Reviews for Ashfield Hotel
Review 1:It wasn't a bad experience but the whole place needs a little updating. The owner was explaining this to us and that they are in the process of doing this!
Review 2:It was small and friendly and the owner was working in the hotel and on the front desk when we arrived. We were late because of traffic but he stayed and greeted us personally. He told us a little bit of the history of the hotel too.
Review 3:Room was very disappointing, I'll make sure I book at a travellodge early next time, it was the most awful room I have stayed in.
Review 4:Best thing was location, close enough to city centre.
Review 5:NEED TO TAKE THE THIGS ONE BY ONE AND REPARE IN THE ROOM.GENERAL THE HOTEL IS OK FOR SHORT STAY AND BE ALL THE TIME OUT.
Review 6:I LIKED THE POSITION AND THE STAFF.
Review 7:This "hotel" was unclean with a room that was falling apart at the seams. Dodgy, hard beds with walls so thin you can hear everything that goes on from people coughing next door to talking outside the room. Towels were not provided and it was lucky that I had brought my own. The parking was awful, it is behind the hotel and is very small. Over the last few weeks, i stayed in 4 different hotels and b&bs in Huddersfield and this place was, by far, the worst one. I wouldn't stay here again and would persuade you not too.
Review 8:The staff were friendly... in a way.
Review 9:Just seemed expensive. I think they all were expensive shopping around so don't think that can be just pinned on this hotel.
Review 10:How big the bed was, very comfy too. The midday kicking out of the room!
Review 11:The rooms were quite dated and the house needed quite a few repairs (wonky radiator on top floor, taps that were loose, clocks that didn't work and the garden was very messy). The pictures online flattered what we actually got.
Review 12:Location to our party venue was excellent. We only saw one member of staff who was polite and friendly.
Review 13:Wifi wasn't working Bathroom could do with a make over and the tea and coffee were abit cheap and nasty.
Review 14:Location was great, only 10 mins from the town centre. Friendly staff and the room was nice.
Review 15:Fan in room didn't work. Shaver light didn't work & loosely fitted. Requested cot was not ready. Old property - Decor poor & in general need of a facelift. No mirror near power point to use when drying hair. Kettle was in opposite corner of room to the mugs & tea & coffee! Wardrobe really ropey - back falling off! Left request on door to 'make up room' but wasn't done - towels not changed, beds not made, tea coffee & mugs not changed, bin not emptied.
Review 16:Large room. Comfy beds. Big TV. Nice shower.
Review 17:Dated; wallpaper peeling off walls; showerhead broken; burns in carpet; bodged repair works; noisy occupants (not hotel's fault but it does attract students). I would not come again.
Review 18:Comfortable bed. Nice touch having a microwave and fridge.
Review 19:the awful shower room in need of complete refit, the dirty carpet, electrics consisting of four plug adapter screwed to wall....
Review 20:Really friendly and kind staff
Review 21:However,the heating seems don't work.because of the fine weather,we don't need it at all.
Review 22:Staffs there are friendly and enthusiastic ,the room looks clean. I have a good time there
Review 23:Very dusty room. Beds very uncomfortable. Lots of hairs on sheets. Breakfast room:- the dust under the tables could fill the uncomfortable pillows in the bedroom!! No wi-fi until we were leaving.
Review 24:Breakfast was ok. Fridge in room a bonus,
Review 25:My shower leaked to my friends room below and soaked their carpet and bed. When arrived my en-suite was unflushed with paper and had been used. A hotel should have a lunch/dinner service as it didn't it was more of a guesthouse. Also the sign of the entrance was very covered making finding the property quite hard.
Review 26:Loved the proximity of the property to the town, helpfulness of staff and relaxed atmosphere
Review 27:Noisy Ventilation system and fridge made it difficult to fall asleep. Not the cleanest of places either (a thin layer of dust on both bedside cabinet and little table, that my wife cleaned the day after our arrival). Probably only worth half the price you'll be paying!!
Review 28:Did not stay long enough.
Review 29:Great location, friendly staff, nice room with a comfy bed, the room had its own fridge, microwave, kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. Nice little en suite, with complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was amazing. Will definately be staying again.
Review 30:My daughter stayed in the single room, which we felt could do with some updating especially the shower, but she slept fine
Review 31:Lovely building, friendly staff, big comfy bed, nice bath slept really well in the luxury double room, will definetly come back ☺
Review 32:The room was very dark and depressing, had a very outdated decor and didn't feel clean, the bathroom was scary to use, wifi didn't work at all, skin was irritated after coming to contact with the bed sheets
Review 33:It was the only available room at a fair price and fairly close to town centre
Review 34:Bed not made, cups & glasses never washed & tiny bathroom not touched throughout our week's stay.Manager never available to discuss our concerns.
