Reviews for Best Western Heronston Hotel & Spa

Review 1:It was only by chance that when I asked at the bar for a menu for the 7pm opening of restaurant that I was told that there would be no food service at all due to a wedding reception and NYE gala. If I had turned up at restaurant at 7 for food to be told then that there was no service, I would have been extremely annoyed.

Review 2:The pool area was dimly lit, so was like night swimming. Very relaxing

Review 3:Pointless having a shower as it doesn't work , taps were back tofront hot was cold cold was hot , beds were made out of stone , longflight of stairs to our 1* room next time il sleep in the car

Review 4:The dinner meal was not enjoyable. The lamb was tough and the strawberry torte was tasteless. Main course dishes were plated and badly presented. Breakfast was good.

Review 5:Very pet friendly. Room complete with dog bed and water bowl.

Review 6:The events rooms were full most of the weekend and very noisy as a result, great place to stay if you are attending an event at this hotel.

Review 7:Superior bedroom was superb, although looking out the window to nothing exciting (room 47). Leisure facilities were really great.

Review 8:The majority of the hotel was a bit dated, you would say it's part of the older Best Western collection.

Review 9:Flexibility of staff, changing our room after being placed in a smoking room. Spa was also OK, and breakfast was good!

Review 10:Smell of chlorine throughout the bed, mattresses seemed a bit thin.

Review 11:Staff were friendly ... Restaurant service and food was excellent. Bar person was very friendly.

Review 12:bedrooms are very tired, didn't feel like a night away as the the décor is dated. Beds aren't comfy. wont be returning , not worth the money

Review 13:breakfast was nice

Review 14:Although very clean and well looked after, the hotel is starting to show its age.

Review 15:Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and the surrounding area. All the facilities you would expect of a hotel of this type.

Review 16:Poor shower facilities. Took water a long time to warm up. Water pressure very poor.

Review 17:Good location for purpose of visit. Enjoyed breakfast/dining facilities.

Review 18:Disgusting mark on bed sheet which I only discovered at midnight as I got into bed. I told reception next day and had an average apology. If that had been one of my customers telling me they had found pooh on their sheet, I'd have been mortified. Biscuit in room out of date. loo seat was wobbly. Sink was loose.

Review 19:Bar and restaurant staff were excellent. Nothing too much trouble. Evening meal in restaurant delicious. Nice looking room.

Review 20:The bedrooms need a little TLC. The bath wobbled when standing in the shower. There were areas in the bathroom that needed a tough clean or bleach. At breakfast there was a replenishment of the sausages but unfortunately they were stone cold. English Breakfast selection was limited e.g. only fried eggs available. It was very busy as a Rugby World Cup weekend but the staff were not ensuring that the breakfast items were replenished e.g. the milk for hot drinks and cereals had run out and a guest had to go to ask for more. The same happened with the orange juice.

Review 21:Waiting time in the restaurant was too long, during dinner and breakfast. Although staff did apologise.

Review 22:The room was a superior room, and was really comfortable and made the stay enjoyable. All staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 23:Noise in evening at the back of hotel. Also you could hear trains up until late in the evening.

Review 24:Pool - Leisure facilities all very good. Staff friendly obviously some very new as they needed more training.

Review 25:Hotel is looking tired. Beds need replacing, especially mattrasses , lack of support and could feel springs etc

Review 26:Staff were friendly, helpful, polite and professional.

