Reviews for The George Hotel
Review 1:Parking was an issue but it was near Christmas and parties were being held at the hotel also noise very late at night early morning
Review 2:Staff were more than welcoming and the food very good
Review 3:xmas party music in the conference room a little loud and party people in the street below did disturb our sleep, but it was xmas!.
Review 4:location great for Lichfield centre. Breakfast great. Excellent stay, staff very helpful and cheerful.
Review 5:Room (27) a little dated and dark. Key passes did not work, continuous trips down to reception. Reception staff not overly friendly. Very noisy early hours through passageway from Market St to Bird St.
Review 6:.Breakfast brill. Restuarant staff lovely. Fab location.
Review 7:Water only drained slowly out of bath when having shower. The strip at bottom of shower screen came off and allowed water on the floor near toilet.
Review 8:Staff were helpful in indicating certain flexibility in the booking as opposed to online.
Review 9:We asked for a very squeeky bathroom door to be seen to twice but the request was ignored. It was a simple matter which could have been dealt with quickly. We also had the noise of the outside air conditioning and we do like the bedroom window open at night. However they did turn it off from 10.30 pm till 6.30 am. We are aware that this is not something that can be changed but the bathroom door could.
Review 10:Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good . The location was perfect.
Review 11:Very clean and comfortable room. Lovely tasting, good quality breakfast. Fantastic location for a day trip as we were able to walk to all the local sites, shops and restaurants. Free parking was a big bonus.
Review 12:Didn't like the sprouts in the evening meal! mentioned it to the staff!
Review 13:Olde worlde comfort, exactly what we felt like for our catching up chat. Very calm, helpful staff when we could not turn off the shower!
Review 14:Most hotels are noisy. The George was very quiet despite overlooking one of Lichfield's busiest thoroughfares. Lovely, comfortable room and homely atmosphere.
Review 15:We were kept awake till 2.30/3.00 am each night by the noise from outside coming from the Walkabout Bar. It rather spoilt our stay.
Review 16:The room was comfortable, clean and cosy. The dining room staff were lovely and the breakfast delicious.
Review 17:Car parking facilities were found to be a bit lacking but we managed.
Review 18:The hotel had a really good atmosphere and everywhere was clean and tidy. The location was ideal for what we all wanted. The breakfast was excellent. Couldn't have asked for anything more for the money we paid.
Review 19:Only minor fault I can pick is that the hotel bar closes too early at 11pm.
Review 20:Great facilities. Excellent, professional staff, very polite and helpful. The George is our first choice when we come to Lichfield. The breakfast in the morning is first class.
Review 21:There was a function in the room below my bedroom, whihc meant there was some noise. However, it finished at 11:30 so it wasn't a huge problem.
Review 22:The hotel was ideally located in the centre of Lichfield, the staff are friendly and the breakfast was good. The rooms are spacious and clean, bed was very comfortable.
Review 23:Unfortunately when I arrived they knew nothing of my booking. I was really worried ad I came all the way from Spain. This was a really busy weekend in Lichfield, thank goodness the receptionist got me in. But I had a confirmation etc this want a good start. Plus I missed breakfast as miss read book it said until 12, finished at 10! It did not say that. Anyway could have been worse. I think maybe book direct in future ?
Review 24:Staff helpfull
Review 25:Came away for quite time on our own and was still awake at 3.30am due to the noise from the Bar over the road our bredroom window was right oppersite the Walkabout Bar and people was singing and talikin in the street and on the balcony i even tried ear plugs but could still not sleep. also the bedroom window was half way down the wall which made the very small bedroom very closticfobic.
Review 26:Bar and restaurant area Easy access to town / shops
Review 27:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My husband and I had room 25 which was lovely and quiet and very spacious and clean. We had a very enjoyable stay and hopefully will be returning for a longer look around the area. The food in the restaurant was excellent although I would have liked a little more choice of fish on the menu but that is purely my choice.
Review 28:There is VERY limited parking. I went there at two different times in the day and nothing was available. I was told to park my car in the pay and display and to move it by 07:30.
Review 29:breakfast was ok
Review 30:The heating wasn't working and we had to have a fan heater delivered to the room The receptionist on our departure seemed very grumpy !
Review 31:Like the location close to the city centre with restaurants in easy walking distance Our cleaner was very pleasant and friendly
Review 32:bar staff not very friendly could be bothered to say if any one wanted a drink before they shut just stuck a board up saying bars close and pull the shutters down
Review 33:good bedroom size
Review 34:Food not up to standard for price. No advise on website regarding parking which could prove difficult. Lot of mistakes on bill.
Review 35:Staff helpfull & friendly.Locality.
