Reviews for L'Hôtel Ascott

Review 1:Beautiful period house with a sympathetic mix of modern furnishings and period features in a quiet location near local shops with a village atmosphere. Few more minutes walk to the sea front and restaurants. Lovely area would definitely chose again as very easy by car from hotel to Brittany ferry port.

Review 2:We travel extensively through France and are quite used to small rooms. This one, however, could have given more storage space. Perhaps, for the price, something a touch more commodious might have reflected the price a little better

Review 3:Looked after wonderfully by kind and courteous staff. Comfortable beds, everything spotlessly clean and a breakfast to blow your mind. Good location and, despite the odd 'con', would be more than happy to re-visit.

Review 4:Nothing at all

Review 5:Small Hotel nothing to much trouble for the owners to do. Privateparking which they do not charge for. Explained when we arrivedwhere we could go sight seeing and gave us a map with instructions.Hotel very charming the owners have worked very hard to achieve suchhigh standards, if we return to St Malo we will certainly use thishotel again.

Review 6:Driving through the gateway was a tight squeeze, but that's the charm of an older property.

Review 7:Friendly welcome, attentive staff - but not pushy. Good breakfast; comfortable, quiet room. Restaurants within walking distance near the Tour Solidor

Review 8:Bedroom (top floor Kentuky room) was very small and bathroom too.

Review 9:Breakfast was excellent and top quality produce. Spotlessly clean, large comfortable bed and quiet location. friendly helpful staff.

Review 10:Rien

Review 11:Excellent location in centre of city and with private secure parking opposite the hotel on a quiet street. Nice room, 165cm bed, leather floor was really lovely too. Shower quirky but worked well. Breakfast really good.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Small charming hotel, full of character. Really comfortable room and bed and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. We chose this hotel because of it's proximity to the port so we only stayed overnight before returning to the UK, it would have been nice to have a few days longer to explore the local area.

Review 14:Nothing.

Review 15:Great location, quiet suburban area, walking distance from sea side and some great restaurants. Owners were charming and gave great recommendations for day trips, excursions and restaurants. A great place to stay for any visit to Saint-Malo.

Review 16:Really small rooms. You can not even leave your suitcase open. Our room was very simple, old looking with no style touch (like you can see on photos). Bath need to be renovated as well. You can REALLY hear neighbors from everywhere. Bad isolation. So I was happy to have earplugs. Sad, since very high ratings on booking.

Review 17:Nice looking old building, reception is nicely decorated. Quite neighborhood.

Review 18:I didn't realise it didn't have a restaurant which meant we had to eat out. Not a major issue just a hassle. The room was described as a "SUITE". I felt this was overstating it. It was a modest room with a settee at one end. The size of the room was not great and I considered the bathroom very small.

Review 19:Very friendly staff and a great breakfast

Review 20:Bathroom was barely separate from bedroom and may be awkward.

Review 21:A beautiful place, nicely located, and a friendly staff. The breakfast is a real breakfast. Very calm.

Review 22:We liked it all but maybe the negative point for us was we had to lug suitcases and other luggage up a narrow staircase as there wasn't a lift. We had been travelling for two weeks and felt it was safer to take it to our room but having said that our car was parked immediately outside the house and our room in the front garden which was secured with big iron gates. It would probably have been safe in the cfar.

Review 23:Beautiful, imposing four storey house in quiet street, and very close to the channel ferry crossing. Good welcome although it took us a while to find the door to get in as the front door didn't appear to be open. Very comfortable beds and delicious breakfast of high quality food which was just a little bit different to croissants and coffee, all set out in a beautiful dining room.

Review 24:Great location - a 20 minute walk from St Malo's Intramuros and a five minute walk from the beach. Very friendly people running the hotel who had recommendations on gardens, beaches, restaurants etc. Room very clean with free bottle soy water and the/coffee making facilities. Room was on the smaller size but we were only staying for one night so not a problem. Breakfast was amazing and included yogurt, fruit, croissants, home-made jam and cake which we ate out on the garden. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 25:When we entered the Hotel they were playing Ella Fitzgerald and that was it I just knew I was going to like it. The staff were so nice and friendly and the room and everywhere was spotless.

Review 26:Rooms slightly on the small side but well appointed. Everything you could want there. Relaxed atmosphere.