Review 27:we had a very bad experience we had a room service meal which was horrible we left it outside our room it was still there at 1 o'clock the following day, there was a smell of paint as the hotel was being painted, there was a smell of people smoking, and there was a strong smell of cannabis by someone smoking it on the car park under our window, there was no water pressure, making it impossible to have a shower, and to flush the toilet, we I went to check out my son was accused of smoking in his room I explaned my did not and has never smoked in his life, this all took place in front of other guests which was very embarrassing and very stressful for me and my family, I was told I would have to pay £100 fine by the receptionist I could go on and on but there's no point, it cost me £400 which I think I should be refunded or at least half, all in all it was stressful stay,

Review 28:nothing

Review 29:nothing negative to say

Review 30:stayed only for one night for professional course in this hotel; good venue with swimming pool, sauna and steam room; twin room on the 1st floor - basically comfortable and clean; had a good evening meal in the restaurant - tasty and fairly priced; bar area was well used by the visitors watching rugby; breakfast had good choice and served well; catering of the course, also provided by the hotel, was run well with good lunch and hot drinks; location: not too far from the center, in quiet area; taxi ride from the railway station takes 7-10 min

Review 31:Wake up call requested but no one called. Shower had a very small head and took a long time to heat up. Water jet very limp. Didn't enjoy the shower at all. A friend who stayed in the same hotel in another room also had the same problem.

Review 32:Reception staff were polite and helpful.

Review 33:terrible service. No var staff for 20 minutes had to go to reception to complain. waited over an hour for bar meal to arrive. buffet breakfast but kept running out of different types of food.

Review 34:The Spa is very relaxing and perfect

Review 35:When checking in the receptionist was quite surly but the young lady on checkout was so pleasant and friendly. The room was quite tired and the bathroom needs redoing---the side panels on the bath need replacing as they are tatty and dated and we had no soap-- luckily we had some with us. We always use Best Western because we find them value for money but £93 FOR ONE NIGHT WITH NO BREAKFAST WAS DISGRACEFUL

Review 36:Queues for breakfast on 2 of 3 days, not enough food and we were told the chef couln't produce any more pastries even though it was only 9.15 and breakfast finished at 9.30. Didn't get morning paper. Very poor wifi in our room 62

Review 37:Comfortable spacious superior room. Good parking.

Review 38:Tired mattresses (back ache), 3 star hygiene rating (reluctant to eat on site),overpriced on last visit. Changing rooms / gym too hot and too small. Wanted to book treatment but nobody came back to me, reception service often slow.

Review 39:Size of the room, air conditioning, nice pool, clean.Parking

Review 40:Probably a good location with a car, not so great for pedestrians.

Review 41:Recently refurbished rooms, well decorated. The spa looked nice but we did not visit.

Review 42:Could not sit in the bar as not enough seats coz all the wedding guest were in there watching the ruby. So I paid £122 and could not even go and sit in the bar.

Review 43:Nice place with nice staff in a nice location

Review 44:Pool was cold and small children were in and out of the steam room.

Review 45:The room was very comfortable and could hear no noise from other guests even though the hotel was busy

Review 46:Very uncomfortable bed with worst roll together for years felt like sleeping on the edge of a cliff trying not to sink into middle. Car park right outside window noisy. Terrible smell in communal area

Review 47:Helpful staff. Convenient location for main train line to Cardiff Central. Plenty of car parking nicely refurbished bathroom.

Review 48:Room service should not stop at 9.30. Food does not seem to be a priority at the hotel, given both the timings and the menu on room service. Breakfast was OK but nothing better

Review 49:Very comfortable and quiet rooms

Review 50:The only thing i could pick fault with would be the shower, not a lot of power

Review 51:location, friendliness of staff, and quality of the hotel was extremely good value for the money

Review 52:Staff was ok, in the morning I was automatically charged the USD instead of my credit card being billed the foreign currency in which I would have had a better rate of exchange (so that was a tad annoying) since I was not asked how I wanted to be charged.

Review 53:food was good, good location and close to local outlets (great prices)

Review 54:WiFi went down, staff irritated. Food (dinner and breakfast) was poor.

Review 55:The room. nice, spacious, good atmosphere. Friendly staff (until the WiFi went down), bathroom was very nice.

Review 56:Couldn't get a table in restaurant on second night waited a long time for food. Gym very small.

