Reviews for Royal Victoria Hotel Snowdonia
Review 1:Great location, easy check in, recently refurbished room. The bar snacks are good value, nicely presented & filling. Breakfast was also very good although a bit of a maze to get to the toast, cereals etc. due to the dining room being set up for later in the day.
Review 2:room service took over an hour for two glasses of wine and a cheese board at about 6pm. The window in our room was very drafty.
Review 3:Staff were very attentive and friendly. Location and view from our room was spectacular. Bar Food was very good and breakfast too. Good service with both staff.
Review 4:Not having option of tomatoes with full breakfast, but this is only a very, very, very tiny "didn't like" - the breakfast was wonderful.
Review 5:All three rooms were clean, warm and comfortable, especially the beds. All the staff we met were courteous, helpful and professional. We were only there three nights, but by the second night the bar staff treated us like "old regulars". The bar food was not only really tasty, but also excellent value for money.
Review 6:the lights in the bathroom were very dim and not even above the mirror. It was impossible to shave. The mirror was too high anyway. The room (102) was above all night flood lights positioned into our room, making it look like daylight. The windows however were so dirty that we had no view at all. Also, the windows didn't open, so we couldn't demist or clean them, and we didn't have fresh air in the room
Review 7:the location
Review 8:check in at 2:00 but most hotels are creaky stairs but that's understandable new part that is being renovated is unfinished in the hallways - requires paint. parking should be offered for free or discounted rate for customers that are checking out at 2:00 that day, but are walking snowdon and may not be back for 2:00.
Review 9:location parking reception room bar/ restaurant breakfast
Review 10:Water was lukewarm first thing in the morning (but hot after breakfast and in the evening).
Review 11:Welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely hotel and location (right at the start of the Llanberis Path to Snowdon). Delicious food - all choices available despite the fact that we stayed during the least busy period.Nice atmosphere.
Review 12:Unfortunately we were overcharged in the bar, but because everything else was superb we did not bother to complain.
Review 13:Excellent location, staff were very friendly on arrival. The evening meal was good value and well prepared. Our room was clean and very comfortable.
Review 14:Room facilities were good but in need of a refresh. Many visitors into outdoor pursuits stay her and the lack of a gym or sauna is disappointing.
Review 15:Service was excellent and the staff a real credit to the Hotel. Food was excellent value. I would choose to stay here again
Review 16:The hotel was quiet warm and our room uncomfortably hot on the first night despite turning the radiator off. It did cool down the next day so not a big issue.
Review 17:The location was perfect. The bed was comfortable. All the staff we came across were smiling and friendly. The breakfast was very good and replenished with fresh items regularly.
Review 18:Decor isnt the most up to date in the rooms, I think they could push the design standard as its such a wonderful character hotel, with a fabulouse history and loaction
Review 19:My view was wonderful , the window seat was the best
Review 20:A little more attention to detail could be paid to the daily cleaning in the room.
Review 21:Location and room very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Food very good and excellent value for money.
Review 22:The first double bedroom they offered us was very small, very hot & stuffy with one fan light opening in the window. The charge for this room was just under £100 ! Incredibly expensive for what it was . I am Welsh so I do know the area.Only there to visit my Mother in hospital.
Review 23:Location of hotel and staff. The fact that they could move us to a slightly bigger and cooler bedroom.
Review 24:The first room we were given room 110 was very noisy. People would gather underneath the room to smoke and the noise kept us awake. I requested to be moved and we were given another lovely room which was much quieter.
Review 25:Excellent location, very clean and comfortable. Food excellent.
Review 26:Room was a little small, and even with window open and heating off in the room, still too hot, therefore made sleeping awkward.
Review 27:Location. Lovely choice for breakfast.
Review 28:The first impression of hotel from carpark could be smarter.
Review 29:Stunning location and near Mountain Railway. Spacious feel amd very comfortable clean room with good bed. Very good food and staff made you feel very welcome
Review 30:Food wasn't as good as we had expected (fish and chips - batter very oily / Guinness pie - chewy fatty meat). We didn't eat there again (except breakfast) during the 3 night stay. Breakfast.... nothing special. Booked a double room, walked in to a twin, contacted reception, they moved us, but opened door, another twin.... they then had to get housekeeping to make room in to a double for us. Friday (9/10) and Saturday (10/10) the lady who seated us for breakfast came across and rude and unprofessional.
