Reviews for The Cathedral Lodge

Review 1:It is in great need of refurbishing.e.g. New carpets, painting and regrouting of tiles in bathroom. Possibly new bed and mattress indicated in our bedroom.

Review 2:The staff were very helpful and cheerful.

Review 3:I asked for a quiet room, but the first room I was given was noisy as it was above the kitchen. I was then moved into a quieter room, but shower very difficult to turn on and phone didn't work. When I got home I realised that in moving rooms I had left my phone adaptor. I phoned up and hotel said they would send it to me. It never arrived.

Review 4:The staff were very helpful.

Review 5:The shower was blocked and quickly filled with water, then taking an age to drain away. The shower curtain was too long and was a bit of a hazard combined with the water not draining.

Review 6:The location and staff were good. The bed was comfortable enough

Review 7:Small condensation heavy bathroom felt rather unsafe for showering, bathing and was like a sauna by time of leaving. Breakfast was served but, egg apart, felt like it had just come off a self-service buffet facility

Review 8:Location central, helpfulness of staff

Review 9:Small room with cigarette smoke smell

Review 10:Comfortable, friendly staff, went out of their way to help us out. Just a few minutes walk to the town centre. Close to shops and restaurants. Definitely recommend if you're in town.

Review 11:Lichfield is quite small and compact. Easy to get around. Lots of restaurants and pubs. Everyone we spoke to was very helpful and friendly especially staff at hotel.

Review 12:We couldn't fault this hotel in the slightest. The staff, especially Eva were faultless. The breakfast was fantastic, and the price and comfort of the bed and the room were ideal. Couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Review 13:Cupboard door handles broken, window catch broken, electrics a mess with a hole punch in the wall. TV did not work. Shower fittings did not hold shower when running. Room was generally knackered and not particularly cheap.

Review 14:Lovely location, a stroll into town

Review 15:The young gentleman at the desk was very very nice, and conversation with him was much enjoyed. This being our first hotel stay it made the experience a lot less nerve racking.

Review 16:The bathroom was tired. There was a problem with the shower. When we opened the window smoke came in as people smoked in the car park under the bedroom window.

Review 17:Location

Review 18:They had a wedding on and the music was loud however the music stopped at Midnight. The room was extremely hot and there was no air-conditioning.

Review 19:Excellent location. Got parking facilities which is a massive bonus. Staff very friendly. Room extremely clean.

Review 20:There was a reception for some 70 people on the Saturday night and it seemed that our room was immediately above the post-dinner karaoke which went on until 12:15 a.m. so not too much sleep that night.

Review 21:Staff all very helpful. Location very convenient for the cathedral and the city centre.

Review 22:Tired looking hotel, lumpy bed, noisy at night, poor wifi reception with out of date instructions. Hot water not reliable and disappointing dinner and breakfast

Review 23:Friendly staff....excellent location with free parking but only few minutes walk from the centre of town.

Review 24:I twisted my ankle during my stay and have to say the staff went out of their way to help - all of them from domestic staff to reception to kitchen and waiting. All lovely and extremely happy to help. Was a real pleasure having hurt myself - heels! Very impressed and thank you to them.

Review 25:no heating in my room, when I let staff know they put the problem right straightaway. the furniture was old an chipped, reception could do with a makeover.

Review 26:lovely comfy bed, clean room, good breakfast, staff on the ball. hotel a short walk to the cathedral and shops, also parking available.

Review 27:we were warned on checking in a party was taking place that night and music noise would affect us till midnight. So tip ask if any functions are on before you book as it spoilt our stay

Review 28:very efficient staff and good food. Dinner set menu was excellant value.

Review 29:The carpets on the corridors could definitely have done with a good hoovering. It was the first thing I noticed when I entered the hotel., it did rather let the place down,

Review 30:The staff are fantastic here, they are very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. We had a few problems with our room but they sorted them immediately. The breakfasts are amazing here, you would not be disappointed.

Review 31:very stuffy until opening the window and being deafened by the traffic in Beacon Street bathroom door didn't fit bedroom curtain hanging off rail

Review 32:friendly staff (apart from the night porter) and good breakfast

Review 33:a bit later checkout would have been good.

Review 34:great staff ,not far from main town entertainment.nice breakfast after a good nightout.will use the hotel again next year

Review 35:En-suite generally OK but fan not working and sink plug release needed adjustment as it was very slow to drain.

Review 36:Convenient walking distance to town centre.

Review 37:Everything, staff were friendly and courteous. The room was lovely, we were upgraded when we arrived. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne.

Review 38:We asked for a room on ground or first floor when booking but got one on the third floor?! The dinner menu was the same on both nights and the service on the second night was very slow. The person on reception when we arrived was more interested in her phone call than us!

