Reviews for Lord Leycester Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is old and very dated it needs a good refurbish . The rooms are very cold the TVs didn't work no heating in the bathroom , no eavening meals ,breakfast starts to late

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:The hotel needs a complete overhaul . There was no heating in the bathroom .the TVs didn't work , the bar had no beer until we helped.

Review 4:The restaurant up the road

Review 5:The room was clean but dated and a little tatty and the taps were loose on the sink. TV kept losing signal.

Review 6:Location was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

Review 7:The lack of blind in the bathroom - with the light on anyone could see in when showering etc which meant having to shower in the dark. The shower stopped half way through presumably due to water pressure. Generally drab and very worn fixtures and fittings, broken window catches, bed cover stained. Very poor tv reception which kept going off. No wifi in room despite being sold as available - I was on business and needed to work.

Review 8:The staff were a real asset, friendly and efficient, the best thing about my stay

Review 9:Discoloured water from bath tap that left rust in the bath once drained. Bathroom floor ground in dirt. Radiators had large cold spots so room and bathroom cold. An electric heater was supplied.

Review 10:Location

Review 11:Decor is dated and shower was poor (something to do with the old pipework due to the age of the building - I guess that's just a bit more character!), but for the money we were very happy.

Review 12:Very good value for the location, with a free car park which is excellent. Bed was super comfy, room / ensuite was extremely clean and staff were very friendly.

Review 13:Very disappointed with the quality of the room. TV and phone didn't work, drawers on the furniture were broken, shower was impossible to use due to temperature control it was either scalding or freezing. Paint on the walls/ceiling was peeling off with mould appearing. The window would not open to allow fresh air.

Review 14:Location of the Hotel is the only plus to staying here

Review 15:Expensive breakfast, not included in already quite costly room rate

Review 16:Nice old hotel. Right in centre. Breakfast was not included in room rate, an also expensive. Great cafe 3 min walk away less than half the hotel price. Lots of real ale pubs in walking distance. Free hotel carpark.

Review 17:Room very dated and had not been fully cleanes when I got it. Cleaner later turned up to finish off. Hundreds of small flies in bathroom, could not see where they came from?

Review 18:Great location for castle and town

Review 19:Sadly the WiFi was not working in our room most of the time but the staff were very friendly and tried to put things right

Review 20:Warwick is a quaint olde worlde town & this very reasonably priced hotel is located within easy walking distance of everything you will want to do; racecourse, castle, trains, shops, eat & drink etc.

Review 21:Wall paper was peeling off the walls, the walls are very thin as can hear everything said in the room adjacent. There was no hot water at all, there was a dribble out of the tap which was freezing cold and nothing to the shower. The rooms were very dated. House keeping disturbed us at 8:30am when we were checking out that day and checkout wasn't til 11. The lager seemed watered down and the gas had clearly gone so was flat. Finally, the time for breakfast was changed to finish earlier than advertised without any notification. When asked how my stay was I explained all this to a completely disinterested check out staff, I had the impression they were hearing everything for the umpteenth time that morning! Won't be staying again even if you paid me.

Review 22:I started in room 103, the shower was not working. They said that it was fixed but on my return on 31st not only did the shower not work there was no hot water. I was moved to room 136, a suite. Decor was shabby and the whole hotel was lacking atmosphere and people. Empty bar and restaurant did not help. Heating was inadequate with fan heaters to back up. I am awaiting my 25% discount to credit my account....!!!

Review 23:Whole property in need of revamp No heating in room on one evening No electric shower works on first morning Place like a morgue when we arrived. Being charged for the stay it was appauling Booking for allowing the listing!!!!!!!!!

Review 24:location to castle brilliant

Review 25:The decorations are a bit old and 'tired' and in need of refurbishment. The floors creak and groan a bit.

Review 26:The location for Warwick town centre was really good. The inclusive car park was very helpful and convenient. We had a large comfortable room and bed.

