Reviews for YHA Snowdon Ranger
Review 1:Beds were hard. Mine had a dip in the middle. Doors were noisy, couldn't go to the toilet without waking the whole house up.
Review 2:The location. You can't go wrong in Snowdonia.
Review 3:The windows in our room were screwed shut and the condensation was very bad. It was busy the weekend we stayed and the staff struggled to cater for everyone at breakfast.
Review 4:The location was the main reason we chose this hostel. There was also ample free parking. The self catering kitchen was well equipped.
Review 5:Inflexibility of staff - breakfast items being a particular bone of contention
Review 6:Proximity to snowdon ranger path, a walk up my snowdon. The evening meal
Review 7:Arriving and having to spend 1hr 20mins sorting out booking because booking.com and YHA had not got the same info about our group and we were 4 beds short on arrival.
Review 8:Staff sorting things for us on arrival as Booking.com got our reservation wrong
Review 9:Our family room on the first floor was chilly and damp. The beds were relatively comfortable at least. But truthfully, clean windows and stripping old damp wallpaper would have made the difference between a good YH and an awesome one. Struggled a little with wireless but got there in the end.
Review 10:We are a family of 4 with 2 boys. We booked the YH for its proximity to Snowdon, which didn't disappoint us. Also a stones throw away from a beautiful ice-cold lake which we swum, in wetsuits. We enjoyed using the clean, well stocked and organised kitchen. The lounge was inviting, friendly, and warm, with fellow YH's reading, researching, playing cards etc. We were lucky to have many families there at the same time, allowing the kids to make friends and entertain themselves. We definitely made good use of the drying room. Showers were clean and hot, great after a dip in the lake.
Review 11:There isn't anything that I would care to put in this box.
Review 12:Does what is says on the tin..relatively clean, practical and comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.the location was a bit remote but that's Wales. We bbqd by the lake and watched the sunset tween the mountains. Amazing.
Review 13:Not a great choice of alcohol and not allowed to bring your own in.
Review 14:Fab location. Nice and clean. Civilised. Great evening meal. Can't fault. It's very much a hostel and that is what you should expect when arriving. For the price we paid though I was bowled over.
Review 15:We had free parking for the day whilst walking. We caught the Sherpa bus to Rhyd Ddu to start our climb to the summit and returned down the Snowdon Ranger track back to the hostel.
Review 16:I didn't get a full night's sleep on any of the 3 nights I stayed due to the cramped, creaking bunks with hard mattresses... (understand it's a youth hostel so not expecting a lot but some investment in better beds would be great) Also neither of us could get the wifi to work, but on the up-side I enjoyed the peace of not being contacted for the weekend!
Review 17:The location is just amazing. Right at the base of Snowdon and the Ranger Path we took up to the summit was outstanding - we didn't encounter a single other person until we reached the top so it felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. Showers were nice and hot throughout the day. Top Tips: 1) If you are up early ask for a door code the night before so you can get back in to the property (it's locked with code access between 10-5pm) 2) If you are on a gluten free diet mention in advance and they will cater for you at breakfast :)
Review 18:The showers were hot the place was warm and comfortable. Staff very polite and helpful. Other guests very friendly and considerate. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend.
Review 19:We thought we were booking a twin room as shown in picture on website. Unfortunately when we arrived we found we were in a room with bunk beds. We felt that we were misleaded as we wouldn't have booked this type of room.
Review 20:Staff were really friendly & helpful.
Review 21:Other people criticizing a great hostel.
Review 22:Awesome location. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable facilities. Great escape from telephones, tv and such like. Good conversations, board games and pool table. Drying room was a Godsend!
Review 23:The Price - It was £94 for 2 adults and a child with breakfast. Paid £55 in a travel lodge the next night but without breakfast. The dining room table were quite sticky - someone had put this down on another review and it was correct.
Review 24:Like YH's generally thought this was in a good location. Meet friendly like minded people
Review 25:Our original room on the top floor was far too hot and very noisy, being right next to the ladies toilet. Doors were banging all night and the floor shook as people walked about. You could hear everything through the walls! Our change of room was cooler but smelt of dogs and there was no hand basin.
Review 26:The staff were very friendly and offered us a change of room after a very bad night's lack of sleep in a sauna of an attic room right next to the ladies toilet which were in constant use throughout the night. The second room was quieter and cooler. The self catering kitchen was well equipped and clean. The breakfast was very good and great value at £4.99. The evening meal was quite good.