Review 39:One female member of staff was excellent. The room was spacious and all areas very clean.

Review 40:We opted for a premier double room when staying this time but felt a little let down by the size of the room. I expected it to be larger than it was. We were upgraded last time We stayed (for free) & booked a premier room this time because the one we stayed in previously was a very spacious room. It was lovely, just felt that we paid more on this occasion & got less :( I absolutely love this hotel (have stayed here on 3 occasions when visiting Lichfield) & will definetly stay again x

Review 41:As always the staff & customer service were excellent and can not be faulted. Food that we ordered via room service was absolutely amazing & the lady delivering it was very polite, despite carrying a very big tray up to our room & having to do 2 journeys because of drinks & deserts. Breakfast is awesome, can highly recommend the eggs benedict & omelettes. We stayed for two nights (over a busy weekend) and could not fault the staff, service & catering one bit!

Review 42:The road noise is very loud - closing the window made no difference. Double-glazing not working! Room furniture strange unless living there for a few weeks! Bathroom (and bath) way too small. Very hot in room - in september and with no heating on!

Review 43:It is in a good position from the centre of Lichfield - all attractions are within walking distance. The staff are excellent. Food is good and plentiful.

Review 44:No lift in a 3 floor building A little warm in the room A little noisy from the traffic and the passing public at night with the window open

Review 45:Staff very friendly Good breakfast Real cask ale in the bar Free parking Not too far from the City

Review 46:We did not like the fact that even 3 fans could not get our room temperature down and we had to operate our key a certain way to get our door to open. The dinner meal was very amateur and porridge lumpy through lack of attention. We were insulted by the noise of a disco under our room until midnight.

Review 47:The furniture in our room.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:The Cathedral Lodge is situated in a very handy area to get into the centre of Lichfield without having to pay a premium for the hotel. We received a very warm welcome, all the staff were lovely. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was excellent. We are hoping to come back to stay again in the future and would recommend this hotel.

Review 50:Rooms were very hot (as was the weather), even with the windows open. Quality of meat could have been better in cooked breakfast, but everything well prepared

Review 51:Friendliness, hospitality, politeness, cleanliness, choice for breakfast including rye bread and cold meats

Review 52:No negatives to report at all

Review 53:The warmth of the welcome The high level of helpfulness The proximity of the city so walking and exploring extremely easy as was getting to and fro rail station Sense of homeliness and comfort

Review 54:Our room on the top floor was very hot, the fan supplied didn'tmake any difference. Decor could do with updating, but all in all nota bad stay.

Review 55:Good breakfast at hotel Excellent on site parking, room keys were leftat reception when we went out good idea, always a night porter availableregardless of the time you returned to the hotel.

Review 56:Positioning of soap dispenser beside washbasin but none beside bath. Having to reach around shower screen to turn on cold water tap on bath. This was necessary because I nearly scalded my feet when standing in bath and turned hot tap on. There should be a caution advising that the water is so hot. The room was very hot despite having the window open, possibly because the bathroom radiator was turned on and I could see no way of turning it off. The decor and painting on wall - enough said about that. Might I suggest a new stair carpet - it would make for a better opinion on entering the hotel as a boarder.

Review 57:Despite my comments about what I didn't like my stay was very pleasant as they were mostly minor things but I would say that a warning about the very hot water is essential if it is always that hot. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The room was nicely cleaned each day with tea/coffee etc being replenished. Breakfast was very nice. Dinner in the hotel was very nice too and which my local friends also enjoyed very much and who will now frequent the hotel again as they live just around the corner.

Review 58:there was nothing we did`nt like.

Review 59:the staff were very polite an friendly, the room was very spacious, the breakfast was excellent, have recommeded it to my family an friends will certainly go there again well done

Review 60:The room was a bit of a heat trap, the other guests were inconsiderately noisy when they came in late, the staff (I think) decided to move somethings very noisily into the car park at 12.45am and the wifi signal was weak.

Review 61:Good breakfast and the staff I spoke to were friendly and helpful

Review 62:Rooms were very hot Quite noisy next to the road Floor boards / walls very thin, could hear guests above talking /walking / watching TV - was quite disturbing!

Review 63:Very friendly staff Nice rooms

Review 64:Had to ask for room to be vacuumed as floor was dirty. Rooms really do need air con as in hot weather they can be VERY muggy and stuffy. If you have a room facing road and keep the window open, things can be VERY noisy. A lift would be useful. Breakfast menu is comprehensive, but if you only select one or two items (eg: bacon and eggs) you just get a bare minumum. They could at least add an extra egg or a couple of extra rashers.

Review 65:Very friendly staff and comfortably close to city centre and the Cathedral (which is literally just down the road). Breakfast menu is comprehensive (but see caveat in other comment). Beds are soft but very comfy.

