Reviews for Hôtel La Réserve

Review 1:We didn't think the restaurant food was good value for money. The breakfast was rather confused... couldn't find the coffee cups or coffee pots...only tea pots which were cold and the tea water was luke warm. The cooked food was also cold .Heated plates would have helped.

Review 2:Plenty of staff ,always very helpful. Pool very good...area always very clean. Plenty of parking space. A lovely hotel.

Review 3:We had a garden room (No 40) which had a 'private' patio area with sun loungers. This area was smaller than all the other similar rooms (but cost the same price). The patio area was surrounded by bushes and trees so it was in shade almost all day (sunny early morning only). The sun loungers were very old and uncomfortable with ill fitting cushions (I think for the price charged for the room the hotel could afford to buy new loungers). Food prices were extortionate! I have to stress we didn't eat at the hotel at all so cannot comment on the quality. The prices put us off! €17 for breakfast (1 hot & 1 cold drink, 1 bread, jam and 1 pastry) €2 extra for suppliments (yoghurt, fruit or cereal). We got the same deal in the local town for about €6! Evening meals in the al a carte restaurant were also very expensive with a very limited menu. Again we ventured in to the town instead and ate fabulous food at a fraction of the price and all were excellent. We were also located next to a conference room which for 3 days of our week long stay disturbed us with noise in the mornings. The delegates accessed the hotel grounds through patio doors next to our 'private' patio - which embarrassed us and them while we sat on the loungers in our pyjamas and robes! The assistant manager did apologise for this and said the conference room door should have been locked and delegates using an alternative access route. The mini bar was stocked with a range of drinks as well as chocolate & crisps - all at ridiculous prices! A small toblerone was €4 as was a tiny tub of pringles (full size pringles in super market is €2.50). Needless to say we didn't have any but bought our own and used the fridge.

Review 4:The hotel is located in a magical spot with stunning views over the Atlantic ocean. Just a 15 minute walk in to the St Jean de Luz along the coastal path with fabulous views. The hotel room was comfortable with air con, mini fridge, complementary robe, slippers, pool towels, as well as the usual toiletries. The room was cleaned and made up every day to very high standards (even tidying our belongings). The infinity pool area is great set in beautiful gardens. The garden rooms have a patio area that enable guests to lounge in private and access the garden and pool area directly from their room.

Review 5:Reception staff brilliant (helpful, professional and friendly) but Restaurant staff not up to the same standard. Spa would be a great addition.

Review 6:Pool, views, setting, gardens, balcony

Review 7:none

Review 8:Everything, the staff were pleasant. I enjoyed receiving an email before our stay about the parking and need to reserve a table in the restaurant. The room was great, the views are lovely. The food in the restaurant was incredibly good, a different way of cooking with various ingredients...the definition of haute cuisine.

Review 9:Breakfast was a bit shambolic, no organisation, lots of items missing, food and bowls etc. staff seemed very stressed. Door to kitchen from restaurant had terribly loud squeak, which was very annoying when trying to have a romantic meal. Room was not as good as others stayed in at same price. It was a bit small.

Review 10:Evening meal was great, pool was lovely and great views

Review 11:It is a little expensive, especially the evening meal, which has a limited menu. However, what was available was beautifully presented, well cooked and served on a wonderful terrace overlooking the gardens and sea.

Review 12:The hotel is in a stunning location. It has kerb appeal, fantastic gardens and is within walking distance of Saint Jean de Luz. It is also on the coast path so wonderful walks from the door!

Review 13:The cost was high but this was to be expected in this class of hotel. A tea/coffee making facility in the rom would have been expected.

Review 14:Location was very good as not too far from town-a pleasant walk-but far enough away as to be peaceful and quiet. The facilities were excellent and staff very attentive.

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:The room was excellent and the restaurant attached was top notch. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again!

Review 17:Very prcey drinks (2 capuccinos 11 euro!) Very average local wine 40 euro Young trainee staff no sommelier given the prices Taxis a nightmare difficult to get back there from St Jean de Luz

Review 18:Superb chef, truly fantastic food Beautiful gardens and pool

Review 19:Didn't get a room with a sea view, but it's not a problem. Weren't lucky with the weather to sit outside and enjoy the garden and the pool.

Review 20:Location is great! Walking distance to the centre of the city. Delicious restaurant Kaiku was recommended by hotel staff and it was very good (due to hotel restaurant was closed) Although restaurant in the hotel was realy nice another day!

Review 21:We were not told that there was a wedding on sat night so restaurant was closed. Room not very impressive considering the price. Restaurant also closed sun and mon.

Review 22:View and infinity pool but relies on good weather as nothing to do in hotel when weather bad as it was when we stayed.