Review 31:Very clean rooms, comfortable. Location was great for Snowdon. Close to town. Creaky floorboards but to be expected in such an old building.
Review 32:I have now stopped at this hotel five times in recent years. The predominantly young staff are the best I have encountered in my travels around the country. Well mannered and always cheerful. An absolute credit to their parents and Wales. The hotel has an old world charm which is a joy to behold.
Review 33:The food was a little expensive and over elaborate ( could do with being a little more comfort food) especially after a long day
Review 34:Location is brilliant and the staff where brilliant
Review 35:Booked Rooms were on different Floors. Single Room was extremely small. Confusing floor plan requiring taking two different lifts which can't be helped given age of the building.
Review 36:Excellent location for walking to Snowdon Railway Station and exploring the local town and nearby Castle ruins within the wooded Estate grounds. Booked a triple Room and given 1x Double and 1x Single Room (on a different floor) for the night. Double Room was comfortable having been refurbished. Breakfast very good with attentive staff. Free Parking on site.
Review 37:Their computer system didn't seem to know which rooms were doubles / twins. The staff were happy to sort something out for us, but we were sent to 2 twin rooms before a double was made available. Don;t let this out you off though !
Review 38:Buffet hot breakfast. Perfect before a day's hiking. Seems like they have live music on Friday's
Review 39:The room wasn't clean. Hair in the shower. Dirty carpet under the window. The cutlery in the dining room was dirty. Poor quality food for breakfast. The hotel was noisy late into the night. This hotel is very tired and does not give value for money.
Review 40:The gardens are nice.
Review 41:Buffet breakfast was the best I've ever had in a hotel - very fresh and lots of choice. Couldn't get a better location for the most popular trail up Snowden
Review 42:The room given to us was just outside the service delivery drive way and so we had very little privacy and a lot of delivery noise including the emptying of recycling bottles. The staff also seemed young and not very experienced.
Review 43:The old style decore was beautiful and the location on the lake as well as near the Mt Snowdon train made it ideal for our short stay
Review 44:When arrived woman on reception was so miserable, didn't even say hello when I did, just said "room wasn't ready 15 minutes too early to check in, can wait in the bar if you like". Went to get food in the bar but gave up after 5 minutes as the staff completely ignored us, just kept talking to each other
Review 45:Location was perfect. Breakfast was brilliant, so much choice
Review 46:Very thin walls of hotel rooms and squeaky floors; rooms not completely cleaned of dead flies on windowsill throughout our 4-night stay;
Review 47:Convenience of location and good views of local scenery; pleasing historical character of hotel; not expensive at all and good food.
Review 48:Having to come home!
Review 49:Everything was perfect. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night! ALL the staff couldn't be more helpful and very accommodating of all our needs with a 5 month baby. Food delicious. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Location amazing.
Review 50:hair on the sheets empty shampoo of previous guests still in bathroom having my head in the sink when sitting on the toilet light bulb not working evaluation form of previous guests on the bed
Review 51:location breakfast, bar and staff the labyrinth to the third floor light bulb quickly fixed
Review 52:Room and hotel was far too hot Bathroom too small had to close door to use bath and toilet Breakfast was not very hot dispite being on hot plates, not enough choice for pastries and no fresh fruit only compote And no continental meat or cheese option Coffee could also do with being stronger/nicer
Review 53:Very comfy huge bed!
Review 54:Bedroom needed a little TLC, also stained curtain. Bathroom black mould around taps, window frame & curtain
Review 55:Fantastic breakfast. Bar meals not bad either.
Review 56:I did not like being able to hear the neighbours. Being an older hotel the floors squeaked in the hallways.
Review 57:The location of the hotel was ideal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was varied and delicious.
Review 58:Staff in the hotel were superb. The location could not be better for the Mount Snowdon railway and several other attractions. Scenery around the hotel is fantastic. The hotel is comfortable and good value for money. As some other reviewers say it is a little tired in places but nothing extreme and at the price It is not trying to oversell itself when taking the positives into account. My wife and I had a superb few days and are considering a return in the next few years.
Review 59:Had some problems with the cleanliness of the room and the restaurant but the manager spent time with us getting all the details and said she would ensure they were felt with.
Review 60:Great location for Snowdon trails, but not much choice locally when it comes to restaurants.