Review 66:I booked a premium double room for one night which cost the better part of £90 however the room looked very dated despite the pictures on the website. The wardrobe and draws looked like something from a 70's TV show. The room layout was very poor, very little room between the bed and wardrobe, my partner nearly fell over twice trying to walk around the bed. The shower was good but bath nearly half filled everytime the shower was on. The room was also incredibly warm and when I approached the staff about getting a fan they were adament there would already be one in the room despite me already explaining I had searched the entire room and there was not one in there. Its very rare that I write up a bad review for a hotel but this the cathedral lodge was a huge disappointment and very poor value for money.

Review 67:The breakfast was great and included in the hotel price which was nice.

Review 68:We ate there out of convenience on our one night stay. There was nobody in the restaurant and only one single man in the bar. Both the radio and the television were on, and full volume. We had to ask to have one turned off, and all they could do was turn the tele down as it had to be left on whilst the world cup was on!! My starter was a Greek salad. A bag of salad tipped on a plate with a few olives and four squares of Feta cheese. Tuna steak in sauce with cuscus was strange. Cuscus was rock hard, steak was overcooked and more from the bag of salad. My husband had a burger which he loved and the chips were good, so that helped.

Review 69:It was a very good location for anybody visiting Lichfield. We got our first drink free in the bar.

Review 70:Plug pat test out of date. Shower terrible, gadget came off wall with shampoo in, was black! Hair dryer didn't work. Cups dirty at breakfast. Milk off!!!

Review 71:Staff friendly

Review 72:Shortage of staff during our stay which had an impact on good service i.e. waiting at the bar & the 24 hour room service was unavailable?!!

Review 73:Convenient location to Cathedral and town centre.

Review 74:Kindness and helpfulness of staff-who were particularly aware that I am an elderly lady with some mobility problems. Everything was fine, so thank you to all.

Review 75:Heated towel rack, right next to the toilet

Review 76:Friendly staff

Review 77:It was too warm in the room, but that was the fault of the weather and not the hotel - and it was December?

Review 78:Well located and friendly, helpful staff.

Review 79:The welcome and excellent smiles at every point of contact.

Review 80:TV went wrong but receptionist mended it for us

Review 81:comfortable room

Review 82:Narrow staircase to 1st floor and no lift.

Review 83:Great location, helpful staff

Review 84:There's no need to dislike anything.

Review 85:Good location on edge of town,5min walk We will stay again

Review 86:Good value for money. Friendly and efficient staff and a great breakfast. Exactly what was needed for an overnight stop

Review 87:Bedroom was a bit too hot and the window would only open a little bit. I do like fresh air in the bedrooms.

Review 88:Room, staff and a very homely atmosphere.

Review 89:everything was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again. Thank you

Review 90:Bathroom cramped, room 209. Narrow passageway and stairs when carrying luggage.

Review 91:Cr parking and availability.

Review 93:Nice clean tidy room

Review 94:The central situation of the place. the pleasant smiling staff.

Review 95:the attitude of staff was excellent.

Review 97:Its location was good with ease to visit the historic sites of lichfield

Review 98:Friendliness / help of staff

Review 99:Perfect location and value for money. Breakfast was great

Review 100:Not a good image to see staff smoking outside entrance to hotel

Review 101:Smiling Staff, very helpful.

Review 102:Well- run hotel with the friendliest staff I have encountered in a long time- and I travel very frequently

Review 103:The kindness & friendliness of the staff nothing was too much trouble

Review 104:Becoming a little dated.

Review 105:Nice and friendly staff. Quick and efficient for bookin and check out

Review 108:Decore and bathroom did not withstand close scrutiny

Review 109:Excellent staff on arrival and departure-couldnt fault their help and assistance

Review 110:Staff were friendly.

Review 111:Shower a bit tricky to get the right temperature. Room smelt a bit of cigarettes

Review 112:Staff

Review 113:Staff welcoming and genuine. Quality room, nice bathroom!

Review 114:The bar is very small and the restaurant area is no very big.

Review 115:Mainly the reason being a walking distance from all amenities.

Review 116:Not much not to like.

Review 117:Staff friendly and anxious to get things right. Hotel clean, food well cooked and plenty of it.

Review 118:Friendly efficient staff who went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. A short walk from cathedral

Review 119:Nothing worth criticism

Review 120:Value for money and availability of smoking rooms

Review 121:Poor lighting in room (303) - wardrobe was very dark. Bed sagged in the middle making it uncomfortable.

Review 122:Friendliness of staff.

Review 123:With the name Cathedral Lodge I expected the hotel to be closer to the Cathedral

Review 124:Lovely hotel with friendly staff and good range off in the restaurant

Review 125:Enjoyed the whole experience especcially the staff who were all great