Review 36:Bar prices were high. Upgraded to a superior room a few days before stay. However they forgot to provide any of the added extras, water, chocs, dressing gowns. Also no milk was provided for tea/coffee within the room. Toilet did not flush properly. Room was so hot it was unbearable to sleep.
Review 37:Location was very good being central to the town shops, restaurants and bars. However not easy place to get to by car and parking was limited. Good breakfast.
Review 38:The choice of food (especially bar meals) is very limited. Rooms too hot and without any means of regulating temperature. I am a regular visitor but wasn't welcomed as such - only two of the staff (young people) remembered and used my name.
Review 39:Interesting old building conveniently situated for railway station, cathedral, shops, market etc.
Review 40:Our bathroom had a constant smell of urine. After calling reception and the bathroom was re cleaned urine could still be smelt.
Review 41:Breakfast and downstairs very modern. Excellent location.
Review 42:Nothing!
Review 43:Lovely room, bathroom and breakfast. Excellent location for seeing the cathedral and shopping area also other visitor attractions in the area. On site parking a bonus. On site parking a bonus
Review 44:No problems at all. Everything was of a high standard. Never had any problems at a Best Western Hotel.
Review 45:Pleasant atmosphere and very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice of well cooked and continental breakfasts. Good parking at rear of hotel.
Review 46:Confirmation should include GPS location of hotel carpark. The front entrance is on a street with limited vehicle access. Alleyway beside hotel had noisy revellers late into the night
Review 47:Great location close to cathedral and restaurants
Review 48:The noise. We had room 19 at the front of the property - directly opposite walkabout - it was loud until 1am. Then, in the morning the window were so poor at sound insulation that the street cleaners, cleaning up the mess from Walkabout, woke me up at 7.30. I wouldn't stay here again. Stubbing my toes on the entrance to the bathroom sucked also.
Review 49:Location was in the centre of town
Review 50:No lift. We know that this is not your fault but it meant we had to keep on getting staff to carry things up 4 flights of stairs
Review 51:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff
Review 52:Could not fault this hotel, it was spotless very clean and with lots of nice touches. I really think it deserves to be a 4 star **** Breakfast was excellent and wonderful to see that some places still serve tea and toast at the table.
Review 53:Felt a bit like staying in an old peoples home, very small room with dated decor and a tiny, quite shabby bathroom. Throughout the hotel there was an overpowering smell of roast dinners from the carvery.
Review 54:Lovely old building in a great location in centre of city, helpful, friendly staff, excellent breakfast
Review 55:Though two of our three rooms were quiet, my son could hear loud music till 2 am. Breakfast options limited if you didn't want cooked food. Greater selection of fresh fruit, seeds, nuts would be good. Also decent coffee please!
Review 56:The George has character. Every room is differnt. We thought the bathrooms were particularly nice.
Review 57:only complaint would be the room looked out onto a bar which was noisy into the early hours of the morning. the outer windows being sash with an interior sliding window didn't block out the noise , but I have great sympathy as it is beyond the hotels control. it just didn't help, and I believe the club is fairly new and has recently been granted an opening extension into the early hours of the morning
Review 58:hotel was clean, rooms were of a generous size, staff were friendly. food was good in both the restaurant and also a substantial breakfast with plenty of choice was available. very comfortable surroundings
Review 59:Bar opposite had people sitting outside talking loudly past midnight. No local maps available at Reception.
Review 60:Great room, excellent breakfast, good parking, excellent location.
Review 61:waited 10mins.for warm water first thing in the morning. noisy youths woke us up in night effing and blinding while walking towards car park.
Review 62:excellent location staff very friendly food good will stay again.
Review 63:noise from other guests in corridor coming and going between 6:30 - 7:30 in the morning but this is no fault of the hotel.
Review 64:room was very comfortable and clean
Review 65:- Terrible bed - Noisy bin collections at 6:30am - Noisy cleaners in their 'cupboard office' starting work at 6am -Unwelcoming reception staff
Review 66:location is very central to restaurants and pubs with reasonable parking.
Review 67:When we arrived at the reception, my husband and I were joking about packing everything but the kitchen sink. He mentioned one item (nail scissors for hand nails) which I always forget to pack. Comment from reception was "how gross" To me that is very unprofessional, even if she thought it should NOT have said it. Also the scrambled egg at breakfast was the worst I had ever come across in a hotel. Staff first morning not very friendly, better on the second.
Review 68:Location was very good, Rooms were fine.
Review 69:A bit noisy at night due to being in the busy area. Take ear plugs - I did and slept well. Tea tray a bit mean - not enough for 2 people.
Review 70:Very central position. Right on the main drag. Nice staff, lounge and bar a nice place to sit and watch comings and goings.
