Reviews for Cottage In The Wood

Review 1:Had last room available on the night we arrived we were not told of a party booking. The party just happened to be right under our room at 1-00 am had to go to reception to complain about noise they moved party into bar and all was quiet until 3-15am when party finished and revelers decided to shout good night. Next day we were moved to the annex as there were more parties the next night all was quiet.

Review 2:Very friendly staff who were always attentive and ready to answer any queries. Food very good well cooked and presented small menu but good

Review 3:Location; accomodation; views; friendliness of staff; lovely food; attention to detail ( eg. pair of binoculars for surveying views over 30 miles from the bedroom window ); 20 minute walk up through the woods onto Malverns

Review 4:I booked for us and another couple. Our room was O.K. but our friends room was very poor. It had a step in the middle of the room which my friend fell down during the night, towel heater did not work and their power shorted during the night. Decore was tired.Neither if us will stay there again.Eat out as evening menu was limited and expensive.

Review 5:Location although drive very steep in places. Pleanty of parking.

Review 6:The decor and furnishings are starting to look tired. The wine list is far too long and often missing some of the more popular reasonably priced wines.

Review 7:The views are fantastic if you have a front facing room. The food is great. The staff are very efficient.

Review 8:My visit was too short!

Review 9:Excellent hotel, food some of the best I have ever eaten, I used to travel extensively on business before retirement. Location and views superb. I will return

Review 10:Felt the food was fair to middling.

Review 11:The situation of the hotel. Our room looked out over the vista below but our friend's faced a cliff face. The lounge was very comfortable.

Review 12:No major issues, bathroom a little tired and in need of some TLC. Attention to detail with dusting around the nooks and crannies, headboard, under TV for example.

Review 13:Very warmly welcomed and that was maintained throughout our short stay, the staff could not have been more helpful. Views were stunning.

Review 14:pleasant location, we visited the 3 counties showground, so was great for this. Food was lovely, but a bit 'Michelin' for me. Great walks directly from the hotel

Review 15:Expensive meals in the restaurant. However quality was very good. Expensive wine list - even the house wine had a huge mark up Decor in our room was a little tired & too many patterns!!

Review 16:The view from our room (14) was stunning. You can walk up the hill behind the hotel & be at the top of Jubilee Hill in about half an hour. Excellent breakfast - plenty of choice Comfortable warm room Staff extremely helpful & friendly

Review 17:Room 12 was like an oven, no view, smell and noise from the kitchen below.

Review 18:Great views from the terrace and ideal location for visiting the local area and further afield. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 19:I have got so used to the luxury of the good old Duvet that it came as a surprise to fight my way into old fashioned tightly made up blankets/ hospital corner bed linen. It wasn't comfortable I'm afraid. My husband was prevented from entering our bedroom by two dogs barking at him in the corridor at one point and although the decor was well kept it was tired and outdated. I would most certainly stay here again but our room (without a view) was an £80 per night room not the £110 that we paid.

Review 20:The staff attitude and service was impeccable, without exception they were all polite and friendly. The food for our evening meal was excellent. Everything was clean and the view was second to none, really beautiful. Easy accessibility to the center of Great Malvern was also a bonus.

Review 21:Whilst the buffet breakfast was fine, the cooked breakfast was poor - it was poorly cooked, the sausages were dry and tasteless and the plates were so hot they dried out the eggs. The price for the room was also rather high.

Review 22:The location is superb. We stayed because we were going to the nearby theatre, but actually it would have been a superb base for a walk. The views are incredible and we were lucky to have some wonderful weather.

Review 23:The room we slept in was so hot . We had to have the air con on all night and the windows open . It was unbearable , sleeping was impossible .

Review 24:Choice of breakfast . Although portion size small.

Review 25:nothing, devoid of any atmosphere, totally dated and shabby and vastly overpiced they need to take a look at the Lygon Arms in Broadway

Review 26:the view and the bed

Review 27:We had a view of the rocks behind the hotel from our room. Quite expensive.

Review 28:The view from the lobby and restaurant was impossibly beautiful. The food in the restaurant was amazing, worth driving hours for. The room was traditional but well appointed and of good size.