Review 23:the restaurent was mediocre, don't get me wrong, the food was quite edible, but we ate much better at Le kaiku in the town.

Review 24:the footpath that leads down to St Jean de Luz and the otherway, a perfect way to watch the waves crashing onto the rocks

Review 25:Drinks and breakfast somewhat over-priced.

Review 26:Position (easy walk into St J d L with wonderful views en route). Friendly, professional staff; comfort; pool. Fantastic meal in restaurant.

Review 27:Disappointed that the restaurant was closed on Sunday for dinner in the off-peak season.

Review 28:Location, location, location! The pool in its cliff top setting surrounded by beautiful gardens and the sumptuous breakfast.

Review 29:Wifi is not really open, you need to reconnect every time you need it. The absence of a fitness room is a minus for a long stay. To make it ideal, I would suggest replacing the plexi Kelloggs tubes with true cereals.

Review 30:Superb location, overseeing the ocean, cleanliness of the premises, very professional and helpful staff, 15' walk from the city center, always alongside the sea. Add a very talented and creative cook and the place gets quite close to paradise.

Review 31:A charming hotel in a stunning position overlooking the coast. Lovely room with useful fridge and excellent shower room and separate toilet. Fabulous dinner from unusual ingredients.

Review 32:Everything! The setting is ideal, and every detail is perfect. The food is amazing. The concierge recommended local restaurants where we ate the fresh fish with the locals.

Review 33:Breakfast was extra on top of an expensive room rate and layout of food in the breakfast room was not optimal, for instance had to dig around in a cupboard for jam. Also coffee was serve yourself in small pots but nobody mentioned this until after we had asked a waitress for coffee twice. Not the best.

Review 34:Lovely location, nice room with balcony and sea view. Lovely facilities, pool etc.

Review 35:Wifi-access should be improved (it often gets lost), no toilet at the pool area, no special egg dishes like omelett or pan fried for breakfast, also lack of tomates for breakfast.

Review 36:The view, gardens and sourroundings excellent. Easy access to beaches of the city. Infinity pool with view to ocean. Very good kitchen, Gourmet Restaurant Ilura, very friendly staff. Professional coffee machine for breakfast.

Review 37:If anything - it is quite pricy, so two days are probably enough for most people.

Review 38:The hotel is beautifully located on the cliffs just a short walk from the city. The garden is fantastic and the pool area gives a luxury feeling. the view is wonderful. The restaurant in the hotel served superb food and we enjoyed our stay.

Review 39:Bedroom quite small for a premium room. Bed on the firm side. A lot of business meetings /conferences going on at the Hotel----the behaviour of some of the delegates was antisocial. We were awoken on two mornings at about 2.00am with delegates gathering in the gardens for loud conversations and "smokes". Their behaviour at breakfast was certainly not polite.

Review 40:Excellent position and grounds. Very high quality food and wine list. Secure parking. Easy walk to and from St. Jean de Luz. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 41:Impossible to find without a GPS, and far from "civilisation". very pretentious and fake rooms very small staff not well trained for that industry Had to cancel my stay

Review 42:Location, staff, service, views, facilities... everything was first class. It is a very special place.

Review 43:That we can have our dogs with us on this fantastic hotel.

Review 44:The location is amazing, the view from the balcony is superb, friendly with pets we enjoyed staying at La Reserve

Review 45:service for meals was very slow

Review 46:the view + location + comfort

Review 47:Peaceful location with easy access via coastal path to St Jean Attractive grounds and stunning scenery. Excellent restaurant and rooms

Review 48:The piano needed tuning!

Review 49:The location was excellent as was the food. Eating out on the terrace was lovely too. Staff polite and room and everywhere was clean .

Review 50:N/a

Review 51:Location & friendly staff

Review 52:Small room and small car park.

Review 53:Dinner in the restaurant was superb.

Review 54:stunning location and such an easy walk into the town, or lovely walks along the coast to the beaches. Also easy to go to San Sebastian!

Review 55:Dinner on the one night we stayed in seemed pricey, and not good value for money

Review 56:Excellent welcome

Review 57:being away from the business of the Old Town but close enough to walk along the promenade to restaurants, beach, shops

Review 58:Nothing.

Review 59:Wow! Everything

Review 60:Great pool, fabulous views of coastline.

Review 61:Not being told in advance that restaurant would already be fully booked on evening of arrival.

Review 62:Location, pool and outdoor dining.

Review 63:Most expensive coffee we had in France in two weeks

Review 64:Lovely meal in restaurant

Review 65:Pleasant place. Wonderful restaurant. Pleasant and helpful staff

Review 66:Location was excellent and staff very friendly. Breakfast was good

Review 67:Breakfast just too expensive @ 16EUR.