Review 27:I have already written to complain to you about the problems. The room was ver basic - double bed and no space to relax. Central heating not working Curtains did not meet and not well hung Hot water tsp in bath ran brown. Rusty water Shower control came off in hand snd did not regulate temperature. Young staff were pleasant but had no management skills or authority The reception was unwelcoming and general atmosphere has no ambience at all. A sad neglected hotel

Review 28:The breakfast is nice but not value for money, we go out for breakfast. Over the last few months since it will be closing (such a shame) its really been let go. The tv ariel doesnt work you only get a couple of channels and our last morning there was no hot water. It wasnt a case of running it for ages (old boilers on otherside of hotel) the water wasnt coming out at all.

Review 29:I love this hotel we've stayed loads of times and its one of my favourites in Warwick. We even have a favourite room which we request and mostly get. The staff are friendly and helpful, it's always clean and has so much character and history which is always worth reading up on.

Review 30:The room we stayed in could do with a makeover, chipped paint on skirting boards and bathroom has seen better days! so felt the room overall was a little run down, having said that the bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep.

Review 31:location very good for castle, shops and restaurants, the dinning room was lovely and enjoyed our breakfast, which set us up for the day!

Review 32:The water in the bedroom was extremely brown, and a scrum formed round the bath. The staff said it was rust in the pipes and it wouldn't do us any harm. They did move us. Avoid room 105

Review 33:Leaving

Review 34:unfortunately the power of the water in the shower was poor

Review 35:Good size room, clean and all the facilities that are required, was able to leave my car in the car park with no extra charge after I had checked out

Review 36:Hotel has seen far better days, it is now quite shabby. Limited facilities and rooms suffer from poor sound-proofing. Also overly warm. Needs significant investment.

Review 37:Location was ideal, especially for the castle. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 38:Radiator was not working Bathroom was extremely filthy - see photos ! Dressing table prevented wardrobe doors from opening ! So had to lay clothes on the floor !!

Review 39:The cooked breakfast was very tasty & well presented

Review 40:Poor decor, no hot water in shower over bath, inadequate lighting in the room, no heating to bathroom, bed not particularly comfy

Review 41:Location and evening out of the hotel. Breakfast was good

Review 42:not really a bad comment but the whole hotel needs a update. Very tatty in places.

Review 43:Friendly staff and very helpful. Good breakfast and plenty of choice.

Review 44:VERY run down. Peeling paint and wallpaper in bedroom. Light fittings broken.. curtains falling off.. bath chipped and painted. At 2.30 am on a Thursday night/Friday morning a group of guys were in the bar. They came outside to smoke every 20 minutes. Right under my bedroom window.. very loud and inconsiderate, they didn't turn in till 4.30am. I didn't get much sleep. I will never stay again.

Review 45:Town Centre lowest priced hotel in Warwick

Review 46:Couple of pubes kicking around the bathroom and abut of rubbish in-between the bed and bedside table. For the price I can not complain!! I would stay agein and recommend!!

Review 47:Price, location, freindly professional staff!!

Review 48:Online publicity did not make it clear that there was no bar food or restaurant in the evening. Grubby bathroom floor and tiles. Rotting windowsill and dirty windows.

Review 49:Friendly staff. Excellent cooked breakfast. Free parking on-site. Spotlessly clean bed linen and towels, clean toilet and basin, despite general air of shabbiness of the hotel once you enter the upstairs.

Review 50:Room very tired - water stained ceiling, water stained wall, peeling wallpaper, frayed carpet, bathroom floor dirty, mildew around bath. Shower no more than a trickle of hot water. Otherwise great !

Review 51:Good location for Warwick centre and attractions. Staff welcoming.

Review 52:The floors are creaky, sound & heat insulation is poor, you have to wait 15 mins in the morning for hot water.

Review 53:The staff is very helpful, the location is great, the architecture is unique.

Review 54:The bedroom was far too hot although the radiator was turned off because un insulated hot water pipes ran through it close to the bed. A fan was offered but would have been offered.

Review 55:Quiet, central

Review 56:Water didn't get very hot in the shower in the morning so had to have a bath.

Review 57:Staff incredibly friendly, great location not far from Warwick Castle. Good facilities including a large lounge and house bar.