Review 29:Had requested room with lovely view and booked superior room to help. Was therefore considerably upset to find we had been given a dark room overlooking (and overlooked by) the car park and smoking cabin.

Review 30:Not really warned it was a little difficult to find at first with very windy single track road. Breakfast on our first morning seemed very meagre. You could choose various items and I chose mushrooms ..and got one....and tomatoes...and got half. The second morning I asked if I could have a little more and I did get slightly bigger portions but not generous. Evening meals were also a little small.

Review 31:Location, views, quiet and pleasant staff

Review 32:A very attractive and welcoming 'hotel' with an equally excellent restaurant. The room we had was well designed and well kept with French doors opening up a great view from the Malvern Hills.

Review 33:Nothing...

Review 34:Peace and quiet, the view to die for,the staff were excellent, nothing to much trouble, the food matches the top restaurants in London, put on 2lb in weekend

Review 35:Room 12 no outlook at all and dark/gloomy. Over kitchen. Parking limited so difficult wake returned late. Poor customer service following fire alarm

Review 36:View from terrace stunning. Breakfast very good, wifi connection fine.

Review 37:Staying in room 4 under another room, floor boards from room above very creaky which did keep us awake due to people walking around which seemed like al night long.

Review 38:Nothing whatsoever.

Review 39:The view from our bedroom and from the dining room was absolutely glorious. The food was quite outstanding - I don't think I've ever had such a delicious a dinner (and I'm a vegetarian) where the flavours were so carefully and beautifully combined and elegantly served (without being pretentious, and in sensibly-sized portions). The wine list was astounding - quite the best and most discriminating we have ever seen - and the prices, for the quality of what was on offer, were most reasonable. The service at all 3 of the meals we had was excellent - courteous, knowledgeable and prompt. The large bed was extremely comfortable, and personally I very much liked the fact that the furniture was old and had character. The quiet position of the hotel, some way up the hills, was ideal for walking. Altogether it was a wonderful 24 hours for us, leaving us with splendid memories, and we would certainly come back!

Review 40:Would have liked a more varied choice for those who didn't want a cooked breakfast, eg more fresh fruit and bread choices, interesting cereals

Review 41:Great food at dinner. Friendly accommodating staff -- offered to make me a special supper when learning I'd be arriving late. The views. Good wi-fi in rooms (tho no phone signal).

Review 42:Bed was damp and smelled of mould. Bathroom had a cobweb and could have been cleaner. Wifi did not work in the room.

Review 43:Breakfast was excellent. Staff were pleasant and friendly. The views were lovely.

Review 44:The room seemd old and 'cottagey' - I would have preferrred it to be more modern. The bath was terrible....so narrow that a normal sized man would find it uncomfortable.

Review 45:The location; the view; the food was absolutely superb; the waiter and waitress were excellent and the wine list excellent too.

Review 46:Bed too soft for us but not a big problem. Room hot. Wifi very frustrating, worked well initially then not at all in the evening.

Review 47:Position, breakfast, helpful and friendly staff. Everything you could possible want down to toothpicks, room well planned so you could dry your hair while looking in a mirror.

Review 48:Heavily scuffed, badly maintained furniture including a broken chair; there were black greasy stains on all the arms of the armchairs; one of the lampshades was also broken. The counterpane on the bed was dirty, and when removed revealed a shabby dark brown blanket; the old tin holding the hand made biscuits was disgusting. There was a black mark in the bath and the carpet in the corridor outside was very badly stained. The entrance to The Pinnicles was messy and shabby.

Review 49:The view was exceptional.

Review 50:The eve meals little pretencious, heard other guest having to ask what the food was . Near £14 for a risotto that should have had haddock in ? Plenty of gluey cheese though! Not impressed with food. However breakfasts super . Bar not well stocked. Smell of dog mess

Review 51:Room, bed. We're most comfortable. We also thought the setting was scenic, peaceful and staff friendly.

Review 52:A small hotel with a big heart. Beautiful views, lovely rooms, fabulous staff who make you very welcome and the Best breakfast served in a hotel for a long time.

Review 53:Congratulations to the owners, A credit to all concerned in making this immaculate conversion from working farm to a most satisfying holiday accomodation, Extremely professional family run business, We do not hesitate by recommending to all ,

Review 54:Nothing really. WiFi signal wasn't great but I wasn't away to use my mobile or laptop.

