Reviews for The Newbridge on Usk

Review 1:Second visit on 9th September 9 ( Room 4 I think ) the bed was so uncomfortable ! We also found two cockroaches on our return to the room, sorry to report this

Review 2:Lovely peaceful setting. Excellent evening meal on first visit and bar nibbles on our return journey. The staff ,without exception ,were cheerful, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks for directions to the M4!!

Review 3:Breakfast staff were very poor had to clear our own plates 2of the 3 mornings that we were there got my order wrong asked for poached eggs and received boiled. Our room smelled fusty but comfortable.Air con was a large fan in the room.

Review 4:The quality of the food at breakfast was good and all staff were friendly and helpful, very nice setting at the side of the river.

Review 5:the breakfast could be better. I'm vegetarian so veggie sausages would be lovely. I do ask for no garlic and herbs on my tomatoes as that's a step too far first thing in the morning.

Review 6:All of it - stayed there 8 times this year so far with work.

Review 7:If you stay on business and want to use wifi forget it in the rooms it kept dropping out and was unreliable - also had dinner with seafood platter and had stomach cramps and tummy trouble all night possibly due to the food eaten here- the hotel seemed disinterested and said well no one else complained! I have reported them to the food standards agency

Review 8:A wonderful location

Review 9:Chef needs a lesson in how to cook eggs! Boiled eggs with soldiers, the eggs were practially hard boiled. Poached eggs, were so runny the egg white was still see through. Booked a double room, but had a twin with the beds zipped together. They insisted it's the same, but it's not, there's still an uncomfortable ridge in the middle. The free standing bath is a bit pretentious, and pointless as you can't walk round it. No mini bar/fridge in the rooms.

Review 10:Beautiful setting, accommodation has some nice touches and the housekeeping service was excellent. Nice bar and restaurant, friendly, helpful staff. Great to have use of the spa facilities up on the Celtic Manor main resort. Not a 5* though, more of a 4+

Review 11:Disappointing breakfast - considering it has won awards. Eggs were too salty and sausages overdone. Lacked choice of eg fruit. Dinner was ok but pricy and again too much salt.

Review 12:Good room - everything we needed. Comfy bed Lovely staff - helpful, friendly - couldn't have been nicer. Access to celtic manor spa.

Review 13:The only thing we found let down with was food and drink seemed expensive. My wife and I ate at the celtic manor on second night and was disappointed with the meal

Review 14:The short break was a lovely experience and one which I would like to repeat. The location and accommodation was lovely,as was the staff

Review 15:Outside door to room could do with a coat of paint looked tired. Bathroom extractor did not work, hot tap was lose as was toilet role holder minor problems but need attending to. Could not open window reported this to hotel. None of the points found would stop us going back

Review 16:Size of room and bath room. Excellent restaurant and location with great views over river

Review 17:Our room was excrptionally hot so we needed the fan on all night. Interesting menu with unusual combinations. Each component delicious, not sure they always worked together. Nicely presented, pleasant staff.

Review 18:Location, staff and room

Review 19:Couldn't turn bathroom fan off, whirred all night. Noisy 1 am clumping feet from people in the room above. No plugs where you need them. Didn't know there was no iron till too late. Only one bedside light.

Review 20:Sitting by the river with a drink. Taking breakfast on a sunny terrace. Delicious breakfast. Massive bed. Gorgeous Elemis toiletries. Great to have a real radio. Perfect and generous selection of REAL coffee and good tea and herbal teas. Despite the negative issues, it was a lovely stay and the staff had genuine social skills: nice folk. Great to have ease of access to Celtic Manor. Excellent tourist info from the resort shuttle driver who gave us great tips for things to see.

Review 21:It is very much a restaurant with rooms. Rooms in a car park! Room 4 on the ground floor of the slightly run down faces the restaurant door and should be avoided. It was hot and stuffy and the only window is full length and opened at the bottom. We ended up crawling on our hands and knees trying to secure it. The roll top bath looked great but wobbled, we had to wedge it with cardboard under one foot. The hot tap swiveled round and round when turned. I suspect not many people had used it, just like the look. The staff in the restaurant were lovely but We felt the whole set-up was very corporate and not what we expected. When I told the man on reception about the room (which also had a half drunk bottle of coke in it when we arrived) he just said, oh dear, enjoy the rest of your weekend. I suspect the business from the spa ( there was a large hen party arriving for the restaurant when we did) means they do not need to try too hard. A shame and will not go back again.

Review 22:The food and service in the restaurant was very good. The venison with pumpkin puree and red cabbage was delicious.

Review 47:Wonderful location pleasant staff excellent service

Review 48:everything was excellent: staff, food, situation, room, facilities

Review 49:Limited fresh fruit at breakfast, should have offered more summer fruit options Bed could have been more comfortable

Review 50:Beautiful location Good food Friendly staff very helpful

Review 51:The room was incredibly hot even though there was a fan provided. The huge glass panel in the stairway outside the room provided a greenhouse effect. A bonus in winter but not in June.

Review 52:Good attention to detail.

Review 53:Too many young, inexperienced and slightly unsure staff, it reminded me of when I was doing my HCIMA at training college! Little or no rapport with customers at the bar, staff chatting amongst themselves. The whole Experience was efficiently transactional rather than friendly, warm and welcoming Food over fussy and not very good value for money... I stay in similar boutique hotels 4 nights per week so have a good sense of the price / quality and value range.

Review 54:Room excellent Liked the layout of the bar and restaurant Outside area lovely

Review 55:steep slope going up to bedroom area. paintwork needs refurbishing

Review 56:the area it was very quiet necessary as we live in country and noise disturbs us at night breakfasts were excellent. staff were very good with speedy service will stay there again

Review 57:I think the menu is overpriced ? fillet steak £35 that's a little on the high side.

Review 58:The location is very peaceful, and the rooms are nice

Review 59:It provided all that I required - comfortable with a good restaurant

Review 60:Slats in bed under mattress had fallen which made the experience slighty uncomfortable
