Reviews for Netherstowe House Hotel

Review 1:Cocktails were fabulous but expensive

Review 2:Beautiful Hotel with excellent staff and fabulous food in an unlikely setting. It isn't cheap but its still great value considering the experience of staying here.

Review 3:Improvements need to be made to the plumbing in the top floor Sewell room. The shower was at times cold and the plumbing was noisy. For a beautiful country house style hotel like Nethercote, I would expect fresh not artificial flowers. A real christmas tree and a real fire in the guest sitting room would add enormously to the experience.

Review 4:The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and helpful and really made our stay enjoyable. We were staying for the marriage of my daughter and we really appreciated the upgrade of her room to a beautiful suite. Thank you Netherstowe!

Review 5:The bed could have been a little bit more comfortable.

Review 6:15 of us ate in the steakhouse restaurant on Boxing Day and the food was great and good value and the staff were absolutely lovely. Drinks in the lounge pre and post dinner provided the added touch. Appartments very clean and spacious.

Review 7:The penthouse is quite something - a great space with a brilliant bathroom, bedroom and lounge, all done out with eclectic style. The food was superb and service very good throughout.

Review 8:Stayed in self catering apartments. Very noisy. Wouldn't stay in them again but wouldn't hesitate to stay in main Hotel building.

Review 9:Lovely Hotel nestled away.

Review 10:Would have liked a later breakfast - finished serving at 9 am. Very patchy internet service

Review 11:Delicious scrambled egg and smoked salmon for breakfast. Staff effort to resolve Internet issue was excellent - above and beyond!

Review 12:Not an easy place to find. Dinner in the cellar was fun, but would be a little creepy if not busy.

Review 13:The location is ideal for visiting the National Arboretum. The breakfast was very good

Review 14:Leaving to go home.

Review 15:Absolutely outstanding service throughout. Wonderful accommodation, superb food and the most helpful and polite staff we've encountered anywhere. SUPERB!

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Outstanding service from all staff members - nothing complicated just a warm smile and greeting. All requests listened to and actioned. When I asked the kitchen staff where the gym was they personally walked me across and let me in. I really felt like a valued customer . The hotel itself is Edwardian charm personified - thank you

Review 18:The room was beautiful & very roomy. The house & grounds were lovely. Staff were excellent. Finding the hotel was a little difficult as it is on a road just off Netherstowe Road which it has as it's address. Did not eat evening meal at the hotel as considered the prices rather high & drinks were a little expensive also however breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay again & would recommend to other friends.

Review 19:Not very comfortable queen sized bed . Dining room very crowded with tables, making it difficult to get to buffet breakfast . Rather mixed residential area setting.

Review 20:Quirky reception areas . Willing and helpful staff . Apartment accommodation excellent . Good breakfast . Safe and secure parking . Convenient and cheap taxis to centre of city .

Review 21:The new main course menu in the basement dining room did not really work. Too expensive for the offering. Starter fish sharing platter very enjoyable as was the dessert but overall the portions were similar to a taster menu.

Review 22:Apartment well equipped and decorated. Main house a tasteful recreation of an old country house

Review 23:The young staff were very well trained, polite, one girl even went to my car and got all my luggage for me and took it up 3 flights of stairs so I could join my friends. The house is cosy, friendly and the food was really lovely.

Review 24:Dinner in the Brasserie was overpriced - more than London prices - £9.00for a dessert. Good food but too expensive. Breakfast ok, but no fruitsalad and on one day they ran out of black pudding, croissants and theonly fruit left were apples and oranges - not suitable for putting on abreakfast plate.

Review 25:Beautiful room and superb overall decoration of the hotel, whichwas full of interesting antiques and quirky objects. Quality offood was good.

Review 26:Breakfast bar would benefit from fruit salad/ dried fruit.