Review 55:Fantastic views, great staff and excellent breakfast. Oh and the views...

Review 56:nothing!

Review 57:Everything was just perfect. However, guests must be aware that the prices for an evening meal for two are similar to the prices in London or the Cotswolds! Having said that food is excellent and the presentation mouth-watering....

Review 58:Nothing.

Review 59:From the moment we arrived to when we departed we were made to feel so welcome. The hotel, location, food and staff were absolutely fabulous. Will definitely be returning.

Review 60:Nothing really, WiFi a little slow in the rooms.

Review 61:Excellent level of service, which wasn't intrusive. Food outstanding, excellent taste, presentation and portion size.

Review 62:OVER PRICED ON THE WINE - OUR ONLY CRITICISM.

Review 63:STAFF BRILLIANT ESPECIALLY THE BREAKFAST WAITRESS, SO INTUITIVE. ALL VERY WELCOMING, STUNNING VIEWS. EXCEPTIONAL ATTENTION TO DETAIL, FOR E.G. FRESH MILK IN FRIDGE IN SMALL INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS. FOOD VERY VERY TASTY I very rarely give 10 out of 10 as there is always room for improvement. However, not in this case. Made our visit very memorable.

Review 64:The food was superb, the room was very comfortable, the location is beautiful, the staff were extremely friendly and the general ambience was most pleasing.

Review 65:The TV in our room was not working well but I feel sure it will be fixed before the next guests.

Review 66:The owners were very nice people and we were free to come and go as we wished. My husband was given an excellent cooked breakfast , but not being a fan myself , I was able to have a lovely plate of mixed fruit, yoghurt, etc.

Review 67:Took a while for hot water to arrive in shower but this is nit-picking on what was an excellent experience.

Review 68:Natural 'unforced' friendliness of the staff. Breakfast superb. Views spectacular.

Review 69:Only allowed one small bread roll on evening meal. Half grapefruit at breakfast was just cut in half, I would have expected it to have been cut in segments for ease of eating.

Review 70:Every thing except the opposite

Review 71:The description said nearly every room has a view - our room certainly did not, which was disappointing as the views from the front of the hotel were superb. The wifi and bedroom light did not work. The staff were strangely formal for people constantly telling the guests to relax. The dinner was bizarre - we were forced to arrive half an hour early and sit elsewhere, then each dish presented was a disparate concoction of discrete elements that did not work well together. The dining room was too brightly lit.

Review 72:The location was superb - a walk straight out from the hotel to the Malvern Hills. The room was comfortable but with a view of the wheelchair ramp and the sheer cliff face behind it made the room dark and less than appealing to spend any time in.

Review 73:The approach up the narrow Holywell Road from the south is a bit daunting at first. Should find some way to advise approach from the north.

Review 74:Location and the staff. Dinner was not cheap but the quality was good value.

Review 75:The shower wasn't very adequate but everything else in the hotel was great

Review 76:The restaurant delivered some amazing food, great service, warm and friendly. Rooms were very comfortable, slightly tired but would stay there again.

Review 77:Bedrooms are clean, tidy, comfortable, but a little dated No draught drinks, which is a shame

Review 78:Great location and views Food and drink are magnificent

Review 79:Could not get WiFi in our room and no-one knew how to fix it - an inconvenience rather than a big problem.

Review 80:The view The friendly and helpful staff Excellent food Comfortable room

Review 81:One small recommendation would be to offer a little more personal advice about the surrounding area. There is a hand-drawn map which, with improvements in clarity and detail, could prove very useful.

Review 82:We had a most enjoyable short visit, particularly enhanced by the warmth and professionalism of all the staff. During our stay my husband was unwell one evening. The staff were solicitous, offering to send up food to the room, making me feel comfortable when I dined alone, and asking after my husband the next morning. One nice touch was that at breakfast a table was set up for one, at a lovely spot by the window. The meals were excellent.

Review 83:A proper fixed shower head with curtain/screen would have been nice.