Review 27:Lovely greeting. The Hotel is in a quiet area just on the edge of San Servan. Breakfast was excellent with homemade additions. Very gentle delightful couple run the hotel.

Review 28:Nothing !

Review 29:The whole package, the decor, the owners , Le petit dejeuner fantastique! And 10 mins to the ferry. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone

Review 30:I couldn't fault it at all.

Review 31:The hosts Fitzgerald and Camelia were extremely welcoming and friendly. The hotel was stylish, immaculate and very comfortable. The breakfast was amazing and delicious and included specially made crepes and just lovely food. I was sad to leave this beautiful place.

Review 32:Difficult parking in their drive as very tight entrance, but can park on road. Very few restaurants open nearby in April!

Review 33:Lovely decor in main rooms. Superb breakfast. Friendly, attentive owners.

Review 34:Unfortunately we were alone in the inn, as it was the week before Easter and not yet the season. No complaints, though. Got the whole place to ourselves.

Review 35:The two adjoining rooms, each with a bath, were ideal for our family of 4. Staff was very attentive, common areas warm and inviting.

Review 36:The buses stop running at 8pm - it seems that the French dine relatively early so it's a good idea to keep this in mind!

Review 37:Perfect for those looking for something a little more traditional as opposed to touristy! Located in a great neighbourhood surrounded by a handful of cute boutiques and restaurants and just a short hop from the beach! The bus (a 2 minute walk from the hotel) takes you straight to the heart of St Malo's Old Town. I'd recommend a 24 hour travel pass (€3.80) as this allows you to hop on and off as you please. The hotel grounds are exquisite with their grand Chateau-style exterior and gardens - the bedrooms are quaint, charming and quirky - we even got a free upgrade! Breakfast is served in a country style dining room (or in your room for no extra charge) and consisted of local bread and pastries, organic yogurt, fresh fruits, homemade jams and preserves and freshly baked pear tart! All in all - a great stay!

Review 38:Even though we were leaving at 0600 in the morning, the owners went to the boulangerie before 6 to ensure we had croissants, bread etc. Not many venus would go to such trouble at this early hour! The continental breakfast was excellent, fresh orange juice, home made pear tart, cheese, ham and of course fresh bread and croissants etc. etc. Bravo - your visitors receive the best!

Review 39:The hotel is stunning and for the summer time has a wonderful backyard. The bed was big and really comfy. But what made it feel exceptional was that personal touch, little welcome notes. The breakfast room and setting looked amazing, but it was a bit too expensive for us. Our host was exceptionally nice and caring, would not be surprised if he was the owner of this hotel. Definitely recommend!

Review 40:Room rather small. Difficult access to car park as gates rather narrow. Easier to back in.

Review 41:Lovely period house with pretty garden. Great breakfast. Very comfy beds. Dogs allowed. Friendly owners. Saint Servan is a lovely area close to the ferry with beach, shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Review 42:Nothing!

Review 43:Everything: quiet, tasteful, beautiful room, very clean and tidy, beautiful garden, very friendly and helpful management, breakfast to die for, handy location.

Review 44:Small and outdated rooms. Rooms need some repairs. Relative expensive. Distance to old city center.

Review 45:Location (quiet) and 20 min walk to harber. Friendly owners. Breakfast.

Review 46:Everything! The way the hotel looks- what a fabulous building; the staff were friendly, helpful and kind; the room was perfect for our family's needs, bed was comfortable, shower was hot, it was fresh and clean; our stay finished our holiday perfectly.

Review 47:We spent one night in this beautiful hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the owners are wonderful hosts. Breakfast was amazing, lots of fresh bread, croissants etc, freshly squeezed orange juice and a wonderful slice of homemade apple crumble cake. We will definitely be returning.

Review 48:The family room in the basement, though excpetionally nice, was unexpected.

Review 49:Terrific Breakfast and very cosy atmosphere! The owners are very friendly and make you fill at home. We spent two nights with our four years hold daugther Bianca and we enjoyed. Personally speaking, we loved the neighbourhood, residential and high hand with many interesting restaurants around, but it has to be specified that the Hotel is not in S.Malo' "intramuros".

Review 50:Beautiful white house, minutes from a rocky beach. Great interior design. Attentive hosts. High quality breakfast, with home-made and locally-sourced elements. Garden and salon that guests can use.

Review 51:Narrow gateway with projecting gate stop which made it impossible to get in with our sports cars. Fortunately there is adequate and free parking in the street outside.