Review 27:Perhaps the best country house hotel we have visited in a long time. Pleasant quiet location yet convenient to Lichfield city centre. Amusing rabbit-warren of an old house, our room (St.Chads) in the attic was huge and had every comfort, super modern bathroom with stand-alone bath, big walk-in power shower, lots of light including centre-hanging chandeliers, good size TV, fast wi-fi, tissues by the bed, biscuits, tea and kettle, fresh milk brought up, big comfortable bed. No view but so what? Evening meal in very smart dining room , excellent wine list (if a bit expensive), good food and excellent service. Staff efficient and friendly. All round excellent

Review 28:The breakfast table on our first morning was not clean. Stains and crumbs on the cloth. Service haphazard. Tea and coffee ordered during the afternoon arrived in cups which weren't clean, with lipstick clearly visible around the rim. Coffee lukewarm too.

Review 29:The apartment rooms were spotlessly clean.

Review 30:We needed a breakfast party for six adults, four children plus 1 year old birthday boy Henry. against all the odds, we were given the magnificent private dining room with attentive staff service and a wonderful family gathering. Fabulous, thank you all so much for making my stay in Lichfield so memorable. John Morris xxx

Review 31:This time we felt the "edge" was missing. No recognition on arrival, despite this being our 5 or 6 return and a sense that've were any old guest. Forgetfulness when serving waiting guests and we observed chatting staff in the hallway whilst guests were still at breakfast. Little things that probably do make the difference such as staff walking into the breakfast room and not saying "good morning" to the guests. Not replacing the white tablecloth before the next sitting for breakfast when it had marks and toast crumbs on it from the previous sitting and no spoon with the knife and fork. It's these little things that used to stand out in Netherstowe in the past which made you think they were running a very tight ship. My husband and I both said it felt like matron had taken the day off !

Review 32:We have been coming back to this hotel because we love their attention to detail and quality. The staff are polite, professional and efficient. From the moment you arrive in the driveway of this tucked away retreat the sense created by the staff is that if a by gone era with a hint of starchy smartness layered with "nothing is too much trouble" The level of service in the past has always been second to none with every member of staff showing pride in their work as well as following the script of how professional smartness matters.

Review 33:Major bug bear of mine. Cushions on bed. Look ok but never fresh - even at Netherstowe House Hotel. Other guests clearly used some as pillows. If cushions are a must, ensure the covers are washable, treated like pillow slips and changed regularly.

Review 34:Everything, except........

Review 35:Overuse of phrases such as "you're welcome" when thanked for removing plate. Rather over formal in dining room. I have never been served by staff in white gloves and that includes the Ritz. Shower in bathroom could scald if not careful. Noisy keys in door when neighbours going to bed after us but then it is a lovely old building. A drop of oil on doors would not go amiss. Also not sure if good hotel guide complains about loud Muzak in bar why do they not turn it down?

Review 36:In general very pleasant attentive staff. But really nice place to stay and very handy for Lichfield which is a gem. They really are trying hence a few comments which are I hope constructive.

Review 37:Unfortunately we only had one night at this beautiful hotel, the staff were amazing, the room was beautiful and spacious and the food was excellent. I would have loved to have stayed longer and will definitely revisit next time we are in the UK.

Review 38:There was no bad experience but we missed the facilities like air condition safe for the valuables , mini fridge , shaving mirror and light. Lack of control for the radiators.l

Review 39:Staff , size of the rooms, location, facilities, free parking ; well stay here again. Many thanks to all the staff.

Review 40:I found the bed and pillows uncomfortable. Felt more like the kind of thing your nan has in her spare room rather than a premium hotel's mattress and bed. Also the gym looked like it had never been used. The ceiling was just 7 foot high with weights in that I simply couldn't lift above my head because there wasn't space. Also bizarely a trampoline. A damp, basement that didn't dwell in. In the bedroom I couldn't work out how to turn off the lights above the bathroom mirror (unscrewed them in the end) and also there was a huge bathroom radiator stuck on maximum heat. Even with the windows open I ended up being too hot.

