Reviews for The New Court Hotel

Review 1:Bathroom not finished off properly, very bad skirting board. door lock troublesome. These small things make the difference between good and great. oh and the shower tray needed washing out ,

Review 2:Lovely staff, food was great, room comfortable, Great effort has been made.

Review 3:Room and en suite bathroom were a little small.

Review 4:Clean and everything was there as described on-line. Dinner and full welsh/english Breakfast were also tasty and good value for money.

Review 5:Small & friendly. Good beer and excellent food. Our room was lovely, everything spotlessly clean, with a very comfy bed. Toiletries were provided, and there was also a very well stocked hospitality tray. Breakfast was gorgeous, one of the best cooked breakfast I have tasted for some time.

Review 6:Heating in the bedroom was not good. One radiator which never got beyond lukewarm on a cold night. I would advise the hotel to place extra heating, such as a convector electric radiator or fan heater in the room. The bar and restaurant were ay a very nicde temperature.

Review 7:Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Good dining venue

Review 8:We had a problem with no hot water for showers which took ages to resolve. The New Court Inn sign was attached to the external wall of our room. It was windy and the rusty hinges swinging in the wind kept us awake all night. The rooms need a bit of TLC.

Review 9:The staff were friendly and helpful

Review 10:There was nothing to complain about

Review 11:Really enjoyed my stay at the New Court. Friendly staff could not do enough to ensure I had a great stay. Would definitely go back again if in the area, even for just a drink and the good bar conversation !

Review 12:Clare and her team treated us like royalty. Our flight was delayed which meant we didn't arrive until late and there were sandwiches and a personal welcome note in our room. Lovely touches in the room and the breakfast was delicious

Review 13:Bar very busy and music night on wednesday. Although once in own room very little background sound could be heard from the bar.

Review 14:Relaxed atmosphere. Good food. Slept very well.

Review 15:Fire alarm at 6am no staff on premises. Eventually contacted staff. Alarm again during breakfast. Apparently longstanding malfunction.

Review 16:Bed room clean and. Comfortable

Review 17:The one thing that let the stay down was that the bedroom carpet hadn't been hoovered. Everything else was fairly clean.

Review 18:Breakfast cooked by the lady serving was FABULOUS! Couldn't fault breakfast at all.

Review 19:A bit noisy as we were in a room at the front of the pub with the window open but nothing major. I think I'm just a light sleeper because my husband heard nothing.

Review 20:The breakfast was delicious. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. The room was nice and clean.

Review 21:I didn't spend a long enough time there

Review 22:I loved the comfort and feel as soon as you walked in to the place. The rooms weren't big but they were well equipped and the bed was so comfortable. Everything was nipping clean - Plus Usk is a beautiful place to walk around

Review 23:the staff are really helpful the food is nice room perfect cider propper might stay tonight acctually my 26th wedding anneversary peace and tranquility

Review 24:The Wifi router hadn't been set up, so when I opened my browser it welcomed me to BT (?!) and asked me to login.

Review 25:Staff (2 ladies in particular) were absolutely fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.

Review 26:Bed was worn, room was v.small even for just 1 night. Bar area was tired-looking rather than quaint.

Review 27:Friendly staff, nice town with other facilities like the prison across the road...

Review 28:There is absolutely nothing to dislike about staying here.

Review 29:Simply a perfect place to stay. The food, bedroom and staff were amazing. Looking forward to returning.

Review 30:The room was not well presented, cabling was not concealed. towel rail in bathroom coming off the wall. room very cramped. shower very weak. window in bedroom could only opened from the bottom and needed to be propped up to stay open. Exterior of windows not clean

Review 31:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 32:Bed was abut hard hard and the water was not warm in the evening.

Review 33:Friendly welcoming staff who let us book in early to our room which was very handy as we had to go off to Cardiff for an event. The room was fine and the bed although hard, did have plenty of lovely pillows. The shower was my a power shower and in the evening the water wasn't hot but in the morning it was very hot. The English breakfast was tasty and well cooked with lots of items to choose from.

Review 34:warm friendly welcome spotlessly clean lovely fresh room Alisons breakfast and service excellent real ales and great pub atmostphere Would definitely recommend easy parking right outside

Review 35:If you put mojito on the drinks menue make sure you know how to mix it and what it's ingredient are staff had no idea

Review 36:The chef (food) was excellent

Review 37:Clean and comfortable room, friendly staff, just what was needed for a one night stay while attending a wedding. we didn't use the bar but it looked cosy and welcoming.

Review 38:There is no private parking but ample space on the road in front of the hotel. The shower room could do with those small showergel/shampoo bottles - room price should cover that bit of extra luxury I'd say.

Review 39:Great room with well kitted out shower room and very nice shower head. Proper massive towel as well as others available. Bed was really comfortable and breakfast was excellent.

Review 40:Not a bad experience, I had a lovely starter of three scallops, they were beautifully done, but two would be fine for a starter, especially with black pudding and ham. Also the walls were a little grubby next to the dining tables - easily fixed and there was a loose towel rail in the ensuite. Apologies for being so fussy, but I have been a professional cleaner and I have looked after a lot of public buildings. Standards have to be maintained.

Review 41:Room was comfortable and looked newly refurbished. Batteries replaced immediately in tv remote control. Plenty of towels. Good quality room and lovely people. Would stay again and would recommend definitely.