Review 84:The staff were very helpful and little touches like bottles of Malvern water, an emergency kit and binoculars in the room were nice additional extras. The bed was super comfortable.I didn't eat in the restaurant but would have liked to. It was too expensive and it's a shame they didn't have 'Prix fixe' cheaper deals.

Review 85:We stayed in the cottage in the grounds . The room was very cold ( even in June) . Dinner was overpriced and overcooked and was very poor value.

Review 86:Lovely grounds and great location and views. Staff friendly especially bar and breakfast . Very spacious room and comfortable bed.

Review 87:Room 36 seemed quite warm, but the windows did open to help with the problem. The place seems a bit too formal with seating times for dinner and breakfast. However, the dinner was very very good. The chef can cook.

Review 88:Room 36 was a nice large room with a large bathroom and opening windows. Best internet by far on this trip. Excellent dinner.

Review 89:Staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing too much trouble, our room was lovely, clean and very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant, food was exquisite, freshly cooked and piping hot. Definitely would stay again and recommend it.

Review 90:staff a little bland, restaurant staff miserable,no where near as good as write up.put up in dog annex away from hotel, at £175 room rate per night should be better, have had better rooms for £100 per night at the abbey hotel and malvern hills hotel which are both close by .was charged £3.95 for a bottle of malvern water which pours out of the hill side for free only 1/4 mile away is just taking the michael.biggest smile of the stay was from the old lady at the reception when it was time for me to pay and get her hands on my cash.....sums it up a treat. oh and rude woman who lives in the grounds was not impressive, while i parked my car was just disappointing .

Review 91:location,clean room

Review 92:There was nothing, for me it was all good

Review 93:A beautiful location with spectacular views. Friendly, helpful staff that are there to help. Very comfortable room.

Review 94:The only minor thing that goes against this location for cyclists carrying heavy panniers is the. Steep & what seems never-ending climb to get there!

Review 95:Loved this hotel and the staff went above & beyond to assist us with our bikes, accommodate them safely & make sure we got an early breakfast. Amazing views over the Malverns.

Review 96:WIFI not usable in the room despite password being provided.

Review 97:Comfortable and welcoming with good quality food and wine. Room spacious and nicely furnished.

Review 98:Evening meals a tad overpriced but unbeatable cheese & biscuits.

Review 99:A family run business where all staff are really focussed on the customers. Great place to go to relax & get away.

Review 100:Nothing bad - but for mature travellers a magnifying mirror would be the only thing missing from the bedroom.

Review 101:Friendly staff, comfort everywhere from bedroom to bar to dining. Breakfast semi alfresco even in April!! The views from every room.

Review 102:The bar lady seemed quite stern, i understand that a lot of upper class people visit but we felt a bit out of place when we sat in the lounge especially when she spoke to us as if we wasnt going to order a drink. For a double vodka and coke the cost was £10 per drink, so could only manage two each. We thought this was extortionate.

Review 103:This hotel is stunning, lovely views and so peaceful. Definetely want to return in the warmer weather :)

Review 104:Surcharge for credit card use is unacceptable. Menu options somewhat limited and can be expensive.

Review 105:Good quality family-run hotel. Takes full advantage of superb location. Service generally excellent.

Review 106:Our room was clean but the carpet wasn't spotless, but having said that, carpet cleaning is our trade!

Review 107:This hotel has a fantastic location for the scenery looking out over the Severn Vale whilst having breakfast either in the restaurant or outside in the gardens a few feet away. Our room was equally fantastic with very sumptuous fittings and drapes again with the Severn Vale view. Exceptional value.

Review 108:I am sure the quality of the food at the restaurant is lovely, however the high prices meant we ate elsewhere. Even breakfast was a lofty £12.50, a bit much if all you want is tea and toast!

Review 109:The room we stayed in had a fantastic view of the Malvern region and the narrow balcony was a bonus. It was great to walk straight from the hotel into the hills.

Review 110:The location is fantastic although the final drive up to their reception is perhaps not for the feint hearted, still coming from Suffolk we thought their hills were mountains. The views from the top more than made up for it. Lovely friendly welcome and a superb stay, can't wait to return.

Review 111:The room was well appointed with wonderful views. The restaurant was excellent, a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and food worthy of note. Good, roomy bathroom.