Review 41:Food was very good. Lovely grounds and building. The other guests seemed really nice too.

Review 42:The bed had a waterproof cover on the mattresss!'Really uncomfotable and sweaty - had ro remove it in middle of night because couldnt sleep. Apartment was spacious but not luxurious; no bath in large bathroom.

Review 43:Loved the old house and restaurants - fine dining was delicious and cellar bar steaks excellent in atmospheric surroundings. Staff polite and attentive. Good service.

Review 44:Bit of trouble getting into hotel in first place as door appeared to be locked at first.

Review 45:Room comfy and food excellent. Very quick to bring milk to room for tea. Nice ambiance.

Review 46:Very difficult to find. The bed was very uncomfortable and the duvet was too small being of a standard size on a king size bed. Huge shower cubicle but the projection of the shower head was such that it meant standing right up against the wall...poorly thought out. Breakfast was NOT four star and on the second morning we had to go and find someone to take our order!

Review 47:A pleasant walk into town and the cathedral. A quiet location and a comfortable room. The decor of the hotel was tasteful and very much in keeping with the property.

Review 48:From greeting you in the parking drive to pick up your bags and deliver to the room--to the reception cocktails--to the night staff who make sure get beck from a night out safe. Excellent staff--excellent service.

Review 49:I don't have anything negative to say other than the entrance to the hotel is in the middle of a housing estate. Unexpected and might be difficult to find if you aren't paying attention. There are signs on the main road.

Review 50:Great reception with no paperwork, beautiful surroundings, amazing service, stunning rooms. We stayed in St Chad...WOW! utterly charming. Breakfast delicious. Everyone so helpful. Touch of the glamour and service of a bygone era.

Review 51:Shower not great

Review 52:A really lovely quirky boutique hotel. We stay in hotels regularly and this is amongst the best!! Bedroom was large, very clean and lovely decor. Staff were friendly and could not do enough to make our stay a pleasent one! Breakfast was one of the tastiest I have had for a long while. Would definately stay here again.

Review 53:Monster room. Poor attention to detail. No internal phone meant asking for room service was a hassle. Called twice. Finally got through to be told that the chef was out of the kitchen and we would get it when we got it. The 2 sandwiches arrived 40 minutes later minus the chips. They arrived 20 minutes later. All 12 of them. Amazingly overcooked and raw simultaneously. Which in itself was an achievement. No condiments. Breakfast in bed wasn't much better. Cereal but no milk. Shower room extremely cramped with noisy plumbing and bathrobes that wouldn't look out of place on a hobbit. Heaven forbid you had to answer the door in one. Very noisy outside the hotel from the carpark in the morning where we had the pleasure of listening to another guests hands free phone conversation. But at least it distracted us from the overwhelming cooking smell seeping in from the corridor. Extremely disappointed. This hotel does not live up to its own hype.

Review 54:Staff friendly

Review 55:had a terrible starter delivered to us in the brasserie so overcooked and no justification with the comment its OK we will not charge for these on your bill like it was them doing me a favour! I feel they trade on the eclectic interiors and forget the more important issues, steps into bedrooms inn the main house difficult for elderly would not stay again

Review 56:The quirkiness of the hotel

Review 57:Our shower room in the courtyard apartment could do with re grouting or spraying with bleach, lots of mold

Review 58:The house is stunning and a beautiful place to take the wife

Review 59:Lots of stair cases going everywhere yu could get lost trying to find your way around, the only down side is that there is no lift, and I feel that this should be mentioned when booking or even on their web page, but a very nice place to stay.

Review 60:The staff were exceptional in there attentiveness nothing was to much trouble, the food was very good. Very oldy world great if you like that sort of thing.