Review 61:We needed to rent 2 rooms for 3 people (parents and child). Poor cleanup of rooms. Room carpet and bathroom floor had crumbs/little trashon it from previous guests...left it there for the 3 nights we stayed asa test...it was never vacuumed or picked up. Wifi did not work in eitherof the rooms we payed for. We alerted front desk, but it was not fixedbefore we left.
Review 62:Friendly staff, breakfast and dinner food better than expected. Locationwas a surprise to us, walking distance to several"attractions" and the very small "downtown" ofLlanberis.
Review 63:Restaurant was full so we ate in the bar! It would have been nice to be offered restaurant food none the less!
Review 64:The bar felt like a pub, breakfast was delicious and the location was fantastic
Review 65:It wasn't ideal for babies or pram due to the hills and mountains, but there was plenty to do around the town to occupy us.
Review 66:The location was picturesque and clean. The hotel itself was ideally nestled in Snowdonia. The people were very friendly.
Review 67:Room finishes somewhat tired with many creaking floorboards. Single glazed windows. Inter-room noise reduction not brilliant.
Review 68:Site location excellent. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
Review 69:-Poor wifi connection in the upper floors (room in the second floor near the lift) -Very loud creaky floors in the hallways
Review 70:-Location: excellent for the 'Snowdonia Mountain Railway'. -Modern bathroom with large fluffy towels -Approachability of staff -Very good value for money -Probably the best hotel in the area
Review 71:Single room a little cramped and no view. Hotel's business appeared to focus on visiting coach parties.
Review 72:Location was outstanding. Parking was convenient.
Review 73:Early start to catch the early morning Snowdon train and at 6am there was no hot water to the bathroom. Just luke warm.
Review 74:Great location and view from window towards the hills. Just 100m from the Snowdon Railway making that excursion so easy to complete. The gardens were relaxing and peaceful in the evening.
Review 75:Noisy fan in bathroom........could hear other rooms with fan on.......other than that no complaints at all !
Review 76:Staff were all brilliant ....had a bonus entertainment night which we weren't expecting!
Review 77:Old building so very creaky floors. Sleep disturbed by people walking in the hall or adjacent rooms. Can't be helped!
Review 78:Beautiful location. Amazing breakfast!
Review 79:Room was ok for the one night we stayed there, not much space in the room. Bed wasn't very comfortable, (two singles pushed together) which caused a lump in the middle of the bed. We were right by the hallway door so could hear everyone coming and going. Felt more like hostel than a hotel for £109 for one night. Disappointed, sorry Royal Victoria.
Review 80:Great location and free car parking at the hotel for guests.
Review 81:for the price paid, a full cooked breakfast should have been included, not just continental. although the choice was good
Review 82:the bathroom had a good power shower, not often you find this!
Review 83:Pillows uncomfortable, television reception poor, front entrance poor steps would think it would be difficult for anyone,
Review 84:Staff friendly, enjoyed our dinning,
Review 85:Shower was terrible. It dribbled out water that barely washed you. Especially when you've just been sweating for 5 hours climbing up and down Snowdon. Defiantly could make the shower a lot better.
Review 86:Perfect stay if you're visiting Snowdonia! It's opposite the train ride up (and the footpath) Defiantly would recommend if staying there for a couple of nights.
Review 87:Could'nt open room windows and at night was like a sauna even with the help of a table fan.
Review 88:Great location right opp train for mount Snowdon and in the middle of everything to do in tha area.Staff were excellent
Review 89:It's absolutely boiling in this hotel. Didn't get a good night's sleep here due to this even with a fan on and window open. We did wonder why there was a fan provided in the room! When we said about this and the noise we heard one night keeping us up, we werent offered a discount and were told we shouldn't really complain about the heat as we are in Wales (tongue in cheek but still not a good response). The italian food in the restaurant is also pretty awful. We woukd stay again though as these are small resolvable issues in a heartbeat
Review 90:The location is unbeatable, it's literally right next to the mountain railway station at Llanberis and to the rear of the hotel is the famous black Princes tower as painted by John Turner. The views are immense (but no view as such from third floor doubles). There is a lot to do in this location. Waiting staff are very polite and the building itself is lovely
Review 91:The double bed was one of the most uncomfortable me and my partner ever slept in; I would have expected something better from an executive branded room. Latex or memory foam toppers or upgraded mattresses would have made a world of difference and are one investment the hotel needs very much. There was a constant humming sound in the room, which I assume was perhaps the air conditioning system. I was fine with that, however, my fiance had a sleepless night. The walls are paper thin. We had a couple with a young baby in the room next to us. Thankfully, the child slept peacefully that night. WiFi reception was terrible in our room on the second floor, but fine in the bar and restaurant. We couldn't connect on two different devices and had to use our data plan instead. A couple of WiFi boosters throughout the hotel would have done wonders! The cleanliness is not the best. Dusty lampshades and debris on bathroom tiles. When having breakfast, the cutlery didn't seem very clean and one cup was badly stained with tea. The bar has a good selection of beer (generously topped to the brim of the glass) and drinks. However, in hindsight, I cannot recommend the food having dined there twice. Very hit and miss.