Review 27:Sharing a room.
Review 28:Location - at the foot of Snowdon, and next to a station on the Welsh Highland Railway. Very friendly staff. Amazing value for money.
Review 29:rooms 3/4/5 very poor standards- my little one hated his rooms because there was spiders inside.windows needs cleaning/replacing covered with bird poo. rooms needs repaint. will not book this place again.
Review 30:excellent staff&service , location is good
Review 31:Extremely tiny rooms with stained carpet. The window looked out on aforecourt and so had patterned glass for privacy, which meant wecouldn't see out at all. And only the top small bit opened, whichmade the room stiflingly hot. The toilet area looked fairly clean, butreeked of urine. The whole place was run-down...mildewy caulk, rottingwood, warped doors, stained floors and walls. No tv in the lounge, whichwas disappointing for the children. All the surfaces in the dining roomwere very sticky. One of the employees explained that it was due to thecleaning products, but still really unpleasant.
Review 32:Right next to one of the paths up to the peak of mt. Snowdon, anddirectly across the road from a very beautiful lake with a beach.
Review 33:(Our fault) we felt that we were a bit remote in the annex - but it was OK(and we did arrive a bit later than we intended so had little time to enjoy the full YHA facilities.
Review 34:Reception was welcoming and local information (for walkers) very good too. Everything was clean and tidy and breakfast was good.
Review 35:The stag party outside the front of the hostel keeping us up until 3am, before they came inside for the night! Shouldn't there be a rule against keeping the other guests awake? The beds were not very clean and were uncomfortable; one of my party found 3 old socks under his mattress, the mattress and pillows were a bit smelly, and the beds were wobbly and uncomfortable - unlike the last time I stayed at this hostel when they were excellent :-) This combined with the hot sticky night and the stag party outside meant we hardly slept :-/
Review 36:V Friendly and helpful staff went the extra mile, stayed up late for us and were very informative about the local area and climbing Snowdon. Thank you! Breakfast was excellent :-)
Review 37:Wifi was not good at all.
Review 38:Friendly staff. Excellent self catering kitchen.

Review 54:Manager seemed less interested in providing a service than we were used to.
Review 55:Good location, nice hostel.
Review 56:The lake and location
Review 57:the photo we were sold (big room two separate beds) was different to the cupboard with a bunk we received. Not great.
Review 58:near to the ranger trail
Review 59:We could not finish the Red wine after cooking our Spag Bol.
Review 60:worst experience in life.

Review 63:location
Review 64:Dinner wasn't wonderful but not expensive.
Review 65:Room great Breakfast great Facilities great Good atmosphere
Review 66:Location Service Nice and quiet Good pub nearby
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Location is excellent as it is within walking distance from Snowdon Ranger railway station and bus stop. Beautiful lake can be reached within 3 mins by walking and hiking any time we like on a mountain just behind this hostel. In short, this place is perfect and value for money!
Review 69:Would of been nice to have a nice outside space to sit.
Review 70:The staff were excellent friendly and helpful couldn't do enough for us. Room was clean and facilities all close by.
Review 71:Only one plug socket in the room, with 4 people desperate to charge their camera batteries and phones at the same time.
Review 72:Cosy hostel with homely atmosphere. Facilities are basic but that's what YHA is all about. Ideal location for Snowdonia National Park. Excellent value for money.
Review 73:The room was far too hot during the night which unfortunately, despite the comfy beds and pillows, made for a bad nights sleep.
Review 74:Fantastic location as a base for climbing Snowdon. Accommodation was very comfortable and extremely clean & well equipped. Beds were comfortable too. Staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was great - good selection, beautifully cooked and good value.
Review 75:Room was supposed to be a twin, it was bunk beds, room was hot with no way of controlling the temperature and noisy. I have however stayed in worse and my son slept well.
Review 76:Location was fantastic which counted for a lot
Review 77:The private room was small and very dated, in desperate need of refurbishing. The bed was too small for me and I'm only 5ft 10.
Review 78:The kitchen was well resourced for self catering.
Review 79:Wi-Fi was a little expensive, pool cues need replacing (tips)
Review 80:Pay phone as there is no signal on most networks, clean shower rooms, good facilities, staff are very helpful.