Review 35:Good location.
Review 36:I was in a room at the top of the hotel and had my grandaughter with me. When I checked the fire exit, it was blocked with a bed and other items, it was not passable and it made me feel unsafe. Unfortunately there was nobody in the office at the time so I didn't tell anyone.
Review 37:The room was well equipped It was clean enough It was quiet The bed was comfortable It was good value for money The receptionist was polite, professional and friendly Booking in was easy and checking out even easier!
Review 38:Very poor state. Botched up decor/carpets mismatched - and don't fit. Empty lightbulb sockets on bedside lighting. Emptying the jacuzzi bath and the shower basin filled with water! TV was not working had to be tuned in. Breakfast was average to say the least. Poor service. No bacon with a full breakfast! Washing pile on full display in the kitchen area - in full view of breakfast guests. Will never visit again!
Review 39:Free wifi
Review 40:Would prefer a simpler style of room/hotel. With a few changes (for example fewer pictures, dried flowers, ornaments) it would feel more spacious and more up to date. Would change the breakfast table cover - for one cloth only either washable or a wipe clean or if suitable leave the table top in all its glory! Minor maintenance and decorating needed.
Review 41:Handy for station and walking into the town centre. Parking at rear of hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable spacious bed. Staff on call if not in reception. Facilities in room for some self catering if required.
Review 42:We checked in and were welcomed by a very strong smell. I then went to my room and was in darkness as the light was broken, the wallpaper was hanging off the wall and the shower was moldy. I stayed for 4 nights as I prepaid and the room didn't get cleaned over the whole visit.
Review 43:Leaving
Review 44:Little things In hotel felt like they could do with finishing off to make the place look a bit better and noone to say thanks to on leaving just drop keys in box! Xx
Review 45:The beds need sorting otherwise excellent hotel. Value for money.
Review 46:From check in to check out, everything was perfect. Really pleased I booked this hotel although the rooms were not that big but we all had a nice time. Tea coffee making facilities was a plus too & the breakfast was amazing. Yum
Review 47:I booked a month before I traveled but on arrival I was told that the room was not available and I was being given another room. It was in the basement and was unfinished with exposed wiring and a damaged microwave
Review 48:Location to central Huddersfield was good
Review 49:Shabby, not that clean, noisy at break of dawn inside hotel, had to ask for teaspoons and towels as not in the room. Carrier bag over smoke alarm!
Review 50:Big room, good value breakfast, parking available, not far from town centre.
Review 51:When I arrived I was ignored for 15 minutes even though I rang the bell 3 times. The room needs updating: carpet was old, divan bed was old (although granted very comfortable - maybe add a mattress topper), the shower needs regrouting and a new shower head.
Review 52:The bed was comfortable and everything seemed clean. Nice Towels and they gave me a bigger room than I had originally booked so good customer service. Useful to have a fridge and microwave if you need it. Free wifi worked very well and the neighbourhood is lovely.
Review 53:The room was dark & dirty. The top, bed covers smelt strongly of body odour and the fridge was noisy/smelly. There was a black, bin-bag stretched across the roofing behind the headboard: that blew when the window was open. The wall clock wasn't working and the bathroom was shabby, with a sink that was too small to use (it also wouldn't hold water). The room smelt & the carpet was greasy underfoot: as well as curling at the edges. There was a used, teabag on the outside window ledge. One of the staff tried to place the responsibility on me when I wasn't offered tomatoes at breakfast: and was argumentative about it. I told them about most of my concerns on checkout (they told me the room was earmarked for refurbishment - though it shouldn't have been made available in this state). I complained to booking.com with photographic evidence. The hotel were emailed and refused any financial reparation.
Review 54:Sheets not changed, bathroom walls very dirty, roof fan extreamly dusty, carpet dirty and finally used condom on top of wardrobe.
Review 55:High speed free WIFI and free off street parking.
Review 56:The room was a million different colours and patterns but it's a family business so was there taste I gurss.
Review 57:The bed had lots of cushions and the bathtub was amazing
Review 58:Dark wallpaper gave the room a very dark space. We realised that they were upgrading the rooms as they could afford it. Lovely new shower and the rest of the bathroom was adequate. We guess that carpets are next on the list. When we stay again I am sure there will more improvements and we wish them good luck for the future.
Review 59:Facilities were more than adequate. The staff were very pleasent and helpful.
Review 60:Shower didn't get hot
Review 61:Big rooms with comfy beds, powerful shower (although it didn't get hot), lovely breakfast with lots of choice cooked to order. Great value for money.