Review 61:The sofa bed was uncomfortable and inadequate for two. There was a jug of milk in the fridge but it would have been nice to find a bottle of water, even if tap water. I wish more thought had been given to us as a family with a young child. I think the venue is very much geared up to making adults happy and if we had travelled on our own, we would have been more than happy. However, I think the restaurant which we visited at breakfast was way too formal for young children. Perhaps, we could have been directed to the more informal lounge area for example? We know that you can't please all of the people all of the time and please be aware that we think it is a fabulous place, the service we received was second to none and Anna the lady that greeted us was amazing with our daughter - to be honest that was probably the most lasting memory of our stay. Remember, if you make sure the children are happy and entertained, this will please the parents no end and entice them to come back again and again.

Review 62:The apartment was great and excellent value for the money. The hotel was beautiful and I wish we had had chance to sample the delights of the fabulous restaurant downstairs!

Review 63:Rowdy wedding party and loud muzac kept us awake most of the night. The location is in the middle of a suburban housing estate with no real grounds. The restaurant was rather pretentious with very ordinary food.

Review 64:Lovely room and comfortable bed.

Review 65:Restaurant and bar closed on Sunday evenings and our stay was on a Sunday. However, it is a family run business, so I can understand they deserve time off.

Review 66:Reception on arrival brilliant, warm friendly and informative. Night Porter could not do enough for us. Waitress at breakfast excellent, immaculately dressed, warm friendly and very professional. Accommodation beautiful. Lichfield town center close by and worth a visit.

Review 67:We were allocated a room on the top floor, which caused me some difficulty due to mobility problems, especially carrying luggage. The room was very small although adequate for sleeping in. I would not like to spend more than two nights in it. The quilt cover on the bed was burst in several places-not what I would expect in a hotel as expensive as Netherstowe House. The absence of a shower mat was potentially dangerous, as the base was very slippery when wet. The claimed views over the gardens from our room were stretching the accuracy. There was an unpleasant aroma in the room when the door was opened-this was found to be a plug-in air freshener(?). The room was barely adequate but certainly not luxurious. The room was quite cold during the night, with no heating.

Review 68:The staff were extremely pleasant & professional at all times. The meals served both at my brother's golden wedding on 22/08 & at breakfast were first class with good range of choices. The grounds were lovely and peaceful, although we did not have sufficient time to fully appreciate them. Parking was not a problem, and was relatively secure. The public areas were clean and very comfortable.

Review 69:Amazing setting - you arrive at a small housing estate and pass through an entrance into a tranquil oasis surrounded by trees. You are met by someone who takes you to your room with the minimum of fuss and checking-in is at your leisure. Staff are all extremely polite and helpful - it is obvious they care about their guests and want their stay to be as relaxing as possible. Room was extremely comfortable with all the resources you would need for a short stay. Place is very quiet and that, combined with the very comfortable bed, made for a very good nights sleep. Stayed for dinner in the evening and both the food and service were excellent. Have absolutely nothing to complain about and would certainly recommend it strongly. Indeed as there were things that we did not get to do I am already thinking about staying there again in the not too distant future.

Review 70:We were advised an early check in was available. 45 minutes later we were allowed into our room. Almost late for the wedding, the reason why we stayed.

Review 71:Loved the apartment, comfortable stay!

Review 72:Felt a bit overpriced. A bit of a struggle to get a drink from the bar 'after hours'. There was no visible manager at any point, staff seemed a bit inexperienced. Generally felt the hotel/service wasn't quite living up to it's own hype.

Review 73:Lovely to be met at the car by a member of staff with an umbrella. Outside space for Apartment 4 was an unexpected treat. Quality of cooked breakfast good.

Review 74:Lousy, unreliable and slow internet. On several occasions during our 6-day stay, internet connection was just cut. Very annoying.

Review 75:Everything! Fabulous service, wonderful staff, wonderful food.

Review 76:I loved this Hotel with its attentive staff, good sized bedroom and quirky bistro dining room. I would liked to have stayed another night if time had allowed and look forward to another excuse to stay.