Review 58:Room was in bad order paintwork on all3doors in room badly chipped and a large hole had been badly filled.bathroom bad with several damp patches and big crack on ceiling from leak above tile grout mancky and tiles loose.dangerously hot pipes around room hot water in bathroom also dangerously hot could put hand under it .all floorboards and otherdoors could be heard creaking badly from our room carpets in corridors badly worn.have since heard hotel has been sold for redevelopment if I had known this I would not have booked this hotel

Review 59:Breakfast was good booked double room but got 2single beds pushed together but was comfortable

Review 60:I have stayed here many times, everytime I stay I seemed to be next to others, this time I was on a busy, noisey corrider. The hotel is big and not full so it doesn't seem necessary to put us all together.

Review 61:Parking and friendly staff

Review 62:The decor, thin walls, a room that was way too hot so had to open the windows fully, squeaky loud corridor door. Hotel desperately needs a make over and to make the noise insulation better as well as the heating system.

Review 63:Location, price, super friendly staff.

Review 64:The yellow water from the taps

Review 65:The place is amazing lovely rooms cheerful staff only downside is the water in the taps it was yellow other then that its amazing i love coming ere cant wait to visit again

Review 66:We have stayed before but this time we were told room upgraded to executive room we would not liked to have seen standard room very depressing

Review 67:Location of hotel

Review 68:The hotel needed some TLC

Review 69:We were going to an event at the castle and the hotel was located 5 mins walk away. The staff were all lovely, very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and had a wide selection to choose from.

Review 70:The cold shower in the morning. The wallpaper peeling off. The grubbiness of the bathroom. I can see its old. The rooms could do with a makeover.

Review 71:The friendly man on reception. The free car park. The actually bed was quite comfy. The room was wa. You could tell the hearing was on. The size of the room.

Review 72:our room was small, dingy and depressing, the tv was minute and the procedure for hot water was to apparently let it run for about 10 mins. which, had we been told we would have been able to shower after our journey!

Review 73:the breakfast was delicious

Review 74:first time I've ever stayed in a hotel that didn't serve food, except for breakfast!! Twin room was small, and shower didn't work well

Review 75:Location and friendly staff, off-street parking for cars

Review 76:I knew they were renovating but did not expect to be put in a room with a large old cobweb, a strip of wood with nails exposed by the radiator, mould on the bathroom and a mattress with springs you could feel easily through the sheets. On leaving the receptionist said they would make sure these thing were checked that day. Not that the mattress would be replaced and frankly of no benefit to me. Cheap or not I wouldn't stay again.

Review 77:I found an offer so only paid £45. Receptionist on arrival was ok.

Review 78:The hotel is in desperate need of maintenance. The rooms are in a very poor state of repair especially the bathrooms. Very noisy floorboards throughout the building make getting a good nights sleep almost an impossibility.

Review 79:Good location, very near Warwick Castle.

Review 80:Television not easy to operate, and front room that I had was quite noisy from traffic and Saturday night crowd. Double glazing would sort that out

Review 81:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast - especially the mushrooms! A quick refund on breakfasts not used.

Review 82:Dated,smelly, dirty, leaking radiator, no hot water, such a shame

Review 83:Location, price, clean bedding, near restaurants, tea and coffee in room, friendly service

Review 84:Good size room (to which we were moved because the TV wasn't working in our original one). Brilliant location in Jury Street, a short walk to everything worth seeing in Warwick, and a car park on the premises included in the price was a real bonus.

Review 85:Room very basic. No electric shower, took 10 mins to get warm. No radiator, only electric fire. Have thrown better curtains away. Damp and black flooring covering in bathroom. Enamel bath chipped very badly.

Review 86:Location was superb!.

Review 87:It's ok, at least this time I had a hot shower, with second floor room, but the plumbing on the first floor rooms is worth avoiding. Bit shabby needs to be upgraded really.

Review 88:Location, free parking, staff

Review 89:The room we stayed in (116) was clearly disgusting! There were stains on cushions, pillows ect. There was damp and mould almost everywhere! The bathroom in fact was gross! There was no shower curtain or screen meaning the floor got very wet, which is why it's mouldy... I'd definitely never stay again! There were even water damage marks on the ceilings in most if not all of the landings/corridors!! To sum it up The Lord Leycester is disgusting!!

Review 90:Location was the only good thing about the hotel.

Review 91:The room we stayed on was located at the front of the hotel and the traffic was very noisy from early morning. The room was in need of some TLC and re-decorating.

Review 92:Very friendly staff, clean and tidy.