Review 92:The location is brilliant; Llanberis Path is a two minute walk away, the town center about ten minutes. Free parking on site which is very generously sized. The breakfast offering was superb: all you can eat continental buffet and an English / cooked breakfast in addition to that. Very good. Both a restaurant and a bar are on site, which is handy in bad weather since you don't have to travel far to get something to eat. The staff both in the reception area and the bar / restaurant were very professional and always had a smile on their face, which is nice. The view was gorgeous - we could see the Yr Wyddfa by looking out of the main window.
Review 93:The bed was too soft. The bar was fairly formal, didn't have any cocktails (!), and there were no wine glasses available. My large wine was served in a Pepsi glass. Bar service was very slow too.
Review 94:The view was stunning, location excellent.
Review 95:My room was located next to a staircase and it literally sounded like a herd of elephants marching up and down half the night. The stairs creak and bang really loud. The curtains needed a wash they were covered in marks from top to bottom it looked like a drink had exploded all over them.
Review 96:Very convinient when wanting to explore snowdonia.
Review 97:The hotel is opposite this railway so once you have parked the car in the hotel's large car park, you can just pop across the road. Our room, 202, was lovely and spacious and included a sofa. The curtains, textiles and general decoration were first class, plus a wall mounted tv. Best bit was it had two large opening windows with views across to the mountains and the lake. Not forgetting the large comfortable bed made with crisp white linen. This is a three star rated hotel but our room had benefited from the money spent upgrading the hotel and was of four star quality.
Review 98:The hotel needs a bit of work - it is creaking from the years of use - the floorboards on one side of our room were so noisy, you couldn't walk on them without waking up people in the room.
Review 99:Loved the location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds are pretty epic - there is a castle just 2 mins stroll from the back of the hotel.
Review 100:Some staff hav a funny attitude to English. Food wasnt very good. Overall price of hotel was exspensive. Considering average room an location of room
Review 101:Big tv in room
Review 102:No bad experience. However the single room was much smaller than I realised from the photos and was in great need of refurbishment. My room in particular had marks on the walls and did not feel clean.
Review 103:Kind staff and lovely grounds. The evening food was very good and the breakfast was above average.
Review 104:I have difficulty in getting in and out of the bath/shower, and could have done with a few more handles to catch hold of.
Review 105:The views from the hotel, and the general comfort and cleanliness.
Review 106:Our room was above the entertainment area , they had a singer on that evening and the vibration was unbelievable. As we had an early start we asked to change rooms as it was so bad.
Review 107:Reception staff were helpful
Review 108:Booked evening meal in the conservatory well in advance, turned up on the evening and were told no places available but there were 2 uncleaned tables available,so I complained & was then moved!!,very sloppy I thought
Review 109:A couple of the heaters always seem to be stuck on in the corridors so quite warm. Fans supplied in the bedrooms so it's ok.
Review 110:Staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast is lovely. We come every year. Glad to find a travel cot ready to go in our bedroom. Can't wait to stay again in 2016
Review 111:The stairs should be signed better. We didn't need a lift, only when checking in and out but didn't find our way via the stairs until the morning we checked out. We had a noisy family in the room next door, woke up at 5.30am on a Sunday, no fault of the hotel but we came away for a child free break. The hotel in parts is in need of updating which has been started in parts.
Review 112:The staff were very friendly, very helpful. Lovely location, within walking distance of town for us non mountain climbers!
Review 113:The Staff were Excellent as our booking details were for a double room instead of a family room and they found us a larger room straight away to be able to put a z bed in there. All Staff were friendly and helpful and the Location was perfect right at the bottom of the mountain.
