Reviews for Les Almadies
Review 1:This in no way a reflection of the couple running the hotel, but the building is clearly of another era when disabled access was not even considered. I would hope that somehow, sometime this could be addressed.
Review 2:Absolutely everything (except the weather!) Bruno was the perfect host and he made us very welcome with his perfect English and Spanish. The hotel was beautiful - elegant, charming, full of artistic touches at every turn. Wonderfully comfortable bed; much-appreciated tea and coffee making facilities. Heated towel rail an unexpected luxury. And the breakfast was exceptional, with a great range of high quality, mostly local products. The relaxed, inviting atmosphere made it a perfect hotel for a weekend away.
Review 3:The owners of the hotel were extremely welcoming and made us feel at home in the hotel as well as the town by offering us great recommendations. Hotel is in an amazing location and you can't find better hosts (or a better breakfast).
Review 4:This small hotel is home away from home. The owners, Bruno and Denise, are excellent hosts. Bruno, for former restaurateur of 21 years presents an excellent breakfast. The common sitting area is tastefully furnished and welcoming. So is the patio outside, where one can sit and enjoy a bottle of wine. The location is excellent; right in the middle of where everything happens; yet it is quiet at night.
Review 5:The hotel manager Bruno was such a great host. He was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcomed to Saint Jean de Luz! His wife Denise and son Julian were so friendly and made us feel right at home. It was such a beautiful hotel. The room was very comfortable with up-to-date fixtures and had a great view of the Main Street from the balcony. We especially loved the breakfast which featured lots of fresh local produce. Highly recommended! Les Almadies was the perfect place to stay for our visit to the beautiful Saint Jean de Luz!
Review 6:The owners were exceptional hosts who were there to help and advise us. Although the room was small, there was a place for everything and all amenities were provided. The location on Rue Gabetta, a walking street, was excellent.
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:We wete most impressed with the quality of this boutique hotel. Bruno, our host, was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was of a high standard with fresh local produce. Thank you for a memorable stay in Sant Jesn de Luz.
Review 9:the host was wonderful. he has a really lovely small hotel. he advised us where to go to eat which was fantastic and somewhere we wouldn't have chosen ourselves. breakfast was good too.
Review 10:It was very warm in the room ... A sheet and lightweight blanket would have been preferable to the heavier duvet.
Review 11:Lovely and clean & convenient to shopping, restaurants, harbour, train station etc. Bruno was very friendly, helpful & welcoming.
Review 12:The bathrooms are bright, clean and spacious. The owners are very friendly and helpful, both in general and with restaurant recommendations. We really enjoyed our stay and wanted to stay for an additional night but unfortunately the hotel was full.
Review 13:One flight of stairs was particularly difficult for someone with poor sight. Though breakfast was well presented and everything was fresh, it was the same every day.
Review 14:Cleanliness, friendliness and location were excellent. Attention to detail was well above average.
Review 15:It was inconvenient that our. Wifi wouldn't connect, not sure why but worked everywhere else but problem here.
Review 16:Our hosts Bruno & Denise were delightful and went out of their way to make our stay very pleasant
Review 17:Nothing!
Review 18:Bruno and Denise must be the most welcoming hosts. Very pleasant room with really attractive bathroom. An excellent, tasty breakfast of local produce every morning in the most attractively decorated breakfast area. Situated right in the pedestrian central area. Easy access to restaurants, the port, the stunning church etc. Just perfect
Review 19:Charming ,friendly and helpful host. Bruno is a born hotelier. He could not do enough for us. . He recommended great restaurants and even lent his car parking ticket to us! I would highly endorse this lovely hotel.
Review 20:from the start to finish this centrally located small hotel is a gem!!! The hosts were so gracious and the room, while small by US standards, was modern, clean, airy and adequate for our stay. The breakfast was 5 star!! We loved the quaint town and should we return would definitely return to this hotel.
Review 21:We liked the location and Denise and Bruno are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very tastefully decorated and the bathroom was beautiful. Finally, the breakfast was superb! What else can I say!
Review 22:We had to go back to work and leave
Review 23:Before we arrived we had spoken to the owner and he was so helpful with everything . Booked great places to eat . Knew local people very well . Lived in the UK before . Superb choices for Breakfast and he would change anything
Review 24:The location is excellent. The hotel is well renovated, very clean, the breakfast is ver tasty, and The hotel owner couple were very kind and have great hospitality. Must stay hotel.
Review 25:We had the most charming and personable welcome in the world by Bruno, the hotel owner, who recently purchased and renovated the hotel. The hotel is clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. It's ideally located on a quaint plaza along the main pedestrian street and mere blocks from the beach. If you're looking for a delightful St. Jean de Luz hotel experience, this is it!
