Reviews for The Great House Hotel
Review 1:There is a private dining room on the first floor in which a party kept me awake until past 11 pm
Review 2:The size of the room and the fact that I had both a bath and a shower
Review 3:Images on the website led us to believe that the garden was bigger and it was in a more rural location. Traffic noise from the main road was quite intrusive.
Review 4:Karen was smiley and very helpful - thank you. The Dovecote is a great room.
Review 5:At breakfast, there was only 1 member of staff serving. The breakfast room was full and she was deeply apologetic but it was not a good experience. I has to ask 3 times for coffee, my toast arrived after I had finished my breakfast and the wait to be served was in excess of half an hour. This was not the waitress's fault as she worked flat out - it was purely due to understaffing which should have been anticipated.
Review 6:It was clean and the staff were friendly
Review 7:Neither bedroom and bar toilets functioned properly. The a la Carte food was both poor quality and overpriced.
Review 8:Lovely old building with charm to match.
Review 9:I would raise the shower curtain a bit, but that's only because I'm 6 foot 4 !!
Review 10:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was superb, the rooms were clean and well stocked - all in all, very difficult to find fault !!
Review 11:The very friendly staff & management together with the ambiance of the building. We have of course stayed there before and would not hesitate to recommend the Great House to others.
Review 12:Bathrooms could do with an upgrade but this really didn't spoil our stay and I would definitely stay there again.
Review 13:Really pretty location, staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was great value for great quality.
Review 14:Ear plugs essential - Church Clock chiming on the quarter hour did not help for a restful night.
Review 15:Convenience; cleanliness; dining room - china cutlery and food; Car parking. Bedroom was good; bathroom was clean; shower somewhat 'a challenge' but hot...very hot! Good towels and bathroom essentials of high quality. Put simply a very nice hotel.
Review 16:I stayed in room number 7 which is directly over the kitchen. Obviously the kitchen is a very noisy place most of the time because of preparation and cleaning up. When the staff leave they should close the door properly rather than slam it shut taking into consideration that someone is sleeping in room 7.
Review 17:This place is very pretty, welcoming, staff are friendly and happy, the room was lovely and the food was amazing.
Review 18:Does not apply as I liked the hotel.
Review 19:Room was ideal for me ,clean and comfortable.I asked for a fan and one was immediately provided.I went down for dinner and was impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service.Breakfast was good and all good quality.Would definitely return next timeI am on business in South wales
Review 20:nothing
Review 21:I stayed here whilst working in Cardiff. This is a beautiful Elizabethan house. As I was leaving early for work they provided a breakfast tray the evening before.Excellent food and drink. Will visit again.
Review 22:What a beautiful place, in a beautiful setting. The staff were wonderful. All of them. Very friendly indeed, and perfect to set me up, in a good mood, before a day's work. This is now my 1st choice when visiting South Wales.
Review 23:We had a room in the Coach House. It was a short walk across the yard to the main hotel for meals. Might be a problem for those less able to walk, also the 3 steps up to our room.
Review 24:Beautifully restored 16C property. Very well thought out meals and attention to presentation - just a bit on the small side though. Comfortable accommodation. We felt we had gone to something quite special.
Review 25:Just a great experience all round, especially when on an endless trip of one-night stays…highly recommended in terms of comfort, aesthetics and history.
Review 26:The TV in the room was tiny. It was difficult to see as a mature person. The water in the shower was only Luke warm at 6pm. As a matter of taste we would prefer thinner, crispier bacon ! We would have preferred a room in the main house.
Review 27:The bed was comfortable. The sheets were good quality. The breakfast crockery was charming . We enjoyed the whole presentation of the breakfast. The staff were professional and friendly.
Review 28:Poor shower over bath. Bathroom generally needs updating but adequate and perfectly clean.
Review 29:Excellent restaurant, good service and comfortable rooms. Turndown service.
Review 30:There were some renovations going on so we had scaffolding outside of our windows during some of our stay.

Review 73:I thought the price of the drinks were steep
Review 74:The hotel The Food The staff
Review 75:a good family hotel with an excellent restaurant. A little remote but for day travels around in South Wales it is excellent.
Review 76:Absolutely beautiful house which has been lovingly restored. The food was excellent. 5 star accommodation.
Review 77:Noisy water pump, staff chatting loudly below open bedroom window, church clock chiming until 1 a.m.
Review 78:Hotel was spotlessly clean, breakfast was delicious.
Review 79:nothing - it was all great.
Review 80:Hidden gem - lovely place to stay - friendly staff - excellent restaurant and food. Made a real change from staying at one of the chains.
Review 81:Disappointed that bar was closed at 11.15 when message in room gave impression it was open until midnight - but a minor issue
Review 82:Very comfortable. Very grateful to be offered second room when twin room booked not available. Wales thrashed France!
Review 83:Room was very cold. Couldnt turn the heating on Radiator valves would not open. Noise from room above was so loud had trouble getting to sleep

Review 85:The friendliness of the owners, the excellent room with all facilities and we enjoyed an excellent dinner which all made our stay exceptional value for money. We look forward to staying there again.
Review 86:Vegetarian breakfast could have been more exciting and interesting butthis is the "norm" in most hotels - I pay the same for b &b but am usually left with a choice of beans on toast.
Review 87:Excellent friendly customer service by all the staff.Beautiful 15th century intimate hotel with beautiful gardens. Very relaxing and within easy distance of shops.
Review 88:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful room as hotel booked for a birthday treat. Facilities in room outstanding and everything available for a stress free stay. Loved it do much have booked to return
Review 89:Limited choice of win by the glass.
Review 90:Room was well sized even though booked as a single. Good location for business in Bridgend but on the outskirts so still relatively country. Good selection of meals on the evening menu Excellent breakfast Homemade biscuits and turn down service a nice surprise.
Review 91:Bed not the most comfortable. The 'double' bed was two singles shoved together
Review 92:Character, friendly staff, very clean, good breakfast, no hassle parking,
Review 93:My very elderly mother would have liked a hand rail for the steps going up to our room. I had to help her up and down each time we vacated our room. This is a feature that would make going in and out of the outside rooms safer for the young, elderly or more infirm guests.
Review 94:Good food and friendly staff. I had reserved a twin room but on arrival was shown to a double. When this was pointed out we were immediately changed to a twin room with no problem at all.
Review 95:Nothing we enjoyed our short stay
Review 96:Attention to detail -in the restaurant, rooms and interiors. Friendly & helpful staff. Together these made the stay enjoyable, despite it being for only 1 night. We liked the opportunity to choose from 2 menus for dinner.
Review 97:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 98:Extremely relaxed atmosphere and all the staff were extremely hospitable. It's the best our baby and us have slept whilst away from home! Would definitely stay there again if we were in the area!
Review 99:Immediate surrounding area quite urban .. grounds smaller than theyappear on the 'blurb' - and, very small point, no hooks inbathroom for robes/washbag.

Review 102:Went because the food was recommended but only risotto, risotto ballsand veg lasagne for veggies (boring) and the cheeses in them were notveggie either. Manager kindly put up with my moan and said he wouldraise it with staff.
Review 103:The staff were friendly and helpful, the main rooms and bedrooms weredelightful and there was a lot of attention to detail. More like a4/5 star hotel and nice atmosphere for lone female traveller