Review 114:Unfortunately the price of the stay at this hotel was a lot more expensive than last time we stayed. The cooked breakfast has gone down hill & I had to ask for clean crockery on two separate occasions
Review 115:Checking in was quick & efficient. Rooms have had a make over. We had a double bed that was massive & had incredeble soft bed linen. The staff where friendly & approachable. The gardens are well maintained.
Review 116:Breakfast wasnt very good. Day 1 and day 2 breakfast were different sizes, i think on day 2 they were running out of stuff so only got 1 sausage etc. Bacon was rubbery both days and the whole breakfast was cold on day 2. Waiter couldn't find our table on both days or anyone else's it appeared. Tea was still weak after many stirs. The hotel appears to be geared up for the older client, which didnt make any difference to us but may for a young family.
Review 117:Location of the hotel is great and my son's views were lovely. The staff were really friendly and only marked down because no-one appeared to know the table numbering at breakfast. Comfortable, clean rooms although my sons room was better than mine (views, bath, window seat) for the same price.
Review 118:Need proper t bags in the room (stronger needed). Shower temperamental hot to cold plus hardly any water coming out on times.
Review 119:Room very nice, close to amenities bar staff friendly very good food. Zinfandel rose and beer very good.
Review 120:With a baby we didn't appreciate someone knocking on at 9 in the morning for room service as this woke him up. Also although the bed was spacious and comfy it happened to be two single beds pushed together which made it slightly uncomfortable with a hard ridge in the middle. The shower screen could have been longer sad well seen as the floor got soaked.
Review 121:Really friendly and helpful staff. Big TV.
Review 122:Every time I stay here I am always slightly disappointed by the rooms. Nothing specific and nothing to really complain about just no wow or memorable factor - bland.
Review 123:Location is excellent and service is good.
Review 124:The hotel is seriously overpriced for what you get. The food is awful from both the pub and restaurant and again really overpriced. There isn't anything else in the village next to it apart from a couple of convenience stores, so if you want an abandoned overpriced area to stay in then maybe you'll like it.
Review 125:If you are planning to climb mount snowdon then the Llanberis Path is a 2 minute walk away although there is a car park nearby too which means you can stay anywhere and drive or get public transport to the same location. The room was decent enough and the bed was nice even with its irritable seem in the center.
Review 126:Poor quality breakfast (cooked) No hot water....demand seems to outstrip supply.
Review 127:Location is fantastic. The price is amazing. Wifi is an added bonus. I would definitely stay again.
Review 128:It was literally a bed-room. The bathroom was very small and the shower was a mere dribble. They had stopped taking bookings for the restaurant because of a large party, so was forced to have room service, but still charged extra for the "pleasure". Double bed was 2 beds zipped together, wifi cuts out too!
Review 129:Staff were nice and friendly. The room was clean and location was pretty
Review 130:there was an intermittent knocking noise throughout the night which woke up our family on numerous occasions. This was only experienced in one of the two rooms we had booked though.
Review 131:The location of the hotel was perfect for a holiday in llanberis. The rooms were clean and the included breakfast was much more than we expected.
Review 132:Room was a little tired looking and bed was a bit too firm for me. I know some rooms have been refurbished already and they looked lovely so hopefully the whole lot will be done eventually!
Review 133:All staff were very polite and helpful which made our stay very enjoyable.
Review 134:Maybe our service provider, but we found the wifi hit and miss, please note, not a negative, but the whole area we had network issues. Also Room 101............. Wedding guests very noisy outside our bedroom window at night.
Review 135:Friendly staff members throughout the stay. Lots to do and see.
Review 136:Everything. We are very happy with our stay and would defiantly come again. The only point we would make is the lack of car parking space at peak times.
Review 137:Wi-Fi reception was poor. Bathroom could be laid out better (shower cubicle very small with extra room to one side it could be much better. Also, why don't hotel room have coat hangers on doors or shelves under mirrors?
Review 138:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms
Review 139:Only one thing, the breakfast. My wife and I arrived for breakfast at 9.00am and ordered an English breakfast. The fried egg yolks were dried up and so was the bacon. It appeared as if they had been standing for too long.
Review 140:It was all generally good the standard I would expect from a 3 star hotel.
Review 141:a great view from bedroom window staff were busy with wedding but dealt with other customers with out making them wait .Ideal location for the snowdon trail marathon .I will be staying next year .Food was very good