Review 93:We had no heating all night, we managed to get a heater for our room but it was cold. We only stayed one night, so we coped with it

Review 94:The location was fantastic - a stones throw from the Castle!! The staff were really good and friendly, they even gave us buy one get one free at the Castle. This saved us money and the room was good value too.

Review 95:When we arrived we had to go find somewhere else to park and pay for over night parking 10 minutes away from the hotel, the hotel car park was free for its residents but we could not get into the car because of a christening

Review 96:The location was fantastic and the value for money

Review 97:The whole hotel needs a revamp but immediate attention needs to be paid to the guest rooms. Peeling paint and wallpaper, curtains hanging off, mouldy discoloured shower curtains. Also not enough staff, no staff in the bar you have to get the receptionist also no staff at reception when needed to check out, rang the bell in vain. Also torn carpets in communal areas (dangerous)

Review 98:The few staff were friendly, breakfast was nice.

Review 99:Old building and you get what you pay for

Review 100:Fantastic location not bad price stayed one night only happy with our stay would recommend and would stay there again

Review 101:Hotel was scruffy, dirty, not been decorated for at least 20 years, smelt really bad like old carpet. I had no radiator in my room just a dangerous electric heater under a worn curtain. Hair dryer hadn't been electricity PAT tested since 2009. Bathroom was terrible, no hot water, a shower which just dribbled out water, Bath had a crack in it. I could go on and on! How this has 3 stars on Booking.com I'll never know. I was booked into this hotel by works as it was the only hotel who could get us all in, if I had a choice I would of moved hotels it was that bad. One of those places you still feel dirty getting out of the shower!

Review 102:The whole hotel is very shabby. Wallpaper in our room was peeling and it felt a little damp. I understand the hotel is closing down in January. I'm not surprised.

Review 103:The reception staff were very pleasant and amenable.

Review 104:No bad experiences.

Review 105:The location was excellent. A lot of places to eat within five to ten minutes of our front door, and they ARE popular, so reserve or eat fairly early. The young staff were very helpful, and went out of their way to assist. Breakfast was well cooked, and served quickly, with plenty of choice.

Review 106:Just an observation but the hotel could do with a bit of an overhaul and it should be advertised that they do not open their restaurant in the evenings.

Review 107:The location of this hotel was great and the hotel staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.

Review 108:The staff thought it was appropriate to put a family with young children in a room directly above the bar. The walls were so thin I could literally hear every conversation that was taking place, it was as if they were in the same room. I could clearly hear every (frequent) swear word that was said.

Review 109:Excellent location and nice staff.

Review 110:The building and facilities are best described as tired. The hotel will be closing and changed to new apartments at the end of 2015 so no money is being spent on refurbishment.

Review 111:Close to Warwick Castle which we needed for a function. As the hotel will be closing it was nice to see the staff remaining helpful and pleasant with jobs on the line.

Review 112:The twin Beds - worst I have slept in - Today these beds should be disposed of ! bathroom in need of maintenance, & new shower curtain ! It smelt appalling

Review 113:Location - close to Warwick castle, numerous restaurants

Review 114:The room we were in neded a revamp. We found as we checked out that the hotel was going to be turned into flats, The reason why the rooms needed revamping.

Review 115:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was good. Lots to see in Warwick

Review 116:It's a shame there was no food on offer apart from breakfast, having the option of eating in house rather than having to go out of the hotel would have been nice.

Review 117:The service from the reception staff was brilliant, very friendly and extremely helpful. Great location and rates were very competitive. A beautiful hotel in the reception area but the room I had although it was very comfortable could benefit greatly from an update in the decor. Having said that the unexpected four poster bed room was a nice surprise.

Review 118:Don't expect anything luxurious definitely needs a refurbishment as its our room was amusingly wonky and old and peeling (although apparently it's closing down) but had everything we needed so still glad we chose it. Staff do what they can with what they've got - sheets clean, rooms cleaned, clean kettle etc. My advice is make sure you turn the tap for four whole rotations til it comes on.

Review 119:Best price at the time. Excellent location. Free parking. Had more facilities in the room than a lot of places eg ironing board, ancient trouser press! Amusingly wonky old room.