Review 57:Convenient location, comfortable room, good value for money

Review 58:First morning of breakfast was cahaos .food supplies not re stocked through out service had to eat out in the lounge no room in restaurant .room names not taken at breakfast so any one could have eaten there or charged. The chef could not produce a nice egg they were always hard .. Very disappointing

Review 59:Staff friendly room adequate for our stay.. Perfect for where we wanted to visit

Review 60:The drilling just outside our room at 8:45am - reception staff had "no idea" that it was happening.

Review 61:We had the pool and facilities to ourselves for the best part of the night. Evening staff very helpful and polite.

Review 62:The only negative is that we paid to upgrade to a superior room but we wasn't informed that there was a function room literally next door on the same level which had a party until the early hours of the morning.

Review 63:Lovely clean, relaxing hotel

Review 64:You can tell that money is not being spent here. I would stay here again but as I am on business if they don't sort out the WIFI it would be my last trip.

Review 65:Nice swimming pool

Review 66:Groups of women sat in the lounge/bar in robes after a spa! Some even sat cross legged! Really lowers the tone of the hotel .... You should have a separate place to do that!

Review 67:Location

Review 68:Hotel in a need of modernisation, very noisy water tank every time was filling up with water.

Review 69:Hotel facilities, such as the bar and dining areas as well as the swimming pool and message services.

Review 70:Staff were inexperienced and overall the way we were treated was poor and service in the restaurant was very poor it was busy but not so busy it appeared the staff had no direction from more senior staff and they did not seem to know how to treat guests

Review 71:Room was nice even though overall hotel looked tired and in need of updating

Review 72:Lady behind bar could have smiled more and been more welcoming, no tomatoes at breakfast had to ask for them and also another customer asked also

Review 73:The room and breakfast

Review 74:Breakfast quite disappointing, Quite a wide choice, but a poor supply of freshly cooked items in particular. Having to join the lengthening queues (Sunday) - or simply go without - didn't work for either of us.. and unfortunately (as is often the case), the 'negatives' become much more of a talking point with friends/family than the leisure and comfort 'positives'!

Review 75:Swimming, Sauna etc., first class for a 3-Star hotel. Very comfortable Superior King room was excellent for the price paid. Nice outlook on gardens. Exactly what I asked for..

Review 76:The only way I could get the toilet to flush was to remove the lid and fill the cistern with more water by opening the valve. The shower was not balanced. Eventually after finding a comfortable temperature any movement of the shower head, to rinse hair or lower body, resulted in scalding hot or very cool water Felt very sorry for the person in the room below, any movement around the room caused the floor to creak very loudly

Review 77:Room was far too hot. Overbearing smell of chlorine from the pool. Had to wait for breakfast on day 2 because the room was full. Use a bigger room. Shower didn't work properly and was a very old fashioned mixer tap design.

Review 78:The staff were faultless, Very friendly and helpful.

Review 79:We waited 45 minutes after being sat down for our pre booked meal! Only when we complained did anyone bother to tell us you had a problem with the food. We were so disguted we left restaurant & ended up at kfc, I would never use great Western again & would not recommend you Even when we checked out you tried to charge us for the meal we never had Again we are disgusted wirh this

Review 80:Purchasing a meal in the hotel was a bit confusing with the advice for paying for a voucher and the service from the bar was slow.

Review 81:The reception staff were very responsive - upgrading my room upon arrival with a friendly welcome and responding to bill queries when checking out. Thank you!

Review 82:Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. When I entered the breakfast room there was nobody to guide me what to do. I helped myself and sat down which caused me having to ask for cooked items

Review 83:The friendliness and helpfulness of the reception team on arrival

Review 84:Our morning papers were taken while we had breakfast and thrown into the waste food bin the waitress brought them back wiping off food with her cloth and said she could rescue it and offered them to us,

Review 85:for our 2 days it was ok for our visit to the Gower

Review 86:Fire Alarm going off at midnight !! Slight confusion by on duty staff, no role call, very poor communication, took 20 minutes before actually looking at indicated " Zones" to conclude it was a false alarm.