Review 26:nothing
Review 27:Good communication prior to visit.Bruno very friendly and helpful. Great position on pedestrianised street, fairly close to beach. Lovely breakfast with local products. Room pretty and comfortable with balcony.
Review 28:The owner couldn't have been more helpful. Everywhere was immaculately clean. Very central. Arrived on a fete weekend so town was buzzy with families out enjoying the activities
Review 29:Everything was perfect!
Review 30:This is our third time staying at Les Almadies, and each time is better than the last! Location is excellent. The owner cares about the small details, and is extremely welcoming. The room is clean and comfy. Breakfast is delicious... Gâteau basque, croissant, pain au chocolat, jamón iberico, local yogurts, fresh fruit, coffee, etc. Bruno (le proprio) est aux petits soins avec ses clients.
Review 31:Finding the hotel and parking. Once we figured out to park in public garage it was fine.
Review 32:The location was right in the center of the town. Easy walk to eat and shop and to see the beautiful church. The market on Tuesday and Fridays was a couple blocks away and well worth exploring!
Review 33:Nothing at all. No parking available but easy to sort out nearby
Review 34:Personal attention and welcome Attention to detail Lovely centre location Excellent breakfast
Review 35:The perfect hosts, Bruno and Denise complement the ambience of this cosy hotel. Beautiful little touches and thoughtful gestures make this this a wonderful place to stay.
Review 36:It was extremely difficult to find. There should be directions on how to park and get to the facility. It took us 3 hours to find the place and then we had to stop and ask for directions and weren't given very good advice.
Review 37:Delightful owners , very interactive, enjoyed our stay very much. Very good location
Review 38:This is a beautiful hotel. Fantastic location and a delightful secret. Very clean and fresh and beautifully decorated. Lovely owners and a lovely overnight stop. Worth every cent. (There is no charge for teabags!)
Review 39:We liked the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the the hotel. The proprietor was very welcoming and most helpful. We would certainly use this hotl again if we were to go back to St Jean-de-Luz. All I would add is do not try to drive to the hotel but instead go straight to one of the public car parks as the roads close to the hotel are very small and narrow. We ended up using the Grand Plage car park which was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Review 40:Nowhere to sit on the balcony A bit noisy in the mornings (deliveries to shops, road cleaning etc) in the square outside - could be worse in high season
Review 41:Central location, attractions, beach, shops all close by
Review 42:No air-con, so for a passage of air the options are to open the window (street noise in the morning) or use the portable fan sitting in the wardrobe.
Review 43:Slap in the middle of a pedestrianised street, this is a cracking place to stay unless you want to pay extra for sea views. Rooms are of an average size for French hotels, though if you book one at the front you get extra space courtesy of a balcony.
Review 44:The charge of 1€ for a sachet of tea or coffee. Although it was a pleasant surprise to find room tea/coffee facilities the the fact it was chargeable took the edge of the experience.
Review 45:Comfortable bed and friendly staff
Review 46:Very nice owner, excellent hospitality, flexible andò willing ti help..
Review 47:Complicated to park
Review 48:Small, in the heart of town.
Review 49:Excellent owner and staff. Great location.Owner very helpful with information about the town and a recommendation for dinner.
Review 50:Excellent location in the middle of town, very friendly and caring owner. Attractive and clean room.
Review 51:We loved this small, quaint hotel with wonderful staff and off-the-charts cleanliness.
Review 52:Access by car and cost of parking nearby.
Review 53:Fiendly staff, great breakfasts, clean and central location.
Review 54:Modern decor Friendly staff Central position
Review 55:The whole expereince. The staff very helpful
Review 56:Friendly welcome and attention from the propietors. Clean comfortable room with well equipped bathroom. Lovely breakfast.
Review 57:Lovely to return and find it all just the same excellent ! A few extras like tea and coffee in the rooms and egg machine for breakfast wonderful !
Review 58:The hosts and location
Review 59:No car parking. Very noisy early in the morning with street cleaning and bin emptying.
Review 60:Clean house.
Review 61:The breakfast was exceptional. The support, advice and guidance from the owners was brilliant and ensured the stay was fantastic.
Review 62:Patron Bruno is charming and helpful
Review 63:A bit noisy from the street, but it was in the middle of town
Review 64:Fantastic location and the owners would do anything to help, carparking and restaurants and anything else you need.
Review 65:Bruno was very helpful and a great character
Review 66:Local flavor, immaculate room and bathroom, delightful hosts
Review 67:Perfect location on a pedestrian street, everything a short walk away, but long walks if you want them too. Public Parking nearby.