Review 77:The drive is in bad need of repair and when it rained the puddles were so big I could not get to my car

Review 78:The friendly atmosphere the quietness and old style service

Review 79:Very steep stairs. Decoration in St Chad like a bordello. Only one window opens in St Chad, so was like a sauna, had to move rooms. New room (Addington?) had tiny shower and no wardrobe, creaky bed. Breakfast (Eggs Benedict) was very small and not well presented.

Review 80:The price, which was reasonable.

Review 81:The only issue we had was the room was on the top floor, and the steps very steep. Also, the room was unbearably hot - the heating was on all night, so as a result I didn't actually sleep very well, despite being in a comfortable bed.

Review 82:The hotel was quintessentially English! I felt like I had stepped back in time. The hotel had a really lovely atmosphere. The staff very helpful, very professional. The breakfast was excellent and loved the music - rat pack playing quietly in the background. Room was very romantic. We would love to come back. It was only a mile from Lichfield so taxi into town only cost a few pounds.

Review 83:Impossible to find. Hidden away down a lane with the most silly, obscure, hotel sign I've ever seen.

Review 84:Very high quality staff. Lovely old house, an oasis in Litchfield's suburban sprawl. Ok restaurant.

Review 85:[Not so much what we didn't like, but, rather, the conundrum of how do you keep the room well ventilated without opening the windows and being woken by noise from the bypass...?]

Review 86:The very friendly, helpful staff The overall ambience The comfortable public rooms The period touches including the luggage and hat-boxes(!) A comfortable bed in a spacious room Very good value food & accommodation

Review 87:bedroom too warm at night. could not turn off heating

Review 88:This place is great..rooms are beautifully decorated and the food was lovely. Bargain at that price

Review 89:Nothing, all was of the highest standard

Review 90:Staff, service, comfort, meal

Review 91:Restaurant, meal was great particularly the cheese board.

Review 92:Leaving :(

Review 93:Everything about the place was superb - totally relaxed and looked after by every single member of staff we met. Top place, highly rated.

Review 94:Room was cold radiators not working .

Review 95:Staff helpful hotel cosy breakfast lovely not very happy with evening meal, not much variety.

Review 96:Difficult to find.

Review 97:Made a change from budget hotels the place had a lot of character and the staff were very helpful. The food was very good.

Review 98:Welcoming staff, the hotels location and its dacor. The food and service were splendid.

Review 99:Absolutely fabulous stay for our anniversary. Ate in the steakhouse which was glorious!

Review 100:Meal in Steak bar over rated

Review 101:Staff very helpful

Review 102:Staff lovely

Review 103:Friendly staff, superb facilities

Review 104:We really like everything

Review 105:The apartment, the food and the staff

Review 106:Nothing would stay again and try the main house this time

Review 107:Food was lovely, room nice in separate block

Review 108:Meals very expensive. Walk into the city (1 mile) is uninteresting.

Review 109:Brilliant service from the staff. Facilities very good and not exaggerated at all.

Review 110:Everything

Review 111:Breakfast outstanding

Review 112:The service was excellent with real attention to detail. The Brasserie food was perfect for us and breakfast was too!

Review 113:Stairs !

Review 114:Food excellent

Review 115:Nothing bad to say

Review 116:Unique Hotel with original features Spotlessly clean Staff friendly and helpful

Review 117:Range of food a bit pricey and too 'nice' for my working week on my own!

Review 118:Ethos of care e.g. Room service

Review 119:Accommodation over and above and beyond.

Review 120:Lovely building with lovely rooms and delicious breakfast. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 121:Excellent breakfast in very pretty room. Mini apartment very comfortable.

Review 122:Room was too warm.

Review 123:Beautiful room, friendly staff, delicious breakfast.

Review 124:Lovely decor, great room, extremely friendly staff

Review 125:Left waiting a little at dinner, felt invisible to staff at times (not all, but some) Gym was sparse

Review 126:Apartment was excellent Food was very good