Review 52:Traditionally furnished rooms with balconies. Comfortable bed and good shower. Traditional buffet style breakfast. Quiet relaxing garden. Very helpful and attentive staff.

Review 90:The stylish &comfortable decor. The friendly very helpful staff. The appetising continental breakfast.

Review 91:The open fire lit in the sitting room, made us feel very welcome on a cold wintry day.

Review 92:Excellent attention at all time, the rooms are clean and beds very comfortable. The ambient of the spaces within the house are nice and comfortable.

Review 93:Location to St Savaeur bay and good eating places. Ideal for Brittany Ferries, stay several times can be relied upon

Review 94:It should be specified that the family room, even if very comfortable, is in the basement.

Review 95:Superb hotel with a unique charm. Ella and Satchmo playing in the stylish lounge. Cheese and olives served with wine. Friendly helpful staff. A perfect stop in St Malo before or after the long ferry journey.

Review 96:Room a bit on the small side. Not much space for suitcase, etc.

Review 97:Location just outside main city was quiet and convenient. Breakfast was of good quality and pleasant. Balcony outside the room was nice. Friendly staff. Beautiful building, furnishings and garden.

Review 98:Watch out for metal gate stop in centre of sloping drive if like us you have a low slung BMW or similar sports car. We used a piece of rubber may to slide over it !

Review 99:Quiet. Location. Secure parking and lovely couple running the place.

Review 100:Very basic tea coffee facilities in room, not much space in room to move around in,breakfast too expensive for what you were given will not stay there again as overall price per night for room only was very over the top.

Review 101:Steep stairs that maybe a problem for some

Review 102:The couple in charge were wonderful and could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The house and the gardens it sits in are well maintained and the rooms are very comfortable.

Review 103:Standard rooms a little disappointing compared to the superior rooms, but offered an upgrade at a reasonable price so very happy.

Review 104:Searched the Hotel out for a second visit, and found the staff and owner very accommodating and offered useful local information. Breakfast is well worth staying for in such a lovely dining room overlooking the beautiful garden with classical music quietly playing in the background.

Review 105:The surrounding area could be beter to match the quality of the Hotel

Review 106:The hotel was very easy to book on line and the following telephone help from management was superb in helping us to adjust our dates that we incorrectly booked. The staff are friendly polite and kind thank you x.

Review 107:The hotel is very comfortable, spotlessly clean and only a few minutes drive from the port. The owners are helpful and friendly, and all the facilities mentioned on the website are easily available (e.g. the WiFi and tv channels ). We were lucky that the weather was good so we were able to spend time in the pretty garden, and as dog lovers we enjoyed playing with Bullet! Don't be put off by her size - she really is very friendly. It is true that the rooms are small, but personally I would prefer a well - maintained small room to one which is large and unkempt. The beds are also very comfortable.

Review 108:Our only complaint would be the sound proofing. Our room had two adjoining doors between other rooms and these offered no sound proofing at all. Also driving into the property through the gates, I caught the bottom of my car on the metal gates lug sticking out of the ground...beware sports car owners!

Review 109:The hotel was in a nice quiet street. The decore in the building gave a nice old world, romantic and good quality feel. The actual bedroom we stayed in had a lovely balcony overlooking the front of the building and gardens on the opposite side of the quiet road. The room was very clean, well decorated and had all necessary amenities. The onsuite facilities were very clean and well laid out. We saw very little of the proprietors but when we did they were friendly and helpful.

Review 110:If I were to nit pick I can only say that the bathroom opens right next to the bed and has a cupboard kind of door, but honestly it doesn't really matter as everything else was very very nice

Review 111:We really liked this hotel. The staff were nice and helpful, the room was pleasant, quiet and the hotel is in a nice area with lots of delicious bakeries We also had the hotel breakfast which was lovely. We would definitely recommend this hotel for St. Malo.

Review 112:Although small the bedroom was quite chic. Lovely breakfast room and thebreakfast itself was plentiful although not a buffet. We woulddefinately go back to this hotel.

Review 113:The hotel is not in the city center but can be reached by 10 minute walking so it is not a big problem. The staff was very helpful. The room was small but clean. The walls are not sound proof but since we were very tired we were not bothered. If you have a big car, entering to the parking area can be a bit problem, the entrance door is narrow.