Review 68:Location. Hospitality of Bruno and wife
Review 69:Host was knowledgeable, helpful, and very welcoming. Breakfast was a great addition featuring local Basque products.
Review 70:Friendly helpful hosts, central location, wonderful breakfast of local produce.
Review 71:Unusual for French hotels, a large comfortable king size bed. Courteous and attentive management.
Review 72:Booking.com price paid is displayed as lowest guaranteed. It wasactually the rack rate displayed in room, so the inference that you aregetting a bargain is very misleading
Review 73:Location is perfect for beach, shops and restaurants. Staff are veryhelpful and friendly. Hotel, in total, is immaculate.
Review 74:Noisy at night, being on main shopping strip, with the window closed it was too hot. No airconditioning.
Review 75:Clean, friendly atmosphere, excellent breakfast, close to beach, restaurants, shopping.
Review 76:The hotel is very central (which is a good thing!) but it does mean ifyou're a light sleeper you may want to bring ear plugs, as the noisefrom the square right outside can wake you up early. Also no aircon inthe room, so it can get quite warm!
Review 77:Lovely hotel, with decent sized rooms for France (still small, butbetter than expected!) Hotel looks very new and clean, with moderntouches. Nice, simple breakfast, and friendly staff
Review 78:We have had a very poor experience and would like help of Booking.com to resolve. We initially booked one room (asking for a second for our friends) and then the next day tried to book another for our friends, but never received a confirmation to that request. Your records may show our attempt to ask you people what was happening. Because of no response, we booked another room for our friends at the La Marisa. When we arrived, we were told that we HAD booked two rooms and that they had informed us. Not so. The lady on duty said that she would speak to her husband and come back to us, which she never did. On leaving the matter was not mentioned. In the meantime, we had found another couple of travellers to take the spare room for the second night, for which we have received neither thanks or recompense. Now we find that we have been charged the extra night's charge. As you can see, we are most annoyed about this and would ask if you people can do something to help us resolve this matter. We have emailed the Hotel, but their response gave no joy. Thanks in anticipation of your help. Roger and Mary Bryson
Review 79:Nothing I didn't like. I struggled a bit with my French.
Review 80:Lovely rooms and wonderful staff. Clean, modern in a beautiful building. East access in and out. Lovely location in the heart of St Jean de Luz.
Review 81:If you opt for a room with a bathtub, as we did, be aware that theshower may be difficult to adjust.
Review 82:Our room was large, lovely, and peaceful, with a modern bathroom andcomfortable bed and pillows. The location on the main pedestrianshopping street, Rue Gambetta, is perfect once you arrive. The streetcan be packed with people, but it closed down at 8 P.M. when we werethere in April, offering complete quiet for the evening. We thought thebeautifully-presented breakfast was well worth the money. St. Jean-de-Luz is a great base for seeing the Basque country, and Les Almadies is awonderful place to stay.
Review 83:This wee hotel, a renovated building with seven guest rooms, is smack-bang in the heart of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, on the main pedestrians-only walking street (thus vehicular access is from the back). Our room was big enough, but not overly spacious, and very pleasantly furnished. A comfortable bed. The bathroom was bright and modern. A tiny balcony overlooked the square in front (Place du College). The breakfast room and guest salon is bright and sunny, and the breakfast is great – quite a lot of variety on offer compared with other French breakfasts. The owners are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are on floors 2 and 3, and there's no elevator. If you want a Hilton, this is not for you. If you want a delightful, well-run, intimate small hotel with character, this is impossible to beat! Being on a walking street, it'll be helpful to know that you tell the taxi to go to the back of the hotel, viz, the corner of rue du Midi and rue Hayet. If you're driving a car and want to park for a couple of days, head for the parking station 'Vinci – Coeur de Ville' at 33 rue Victor Hugo — it's behind and practically underneath the hotel — only 20-30 metres walk. Arriving by train at St-Jean-de-Luz —Ciboure station, it's a short walk to the hotel, and manageable even with baggage.
Review 84:Friendly welcome, comfortable room, bed and bathroom. Lovely location
Review 85:Location and general quality of the Hotel and surrounding area.
Review 86:Location, very nice breakfast
Review 87:Breakfast at 12 eur a bit too high. Good quality.
Review 88:Great friendly staff; small boutique inn
Review 89:Thoughtful interior design and attention to detail. Friendly and helpful staff, but not intrusive. Central location
Review 90:The weather - it was awful for most of the 12 days!
Review 91:The hotel, the town, the restaurants and the area
Review 92:It felt like a friendly family run hotel. Excellent breakfast. Great location and will certainly stay there again when I return to St Jean.
Review 93:Very central position - good for all the restaurants & seafront.
Review 94:Delightful. Perfectly placed and charming staff
The Fine Print