Review 81:Totally it was a Rubbish accommodation. Don't include this in hotel category.
Review 82:It was advertised as 3 star but it is just an ordinary dormitory. Please do not cheat your customers with wrong information.
Review 83:The bedroom was not very comfortable for me and I didn't sleep well during the night. The food was bad, I didn't like it.
Review 84:The location was excellent!
Review 85:Noisy room right next to the ladies washroom. This meant we were disturbed throughout the night.
Review 86:Excelent location for walking in Snowdonia. The staff were great and let us use the faciities in the fridge when we arrived early in the morning, even though we weren't checking in until later that afternoon.
Review 87:Very expensive Wi-Fi, "bring your own towel" policy even forrooms, rather late check-in time with no one at the premises during theday, no possibility for leaving the luggage for safekeeping whileclimbing the Snowdon Mountain, lock of the shower room broken, breakfastnot good value for the money. I wouldn't stay here again if therewere any other accommodation choices at this location.
Review 88:The location near the Welsh Highland Railway Snowdon Ranger station andSnowdon Ranger path.
Review 89:On a late arrival I had to park down the road in a separate car park, bit of a walk if you have a lot of bags but not much of an issue and wouldn't stop me staying here again.
Review 90:Brilliant place in an absolutely stunning location. Big enough to have good facilities but small enough to feel friendly.
Review 91:the hostel was opposite a beautiful lake - a very short walk away. the full English breakfast was very tasty and worth paying extra for. shared bathroom and shower facilities were very clean room was plenty big enough
Review 92:My only comment is the person on reception when we booked in could have done with some help, he was checking us in and serving an evening meal at the same time. Not a complaint just an observation.
Review 93:Location was great. Good Breakfast. Excellent value for money.
Review 94:Lounge was very dark, no single chairs or tv. On our stay the entirehostel was taken over by a bus load of teenage polish schoolkids!Contrary to the site which states no groups over a certain size or willbe cancelled!!! So we had to eat all our meals in the dimly lit loungewith knee high tables.
Review 95:We found the beds to be far more comfortable than some "budget typelodges and Inns" the kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use.The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 96:Right next to the Snowdon Ranger path to climb up Snowdon, was a really friendly atmosphere. Pleanty of communal space to relax in, very helpful staff. Options to buy food but also options to self-cater. Very comfortable sleeping arrangements.
Review 97:4 bed/bunk room was very small for our party of 3 adults Shower-room & toilet were clean & basic
Review 98:Friendly staff, adequate but small 4 berth room, excellent breakfast & ideal location for walking the snowdon region.
Review 99:You have to pay for the parking (even though the hostel statesotherwise). They have space for only 6 to 8 cars (and canaccommodate much more people). The parking is £4 per day or £2 perevening (half-day).Facilities were not accessible due to overcrowding (good luck using the lounge). Expect to be put in the annex (not shown in the photos) which has MUCH lower quality then the main building. In general the kitchen, dining room, and parking are too small for the number of beds this hostel has.
Review 100:Location - a path that goes up to Snowdon starts near.
Review 101:The breakfast was not included, which we did not know until we wereeating it, then were forced to pay for it even though most food hadalready been eaten, leaving us with stale bread. The staff members werenot helpful plus very awkward in most situations. The beds were smalland hard. On the website it says the hostel is in llanberis but its not. It's hard to find. And you have to pay for Internet! YHAs are a ripoff completely and I hate staying in them
Review 102:It had parking right outside. That's about the only plus.
Review 103:Our room had a tiny roof window only.
Review 104:Location excellent for hiking getaway in the mountains. Breakfast and dinner available, good kitchen facilities for your own cooking.
Review 105:Rooms abit small Need more than one plug Could hear everything happening from our room (people using taps, toilet flushing, water going through pipes) was a bit noisy Other people running around up and down the stairs
Review 106:The staff was very polite and help full The location of the hotel was perfect for us
Review 107:Noise! slamming doors! Wouldn't cost much to fit soft closing devices to doors.
Review 108:convenient location for Snowdon walk. Basic but clean facilities.
Review 109:The post code shows the wrong position in google map. I suppose many people had been misled.
Review 110:Couldn't get food as it was booked out by a school trip though there were only 3 of us.
Review 111:Games room was handy. Nice place.