Review 112:Whilst we thought the evening meals were of a very good quality, we found the main ingredient of the dinners i.e. in our case the lamb and the sea bass were very small and this added to the feeling that while very good the meals were somewhat overpriced.

Review 113:Fabulous view, very comfortable public areas and bedrooms and very welcoming and efficient staff. Excellent food, both breakfast and dinner.

Review 114:No wifi in room, although offered. Some service variable although staff mostly very friendly and helpful. Wine prices very high. Fine if restaurant were closer to silver service or fine dining, but it was not. Table cloths at night on the wooden breakfast tables would have helped make a smarter atmosphere for dinner.

Review 115:All the home comforts in a cosy environment, they thought of everything even binoculars for the view! Good size room (superior double) excellent shower.

Review 116:Would have liked more sunshine. Oh well, will just have to come back in the Summer.

Review 117:Beautiful hotel, run by lovely friendly people. Room was comfortable and clean. Food was extra special, compliments to the chef. Wouldn't hesitate to book up again, if back in the stunning Malvern area.

Review 118:More biscuits with tea facilities but I'm just greedy!

Review 119:Loved the location with walks that start virtually from your room. A very warm welcome, delicious food and the most comfy bed yet.

Review 120:Rooms fine but old-fashioned and level of comfort just ok. Our room was very cold.

Review 121:Standard of cuisine at dinner outstanding. Friendly welcoming and efficient staff. Views from some rooms amazing.

Review 122:Nothing

Review 123:The rooms and beds were very comfy and the staff were very friendly and efficient location was brilliant for nature lovers sights the food at breakfast , dinner and in the bar was execellent and very tasty we enjoyed everything about hotel and location

Review 124:Room was awkward shape so generous size felt bit squashed. Room didn't have bath despite requesting when booked.

Review 125:Staff were wonderful. Attentive. Flexible. Helpful. Detail - Boneo for dog + water bowl and dog mat. Excellent shower.

Review 126:Décor in rooms and bar is very dated and a bit shabby. Bathrooms were very old fashioned and electric shower totally useless. The bed was really too hard to sleep comfortably although I think the orthopaedic mattress was meant to be a plus point!

Review 127:Food is excellent and staff are friendly and helpful. The location and view are beautiful with good access to walks from the hotel. Also possible to have dogs (although we didn't bring ours we might another time).

Review 128:Decor in the rooms is dramatic & consuming - takes some getting used too! Bathroom a little faded and dated. The attention to your well being out weighs all the little nags tho.

Review 129:Staff dedication second to none, a real genuine desire to please. You can feel the love, time and effort put into making your stay 1st class. Good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Lovely breakfast but did not realise this was extra? Extra touches in the rooms, lovely tea & biccy selection. Stunning location.

Review 130:Shower in the room we had could do with updating.

Review 131:This was our fourth visit to The Cottage and we were not disappointed! The staff go out of their way to make sure guests have a good break and the service is excellent. Food in restaurant also excellent again.

Review 132:Could have done with Bar meals and access for pets in the bar only.

Review 133:Friendly helpful staff. The Management even provided a Dog Biscuit and Pet bed on arrival. The room was of good size and quiet with direct access to the woods for walking.

Review 134:The bathroom was a bit tired and the shower struggled to deliver any pressure.

Review 135:Our room was beautifully furnished and had a stunning view. The dining facilities were excellent and saved heading out again after a long journey (or a hike up the Worcestershire Beacon).

Review 136:Would have liked a plainer pasta or few more vegetarian options or slightly more proportion of veg to protein. Notice in bathroom about water softener and not drinking water. What do you put in kettle for cup of tea then? Lighting in lounge needs to be more subdued in eve- a bit like a waiting room & didn't encourage loitering after dinner. Our ground floor bedroom had view of a high bank which was a bit disappointing.

Review 137:Great setting, food quite good but overpriced. Nice touch with homemade shortbread in bedroom. Good spot for walk on hills straight from hotel grounds. Fresh milk appreciated in perfect sized containers.

Review 138:The shower in the bathroom was a bit dripply and hard to control.

Review 139:We loved the cosy, friendly feel. The views were spectacular. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious.