Review 71:The hotel has not been refurbished in about 40 years. It has that lingering odour of 40 years worth of fried breakfasts and hint of stale tobacco from the old days. It feels a little dirty, a bit like when you visit your 90 year old nan's house and although she's keeping it superficially tidy, she just doesn't have the ability to clean properly anymore. The worst thing was the noise. The doors did not fit properly, with a large gap underneath and no noise insulation. I was kept awake by passers by in the corridor walking past and talking. In the end I had to shove a duvet by the door. There is also a few late bars in the area, so a drunks talking loudly prevented me from getting any sleep before about 1-2am. Not recommended. Lots of other good hotels in lichfield.
Review 72:The location is very central
Review 73:If you are a light sleeper, the first floor , front facing bedroom that we had is not for you. The Main Street was very busy especially at night.
Review 74:Great breakfast, lovely staff and only a short walk from the train station.
Review 75:The assistant manager was very rude. There was a function on the day that we arrived and carried on through the night, where children ran all through the hotel banging on doors, up and down the stairs and in corridors, keeping is awake. I wouldn't stay here again!
Review 76:Breakfast was good
Review 77:Car park to small, stayed for 2 nights had difficulty finding a space. Overpriced for a 3* hotel.
Review 78:Nice location, very clean rooms, efficient staff, nice breakfast.
Review 79:noise from the kitchen ventilation system in front of my window, noise from the housekeeping room in front of my door
Review 80:friendly, helpful staff, nice atmosphere
Review 81:It was a little crowded in the downstairs areas due to a wedding reception. Where could a hotel guest go to enjoy a refreshing drink without feeling that one was not invading a wedding party?
Review 82:The location was appropriate for my visit as I wanted a hotel near to the cathedral. The wi-fi worked really well in my room(45) and as the room is at the end of the corridor there was minimal noise from fellow guests.
Review 83:not a bad experience, but the room was v hot, the window only opens a little and the central location sometimes means you hear the people in the surrounding bars outside.
Review 84:always a friendly, local place to stay , with nice staff.
Review 85:I was given the farthest room from Reception up two flights of stairs and no lift. This was quite difficult especially with two heavy bags. I wonder if I was given a poorly located room because I went through Booking.com
Review 86:Generally comfy.
Review 87:We arrived at the hotel a few hours before we could check in, this was because we had traveled to lichfield by train for almost 4 hours from York as we were going to a festival nearby. we asked the staff if we could use facilities to change, clean ourselves up abit and leave our belongings in a secure place. we weren't allowed. Further to this, we arrived after the festival (around 1 AM in the morning) and our room was given to another couple by the night porter, so we had to wait another hour before we could get any rest.
Review 88:1. The Staff were great, especially 'Polly' 2. Excellent location- we went to the Bloodstock festival and the hotel was ideal location 3. Room was large, comfortable and very clean!
Review 89:Mechanical ventilation to the kitchens was a little noisy but importantly it did stop at 10ish and didn't come on again until 6ish so the hotel were doing what they could for guests.
Review 90:Location, on site car park, good breakfast and friendly staff
Review 91:Upstairs a bit of a maze - easy to get lost. More signage would be helpful
Review 92:Excellent buffet breakfast - good value. Free private car park. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 93:The bedroom, no 20, was very noisy at night so we had to shut the window. There was air conditioning which we used but that was noisy too.
Review 94:The hotel is delightful with good furnishings in all the public rooms. The staff were all very helpful. We greatly enjoyed our stay.
Review 95:Every thing was beautifully clean and the reception and breakfast staff so pleasant and friendly. What a great position to explore from, would certainly visit again.
Review 96:Our room was on the alleyway and the bins were below our window. There was quite a lot of noise from people using the alley and then the bins were emptied at some ungodly hour too.
Review 97:Central location. Room compact but comfortable. Staff were polite and friendly. Check in and check out were quick and easy.
Review 98:All good.
Review 99:We were lucky as room was very spacious. Other friends complained their room was cramped. Bed very comfortable. Bar was good and staff helpful. a little noise from bar opposite at night but not enough to worry about. Didn't eat there as was in the area for a party.
Review 100:The floorboards were VERY creaky, which made it impossible to walk across the floor quietly. Also, one of the bedside lights didn't seem to be working. Finally, finding the room itself wasn't easy, as the hotel was a bit of a maze and the corridors weren't well-signed.
Review 101:The room itself was spacious, and the bed and sofas were comfortable. Also, the chocolates were mightily tasty!
Review 102:everything was lovely ,nothing too much trouble, able to leave car there from 11a.m before booking in at 3pm. Just lovely, the tonic I needed just right now. x
Review 103:We thought the coffee provided at breakfast and dinner was awful. Apparently no filter coffee is available.
Review 104:Bar and restaurant have been refurbished since we were last there. Excellent decor and furnishings. Pity about the coffee!