Review 68:The service at dinner was slow & the food very expensive.

Review 69:Lovely hotel with a nice walk to St Jean Da Luz

Review 70:nothing

Review 71:everything

Review 72:Felt so relaxed in a beautiful Garden and unbeatable views.

Review 73:Everything

Review 74:garden, pool and views, plus easy access to town

Review 75:service quality in the restaurant could be more customer oriented

Review 76:Location is perfect

Review 77:There were no washroom facilities at the pool and the poolside bar was not always open

Review 78:Everything about the hotel made you enjoy ou holiday

Review 79:Staff were very helpful and informative. The hotel inside and outside was very clean and tidy. A lovely walk along the coast into town.

Review 80:The grounds are lovely, views gorgeous the restaurant was amazing, some of the nicest food we have eaten while travelling

Review 81:Postage stamp size of rooms

Review 82:Location

Review 83:Peace, walking distance from town, breakfast

Review 84:We had some difficulties to find our way to the hotel. The road signs could be improved.

Review 85:Bar prices were expensive to the point of restrictive

Review 86:Food was good

Review 87:location swimming pool dining outside

Review 88:Walk to town was beautiful, but a bit far. Restaurant prices were very high.

Review 89:The location right on the coast, with beautiful views, lovely grounds and swimming pool. The rooms are very nice and the service is excellent!

Review 90:The staff in the dining room were poor. (a lady even poured claret into my desert wine) I thought that the menu was not extensive.

Review 91:The staff in reception were excellent, also a gentleman in the bar.

Review 92:Sports facilities would need upgrade, TV contract for World Cup games is obligation for hotel of this standard, too high room fares despite great location.

Review 93:Perfect location, great views, professional staff, excellent restaurant, superb pool.

Review 94:Staff can be arrogant. At the frontdesk the incoming emails and callsare more important then the guests. Staff in the restaurant is excellent

Review 95:Location and view are perfect. One of the nicest swimmingpools I know

Review 96:The room was Very small. No way to stay longer than two days. A view over the car park. The hotel staff were very casual we sat in the lobby for an hour without being offered anything. Breakfast was mediocre for the price (17 Euro). All in all poor service.

Review 97:The location of the hotel . Easy to walk into town. Nice views .

Review 98:Nothing relevant. A bit pricey...

Review 99:View to the sea, beautifull gardens, quiet, good restaurant, personel helpfull and friendly as well as flexible, room confortable with side sea view, access to the beach and to the St. jean de Luz bay is only 5 minutes walking mostly on pedestrian area. We had a wonderfull time, wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 100:A shaded quiet area in the garden would be a good addition. There is plenty of space but not everyone wants to sit round the pool which is usually noisy with children. A sepoarate pool for adults would be even better. They have the space. Even better would be to make direct access to the sea but I believe the weather is often rough.

Review 101:Lovely position on top of the headland above the ocean. Food was a treat. Service at front desk helpful. Rooms with balcony and sea view are most desirable and worth booking. Close proximity to town. We enjoyed it.

Review 102:The hotel is beautifully decorated, with very nice gardens ( thehydrangeas are huge!) and wonderful views. We enjoyed the easy walk ontotown and a short walk and small picnic in the opposite direction. Thestaff are very professional, helpful and friendly. We particularlyappreciated the attention we received by staff at reception, in therestaurant and in the bar. The food in the restaurant was also a realhighlight for us - delicious and beautifully presented. My husbandappreciated his little birthday surprise of an additional desert.

Review 103:Staff not very welcoming. Restaurant was closed on Sunday evening and I had to find a restaurant from Michelin Guide. Dining room for breakfast more like a Travel Lodge than a 4* hotel. Brdroom nice but very small.

Review 104:Wonderful pool. Excellent views.

Review 105:the lack of clear instructions about the use of the safe.

Review 106:we liked the excellent food, superb breakfasts. The heated infinity swimming pool and the cliff top location with lovely views. Also the large grounds.

Review 107:Bedroom and bathroom lacking charm, had a definite corporate feel withdispenser soap and shampoo, plastic bath, we believe the temperature ofhot water was set at 38 for energy saving. I understand we were upgradedto a room with a view for which we were thankful. The rate which isexclusive of breakfast or free anything!!! Does not represent good valuein winter when you cannot use the pool or tennis court.

Review 108:We liked the view on the garden and the ocean ,loved the deco of thefoyer , the staff was very friendly but after our stay in San Sebastianthe night before we could not help but being disappointed.

Review 109:Inexperienced staff in dining room takes away the edge that the food has