Review 87:Reception staff were excellent and particularly friendly. Good luck to pregnant lady on reception. Thankyou

Review 88:I was in a rush in the morning and had a slight wait before I could order (I was hoping for a buffet style for speed), but once ordered it only took a few minutes and was fresh.

Review 89:A nicely located Hotel. I didn't eat here in the evening, but the food other people had looked appetizing. The bar and reception staff were attentive. I also enjoyed a lovely swim and sauna with nobody else using which was very relaxing.

Review 90:We had twin room and the beds were far too narrow for us so bad nights sleep.

Review 91:Very nice swimming pool with good sized towels. Food was excellent both breakfast & evening dinner.

Review 92:At breakfast one of the staff was very rude wasn't polite at any point to any guests the whole time we were in there she made us feel very uncomfortable

Review 93:defective en suite door lock - found myself locked out during the night and had to go downstairs in my dressing gown to use the loo next to the bar. Promptly remedied in the morning when I reported it but likely to reoccur..

Review 94:comfortable room with good facilities

Review 95:Stayed in room 22 which was near a hallway door that was in frequent use and quite noisy.

Review 96:Loved the mood lighting in the pool. Had the 3 course evning meal.which was really enjoyable.

Review 97:Nothing

Review 98:Very helpful staff. There was an issue with my bedroom door but I was given an upgrade to the bridal suite which was huge, luxurious and comfortable .

Review 99:Bed was a bit soft for me but that's a personal thing... Parking a problem mid evening due to weddings!!

Review 100:Rooms lovely.obviously refurbished.. Nice job

Review 101:Not enough staff serving in the bar as there was also a wedding reception going on and had to await for very long periods to be served.

Review 102:Enjoyed the food the pool and spa facilities. The beauty treatments were good value for money. Freindly atmosphere and helpfull staff. Had a really good nights sleep in the clean comfortable bed.

Review 103:Price of food and alcohol (Guiness and lager) was too expensive. £4:15 apint of Guiness is outrageous for South West Wales. Food was a bit blandtoo but still ok to eat.

Review 104:The pool, sauna, and jacuzzi was very nice. Bed was large and comfy andbreakfast was amazing.

Review 105:The main reason for our stay was to use the leasure facilities. .pool ect.. which turned out to be closed for maintenance. .We were not told this either on the website or at check in

Review 106:Friendly staff..nice food. .excellent massage. ..clean rooms

Review 107:The bed was exceptionally uncomfortable plus there were 2 wedding parties in and as all the windows throughout the landing had been opened the noise really carried and it was exceptionally noisy. Staff struggled to keep on top of food for breakfast so people were stood waiting for eggs/croissants etc although what I had was good!

Review 108:Location/pool

Review 109:- really bad cooked food (and I'm not saying that because my husband is a chef)- ingredients not to high standard, different food on plate than described in menu - overall not happy - very loud party next door - we were not informed about it - would have asked different room or went back home ;)

Review 110:- swimming pool included in price - great massage (for good price) - clean, tidy rooms - fast, free wifi

Review 111:The ONLY thing that was negative was our beds...they were very bad.. Our room was freshky renovated, but the bed falls way short.

Review 112:Staff were so great, our room, 63 was v.spacious..afternoon tea was scrumptious.Swimming pool and spa tx was lovely.defo going back. Lizzie the receptionist was so very helpful and fun..

Review 113:Food in the restaurant was awful One of the towels had dirty stain on it Bath was dirty.

Review 114:Nice enough room Very convenient for Bridgend where I was working Good parking Decent bar

Review 115:I had a room on the ground floor which I could only access via a long way via the 1. Floor or fhe basement. Very cumbersome. Not acceptable. Wifi connection was poor.

Review 116:Nice neighborhood and good access to tube. Free wifi welcomed.