Review 62:The shower was terrible, just a dribble at the most. The room it's self was dark and tasteless. There were holes in the walls and the room had a run down feel. A black bag covered an area in the wall where a hole was. No toilet roll.
Review 63:I liked the comfy bed and that's anout it I'm afraid.
Review 64:Room was a little grotty and bed was very uncomfotable but the worst thing was the drains in the shower and sink. They stunk!!! You couldnt open a window either because we were on the ground floor and we were right next to the back door where staff and residents kept slamming the door in and out so that wasnt great. Also could not turn heating off so the smell of stinky drain in a warm room is not nice at all.
Review 65:Location is excellent..only 10/15min walk into Huddersfield centre. Great rate for £45 a night. We were put in the disabled room on the ground floor which was a little weird but at least it was spacious.
Review 66:Nothing at all
Review 67:We arrived well after check in but we still got a warm welcome and each day we were asked if all was ok. Very pleasant stay and would recommend it to anyone
Review 68:The room we had didnt look as good as the ones we saw on the pictures when we booked our stay & the shower is not really good. Other than that it was fine.
Review 69:Had a lot of space for storage for a long stay. The breakfast was really nice & the staff were really friendly.
Review 70:Great place to stay for business traveler, warm and cozy room, excellent value for money, nice, polite and helpful staff. Hotel is close to city centre and beautiful park.
Review 71:Heating was not on WHB too small separate WC and shower cubical Room bedding clean but worn out
Review 72:Friendley receotionist who was cook and manager Location was good Breakfast was good and reasonable cost
Review 73:Strange Sausage & Fried onion breakfast. No bacon on a full english? It all tasted nice but would have been better to inform me that the full english does not include bacon.
Review 74:Comfy bed, high ceilings lovely building.
Review 75:WC needed attention - couldn't stop water running which disturbed sleep. Bed had springs that made loud noises when you turned over.
Review 76:Excellent free fast network access Nothing was too much trouble for the owners.
Review 77:room a little too hot even in October. The radiator could have done with a thermostat so that we could adjust the temperature , but fan provided cooled us down
Review 78:Good value for money, good location, for a budget stay it was excellent
Review 79:bad service in terms of staff, poor surrounding, not clean, no proper management, no form of assistance or care if you have a complain, no point of booking ahead, no value for money
Review 80:room was okay, it had a balcony amd link to d backyard. food was okay
Review 81:I only spent a night there
Review 82:Staff are very flexible and cater to every need Bed and linen smelt fresh Sufficient walking around room space Parking was easy as hotel had its own car park Amazingly cheap and booked at last minute.
Review 83:The carpet in the room we occupied was not quite fitted correctly. The bathroom door needs a little attention as it would not stay closed without locking it.
Review 84:This hotel was great value for money. The beds were very comfortable and access to a fridge and microwave in the room was useful. The room was clean and inviting. Breakfast was beautifully prepared.
Review 85:From the train station, it's 15 min walk, but upslope. Might get tiring at the end of a long day. But I suppose almost all hotels at Huddersfield are like that, since it's such a hilly town.
Review 86:Room was very well equipped. For a single room, the bed was huge and comfortable. The free Wifi was fast inside the room. Lots of cabinets and cupboards to put stuff. Service was friendly!
Review 87:Our attic room (112) was the same price as other standard rooms and whereas ours felt like a student bedsit the others were quite lavish, large and included baths all for the same cost - however due to a large group coming into the hotel at 4am and proceeding to shout, slam doors, chat etc...until 8am none of our family (we had 4 rooms booked) had a good stay no matter what the room was like. Although we complained in the morning we were just told that they would not let that group stay again!
Review 88:Hotel seemed very clean Breakfast was good
Review 89:Rooms were unclean with cobwebs in one of the room. Decoration was 1960 style and window frames rotting away and room smelt. No hot drinks from room service and shower cubical too small. We were let down by the Advertisement on the internet when booking, place was never like how it was described on the net. will not be going there again or be able to recommend to others.
Review 90:Local to city centre
Review 91:perhaps a little tricky parking in the carpark if you have a big car
Review 92:family run b&b , the staff were very accomodating, we were in huddersfield for a wedding and they had our rooms ready early so we could check in before heading into town for the wedding. We were very comfortable and breakfast was delicious
Review 93:Decor was poor. Not particularly clean and lots of evidence of bodged repairs. Impossible to wash face in sink because of shelf placed above it in a bathroom that was 3 feet wide. Had the feel of student digs in the 70's. I guess you get what you pay for!
Review 94:Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast good for price. Cheap.
Review 95:Smelled damp toilet dirty not clean
Review 96:I have stayed here on previous occasions and have always found the staff welcoming and friendly.
