for the room
Review 75:Service in bar was awful , only 1 member of staff & had to wait ages to be served on sat aternoon,Sunday was worse after waiting 7 mins with no one in sight i asked someone who said"wait a min" fid eventually get served after 12 mins not really acceptable.
Review 76:Our room 211 was beautiful, really comfortable & would ask for that room if we came again .
Review 77:Parking was an issue. This was because golfers used the same parking facilities so at times spaces were very limited.
Review 78:Due to location we decided to have our evening meal in the hotel restaurant and were delighted at the service and the quality of food - thank you
Review 79:Our room although excellent did not have a sea view. We sat at breakfast overlooking building works and scaffolding. Couldn't even see the Beach. disappointing as it was a very special birthday treat for my husband. (80th)
Review 80:The room was excellent, especially after an up-grade by our Daughter.
Review 81:The staff were very helpful and friendly, and very professional. The room was very nice and the update of the hotel is starting to look really nice.
Review 82:Room very warm and didn't seem to be able to control the temp. Room on second floor decor a bit tied and needs redecoration.
Review 83:Very peaceful and comfortable stay. Great breakfast. Nice swimming pool. Staff friendly. Great view of sea from room.
Review 84:Staff were wonderfully accommodating and especially good with our children (3 & 1 years old). Hotel facilities were superb - we used the pool which was warm enough for the kids, and ate in the bar area. Fridge in the room is something of a rarity these days, but very useful. Sleeping on the top bunk was a special treat for our daughter
Review 85:The constantly banging door in the corridor on 3rd floor, a slower closing mechanism would help! Also building work going on at front of hotel not great!
Review 86:The spa facilities and the view of the sea. Good breakfast !
Review 87:Small Bottle of Leffe costs £4.95 (My wallet is still upset)
Review 88:Amazing decore & beautiful Views. The staff were really polite and although the food was expensive, which you wouldn't expect less from a posh place like this, it was really nice. I'd stay here again in a heart beat ?
Review 89:Our meal in the restaurant wasnt good but we complained and wasn't charged for it so that was very kind of them
Review 90:All the staff were very friendly ..,
Review 91:The staff was very unapologetic about a fire alarm that went off in the middle of the night. That can happen of course. However, if they had expressed some form of regret, it would have been nice: but just a facetious answer does not cut it. We did not expect a rebate or anything, just an apology. Thumbs down for that.
Review 92:Room was quiet (apart from a fire alarm going off in the middle of the night on one of the nights).
Review 93:Beautiful hotel in wonderful location looking over the see. Staff are very helpful and nothing is to much trouble. Disabled room facilties was excellent and beautifully decorated.
Review 94:nothing
Review 95:we like the location, the hotel it's self was great, the staff were all very nice & helpful. we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more, would most certainly go back.
Review 96:The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. Although the weather was bad the area is excellent and we would visit again.
Review 97:Lower floors refurbished. Upper floors not refurbished and in need of refurbishment. Reception staff slow. Bar staff totally disinterested.
Review 98:Location good, Wifi good, Gym, Pool and Spa good.
Review 99:when we first arrived they had put us up on the fourth floor even though i had specifically requested ground floor due to my disability. they said there were lifts however they are tiny and old and very claustrophobic. it caused me to be extremely upset, however they did manage to move us downstairs when i said we were going to leave the next morning. it was also disappointing that the pool and spa facilities were on a lower floor and that made it hard for me to get to. plus the spa was booked up so i couldn't have a massage. also when we needed help in the early hours of the morning no-one was available, the main doors were wide open and no-one was on reception. plus the price of half a pint of lemonade was 2.20 or full pint was 3.95 on the room service menu yet in the bar we were always charged 4.40 for every pint of lemonade when i queried this in reception they had no explanation for this.
Review 100:our room was lovely, newly refurbished and so very clean. the staff were great and helpful. the bed was massive and so comfortable that we slept really well.
Review 101:Noisey bedroom having to phone reception to get this sorted. Dirty spoon in room, guttering dripping all night on to flat roof, mirror in bathroom not working, shower tray not set right and leaks on to bathroom floor, no bath in newly refurbished room. Woman on reception rude in front of guests to her restaurant staff personnel - not at all professional.
Review 102:The staff are very polite & helpful; but you certainly need a sense of humour as traits of Fawlty Towers were apparent! The food was very average.
Review 103:Very comfortable clean hotel.