Review 120:Room was dingy and in need of tlc especially the bathroom. No hairdryer or remote comtrol initially. TV not working - all replaced but had limited channels. Room was cold - heating not on in October!!!! Asked for heating to be switched on but never happened. No hot water in shower. Wi-fi signal in room not sufficient for business purposes.

Review 121:Staff tried to help

Review 122:Run down room and bathroom. No telephone and loo difficult to flush. TV temperamental

Review 123:Pleasant staff and well written information. Comfortable beds.

Review 124:Curtain fulling off. Heating didn't work. No hot water. Bit leak in ceiling. No room to move in the room. Like a maze to find our room with no help of where we was going. When we complained they said nothing they can do as closing down in January.

Review 125:Not a lot really. Room very small and very dirty

Review 126:The rooms were dirty, sockets didn't work, there was damp in the bathroom, floors were uneven

Review 127:The best thing about the hotel was my friends were there too

Review 128:Great location near the centre of Warwick, close to the castle, shops and restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff, let me stay in the same room despite the bookings being separate and let me leave luggage for the day.

Review 129:Pretty much everything! The bed in the room was clean but everything else was falling apart, stained etc. The bar was disgustingly expensive in the function room considering it looked like more like a working mans club than the likes of somewhere worth expensive drinks - Hilton, Marriott etc. Can see why it is being re-developed next year into apartments.

Review 130:The location in the centre of warwick was great.

Review 131:The mattresses were terrible and need replacing immediately. Also as we arrived late it would have been nice if we could have got a sandwich or something to eat.

Review 132:The location was great and the staff very helpful. The breakfast was very nice, plentiful and varied

Review 133:No hot water for shower when arrived, and same in the Am when checking out to go back to work, very disappointed. Bathroom dirty floor and carpet in room looked dirty / stained

Review 134:Cold shower, did mention it to the staff at the hotel but for the two nights stay there was not any hot water from either the shower or the sink. Hotel was dirty and shabby and in need to restoration glad we didn't have breakfast there just a shame as the location is key but the hotel is out of date. Fixtures loose screws exposed and the lift looked like it was about to fall apart on you, not at all comforting when we needed it to reach our room all in all I would only come here if there was no other available rooms elsewhere and you didn't plan on spending much more than an hour in the hotel once you were awake as the walls are paper thin.. Expect to be woken go by your fellow neighbors... Poor stay and hotel avoid if you can..... Sorry

Review 135:The location was less than a mile from the castle, the purpose of our trip was our anniversary and to visit the town.

Review 136:Unfortunately, the hotel is part of Warwick's history and its age and the plans for its future show. It is very tired and as we understand, it is expected to be redeveloped into apartments in January 2016. Therefore no money has been spent on the hotel for a few years and it is unlikely that any more money would be spent soon. However, if you want a hotel that is in central Warwick, at a reasonable price, this is the place to choose. One piece of advice is - Do not accept the first room you are allocated. Our first room had a 20 year old TV and tired fittings. When we complained, we were allocated a much more modern room with a flat screen TV. So, nothing is likely to change between late 2015 and early 2016, but if you want a central location and don't mind complaining at check-in, you could get a bargain..

Review 137:The location and parking are fantastic. It is in the centre of Warwick, no more than a 5 minute from Warwick Castle or the town centre. The hotel is a real historic part of Warwick in its own right.

Review 138:Place is falling down- wall paper hanging from the walls, Mould on windows, dead flies. Unable to shower or have a bath as no hot water. Brown water from hot tap. Was staying for a week but walked out after 2 nights. How has this place got 3 stars? Maybe the hotel inspector has a white stick?

Review 139:The condition of the rooms were the worst we have ever stayed in. We would have left on arrival, but unfortunately via yourselves we had paid in advance and could not get a refund to go anywhere else.

Review 140:The only good point was the breakfast

Review 141:Alas the corridor next to mine stinks like someone tried some failed DIY proctological experiment after letting a skunk climb into his bottom-cavern, die, and the rot down for a month - retch-inducing nearby, but luckily not in my room. That said - no hot water in the shower; reception claimed it can take "up to 15 minutes for the hot water to come through, old pipes you know" - 15 minutes, really!

Review 142:Second time here - this time the room has no sentient mould to talk to and does not appear to reek in anyway - yay! Infinitely better than the Park House Guest House.