Review 42:Cosy bed, lovely ensuite great location and easy to find. Parked in the street nearby. Breakfast was cooked fresh and to a very high standard. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 43:the light outside our bedroom window was slightly annoying

Review 44:the staff, food, service, room, surrounding area, alcohol selection, friendly owners (whom we had a good chat with) professionalism, location, closeness to other restaurants and bars

Review 45:Evening meal was a rather long time in arriving- 40 min plus- but was well worth it once it was served. Door to room was awkward to lock and secure. Lighting outside room door was inadequate.( Sensor plug in night light)

Review 46:Attentive and welcoming Staff,(Front of House) Dined and had Breakfast that was made to a great standard. Accommodation was clean. Lovely Welsh Slate in new refurb Bathroom.Free WiFi- no probe accessing.

Review 47:No free wi-fi

Review 48:The room was very comfortable and very clean, the staff couldn't do enough for us, the food was delicious, smart tv in the room with netflix.

Review 49:We had room 1. Comfy and clean, but way too small for a couple. Wardrobe good size but a couple of drawers would have been good. Plug sockets awful, only one suitable, and hairdryer then doesnt reach mirror. Expected toiletries for 4 star, but were none. Fresh towels daily but no cleaning.

Review 50:The bar in the New Court had an excellent choice of ales. Cosy fire, comfy sofa,s (tho you risk a whiplash injury if u collapse into them as i did!)very welcoming staff. Bed comfy, good breakfast. Would have liked to try the evening menu but no time this visit. Family had booked kings head pub in usk for a meal. Excellent food , everyone very happy! Very good value for money.

Review 51:The slightly out-of-town-centre location on a quiet road in an historic building. The welcome of the staff. The pleasant en suite room and comfy bed. A fine range of real ales and cider. An unpretentious pub/hotel which has only recently reopened after two years' closure and under new owners, with further work apparently to be done. Our visit was brief (a family reunion) and we didn't get the chance to sample the menu, or the beer this time. Epic scrambled eggs though!

Review 52:Great establishment. Excellent beers and cider. Peaceful garden. Bedrooms are being refurbished, ours was to a very high standard. Great breakfast, freshly cooked. Not a slick, posh hotel, just a very friendly and pleasant inn.

Review 53:Pleasant staff and all I wanted on my birthday couple of pints of scrumpy nice food and a good night sleep bed was lush nice breakfast to will do again

Review 54:Nothing to dislike. Our only whinge was the quality of one fish meal (see above) and that complaint was rapidly dealt with to our complete satisfaction. Everything else was very good.

Review 55:We originally planned to stay in, or very close to, Chepstow but there was a special event in the area that would have meant moving part way through our stay. To avoid that inconvenience we expanded our search area and chanced upon the New Court in Usk which was able to accommodate us for the required 11 nights. The hotel is situated centrally in a generally quiet area about 500 yards from the main road running through the town. The room was not particularly large (constrained by the building's age and listed status) but big enough to be comfortable and to contain a large and comfortable bed: we slept very well. Storage space was a bit limited for a stay of eleven nights but would be more than enough for shorter stays. (The hotel offers (free) facilities for storage of suitcases but we didn't bother and managed well enough with cases in the room). The recently refurbished en-suite shower room was excellently tiled and well fitted with non-slip flooring, modern sanitaryware, an excellent shower, shelf space and illuminated mirror for make-up/shaving.On several days we took the (included) hotel breakfast which offered a variety of cereals, "full English" and fresh fruit. On a number of occasions we appeared later than the specified times but the staff cheerfully provided the normal fare. We also dined in the restaurant several times and the food was generally of excellent quality and well cooked. On the one occasion we felt a dish was sub-standard (over-cooked and dry fried fish) the problem was swiftly and satisfactorily resolved. On other occasions the fish was excellent. The pub bars offer a wide range of real ales and ciders along with all the usual spirits and all at reasonable prices.

Review 56:The lack of attention to detail. On my welcome tray was the usual facilities but one packet of biscuits had already been opened and one biscuit missing. The tray needed wiping. There is a steel holder for toilet rolls which was incredibly dusty. The food is very good but we could not have fish because the freezer had broken down. The first morning there was no milk so the chef had to go to the shop! Meanwhile i just looked at my cereal for half an hour until he was back. No yogurt nor brown bread appeared at all but was on the menu.Fruit was on offer but sat languishing in a bowl on top of a china cabinet. Unappetising. Butter or I am sure it was a type of 'spread' was served in a cup as was the sugar. The second morning the same cup of spread appeared but by now it was all smeared around the cup. The toaster flex does not reach the socket so a roll of extension is required. This sat on a chair. As I said the staff are exceedingly good and friendly but in the garden I ordered a glass of wine and my cousin ordered a pot of tea. We waited until the young waiter had finished his cigarette before he brought these to us. Access to the bedrooms is under review I understand but while I was there I had to go upstairs via the kitchen area. As I was travelling alone I paid the room rate which for two nights was £138.00. There are currently two rooms with three more being renovated. The room I was in is very small and the king size bed took up most of the floor space. I am not sure what market the proprietor is targeting. The staff need guidance to do better - much better! They are a wonderful team but appeared to be making it up as they went along.

Review 57:The bed and linens are truly wonderful. The new shower room is impressive but is an accident waiting to happen with two steps up and down to get to the shower. The towel rail acts like a grab rail and consequently was loose. The food was very good.