Review 104:Our room old needs refurbishing on 4th floor and so so noisy ? Air conditioning droning noise all night Daughter had beautiful refurbished room ground floor
Review 105:Staff were professional and attentive
Review 106:Friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in one of the exec rooms and loved the spa facilities in the hotel. Great location and Hythe is a beautiful place. Cannot wait to return!
Review 107:Only the dining - the dining room lacked atmosphere, the decor is too light. The staff were very attentive although we were asked to order the wine before seeing a menu. Staff uniform is a bit weird - old fashioned feel which doesn't go with the bright room. The food was well cooked but the a la carte menu was very limited and difficult for vegetarian choices. It all seemed a bit out of date to us. Formal dining with the wrong setting. Sorry but we loved everything else and want to return next year for a celebration but we discussed going elsewhere to eat.
Review 108:Friendly staff. Excellent spa and leisure facilities.
Review 109:On arrival reception staff where very friendly and helpful the staff all over the hotel where very helpfull and polite made us feel welcome room was clean and nice food was good
Review 110:Outstanding reception service when we arrived. Booked a standard double room, didn't expect a huge room with sea views! Swimming pool and spa area lovely. Could hear gentle sea from the room, really relaxing. Am planning my next visit!
Review 111:Plenty of things to do very good sites to see
Review 112:From the time we arrived to the time we went , we had amazing service , very warm and friendly welcome from staff
Review 113:It was all good, nothing to dislike.
Review 114:Staff very friendly, helpful and upgraded us when there was a problem with our booking. They could not have done more to help us.
Review 115:Old room cracks in wall bathroom tile broken bed very uncomfortable
Review 116:Location and staff very helpful as my booking from booking. Com had not been received found us a room
Review 117:Restaurant at dinner a little pretentious. Salmon starter more like an amuse bouche, main course much better.
Review 118:The location, with uninterrupted views of the English Channel. Free upgrade from superior double to suite
Review 119:The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and parts are quite dated. Our room was one of the recently refurbished ones, however the shower needed to be fixed on our arrival and the shower gel dispenser was empty. Both of these could be avoided by checking effectively on cleaning the room. A very noisy party was ongoing in the ballroom (which is a separate organisation and not under the control of the hotel) and it impacted on the hotel areas, including the restaurant, although our bedroom was quiet once inside. Whilst the meal was very good the restaurant staff were forgetful needing to be prompted on two occasions when items failed to arrive.
Review 120:Dinner in the restaurant was very good with excellent food and good service. When the defects in the room were raised with staff they were fixed promptly and effectively.
Review 121:The heating in the room was too hot overnight which made the room uncomfortable to sleep.
Review 122:Location was excellent. Breakfast was enjoyable. Room was a lovely size and liked the seperate children's room.
Review 123:most staff were not as naturally friendly or hospitable as we are used to so no naturals. Luckily, everything else with the hotel was wonderful
Review 124:Lovely renovated bedroom with small lounge , access to pool was a bonus for our young son. Relaxed bar area and ample parking
Review 125:Building works made it difficult to enter and exit the hotel on foot. Hard pillows. entrance at the rear so there was no sea view.
Review 126:nice to sit on the front balcony and look at the sea
Review 127:Room was top floor and very dated compared to down stairs.would say Our room was over priced.
Review 128:The entrance was lovely. Very grand looking nice bar. Room had lovely view.
Review 129:Loads of refurbishment work going on totally blocked view from Room106 with containers. Swimming pool changing rooms closed 1st day with terrible drains smell....and flooded the next day. Very poor, had to change in Mens/ladies Golf rooms....not easy with kids. Bar/food staff on Saturday afternoon unable to cope with volume of guests. 40 mins for a Latte! They new it was fully booked well in advance so why not plan for it.
Review 130:Friendly staff...but not enough at peak times. Nice food and freshly decorated rooms and communal areas very nice. Comfortable beds.
Review 131:Room was snabby and very very dated approx 40 year old decor I would say. However the hotel is in middle of major update and refurbished areas look good.
Review 132:Good reception welcome. Attentive staff. Great Latte
Review 133:Let down with no toast with my breakfast, iwas told it would be sent upto my room so I left the eggs until last, but no toast arrived so therest was wasted.
Review 134:Welcome at check in very basic room lovely if a little dated but bed awful. Downstairs refurbished but Lowe bar stunk of chip fat and so did we after one drink there
Review 135:Has potential in process of refurbishment but little things mean a lot ...customer service not what you would expect from 4 star hotel