Review 105:A quiet room had been asked for but I was given a room next to a disco which went on till midnight. There was then noise in the courtyard under my window which went on till 01.20. I then couldn't sleep until getting on for 03.00. The room was tiny, about 1.8m by 3m also next to the corridor locking fire door and next to stairs and a lift - unavoidably noisy. The price for the night's stay was to have been £99, a big price for such a tiny room.
Review 106:In the end, the hotel did not charge me and the receptionist was sympathetic to the fact that I had had such a bad night. I was also allowed a free breakfast and free parking.
Review 107:Some noise outside in the early hours but no more than expected given the location
Review 108:I liked being in the centre of town and the bar was welcoming We were able to walk to the theatre through traffic free zones. Our bedroom was well furnished , clean and comfortable
Review 109:Noise due to a hotel function. Felt as if we were at the function. Terrible. Poor response when I complained. I suggested it should be mentioned on website. Was told it was a city centre hotel so I should expect it. They should definitely invest in effective sound proofing. Day receptionist was lovely.
Review 110:Size of room. Central location.
Review 111:Room was rather dated and a little tired when spending over £100
Review 112:Great location in the centre of Lichfield. Staff really friendly and continued to serve residents after the bar had closed through reception. Breakfast was very good.
Review 113:The bacon at breakfast was hard - needs to be kept covered-up.
Review 114:The general ambience and beautiful décor, also the friendly, courteous and well-trained staff in reception and restaurant. I especially liked my bedroom No. 62 - everything there, nothing missing or wrong!
Review 115:Needs an overhaul, very dated, restaurant quite crowded, mattress uncomfortable
Review 116:Great location, quiet rooms, free parking, nice staff, Lichfield is lovely
Review 117:Quite noisy , screaming outside at 2am is not what I would exspect early Monday morning. The the Recycling Lorry began work at 6.45, Lovely place but unfortunately very noisy.
Review 118:Large Rooms , Excellent food,
Review 119:Bouncers on pub doors. Noisy revellers into the early hours. Room disappointingly small.
Review 120:Superb hotel in a seemingly quiet street until late at night. Excellent food in a cosy restaurant. Buffet breakfast included in a good value price. Free parking.
Review 121:Nightmare to find! On a 'No Entry' street, have to drive all round the houses to reach car park at rear. Directions would have been nice!
Review 122:Good standard, comfortable
Review 123:No bad experience but facilities are pretty basic and the decor needs some urgent attention - the medley of shades of red is too much
Review 124:Breakfast was good, car park was convenient. Staff were all helpful
Review 125:The mattress was hard and didn't aid a good nights sleep.
Review 126:The hotel is in a good position but could do with a styling update. The room was a good size with old fashioned decor and fixtures and fittings.
Review 127:Central location means expect some noise in the early hours when the pubs and clubs turn out.
Review 128:We had a family gathering for a 40th birthday and a photo session so we spent a lot of time in the bar/lounge area. Bar staff very efficient and friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast with good service and friendly staff. Check in/out very fast and efficient, Receptionist very welcoming.
Review 129:Expect to experience some noise in the early hours of Sunday morning as the pubs and clubs turn out. Unavoidable in the centre of a town which has lots pubs and restaurants.
Review 130:We had a family gathering for a 40th birthday and photo session, so we were in and out of the bar most of the day, very welcoming staff, lovely breakfast.
Review 131:This is a very historic building, just down the road from the Cathedral that was, at one time, a coaching inn. My room featured a separate sitting room and bedroom, both being well appointed and spacious. Service was spot on, the staff being very attentive. Parking behind the hotel is free but spaces are limited.
Review 132:Room and facilities were fantastic. Staff friendly. We were delighted that we had been upgraded to a superior suite when we arrived after a long drive ☺ Bed was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Thank you x
Review 133:No opening window in our bedroom which was not pointed out prior to booking in. Due to the room being very stuffy and hot this meant we had to use the noisy air conditioning unit to keep the temperature down which is not to all tastes and requirements..
Review 134:We thought the attention from the staff was excellent. We did like the room very much.
Review 135:The car park is not easy to find, especially if you rely on satnav to get you there (it can't).
Review 136:Lovely location, attentive staff, and excellent food. Just right for a short break away in comfort.
Review 137:One member of staff appered anxious to end her shift and a bit cross when we asked for more tea near the end of the breakfast time.
Review 138:Comfortable stay and fab breakfast!
Review 139:Car park facilities a bit restricted but staff were very helpful in this matter.
Review 140:Within walking distance of all amenities. We like the feel of the oldie English historic town and the buildings are very interesting.
Review 141:Noisy at night which being in the city centre is, to a certain extent, to be expected, but quests coming in, shouting and using bad language in the corridor at 1.30 a.m. isn't.
Review 142:The staff were generally helpful and pleasant, the breakfast was good and the room was very clean