Review 117:desk staff at departure couldn't or couldn,t be bothered to book us in at another great western hotel,he actually said he didn't have the number but i offered to supply it from your brochure available in the hotel to no avail and lost the company a booking as we stayed elsewhere. it is quite normal to do this in hotels belonging to the same chain.

Review 118:good leisure facilities, especially the pool

Review 119:The hotel, whilst comfortable and clean, has a slight air of neglect about it. The corridors, rooms and overall feel could all do with updating. The gym, which was the main reason I chose this hotel had older, partially damaged equipment that spoilt the experience. That sums it up really , my stay was good but could have been very good had things been maintained a little better.

Review 120:This hotel is the only choice of you want gym facilities included, in the Bridgend area. Priced to compete with budget hotels and quality guest houses it is a far better option than either. Staff are friendly and check in/out is painless.

Review 121:I reported that the radiators were not working on the first night and that they banged very early in the morning. And after the second night I found that they still were not working.

Review 122:Went out to eat so can't rate the food.we assumed the meals would be small and we like big meals but can't be sure as we just assumed but will eat there next time just to try it.

Review 123:We went away for a break from the children,I was totally relaxed and had the best nights sleep in 2 years, lovly.

Review 124:I stayed for birthday weekend, couldn't have went at a worse time as there was a wedding party going on right next to the restaurant, we had to finish my birthday meal in our room as there was a table full of drunk people across the restaurant being loud and lairy and they were not told to consider other people in the room. Not really something you expect in a spa hotel

Review 125:OUTSTANDING service, really can't speak highly enough of the people working there, they made us feel very welcome. The food was fantastic and very good value for money. Will definitely go back

Review 126:Waiting over an hour for breakfast, flippant staff, long wait at bar, noisy guests disturbing us at 2am

Review 127:Comfy clean room, pool was good, felt spacious in all area, grounds were nice.

Review 128:Work all over country as do contractors i travelled with, all agreed hotel was excellent as where the staff you wont regret booking this hotel. got a free unexpected upgrade as well which just added to the enjoyment of the stay. 10/10 for Best Western Heronston. Many thanks APDecs

Review 129:Breakfast Buffet on Boxing Day was a bit haphazard.

Review 130:room was extremely spacious and well equipped. bathroom facilities very good. All staff friendly and attentive

Review 131:Restaurant was shut and bar menu was ok , but didn't really take our fancy . The girls at reception recommended Ashoka Indian in Bridgend , £10 taxi both ways . Freshly cooked wonderlful food and a doggy bag .

Review 132:Dead friendly , everything was done really well . We went for a superior room , plenty of space and lovely and quiet . Spa was perfect .

Review 133:lack of staff when booking in. lack of staff in bar area lack of staff and service at breakfast the cooked breakfast was very different on day 2.

Review 134:good food in evening. good wifi

Review 135:No sleep until 01.30 because of intolerable noise from rooms above (poor insulation ?) and from "event" adjoining. No disabled parking in evening due to "event".

Review 136:welcoming reception staff. comfortable room.

Review 137:- expensive and poor selection of food in the bar and the kitchen closed too early at 7.30pm (restaurant was closed for Christmas parties)

Review 138:- nice and big bedroom, with king size bed - swimming pool it's amazing - good breakfast

Review 139:the bed was absolutely disgusting. The hotel knew that it was for an adult. It was a very weak z-bed. I would have thought for £105 putting a single divan in the room would be reasonable. They gave us NO GESTURE of an apology. They just said 'sorry'. I slept on the floor. Yes, THE FLOOR. Because the bed broke!

Review 140:the hotel allowed us to pay £10 to have an extra bed in the double room- saving us having to book another room for 1 person

Review 141:Couldn't fault anything.

Review 142:All the staff were helpful and friendly. Couldn't do enpough for you. Meals were supberb and room was warm and comfortable. Have booked up for New Years Eve do. Looking forward to it already.
